I’m in pharm sales, what do I do on days I don’t have anywhere to go?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 06:22 AM PDT

During Covid it's to the point where many clinics are still closed and aren't open to reps. Many of the largest companies with a number of locations are all closed to reps so I'm stuck with a small number of locations to visit.

I've already had lunches here or visited these locations this week or last week. I feel like if I stop by again this week it would be a bit over kill or just would be too much? Am I wrong? What am I supposed to do on days like this or times like this? My boss told I need to get out of the house sooner, out of the house to do what? I don't have anywhere to go and feel like it'd be more productive to spend the day inside and schedule some meetings for next week

Ex Salesforce and Microsoft up-and-coming new grad looking for advice

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 07:09 AM PDT

Hi friends! I'm an up and coming senior graduating this December (based out of Toronto if that helps); I just completed a sales internship at Salesforce and was hoping to land FT, but unfortunately, they're on a hiring freeze. Prior to Salesforce, I did a 9-month long internship at Microsoft in Partner and Channel Marketing. I'm currently applying to IBM, Microsoft, and AWS for their entry-level/new grad roles. Here's where I'm looking for help:

    1. Are there any other new grad programs in technology sales that I should be targeting (or even just great companies I should be looking at)?
    2. What does the ideal new grad resume & LinkedIn look like? I'd love for feedback because I want to be as tailored as possible (you can direct message me for my LinkedIn & resume more than happy to share!) + is there a specific format I should be using?

Any and all advice is greatly is appreciated!!!

Questions about starting over in sales

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 01:04 PM PDT

I'm in my 30s and considering a career change. I've actually done a bit of sales over the years, but I've spent the past 10 years working in the oil and gas industry.

I make a great living, usually $100k+. But honestly, I want more. I've basically reached my limit unless I start my own company, and I'm not really interested in that. I want $250k+ someday. Sales has always interested me, but I think I got stuck doing the wrong type right out of college and got burned out on calling hundreds of people per day. It always felt like spam to me.

    Here's my background:

    • 10 years in oil and gas (landman) doing title research, managing projects, etc.

    • ~ 1 year in car sales

    • ~ 1 year in insurance marketing/sales: 200+ calls/day to insurance agents

    • Bachelor's degree in Arts/Humanities

If you were starting over, knowing what you know now about sales and the different paths you could take, what would you do? Is there a specific type of sales that people should know about? Is the best path generally: BDR>AE>Sales Manager? Any type of sales that people should try to stay away from? Sorry, lots of questions.

I told my boss my plan is to do it 100 times in a row and retire. Fingers crossed I can maintain momentum.

July: $11k commission on $206k sales

I wish you all similar success (unless we're competitors =P)

Question for Distribution Reps from an independent Rep

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 11:16 AM PDT

Hope you're all doing good this Friday.

I just want to see if I could get some perspective on a couple things to be the most successful with my distribution reps.

So I started during Covid brand new to sales and my industry so I'm as novice as novices get. I was supposed to work through distribution and basically go do demos/counter days there to meet dealers and get them on our lines, but that went out the window as soon as I got hired.

I have been strictly introducing myself over the phone to the distributors in my territory who sell our products. I haven't been able to get inside and actually meet any of them so it's always kind of weird when I call to check in...

I'm just wondering, do you actually want to hear from us? I talked to my biggest distributors for one of my lines and I have just never had a solid conversation with this guy. He always just goes "ALLL GOOD." And I feel like I'm annoying him by calling him haha. Any tips on that? We literally talked three times and each time is awkward and him not giving me anything to work with. It's like talking to a robot who wants to get me off the phone.

That's okay when I'm calling dealers or new leads, as there's thousands out there but only a handful of distribution centers that sell our lines so I feel more pressure to not fuck it up.

So, what can I do for you guys as an outside rep? I have a good relationship with one distributor as I gave him a new account and he buys a lot from them as he was a dealer who uses our products. But outside of him, I feel useless as I can't come in and do demos or trainings, etc.

