Wife had dental procedure and filed with 2 insurance companies and neither will cover the expenses

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 04:28 PM PDT

My wife had a dental procedure about a year ago and filed under both my insurance and her dads insurance since she was still on his plan. She figured it would be beneficial, but it has been a nightmare.

I thought it was dealt with, but I saw a letter on the table mailing a payment to a collections company.

Neither insurance company is wanting to cover it and both are saying the other is the primary. My wife said she had both of them on the phone at the same time on a 3 way call and both said that the other was the primary again.

Is there any way to resolve this with the insurance companies? I think that it's ridiculous because she is hardly the first person to have 2 policies.

    We are located in Georgia.

Wind damage claim denied due to “improperly installed siding”

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 06:34 PM PDT

    Hello, r/insurance!

Last month I filed a claim with my HO carrier (Hanover) regarding some wind damage that occurred this past April. The damage was minimal (trim around window blown out and a hole in gable vent), but enough to potentially be an issue. Unfortunately the original adjuster could not come out for the inspection (illness), so it was just their contractor that did the inspection.

About a week later I received a call from the new adjuster and was told the claim was denied. He mentioned that while the roof looked good (was never part of my claim, and had been replaced in 2019) the siding/vent claims were denied due to the siding being improperly installed. We've been in the house for two years and I'm not handy enough to even attempt to install siding, so it wasn't me. I checked my pre-purchase home inspection regarding siding and there was no mention of how it was installed.

The official rejection letter came today and there's nothing regarding appeals or anything (not that I'd expect that.)

Do I have the option to get a second opinion? Can it be overturned with evidence from my initial inspector? Not sure where to go next since I've never dealt with something like this.

    Thanks!

I'm covered under my mom's auto insurance policy because it just made more financial sense but I am the only one on the title to my vehicle and own it outright... It was totaled and now they say they can only make a check out to both my mom and myself...?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 04:40 PM PDT

I was originally told that being the owner of my car out right, meaning I had no loan from the bank or financing, that whenever I came to an agreement with the total loss adjuster after my car was deemed totaled in an accident, the funds could then be deposited directly into a checking out of my liking and that I could even give them just my debut card number and the funds would be available sometimes within the same day but if not, usually the next business day.

A few minutes ago, the claims adjuster told me that because my mom's the policies main holder, that even though it's my car and she's not on the title, that they would have a to send a physical check that's made out to both me and my mom... How is that possible??

Will insurance companies take police crash reports into account?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2020 12:00 AM PDT

I looked at the police crash report and it pretty clearly states that the person who hit me is at fault (She had multiple violations, it said her actions caused the crash and that she hit me). Does this mean the insurance companies will find her at fault?

Quick question about a claim with my renters insurance

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 10:53 PM PDT

So I've made my claim and all that and there's so much more that i could go into but to keep it short, part of my claim is moldy clothes. Should I keep all the moldy clothes as proof? Or can I just take pictures and toss them?

Edit: I live in Washington state in the USA, king county if that's helps at all

Car getting written off for being vandalized

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 09:07 AM PDT

Hi so my car was keyed and kicked on the weekend and I made an insurance claim as I have comprehensive on my policy. It's a 20 year old car so the market value for the car is is not very high. I've put tons of money and time into the car for modifications and such so it's worth a hell of a lot more than the market value to me. The inspector took a look at it today and I'm scared they're gonna write off the car instead of helping me get it fixed. Is there anything I can do like deny it being written off or will I have options? They haven't called me yet about it so I'm not sure what to expect Any advice would be appreciated. I'm in Canada btw if that makes any difference Thanks

Is there a way to get glasses AND contacts in the same year using 2 different insurances?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 10:04 PM PDT

My insurance is changing due to the company I work for being bought out. I am covered until the end of the month under the old plan. This made me wonder if I could get contacts covered by my current insurance and then go back once I'm enrolled in the new vision plan to get glasses. I'm not too familiar with all of this and want to know if this is possible?

    I'm located in Tennessee.

Basement flood - damaged audio equipment.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 01:26 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I had a flood in the basement from a leaking pipe. The drip saturated a couch along with a carpet. The water pooled in a 15x15' area and was there for around a week or so. Mold developed on the couch, carpet and a few other items.

I run a dehumidifier in the basement at RH value of 50%. When I discovered the water the dehumidifier was over 80%. Mind you the unit is located 30 feet away from where the water was pooling. I would assume that the RH was even higher in the directly affected area.

I have a lot of vintage audio/ electronics in the basement worth over 50k. Some of this gear was sitting directly in the water or is located within 10 to 15 feet from where the water was pooled.

The cleanup crew came and only removed the couch and carpet. I raised my concerns about the insulation and other items needing to be addressed, but they said they didn't see any visible mold and that they couldn't touch it. Frankly I feel that is asinine. Water was pooled for a week with a RH of over 80%, there is no way in my mind that the insulation isn't affected. If you go into the basement with out a mask you have trouble breathing right away.

Now for the real question. How do I address the audio gear? I tested one receiver and a few of the lights are no longer working and the pots were a little scratchy from oxidation/ corrosion. I'm afraid that this has affected my whole collection. Almost all of the gear is no longer acquirable at this point and repairing it is difficult and in some cases isn't even an option.

What should I be doing to ensure the best possible outcome?

Should I have someone on my side? If so, who should I look to hire?

Thank you for all the help.

