Car total loss and I can't find a replacement within 500 miles. Posted: 07 Aug 2020 03:19 AM PDT Car is a total loss. I've been looking for replacements on Autotrader and Cars.com. Cars.com came up with 0 results and Autotrader came up with one result. The one result I got is a match for year, mileage, and trim/drivetrain but it's missing things like floormats, only has one key, etc. It also doesn't have a price listed so at this point I don't even know what it costs. How do I find a replacement when it doesn't really exist? I have more options if I go a year newer (but more $) or I get something my year but with higher mileage but that's not really a "replacement". What is my wiggle room with insurance on what is an "exact" replacement? I'm starting to realize even with insurance I'm going to be out money for a new (to me) car. I think I stumbled onto a good deal with my totaled car that I won't be able to find again. I'm in the North Texas area. [link] [comments] |
My Mom's been paying into a Whole Life policy since 1953 and you wouldn't believe the cash value Posted: 06 Aug 2020 10:18 AM PDT /Not an Insurance guy so be easy. State = Indiana My Mom has been faithfully making payments into a whole life policy since Dec, 1953 when she was a teen. It's AIG but presumably was another insurer back then. She's never really looked into it and when I did, I found that after 67 years of payments, the cash value is 15% less than the amount of premiums she's paid over the years. The amount of premiums paid also exceeds the face value of the policy. There were never any kind of dividends or disbursements over the years. The amount of money we're talking about is not large but to me it's the principle. For you insurance guys, is it even remotely possible that a Whole Life policy after nearly seven decades has a negative yield? Were they just investing in dirt and rocks? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Aug 2020 09:22 PM PDT On Monday 8/3/20 my car was in a hit and run, 2 witnesses saw the crash but could not identify the make and model so I am out of luck! 6 houses in the area have cameras but none of them work wtf. I made a police report with the info I received from the witnesses and then called my insurance but turns out they cant help me out until I find the party who was responsible for hitting my car. Should Geico cover me if I have uninsured motorist property damage? I dont have collision coverage on my Mazda. What can I do to get my car repaired using my insurance, this is not going to be a cheap repair if I pay out of pocket! [link] [comments] |

Could I get into an insurance claims job? Posted: 06 Aug 2020 08:23 PM PDT I'm a paralegal in Ohio for a plaintiff personal injury law firm. I'm burnout after 7 years in the field. I have experience helping people through property damage and bodily injury claims. However, I dread people who walk in with no appointment and expect you to drop everything for them. Phone calls I have no problem with as I used to be in a call center at a crisis line for 7 years prior to my paralegal career starting. Are the skills needed for an insurance job similar to paralegals? Are there any skills that I could acquire online? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Aug 2020 01:19 PM PDT I was rear-ended in a three vehicle collision at a stoplight, my car was the middle vehicle. My front bumper is damaged and I believe it is not fit to drive, as the whole frame sort of shifted and I can't even open the hood. The driver reported to the insurance company that they are at fault in explicit words, claiming that they hit the gas instead of the brakes. The police got the same report. I tried talking to the adjustor saying that my vehicle needs to be towed, as it is in a Walgreens parking lot, and they said it's my responsibility to mitigate damages to the vehicle. They asked a few questions regarding airbag, anything hanging from the vehicle or broken glass, which there isn't anything, but I believe there might be undercarriage damages. They claimed that the vehicle is safe to drive based off of that. I am unable to pay for an out-of-pocket tow and my insurance says they have no responsibility because I am not at fault. The At-Fault insurance says they need to verify liability first and that they are waiting on the police report and the at-fault driver's version and will then conduct an inspection of my vehicle. I don't understand it though, they do have the at-fault driver's statement from the initial claim. All they offered was $25 dollars/day for renting a vehicle, which would be reimbursed once they verify liability, or used for ubering around. I am under 25, so there's young driver fee so there's no vehicle I can rent for that much and I live in the Miami/FLL metropolitan area, so uber is crazy expensive to get around. Is there anything I can do to A) get my vehicle towed to a safe location and B) get compensation that matches my situation? At this point I am considering an attorney but 33% of whatever happens would be very steep if my vehicle is considered total loss/constructive total loss, since it's a 2014 entry-level car with ~75k miles. UPDATE: I drove the car home, the steering is definitely compromised but that's about it. Probably misaligned. Thank you everyone who commented. To those who said get collision: I'm poor, thanks. Posted: 06 Aug 2020 02:52 PM PDT I was recently in an accident where a man ran a red light and hit my truck. I live in kentucky, a no fault state. The insurance policies, of both of us, are liability only policies. Neither of us were drug tested at the time and it has been well past 12 hours since the accident occured. Can the insurance company force a drug test on me at this time? [link] [comments] |
