Seasonal employee worked for a 24 hours and won unemployment. Posted: 13 Aug 2020 09:25 PM PDT I recently got a letter in the mail from an employee that worked for me for one week and less than 24 hours. This employee no showed and somehow got awarded unemployment. How and why is this possible? Unemployment never picked up my calls and kept forwarding me elsewhere for hours on end. How can someone be eligible for 6 months of unemployment after only working for a week? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Aug 2020 12:23 PM PDT The background: I have the opportunity to take over a liquor store from a family friend. It was his dad's, who recently passed away. The lease is up in September. He offered to give me the license and the business for which I will pay him 50% of the current inventory. What should I be aware of before getting into this venture? Things that I know are of high importance, keeping track of inventory and the bookkeeping. Things to note: - We are meeting together with the owner of the building to discuss renovations that need to be made. Store front will be updated and a new sign will be placed on the strip mall sign at the front of the parking lot. Also needs to be painted, deep cleaned and probably new flooring. - I will be responsible for updating the rest of the interior. Shelving needs to be cleaned or replaced. Probably just deep cleaned with de-greaser and a pressure washer. Also needs a new cooler for the Champagne and Cold Wine, and chilled liquor. - Store currently has an inventory problem. Lots of missed sales because of delivery issues from ABC. Located in MS and the ABC is backed on orders. I believe this can be partially solved with some time and effort. Two things he has not put into the business because of his other responsibilities. [link] [comments] |
[Q] How often do you worry about competitors and market share? Posted: 13 Aug 2020 06:56 PM PDT If you had access to data on how much market share your business had versus other competitors, would you find that useful? Or is your business/industry one where competition is not a big factor? [link] [comments] |
[Q] A lot of spare boxes from failed business, any ideas on how to use them? Posted: 13 Aug 2020 10:17 PM PDT Last year I want to start "monthly subscription boxes" business with cosmetics. I made nice smooth box design, website etc.. I thought that if it works in America, it will work in my (post-communists) country *haha*. The vision was that people would order a nice looking box, knowing who the content was for, like Baby, Man, Beard. I had no order. Now I have paper spare 150 designed with print and 150 postal boxes and other stuff worth $1,5k which take my place at home. I invested a lot of time in this business and without any results.Do you have some ideas on how I can use it? I had no experience, so I tried it and it didn't work out. Please be nice to me. Posted: 13 Aug 2020 04:45 PM PDT Small manufacturer offering wages inline with the area. We have never had problems hiring before but I need to add 7 people to a 30 person staff. 2.5 weeks and we picked up one. Indeed, Zip and Craigslist ads and we get responses, set up interviews and most people ghost us. This has never been a problem. A non violent felon came in looking for work. I love a good redemption story but we have never hired one before ( nor have we had the chance). He said if we took a chance on him he has other people with the same background. Can anyone share their experience? [link] [comments] |

Inventory Software That Works With Quickbooks Posted: 14 Aug 2020 03:41 AM PDT Hi all, I'm starting a wholesale business that caters to farmers that sells fertilizers, feed, and nutrients. Where I'm currently stuck in finding an inventory software that works with Quickbooks or has an invoicing feature. From searching the web I have found NetSuite, Cin7, and Quickbooks Enterprise. Asides from having the inventory software speak to Quickbooks, a few features that I am looking for are:

Posted: 13 Aug 2020 10:58 PM PDT I have a brick/mortar retail store in a small rural tourist area. The workforce in the area isn't exactly highly skilled / highly paid. I've managed to find and keep some great employees over the years but reading the "E myth", in conjunction with the fact that I currently have time to do about 1/10th of what I really want to, has really helped me realize... I need to replace myself in every way I can. So next big time sink on the chopping block is just reordering all this stuff I usually deal with (even if it's stuff I personally love ordering). The problem is, I can't really find anyone in my area up to the task. On top of that, I actually think it would be better to have someone removed from the daily distractions, focusing solely on making sure we have shit in stock. The question is, what would be the best avenue/site/service/app to look for and hire a remote worker for a business like this? 15ish employees, two locations... I've looked at other threads on the sub about hiring remote workers; there's upwork, ziprecruiter, influx... god knows how many others. I'm not trying to get all my research done for me here... just hoping someone can point me towards a service that makes sense for my situation. I'm not looking for a crazy skilled person, maybe 30-60k/yr person who's cool working from home for a mom and pop. They'd basically be running reports, directing employees to check inventory, and ordering quantities based on stock levels. Pretty simple. What service/site would likely yield the best results for something like that? Any other personal experience or cautionary tales more than welcome. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
