    Hey guys, I live in Brazil and for the last 3 months I have been doing research and getting licenses to operate a disinfecting business. The biggest hassle was getting my hands on an electrical atomizer, but after much wait i managed to buy the best one available. I already have contacted a chemical engineer to get a hang on what products to use. I will also need to get some sort of hazmat suit and a filtered mask. So i'm almost set to start operating, which should be next week. I plan on offering the service mostly to Gyms, Markets, Grocery Stores and maybe apartment complex near my area.

    Now I'm having a bit a of a problem on how should I price the service. I've researched with two competidors, and now is the tricky part. The two of them had similar pricing for a disinfection that according to them could last "up to 15 days", so the price was fairly high for one simple disinfection. But that is bullshit, this is straight up a lie, there's no product in the world that would guarantee 15 days of "protection". Disinfection should be done daily. And of course I will be honest with clients and tell them that it's bullshit. I plan on having montly subscriptions where i disinfect the client business daily(or 5 days a week for some) on pre-determined times for a more hefty price, but it seems pretty hard to determine my price when competidors are straight up lying to customers. Of course I plan to use that in my favor marketing wise, but how can I fairly price the service?

    Leaving a six figure salary to start a business

    I am looking to open up a franchise business in the same industry I've been working in for the last 8 years. The business looks decent enough, has a decent track record, their franchises are doing good business. And theres lots of potential to grow.

    Here's the thing. I make a really good salary right now. I work in municipal govt, making close to six figure salary, have good benefits and a pension plan. I really want to start a business because I'm miserable working 9-5 and I thrive on doing things for myself. I feel like I'd be a better business owner than an employee. I'd work harder, I'd enjoy it more and get better satisfaction out of it.

    But am I crazy to want to leave a comfortable life for what will be 3-5 years of low income until the business gets going. Plus it's not a 100% guarantee I will succeed, I could lose it all and be without a job. I have kids, we are accustomed to a certain lifestyle and everything would get uprooted. Personal life will likely take a toll. But i want to do it so bad, I just dont see myself as an eployee forever. At the same time it feels like such a huge leap of faith.

    I dont know what I'm doing here, looking fr advice or ranting or just thinking out loud. But if someone else left a comfortable job with a good salary to start a business, I'd love to hear about it.

    I have an online shop that makes about $25-30k revenue per year. it's just a side hobby but have thought to put some more money into it so I can scale it up. before doing so, I understand it would be foolish to do this without having some goals & meaningful reports in place. are there any suggestions you can make to point me in the right direction?

    I would imagine business advisors are a way to go, though assume they cost many thousands of dollars to engage and use; perhaps I'm wrong. maybe there are some frameworks that I could research as a way to understand some directions I could take?

    I'm quite good with the technical side of things, but in terms of growth I am lacking the motivation & knowledge to know where to start. maybe it's because it's a side project, so I'm not forced to make it grow - I'm unsure.

    any advice or pointers would be great!

    Do Small Business owners who are thinking to launch their business online need Digital Marketing Coaching? Does this already exist?

    My family comes from a small island town based in India. My father runs a restaurant there. He does not have enough knowledge about internet marketing & how to go about sell anything online. The pandemic has forced him and many more businesses around to go digital.

    Makes me wonder if there are many more business owners like him across the world?

    I am someone who has been in internet marketing space for over 12+ years now, and now I feel is the time to help small & local businesses get online. As they really can do with some support - support to help them understand which platforms are better for their needs, which social networks they should be on, how to setup online store and start selling. How to use email marketing, using SMS notifications, what tools to use, etc. Generally some sort of help to help them make smarter, faster & better decisions.

    What do you all think? Is this even a problem? Do some people already offer something like this?

    Should I employ this underhanded tactic to gauge potential customer demand for my small business?

    I'm currently creating a business plan for a mobile shop in a very fast growing area of business.

    I would like to gauge demand for this service and assess which locations I should provide this product to (which will allow me to estimate gas costs for my vehicle too).

    I had an idea to post on facebook in the relevant groups, simply asking potential customers if there is a demand for this service.

    Sounds simple enough, right? Well the relevant groups are created and managed by my rival company (although I would be mobile whereas they are a small shop premises supplying the same area of my town). So I wouldn't think they would take too lightly to potential competition posting in their group.

    I have an idea (albeit slightly unethical) to create a survey for a fake dissertation in order to post in the group and get the answers I want.

    Do you think this is a good idea? Should I reach out to the rival company instead and be honest?

    SBA worker

    I'm a Tier 1 worker at SBA and I just wanted to say that I'm sorry that I can't be much help you. We can only answer the most basic questions and are unable to check on the status of your application. Also, Tier 1 workers no longer have the ability to transfer calls so you would either have to wait for someone to call you back within the week or find a way to contact Tier 2 directly.

    I just thought it would be right to give people a heads up about this situation.