Dog tied to chair damaged my car Posted: 06 Aug 2020 08:18 PM PDT So I had my car parked in a parking lot and I was in the car. There was a restaurant near my car and a couple tied their dog to a metal chair and went inside said restaurant together. Something spooked the dog so he ran and the chair followed. The metal chair smacked straight into my brand new car and did damage. I called the police but they don't do reports unless someone is injured. What do I need to do for this type of accident? Would they be covered with their auto insurance (he claims not to have any) or maybe his homeowner's insurance? Or do I have to hope they agree to pay for the damages without me having to sue them? Edit: I'm in San Jose, California [link] [comments] |
Progressive snapshot question. Delaware resident Posted: 06 Aug 2020 07:34 PM PDT One of the things the device collects in Delaware is "Trip regularity—The frequency with which you drive at the same time of day and same duration." Is that a good thing or bad? Example if you commute starts every day at 7:00 AM vs. all of your driving is random trips... Which counts against you vs. which helps your score and thus improve your rate? [link] [comments] |
Car accident with a suspended license, not faulty. Posted: 06 Aug 2020 07:15 PM PDT I got into a car accident which wasn't my fault, however, I have a suspended license. Navigating car insurance claim, needing some guidance Posted: 06 Aug 2020 03:01 PM PDT I made this post a little while back detailing an auto insurance issue I'm dealing with. Basically, other person hit me and I made the mistake of just telling their insurance company everything they asked. They're insisting on only covering 80%, without additional evidence which I have not been able to get ahold of. Now, I've got a couple of body shop quotes, one at $1700 and one at $2700. The vehicle is a 1997 Camry, so I'm confident the higher quote will result in a total, the lower number may as well. I can't afford to out-of-pocket the 20%, so I'm considering either going for the total, and hoping I can buy the vehicle back and cover partial/necessity repairs with the check they give me, or giving them the lower number in hopes they wont total, and again just repairing what I'm able/can afford. I'd really appreciate any insight on this, or direction to another sub if need be. I asked the insurance company, they said they are willing to just cut me a check. Also, I thought about small claims but I'm not sure it's worth $350, when I think I can sort all of this out without eating that cost as it is. Thank you guys for any help again. Edit: Tennessee, U.S.A [link] [comments] |
Replacement cost of a stolen car (can I negotiable with insurance company?) Montreal/QC Canada Posted: 06 Aug 2020 06:35 PM PDT My dad got his car stolen (CRV EX 2018) on the 3rd of july and the insurance company took around 1 month to decide that they finally will pay up. They gave an estimation today that needs to be approved by the manager. Will we be able to negotiate that amount? Since the given amount is lower than what the dealerships are willing to sell. It seems like the accessories weren't included in that amount. Are there any advice/caution I need to be aware of to not get a low amount? Am I allowed to ask for the report they used to valuate the value of a new car for current year? The cars also had extra accessories. Will it be included in that check or a second check. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Aug 2020 07:17 AM PDT There were two witnesses, but in all the commotion of a double-deployment front-end collision and a flaming car, I didn't think to ask them for their numbers before they drove away. One of the witnesses was literally stopped at the red light that this lady ran which caused the accident. Local PD claimed they confirmed with dispatch they have two callers who were witnesses. My adjuster claims they are getting in touch with local dispatch to retrieve these numbers and reach the individuals, but I'm somewhat in the dark. I have two very experienced attorneys ready to (*try*) to bring a hammer down on this incompetent asshole who ran the light and won't own up to it. What am I missing? What would you all suggest? Luckily none of us were injured, and I know I made a huge mistake not immediately getting witnesses' numbers. But surely there's a right course of action here that doesn't involve me getting fucked for something I was blatantly innocent of? [link] [comments] |