What card processor do you use and what is your rate Posted: 13 Aug 2020 11:03 AM PDT I'm trying to find a good rate. I will be processing 25-50 transactions from $ 50-1200. All of my transactions will be mobile/on the go payments. Also which swiper do you use, how much did you pay and do you like it? Edit- 25-50 transactions per MONTH [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Aug 2020 01:50 AM PDT What would be the best way for selling few products online for local/country market? Small online store? Plane web pages or landing pages for every product with only phone number for ordering? What about marketing, what is easiest to share online? [link] [comments] |
Mixing personal truck with commercial use Posted: 13 Aug 2020 07:52 PM PDT Hi everyone! I have several questions about using my personal vehicle for business use. Let's assume I have a car I currently use and it has liability, collision, property damage, and injury protection insurances. I want to sell it and get a truck that I use for both personal and business use. How could I use this truck within my LLC, and still be insured while not piercing the corporate veil? Can I get separate commercial insurance without losing the liability protection of my LLC? What would be the personal/business tax implications of this? Could the purchase of the truck be an expense? Would the sale of it be a profit? I know I want to have about a 50 mile radius on my business, and I know business use will be MUCH less than personal use in terms of mileage. Any resources or advice would be much appreciated. I plan to reach out to my insurance agent and CPA, I would just like to be somewhat educated before discussing it with them. Thanks! Is it bad business to try and negotiate at this point? Posted: 14 Aug 2020 01:34 AM PDT I had a phone conversation with a company that will by providing my company an essential service. Their guy said it would cost X amount and be bundled with a certain amount of uses. He asked if this was ok and I said yes. I misunderstood this and thought it was a one time price. I got the contract draft and apparently it's monthly, which is obviously way more expensive, and bundles more than I thought (and more than I need). I either didn't catch him mentioning those terms or he didn't mention it. Neither company has signed yet. It's just in the review phase. Would it be bad business to mention I didn't realize the pricing & terms and try to negotiate it down to less and/or just what I would need? [link] [comments] |
Asking for ownership opportunity Posted: 13 Aug 2020 11:35 AM PDT I am in the construction industry and have been in my specific field for over 10 years. I am very proficient at what I do and have a great relationship with the owner of my company and my immediate boss. I have available to me a source of money that could put me in business for myself. But, I have been leaning toward asking the owner of my company if he would let me buy into his business and satisfy both my great working relationship with him and my hunger for going to the next level of my career. My dilemma is how in the world do I bring that up to the owner of my company without risking him thinking I am going to leave him if he says no. I know our business makes a great net profit, and he has been rumored to have thought about selling in the past, but I want to bring this up as casual and cool as possible. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Aug 2020 11:06 AM PDT Walmart has it cheaper than Staples does, but I've seen ads for Rollo printers and they also look quite good. Except a Rollo printer is more than double the price. What's a good label printer for a new, low volume store? I need a thermal printer because my home printer is shit and like hell if I'm gonna pay more for ink than what I payed for the printer, but I want to be practical. Is a nicer printer like the Rollo one really that much better? [link] [comments] |

Business line, forwarding options to personal cell Posted: 13 Aug 2020 11:24 PM PDT I'm a physical therapist that sees patients privately on the side of my normal job. I wish to get a phone number specifically in my current area code for my business line (different than my personal #). I expect using this line (calls and test) very infrequently maybe a few times a month for scheduling. Any ideas what the cheapest option would be? I am looking into getting one of the dual sim phones. I'm wondering if I should just get a pay as you go phone? But am hesitant to put a pay as you go phone number on business cards. Does anyone know if its transferable to a legit phone company afterwards if needed or would there be restrictions? Not looking to pay $$$ monthly for a phone i rarely use. Also please don't suggest google voice, it is not available in Hawaii. Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Aug 2020 11:13 PM PDT Finally made a small business! Looking for tips and sales! I just started yesterday, but I've already gotten two sales! I just wanted to ask how I can get more people to buy from me! [link] [comments] |