What annoys you most about reps?

What does your favorite rep do that helps you?

    Any tips for me?

    Thanks for any input!

    Recommendations for lead/customer organization software??

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 09:52 AM PDT

Just took a position as the director of wholesale operations for a coffee roasting company. This position is newly created and doesn't really have anything set in place for me to step into...I'm starting from scratch. I have a little bit of sales experience, but am looking for some help.

What do you recommend using to keep track of contact information/communication for leads and down the line existing clients? Here are some of the basic functions I am looking for

    • Contacts/leads listing (email, phone, description, etc) • ability to pre-write introduction emails • send batched emails to specific lists • any other functions you have found to be crucial

The software doesn't have to be free, although the more cost effective the better as it will come out of my overall budget. Thanks for all your help and suggestions

Advice for new salesman being asked to build up a sales process

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 12:44 PM PDT

    Hey all,

Apologies if this has been adequately answered in another thread. I am about a week away from receiving an offer for an inside sales rep job for a smallish sized biotechnology company. This is my first real sales job as it was a pivot out of clinical research for me. Because of COVID, this company hasn't been able to have it's typical outside sales success which is why they're building their inside sales team. From what I've gleaned, this is going to be building the inside sales process from scratch through trial, error, and analytics.

Does anyone have any books/articles/advice to help me come in and crush this role? I'm extremely excited about the responsibility I'll have coming in and I want to knock it out of the park and show the executives I'm working with that I am bringing real value to the company.

    Insurance Sales

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 12:24 PM PDT

So I'm a health insurance agent still trying to build my brand. In the meantime, I've given leads to call and I don't mind calling them but I'm trying to maximize all the leads that I get. These leads you still need to work from them. The vendor that gives us the leads I'm sure just cold calls them collects the info without doing too much pre-qualifying. So we still have to do a lot of the work to get them to talk to us and some don't even remember that they even put a request like any lead you get.

At any rate, sometimes I get a lead where the person I need to talk to is never available and I keep getting their assistant. Now the reason I don't like telling them I'm calling about health insurance is frankly whenever most people hear insurance they immediately such themselves out from anything you have to say especially the gatekeepers. They rarely ever transfer the calls or even get the message over to actual person I'm calling for.
When they ask what I'm calling in reference to, I tell them I'm getting back to them about a message they left me and its works. But for the ones that are never available like attorneys that are in and out of court. How do you guys go about getting to them or starting that conversation?

Cause when I use that and then last resort tell them it's in reference to health coverage they say "Oh yeah they aren't looking for health insurance." Like how the hell do you know the guy or gal put in the request, not you. Or they just never get back to me. I still follow up though when I do leave a message.

Company I work for pays no commission

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 08:29 AM PDT

    What's good ladies and gents?

I have been in SAAS sales for 2 years now. I recently joined a company that pays 0 commission yet promises pay increases once you have hit fully ramped quota consecutively for a number of months. I have hit quota consecutively for that number of months yet haven't received a pay increase or had it brought up (I plan to in my next 1x1). Since not being paid commission and the pay increases being so low, I feel that I hve lost motivation and drive to sell. One of the big reasons I got into sales is to make as much money as I wanted. Now I'm considering leaving sales to code. Any recommendations? Is this normal?

How to best engage prospects in SaaS Sales remotely?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 10:27 AM PDT

I have a background in industrial sales and was recently laid off because COVID. I'm talking to a SaaS startup that works within my industry (first of its kind and definitely is filling a need in the industry). The role would be 100% remote and I can work from anywhere I would want. I'm curious to hear thoughts on how people are engaging decision markers while working remotely in SaaS and how tricky it is for them to get in touch with someone etc.? It seems a lot of software needs are filled by their own research rather than by people's solicitation.

    I appreciate any insights!