Question about salvage buyback for a total loss clain Posted: 06 Aug 2020 02:35 PM PDT I work in customer service for a major insurance company handling home and auto insurance, so I understand the basics, but I have a question about a claim that I was involved in, and I never worked in claims so I am hoping you folks can help! A week and a half ago I was driving in small town Pennsylvania and a driver coming the other way sneezed and hit the drivers side of my car. The rear wheel took the impact so even though it doesn't look too bad my 2014 ford focus was deemed a total loss. I filed a claim with my insurance and they offered me what I figure is fair ($7800, although I have to wait for the last $500 of it because my deductible is $500). In the past I had a car totaled from a single vehicle accident ( with a different company) and they offerred to let me buy it for salvage value and fix it if I wanted to. Under the current claim I asked about that, and they said I would have to get a salvage title, get the car fixed, have it inspected and get a rebuilt title issued before they would pay anything, and then the payment would be about $5400. I get the payment being less, but why can't I just buy the junk car back? Is this typical? I know I could get it fixed for less than the estimate, especially since I don't care what it looks like as long as it's safe to drive. [link] [comments] |
Contractor completed work that had not been approved yet Posted: 06 Aug 2020 06:19 PM PDT I'll try to be as brief and concise as possible. Water damage claim that involves three separate estimates: 1 for mitigation, 1 for repairs, and 1 for floors and contents removal. The mitigation and repair estimates were both approved and the work was completed. There was some back and forth between the contractor and the adjuster about the floors/contents removal. The contractor wants to move forward with moving out contents and starting on floors. My position was no, not until estimate is approved. Adjuster is unreachable for a few days. Contractor says they have approval on their estimate and begin pack out and work on floors. Now they are saying there is some back and forth on the contents removal estimate (so it wasn't approved??) and they are unable to move contents back into home until funds have been released. Contractor mentioned if insurance doesn't come through then "this is when liens start happening." How should I play this? Contractor told me the estimate was approved, now they're saying it's not really approved because there's still back and forth on certain line items (?????), adjuster is saying their estimates are ridiculous, and all our stuff is stuck in a warehouse. Squirrel damaged my wiring and SRS airbag system Posted: 06 Aug 2020 01:26 PM PDT I drive a 2015 Honda Civic that's in excellent condition and has just over 100,000 kms on it. A few weeks ago I turned on my car and was unexpectedly greeted by several warnings on my dashboard screen such as "Check airbags" or "Check Powersteering". There were about 6 or 7 similar warnings. The car was working perfectly fine mechanically speaking but I booked an appointment with my Honda dealer as soon as possible to get this looked into. Here is my issue, they quickly identified the problem as rodent damage and they told me it could be very expensive to fix. However they told me they had a master level technician who felt he could repair my wiring for about $250 dollars. This seemed like a good deal to me so I gave them the go ahead. They called me two hours later and said that they had managed to fix almost everything but they had discovered that my SRS airbag system had been damaged and some parts would need to be replaced. The new total was $1700 if I gave them to go ahead to fix this. At this point I looked at my insurance coverage and saw that this should fall under my comprehensive coverage. So I called them and started a claim. Everything seemed good at first but now they are trying to deny the claim because my repair shop already tried to patch the problem. Should I not still be covered for this? I know that insurance companies like to be contacted before any work has been done but I had no way of knowing that it was going to be this expensive until after the patch had already been done. I'm located in Ontario Canada. Sorry this is so long lol. [link] [comments] |
Driver @ Fault refusing to cooperate Posted: 06 Aug 2020 10:27 AM PDT I filed a claim on 7/18/2020 and the evidence (camera footage, damage, etc) is clear that the other driver is at fault but they are unwilling to cooperate and answer the calls, mails, etc of the adjuster in charge of the claim. At the time of accident, the insured was in the passenger seat and his friend (unlicensed) was driving his car. The adjuster said that once 31 days is over, the claim will be closed and I will receive no compensation whatsoever unless they get a statement from their insured, despite the evidence showing that they were at fault. Is this a common situation where the person at fault avoids calls until the claim is finally closed? I was wondering if anything could be done besides filing a claim to my insurance, since it's obviously not my fault. Edit: This is for Texas btw and their insurance is American Access Casualty (absolute trash) avoid them if possible. When I called the first few times, the adjuster answered but then I kept calling and she didn't pick up my calls until I finally decided to use a different number and she finally answered, absolute worst insurance company. All the bad reviews on their company is true ... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Aug 2020 03:06 PM PDT So I was on my way home on I -24 in Tennessee when a mower team taking care of the highway went over a patch of rocks and one of them went up and smashed my passenger quarter panel window. I contacted my insurance and it's 500$ and then I contacted a third party and it was $550 is there any way that the highway workers have insurance that covers it? [link] [comments] |