    EDIT: I should also add that some of us a remote workers and the training that we got consisted of a zoom meeting. Most of the things I've been asked are things that I had to figure out myself as well by looking at some documents thar may or may not be up to date.

    First a little back story- I've recently learned that I am being passed by on a promotion that I've spent 9 years with this company training for. This burns me and I will not get over it or just leave it be. I will move on. First I need to finish the schooling they're paying for, put some time in so I don't have to repay them and save more $. Roughly 5 years.

    My plan now, it was work for the man and retire from this company, is to run my own small business. I dont know if I can start my own business, but ideally I would purchase a small business from someone looking to retire. Everything falling into place, this would be bookstore, coffee shop, eatery or small bar. I've got plenty of understanding of all these businesses.

    My question is, has anyone done something like this? How much $ did you need? I've currently got 150,000$ I could access without placing the home in any kind of lien. In 5 years, if I up my savings game, maybe 250,000$.

    LLC with S corp election vs S corp?

    Backdating start date sole proprietorship

    I'd like to know if it's possible to backdate the start of a sole proprietorship in California and what if any fines/fees would be associated with such a move if one has already been paying local and self-employment taxes?

    I know counties such as Los Angeles do not require sole proprietorships with the same business name as the owner to register but from my limited understanding you're supposed to register with the local city you operate in.

    This example is a business that requires no license but doesn't confine work to any one city.

    I'm getting a lot of conflicting information between city and county webpages, any help would be appreciated thanks.

    ERP advice for family business

    Hai everyone, i would like to ask some advice in regards to ERP in general.

    So my family business is contractor we build powerplants, cement terminal and etc. Tbh we're not small but we're not big either, we're what the government call middle upper business. So our scale of work can range from as simple as fabrication to building a whole cement plant.

    As like any other family business most of the employees here are old and have been around the company for over 20 years. We're now currently working on our financial issue (too much debt and etc) it's a bit hard but we're working on it. Another issue is our internal system that is rather slow and a bit inefficient in my opinion. Slowly i want to move to a paperless work environment because we buy so many papers its ridiculous. I was looking up at some ERP system providers and tbh in my opinion they're a bit expensive and not really catered for our industry. I'm thinking if it's better i hire an IT to actually make a customised system for the company especially work payment reqisition, subcontractors requisition, project control (very big issue so this is definitely important) and other expenses. Another issue to take into consideration is the fact that most of our work is outside of the island so we have to consider that.

    Back to the question should i just stick with excel automation (since i can make this on my own) or should i hire an IT person to design a system for us to use?

    Yes i was talking about financial issue but a revamp in the internal system is greatly needed. Another info i'm not located in the US, i'm actually in Indonesia so some things that works overseas may not work here.

    Energy drinks and coffee to start it up and sleeping pills to shut it off. Making damn good money, clearing 7,000/day. It's seasonal but keeping the whole show running is killing my soul, my marriage, and probably my friendships. Taking well over 150/calls per day sometimes 40 per hour. Never thought I'd do it but it's such a fucking grind I'm worn down to nothing. The money isn't a thrill anymore the game never runs out of levels.

    Work like balance, self care all that is a joke. Feeding myself is a pain in the ass, dirty laundry on the floor, dishes piled up. Can't do shit with friends because staying up late will royally screw me up for days.

    Tourists hoards in my face all day blowing up our phones, so needy. Hire more help you say? Not easy.

    . I've been able to handle it for several seasons but this one broke me. Im shutting it off slowly and leaving the money on the table.

    How much do you show a client of your process before shipping the completed product?

    I just started an Etsy site where I make wedding entryway signs that say the couple's name or "Welcome to our wedding", etc. I just made my first sale. The signs are calligraphy written on the front of a clear piece of plexiglass and then I paint a color on the back of the glass.

    My signs are customizable- meaning they tell me what exactly they want written and the color they want it written in, as well as the color I paint in the background. For this first sale, I showed her the rough draft that I was actually really proud of, and she didn't like it. It could have been because it was just a sketch and she couldn't visualize it looking good, but either way she wanted to make tweaks. In all I made 5 sketches and showed them to her. The sketch she liked the best is something I'm not proud of. I made the sign anyway but thought it was bad quality. So I made a new one. I still hate the way it looks and it's not my style. However, I have no time to fix it. Her wedding is soon and I have to send it tomorrow.

    My point is, through all the tweaks and having her so closely involved in the process, I ended up straying from my personal style and now have a product that cost me about $40 to finally make and I'm not even proud of it. I don't even want to post about it on my social media, even though I need more products to add to my portfolio. So I'm frustrated. How involved should I have a client in my creative process? I obviously don't want them to hate it, and I want them to know they are getting what they paid for, but I feel like I was pushed into doing my sign in a way I definitely would never want to do again because I let my client have too much say. Should I show a client my rough draft? Should I show them the final result BEFORE sending it? Or should I just make the item in the style I want and send it hoping they like it? What are your opinions?

    Personal Brand advice needed!