Being asked for advice about marketing collateral?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 06:11 AM PDT

Work in a small SaaS/infrastructure firm, wear many hats in my role as we have no marketeers.

Been asked for my opinion by a director about an 8-page brochure that will be PDF format and is lots of text about SaaS protection, i don't have the heart to say I think its terrible idea, no one reads brochures, never mind 8 pages of PDF brochure and especially now there's very little physical meetings going on.

I did say I could use parts of the brochure as snippets during webinars and pitches, but deep down i feel prospects would block me if I sent them it

Cold calling cell phone numbers? B2B In US

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 04:00 AM PDT

I'm debating whether or not this is a good idea. Most of the cell phones I'm getting from Discover Org are personal cell numbers. Recently upset a target prospect of mine calling his personal cell so starting to reconsider. I'm selling B2B big ticket technology into IT, typically high up in the org chart.

Breaking into a specific Pharm/medical sales industry

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 07:29 AM PDT

I know everyone wants to break into medical sales, but I specifically am very passionate about dermatology pharmaceuticals and medical aesthetic sales. Allergan/AbbVie are my dream job but I'm open to any option. I'm asking to see if anyone has experience or currently is in this sector.

I have a total of 2 years of closing experience and 8 years of overall sales experience. I apply to every open job I come across but can't seem to get an interview right now. I had several interviews with Allergan in February before quarantine cancelled the opening.

I know this is a very specific ask, but I'd just love to hear any advice anyone has on getting into a very specific market. Thank you all in advance! I love this community so much and am so thankful for it.

Client Wants to Work with my Project Manager

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 06:03 AM PDT

I've been in sales for almost 20 years and have had a good amount of success. I pride myself on my customer service and the honesty and transparency that I have with my clients. We all know that sometimes we just have clients who we don't mesh well with. Recently I gained a client who works around me and goes directly to my project manager for all their needs. When new opportunities for business come up the client asks if I can have my project manager on the call or come with me to the sales appointment. It's gotten to the point of frustration. I'm 100% for the business first, so if it means my business can be successful and I lose a client/ commission for the greater good of the company than I'm okay with that. I'm just struggling with how to handle the situation and/or letting the client know to just go ahead and work with my project manager and that I'll no longer be handling the account.

Should I start working 80hrs per week?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 08:44 PM PDT

In Software sales and some folks on my team are making 500k+. I sure as fuck am not. But I think the only way to do it is to just push myself as hard as possible and be the best salesperson possible.

Do people on here ever go through these types of considerations? I feel like this could be the hardest thing I ever do... But I think I want to do it. No gf, no kids. Work, eat, sleep, shit, lift weights, repeat.

GPT-3 Explained Why You Should Use HockeyStack

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 07:22 AM PDT

This post is written entirely by AI: https://hockeystack.com/blog/analyzing-user-behavior

A lot of simple analytics tools don't analyze user behavior. They just show referrers on the dashboard. In this article, we will explain why you should use an event-based analytics tool like HockeyStack.

HockeyStack provides a powerful set of features that allow you to easily monitor all the important metrics from your website. We'll go through how to install and configure it, then we'll discuss some of the key benefits of using it. Finally, we'll talk about some specific use cases where HockeyStack can help you out. What are the events? What are they good for? How do I create them? These questions and many others will be answered in this article!

Event-based analytics tools are great for monitoring different aspects of your site. You can track conversions, bounce rates, users logging into your site, etc. There are also some additional features that let you keep tabs on the performance of certain parts of your site such as tracking users who have left your site or blocked access to it.

In this article, we're going to focus on the most common use case of event-based analytics tools: monitoring user behavior. Let's start by looking at what an event is and why you might want to monitor it.

    What is an event?

An Event Is A Trigger For Something Else To Happen Next…or Not! When someone clicks on a link on your website, you don't need to know anything else about them except that they clicked on the link.