Parental Life Insurance w/o contact? Posted: 06 Aug 2020 02:16 PM PDT Insurance Pros, For a lot of r/raisedbynarcissists reasons, I am not in contact with my mother and will not be ever again. I expect she will likely die in the next ten years and the financial and logistical burden of planning for this woman's funeral will fall to the only sibling who is still in contact with her. This sibling does not have the financial resources to do so and I neither expect that to change, nor think she should have to take on that burden (absent a 50 year old woman handling her own shit, the child with the most financial resources/principle of least harm to handle this is me). Additionally, she is prone to emotional outbursts and "you took out life insurance on mom, but won't speak to her?" Is a ruthless and pragmatic conversation I do not intend to have with her. Is there a way for me to open a term life insurance policy with me as the beneficiary (so I can then delve out cash to my siblings for their travel expenses, and funeral expenses) without anyone in my family knowing? If so, how? My only interactions with Life Insurance have been $100k+ (I'm looking at $50k ish) and required SSNs, current addresses, and health exams. Location is US and UT/AR [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Aug 2020 08:11 AM PDT Edit for location: Rhode Island, USA, insurance company is Massachusetts based. So, I already know dental insurance is a crazy ride and I inherited my father's awful teeth, so I've got all sorts of work done. A couple weeks ago, one of my crowns came loose. The dentist couldn't get me in for a re-cement until today (which is its own sad story) and unfortunately I swallowed the damn thing earlier this week. When I did get in, I had a great surprise in that the insurance company won't cover a new crown because the old one is only four years old. I left the office and pulled up the old EOB from the insurance company website, and it turns out that the company didn't even pay for the crown. My other dental work had already exhausted my benefits, and I paid for the crown out of pocket. It seems intuitive to me that insurance should definitely cover a new crown since they let me cover the last one, but I'm not an insurance professional. Can anyone guide me on strategies to contest this? I don't really have the money to pay for a crown out of pocket right now, and another year of this liquid diet might break my spirit. GEICO MISLED ME AND I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE ADVISE ME. PLEASE Posted: 06 Aug 2020 10:25 PM PDT Tl;DR GEICO has completely screwed me and I cannot afford car insurance any longer because they (I feel) purposely misled me. I truly need advice. I have typed the following so many times, in so many reviews, comments and message boards, that I finally just typed it out in a Word Document, so I could just copy and paste. I really need any advice, anyone can offer. I am in a really bad situation and do not know what to do. Please point me in the right direction. This is super long. I'm so sorry. In October 2019, I had what was not even a fender bender in a parking garage. My back passenger quarter panel scraped against the bumper of the other guy's truck. Keep in mind, they too were backing out of a parking space. We bumped. It left a 7-inch scratch on my vehicle, and two paint chips on their back bumper, in the very corner (I was in a car, they were in a truck). We swap info, and I offer to pay for the paint chips out of pocket. They call me two days later with an estimate of $1800, saying they need to replace their bumper!! I call Geico. I spoke to a nice lady and explained the situation. She agreed that I was being scammed. However, I said that I would rather pay for the damage if my premium would go up. The lady says, and I'm paraphrasing, but it is all recorded, I'm sure. "Mr. B, that is what we are here for, to protect you against things like this. I DOUBT VERY SERIOUSLY we will be concerned with a couple of paint chips when it is time to renew.." Cool. Thanks, Geico, for having my back. I upload pictures of the damage to their vehicle (at this point, I'm not even concerned with the scratch on my car. I buffed it out myself). Two little paint chips on the absolute corner of their truck's golden painted bumper (I have pics). Low and behold…renewal comes around, and they are charging me approximately $100 more per month. I can't afford this!! I had to drop my coverage to the absolute bare minimum so my rate would only increase $30 per month. So, here I am…paying an extra $360/year, with my coverage severely lessened. I let it go. But