Is there a difference between a mailing address and business address for a LLC? Posted: 13 Aug 2020 10:51 PM PDT I had an address change and made an amendment to my LLC. I live in MN and changed my member mailing address and business mailing address. Is there another address option that is just "company address?" I am with my same registered agent from when I started so I didn't change that. I know of the business mailing address, member mailing address, and registered agent address. I'd hate to have to spend another $35 and almost a month to make another amendment. [link] [comments] |
[Q]: Don't understand Revenue Share Model Posted: 13 Aug 2020 10:11 PM PDT Hi there! I'm looking to start a small company that produces merchandise using popular characters we license from rights holders. One of the companies we are trying to work with has proposed a revenue sharing model rather than set a minimum guarantee for their license. Since I know revenue can be both gross revenue and net revenue, how am I supposed to know which they are referring to? Is it just a matter of asking, or is it just understood that a revenue share is always either gross or net? Also, what would be the difference then between a net revenue share model and a profit share model? Thanks so much! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Aug 2020 10:02 PM PDT So I need advice from actual people. Not website mumbo-jumbo or banks or any of that. Real people who may have been in my shoes. So I have had a divorce and had cars repossessed and just the run of the mill lower class life. While always having good jobs that I would fall into and almost be in too deep, I always excelled in them. In 2017 a run of bad health issues made it so I had to leave my great job in Colorado. So while wallowing and the typical cry baby crap, I met a woman that gave me drive again. And on a whim, I moved to a different state to be with her and so on. Here's where I find something I love and makes money. In a tiny town that if you don't work at the local mine, you are garbage. Or if you're not the local denomination of religion. I stumbled upon this new "job" if mine and hit the ground running. I've registered as a small business and done most my sales via ebay. I'm working on a website. (I thought I was good with technology until I tried this website. Lol). But now, I'm at a stand still so to speak. I am still bringing in good numbers sales wise, but, it's getting caught up in PayPal and then bills fall behind and I've found myself living paycheck to paycheck again. But this time, I have complete control of how much money I could be making. But I can't quite make it over this hump without some money to get the things I need to streamline things so this venture of mine can take off. Going back to the beginning of this now, I can't get loans. I can't get lease on the vehicle I need, which is only an ATV. So I'm here asking if anybody knows a way to get help. An investor, loan or anything that won't be the usual suit and tie who is going to look at my credit and scoff. I know I've had issues, and I won't blame my past relationships for any of them, lol. I know this is a money maker and have proof that even with the little assets I have, I've made money and have a plan that will make a lot more. I'll shut up now. Thanks for reading. Sorry if there are a million grammatical errors and whatnot. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Aug 2020 06:16 PM PDT I own a small business, have been with my current CPA since its inception 6 years ago. The CPA firm is great at tax time: they tell me what info they need from me, explain who to pay and how much. The rest of the year, I don't hear from them at all. Since March, business has been booming and we're sitting on more money than ever. I'm starting to wonder what the tax implications will be, and I'm thinking that I should start planning on this before year-end. But, knowing this firm, I won't hear from them until Dec. 31 when they need my year-end inventory & cash on hand numbers. Am I expecting too much to think that they should be more proactive with my money, and take note that our financial situation has changed, or is it pretty standard that a CPA will be hands-off until tax season? Side note: I contacted them today to schedule a call to talk about our current finances. [link] [comments] |

Need advice on sustainable packaging as small business owner Posted: 13 Aug 2020 09:18 PM PDT Hello! So I am starting a small business on Instagram where I sell my old clothes. Even though it's a small business, I care about the environmental impact of every decision I make. After a lot of research, it seems to me that there is no sustainable packaging that is guaranteed to be sustainable. For example, my clothes for sale are light so they would be delivered in mailers instead of boxes. I could choose compostable polymailers as the ecofriendly route, but I read that at the end, the mailer is likely to end up in the landfill where it will rot and release methane instead of in an industrial composting facility. Please advice me on what I should do that is feasible? I cannot control where the packaging waste goes after it arrives at my customer's door. Or do you recommend a different packaging material? P.S I live in Jakarta, Indonesia, in case that info is important. Thank you!! [link] [comments] |