The event was the click and what you really care about is how many people clicked on the link. But let's say you wanted to also track how many people read an article. If someone clicked on the link and then shortly after viewed the article, then it's safe to assume that they clicked through. But what if they viewed the article an hour later? What if they come back a week later and view it? Did they click the link or not?

In the first case, we know they clicked the link because they viewed the article soon after. In the second case, we don't know if they just came back to view the article or if they actually clicked through. Maybe they just like looking at articles about why black holes are fascinating.

Why you should use an event-based analytics tool?

Tools like Fathom or Plausible don't allow you to dig deeper into the data. They show you a snapshot of referrers and bounce rate and that's it. Event-based analytics tools give you access to much more detail, allowing you to drill down further into your data. For instance, let's say I'm trying to understand how people use my site and I want to find out exactly where they go on my website. I could do this by adding a page view event when someone loads any page on my site.

With event-based analytics tools, you can set an amount of time that needs to have passed before the next event is triggered. In our case, we could set it up so that if the user views the article within an hour of clicking the link, then it's considered a direct click through. Otherwise, it's considered a new session and not a click-through.

You might be wondering why we can't just set it up to do direct clicks through by default. The reason is that in the first case, we don't know if they clicked through or just came back to view the article later. By setting up the time threshold, we can decide what happens in each scenario. In our case, if they viewed within an hour, it's a direct click through. Otherwise, it's not and we can do whatever else we want with that information.

Using this same logic, you can do all sorts of things with event-based analytics tools. You can set up a conversion event that happens when someone purchases something. Or you could set up a login event for when a user logs into your site. These events can all be measured in terms of quantity, or you can measure the length of time between them (i.e. how long did the user spend on the site before logging in again?).

There are two main types of events: direct and non-direct. A direct event is when someone does something that directly leads to a certain outcome. For example, when someone purchases something, it's a direct event because their intention is to purchase something. Non-direct events are things like a page view, log in, or tweet. These don't directly lead to anything because there's no intention behind them. You can think of these as an action that the user did which you're measuring, but they don't really care about it otherwise.

The best thing about event tracking is that you can easily add more than one type of event to your dashboard. So instead of having three different types of events, you could have four! This will allow you to see how users interact with your product differently depending on what kind of content they're viewing. If you've ever used Google Analytics, then you'll notice that most reports only show one type of data for any given visitor.

With this event set up, I can then create a dashboard that shows me all the different pages they visited in order from most visited to least. This would allow me to see which pages are most important to users and what content is actually being viewed the most. The best part about events is that they're very easy to interpret and an event-based analytics tool allows you to draw conclusions.

How to Make Demo Videos that Convert and Drive Sales

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 01:33 AM PDT

Do you ever find yourself looking for unboxing videos on YouTube to get a feel for the new gadget? Maybe you already decided on buying it but still wanted to have a look. Remember those early Apple product launches? Apple as a brand was built on those turtleneck product launches. There is something inherently captivating about demo videos.

Steve Jobs said, "People don't know what they want until you show it to them."

This is exactly why Apple has a net worth of $1 Trillion. Demo videos are a great way to connect with your audience and build trust. It creates an intimacy between a lead and your product. Demo videos are done right to convert faster than OTOs (one-time offers).

New to Tech Sales and Appreciate This Sub

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 07:43 PM PDT

I'm new to tech sales and selling security (focusing on Fortinet) and we provide IT services but not managed services. My area is mostly SMB and SLED but there are a few Enterprise opportunities. While I'm just starting out I'm concentrating on cold emails and relying on my engineer once I get an appointment. I believe I have a good, concise email: 6 sentences, around 100 words and an interest-based CTA closing. I'm trying out different subject lines to see what works. So far, I'm using: Their name/ my name/ SOLUTIONS FOR NETWORK SECURITY (I'd like something more effective)

I'm scouring this sub, gathering info, reading recommended books and podcasts. I know it's a numbers game and I'm trying to make my emails personal while casting a wide net. I appreciate everything I've learned from you all and welcome any suggestions.