    Hey everyone, I am a filmmaker turned marketing consultant and want to start developing more of an online presence for my self. I am about ready to go, but have one last hang up. I have been stuck between using my full name or full name with middle.

    I owned a successful business for 10 years but didn't put much attention into my online presence or content strategy since most of my work was referral or PPC ads straight to my website. So two bad online reviews later (which were my only ones after 10 years), they come up on the first page if you type in my name along with my city or old profession. They're actually not that bad, but I still don't want that to be what people see. Not to mention the SEO for my name is dominated by some old weird alien guy (you'll see if you look it up).

    My full name with middle name on the other hand I like, but it doesn't flow as well. I've been advised that my regular name is better, and using a middle name may come off pretentious. But there's virtually no one else with this name and it's much easier to show up in search.

    So what do you guys think?

    Have you implemented restocking fees in response to the nonrefundable merchant fee policies?

    I try to give cheerful and excellent customer service in my online retail shop, which in the past has included allowing customers to return products that don't fit. (I sell pet supplies, so we're talking things like harnesses.) Now that both Shopify and Paypal are keeping the merchant fees when I refund my customer, it's bugging me having to eat that cost. I used to send the customer a prepaid return shipping label, too, and now I'm not so sure about doing that because it's just more cost that I'm eating.

    How are all of you handling this? Did you start charging restocking fees? Did you stop sending out prepaid return postage?

    I mean, I KNOW it's not the customer's fault, so I don't want to punish them. But I can't afford this. Especially when something about the customer gives me the vibe that they just wanted the item for a week and intended to send it back when they were done with it.

    Boss is selling her small business -- what questions should employees be asking?

    I've worked for a small ad agency for over 5 years. The company is an LLC, it's about 10 years old, and was co-founded by two women.

    In early 2019, one of the co-founders bought out the other. I know they were on a 4 or 5 year payment plan, and that the company was making those payments.

    The company has 7 employees, including the owner/managing director (before the pandemic, we were 10).

    Today the owner/managing director (my boss) announced that she had good news - that she had acquired an investor. The pandemic has all but destroyed our client roster, and my boss indicated that this update was good for all of our job security. In this meeting, I asked about how this would impact our day-to-day, and how this would impact her own role, and her responses raised some red flags for me that she may be fully leaving the company.

    I'm curious as to whether or not she fully sold the company to this investor, and what the timelines look like if she is fully stepping away from the company, but I don't know if these are appropriate questions to ask?

    I'm also curious to know if, as an employee, there are any other questions I should be asking!

    I am planning to launch my website (shopify) soon selling skin care products, but i have a few basic questions that need to be answered for me to get going.

    1) what is the cheapest shipping rate in the US amongst dhl fedex usps?

    2) do most small ecommerce retailers actually package the products per each sale and mail them at shipping services? I dont mind doing this but just feels like there is an efficient way of mailing packages

    3) are there cheap boxes that i can buy to package the products?

    Overall, i am just trying to find examples of how to ship products efficiently to buyers

    I've found a need and create a product, now what's next?

    During COVID, I kept on asking myself what can I do to help the community while create a sustainable business?

    I realized my wife and her friends were washing grocery and produce like mad, and they could not find a washing product they like, so I called my friends with PhD in the biology and toxicology fields, and we created a 100% natural vegetable wash.

    We made a website, and have a solid product to sell. We tried running a few FB ads and Google search AD but the results are very minimum. We were able to target a specific demo, woman, 34-55 year old, who enjoy home cooking, salad, sanitation with a kid live in metropolitans, but we don't seem to be able to get them to follow our brand.

    Any idea how what should we focus on and how to grow this business?

    Computer repair, speccing, and building business- Questions related to sales taxes in AZ

    I currently work as a paid IT employee for a nonprofit in a very small Arizona town. On the side, I've been commonly working on people's computers, including troubleshooting, repairs, malware cleanup, data recovery, etc. I sometimes also spec out and build machines for people, or refurbish broken machines and resell them to people who need them.

    I've been exploring the idea of starting up my own side business since the demand seems high enough (my boss gets contacted by people who request my services), though it won't be my primary income, so there is no issue if it doesn't become profitable.

    The main thing that's troubling me is related to sales tax, and taxes in general. Services in AZ are generally not taxed, but if I am using parts to repair systems, or building whole computers for customers, would I need to charge sales tax for those and obtain the proper licenses and such? Does it matter if I already pay taxes on the parts being used?

    I'm also unsure about how the income I get from the business affects my personal tax returns, assuming I am a sole proprietor.

    If nothing else, I would like some advice about where to go from here, if there are other alternative paths I should consider, or if what I am doing now is fine.

    Splitting business between two states - do I need two licenses?

    I currently live in WA state and operate an online retail business. I'll be spending a lot of time in CA this upcoming year and will be shipping several products from CA when I'm there. Do I need to form a CA LLC as well or can I continue operating under my WA business license?