hold up…6 months later, I receive an email that my insurance will increase by another $100 / month. What??? I definitely can't afford this…especially during these times…I call customer service. I hold for 15-20 minutes (the recording says it is longer than usual wait times due to the Coronavirus affecting their employees. (I'm happy they care for their employees, at least.) The lady I spoke to, was a different lady but also very nice. I inquire about the increase, explaining what happened last time, and how the lady said she DOUBTED my insurance premium would increase…especially over paint chips (again, I have pictures of the damage). She puts me on hold. She comes back. Again, paraphrasing, "I don't have good news, Mr. B., it appears the increase in your premium is the REMAINDER OF THE INCREASE due to that accident (that they DOUBTED would increase my premium). It will stay on your record for 3 years." THE REMAINDER???? What the actual F@$*!!!!! Really? So, now my premium has increased by a total of $1560 / year, for 3 years, at a total of $4680.00, at the very bare minimum, as I'm sure it will remain this price for well after the 3 years. If only, they had NOT MISLED me, I could have just paid for the guy's bumper and saved well over $2880. But NOPE. Geico got me. Now, I can't even shop around, as they have reported "an at fault accident". So they have created a situation, where I have NO choice. I bet they're all drinking a cold one and laughing at the little guy, as I type this. The sad part is, why should they care? I'm sure someone got a little bonus for fucking me. This ONE GUY'S HARDSHIP will never affect their bottom line. Geico is all good until you actually need their protection. I'm very upset and disappointed with Geico. When I really, really needed them, they pulled a bait and switch. Don't think they won't do it to you also. Do I have any options? I cannot afford this. Not even a little bit. I'm seriously worried about this. Do I just let the insurance lapse and pray I don't have an accident or get pulled over...or do I forfeit my lease and live in my car? Do I have any means of recourse? Please, any guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much. [link] [comments] |
ExamFX or AD Banker for little to no experience? Posted: 06 Aug 2020 01:05 PM PDT I'm in the process of getting hired by a local insurance company (Illinois) but I obviously need to get my licenses. They recommended AD banker and when I asked about examfx they hadn't heard of it but said whatever I felt better about. I'm completely new to insurance, I'd like to preface the search suggestions with that. Does anybody have any experience with both or either of these more recently? I was planning on doing the middle options for either, that includes flashcards for adbanker and some extra things for examfx (can't remember them all off the top of my head). Adbanker is almost or just about half the price, but I haven't really gotten a ton of reviews on it from reddit and most have been 2+ years old. If anyone can suggest and inform me on some information I'd greatly appreciate it. I have a few weeks to do this, but if I have 0 previous experience. Which would you recommend for material that does the best job getting you to understand everything? Also, any tips and resources are appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Auto Body refusing to send estimate and photos to my insurance Posted: 06 Aug 2020 09:05 AM PDT Hey Ya'll. I live in California. My car was involved in a hit and run that resulted in damages to the back bumper and tail light. I am insured through StateFarm. I took my car to Jim's Auto Body (affiliated with StateFarm) for an estimate. They did the normal procedure: took photos and printed an estimate. A couple of days goes by and I call StateFarm with the hopes of doing a cash settlement, but they told me they haven't received the estimate from the body shop. When I called the body shop to have the pictures sent, the guy told me "we aren't that kind of auto shop. We don't do cash settlement, we only fix." He was very stern in his stance. To be honest, I was pretty shocked. I have never had a body shop affiliated with StateFarm refuse to send information to the insurance company. You guys have any advice? Does he, by law, have to send the information to my insurance? Luckily I have a print out of the estimate. Should I take my own pictures? When I called StateFarm today to tell them what happened, the lady on the phone laughed and said it happens sometimes and that some body shops take it personal when customers want cash settlement. Jeez... [link] [comments] |
Insurance doubling for a new car, is that normal? Posted: 06 Aug 2020 12:43 PM PDT I was involved in an accident two weeks ago. I had an 07 jeep which ended up being totaled. They paid out and now I have decided to go to a smaller vehicle, better crash ratings, fuel mileage, etc. And my insurance has doubled. I was paying $1700 a year for full coverage w/ $1000 deductible. New quote for the newer vehicle is $3300 with the same coverage and deductible. Is this normal, as I thought changing from a v8 hemi jeep to a Toyota Corolla would stay about the same. Located in Michigan. [link] [comments] |
