The CPA Test: nothing more capitalistic than doing a job, then studying after doing said job to get licensed to do the job you are already doing.

    I just want to quit

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 08:06 PM PDT

I've been struggling with getting through all my work since July. I just feel so burnt out. Every time I open a return for review I want to cry and I don't know if I have it in me to work crazy hours until 10/15. I just want to quit and switch to industry but I'm not sure I'll find anything. I don't even want to put in my 2 weeks, I want to quit effective immediately. I have an emergency savings fund of about 1 year of expenses so as long as I find something within then I should be okay. I don't have any kids, wife or anyone else I would need to support. I really hate public accounting, it's not worth it.

When a girl asks what you do and you tell her you work in Accounting

Didn’t get the entry level job

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 12:46 PM PDT

Feeling deflated. The company I interviewed with decided they weren't "100 percent sure on what they were looking for as they are restructuring". I would've been better off being told I do not have the skills necessary to take on a simple associate job. After struggling to get through school due to depression, and graduating into a pandemic, I can now fully say I feel hopeless as to my choice in pursuing accounting.

I know I have the brains to become a high achiever in the field, and I know that attending CPA classes in the fall, and crushing those, will allow me to get ahead academically at the least, but not having that experience and ability to even call myself a "junior accountant" is crushing me.

Why did I even choose this field? I'd have been better off working in a labour union.

What's the biggest lie you've told for work? Either to others or yourself.

Anyone get called out by the client for sending emails at night?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 02:36 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

So I'm in risk advisory and it's kind of our "busy season" (quotes since it's not as busy as external by any means) so I'm naturally working late hours.

Sent a PBC request Monday around 10:30 pm after finally figuring out what support was needed. Client got back to me few days later with the support and topped it off by saying "I admire your dedication but 10:30 is too late to be working in August".

I have a fairly cordial relationship with this specific individual from the client side so I'm no sure how to take this. Is this kind of a scolding/call out or just a side comment. Or am I totally overthinking this? Just don't want to cause any strained relationships.

Also if this is professionally not acceptable, is there a cut off typically for sending emails to the client for a given day? Never had this happen to me before so just curious.

How far does a US accounting degree and experience go in other countries.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 08:18 AM PDT

I earned my bachelor's in accounting from a US university a few years ago, and have been working as an industry accountant for a retailer for about 3 years now. I got the job not long after graduating, and I've been there ever since.

If I were to move to a different country, such as Canada, New Zealand, or Australia, what would be the main differences I'd be seeing as an accountant? Would I even be able to find work there?

International accounting was never a big part of my degree, but I've been brushing up and at first glance nothing looks too complicated. But what are the actual expectations I should have if I move to a foreign country and look for accounting work? If I do find something, is it easy enough to adapt? Any insight is welcome.

Ernst & Young oversees the NBA Draft

    https://www.nba.com/nba-draft-lottery-explainer

If the same team comes up more than once, the result is discarded and another four-ball combination is selected. Also, if the one unassigned combination is drawn, the result is discarded and the balls are drawn again. The length of time the balls are mixed is monitored by a timekeeper who faces away from the machine and signals the machine operator after the appropriate amount of time has elapsed.

Darrington Hobson, a partner in the accounting firm of Ernst & Young, oversees the entire lottery process and stuffs and seals the envelopes before bringing them to the studio for the broadcast. The announcement of the lottery results will be made by Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum.

Need Advice - CPA Requirements MA

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 07:33 PM PDT

Wanted to get input from those who have their CPA in the state of Mass. I currently just applied for my NTS in the state of Massachusetts, but am not sure what the outcome will be. I have 150 credit hours from an AACSB accredited school (in Ohio), which is not the problem. The problem I see arising is that I did not take a management/cost accounting cost. To clarify, I took the standard Introduction to managerial accounting course my freshman year, but not an advanced level. I'm looking for input on whether or not you all think course fulfills that requirement, or if I should look into signing up for a last minute online Managerial Accounting course through my university? I won't know the definitive answer for 2-4 weeks, especially due to COVID, but I would like to cover my bases if it's likely to be denied.