Is month to month insurance possible?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 06:51 PM PDT

My kid lives in another state and visits me from time to time throughout the year. They have a license, but they don't have a car and since they don't live with me, I didn't think it was worth putting them on insurance year round. So my question is, if my kid was home for say a month, and I wanted them to be able to drive my car while they're here, what's my best option for them?- so that they are driving my car while uninsured

Where/how to obtain policy terms / legal speak without actually buying a policy.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 05:38 PM PDT

Title. I'm shopping for auto insurance for a motorcycle that my auto insurer does not cover. I won't purchase a policy without being able to review the lawyer speak in full, and in advance. I asked Progressive for this information via email and they refused.

Anyone know of companies that WILL provide this information in writing in advance, or where I can obtain (officially or otherwise) the legal terms that Progressive usually assigns to motorcycle policies? (I'm aware the details of the policy could differ slightly from person to person, but it'll suffice for my needs).

To be clear, the details given via quotes are not what I'm seeking.

    Policy from 2 different carriers?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 04:41 PM PDT

I have a great history with State Farm and I have 2 of my primary vehicles covered at an amazing rate along with home owners coverage.

I purchased a 15 year old project car and only wanted liability on this car as it's worth maybe 7k.

I called State Farm to add this car (BMW 330i ZHP) and was told they cannot put just liability on this car, I would have to take just liability coverage for all or full coverage for all. Anyway, I pay 170 a month for 2 cars, 2 drivers, and home owners included. If I add this beater project car then my policy goes to almost 300, or goes to 110 but liability only.

    WA STATE

Am I allowed to keep my State Farm as is for my 2 cars at full coverage and get a separate policy from Geico for my project car?

How do I test drive cars without insurance?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 03:10 PM PDT

Hi all. I got my license 11 months ago but never gotten a car. I can purchase one now, but the thing is, how can I go about test driving a car without insurance?

Yes, I'm aware dealers normally may insure their cars for test driving from what I've heard, but what about cars that I want to test drive that are owned privately?

Another thing is, I haven't drove in a while and wanted to refresh, so I was going to rent a car and drive for a day or two when traffic is quiet. Again, no insurance. I'm aware credit cards can provide it, but just my luck that Discover decided to remove that insurance from their cards. :|

I heard about Non-owner insurance, but what happens when I purchase a car? Does it convert to what type of car I have? Is non-owner insurance cheaper? What type of insurance should I pick for non-owners? Just liability? I'm honestly really confused. Thanks

Help with some technical Insurance terminology / definitions.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 02:04 PM PDT

Hi, I've been looking through some insurance data in my studies (excel spreadsheet), which shows details of Inurance claims that have been made for a particular insurance company.

It contains some terminology I cannot entirely decipher.

    1. It says "entries starting with TP_ show number of third parties involved in an accident in each category". (For example "TP-type-van" or "TP-type-cyclist") What does "third party" refer to in these cases? Is it anyone involved in the incident outside of the Insurer and Insuree?

    2. It refers to different types of notifiers of an insurance claim, such as "PH", "CNF", "NamedDriver". Are these common vehicle insurance terms, and what do they refer to?

    3. Finally, it speaks of "Notification period", and gives examples of various numbers from 0 onwards. Is this the period in which a company is notified of the claim? And what unit of time does this refer to?

    Thank you for your help.

Edit: Since the bot asked, I'm in the UK :)

Uninsured motorist coverage for a motorcycle

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 01:12 PM PDT

I just bought a (new to me) bike, a Ducati Monster 1200S. My current insurance is ~$70 a month for full coverage, which I am very happy with as a 22 year old on such a large engine bike. The insurance is through Geico In Pennsylvania USA, and if it matters a $500 deductible.

If i want to add uninsured motorist coverage, it will jump to over $100 a month. I can afford that, but do i need it? A 40% price increase seems ridiculous so I want to be certain before I pull the trigger on it.

Im pretty ignorant about how insurance works, as far as I understand, if i wrap my bike around a tree, it will take my $500 deductible to get a new one. But if I wrap my bike around a car thats uninsured, i just get nothing?

This just seems stupid to me,,, but I felt the same when I first learned about paying taxes myself lol. If insurance is legally mandated, why do i have to pay extra for the people who dont have coverage, even if i have full coverage with a deductible?

    Any advice is appreciated!

Hit a deer in 2019 Mercedes, $11.3k in damage. Diminished value claim?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 11:26 AM PDT

My car is fucking cursed. It's been in and out of the shop for a multitude of issues, and just last week I hit a deer and did $11,300 in damage. Last year the windshield broke and it took a month and two attempts to get the windshield on correctly, which resulted in water leaking into my floor. It's currently worth $26,000 and I'm doing my best to pay off the negative equity and get rid of it.

Since it's so new and that's a lot of damage, can I ask someone to assess the current value of the car? It's being fixed by a certified Benz body shop but no one buying a luxury car wants one that's been in an accident. I have GEICO and they've been great so far but I'm really concerned about the drop in value. I live in NY.

    Stolen Car - Reimbursement Claim

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 11:02 AM PDT

    Hi all,

My car was stolen a couple of months ago, and seems unlikely to be found. The insurance claim form I am filling out is asking for customization details (anything aftermarket I had installed). The form says "Please include brand name and model information". The representative that is assisting with my case says to only list items I have receipts for or pictures of.

Problem is the previous owner had invested $3500 in the stereo system of the vehicle, and I don't have any pictures or receipts of the parts, or even exact model numbers, just his word, the brand and the total cost. Should I try to piece out the stereo cross referencing their current lineup and my memory of what the speakers/amp looked like? Or should I just list "JL Audio Stereo System $3500", and then if asked to prove then reference this info from the previous owner? The former option seems less likely to be questioned, but if they do question the latter at least has some evidence backing it up.
A bit of money seems to be on the line with this, so would like approach with best chances for success.Thanks.

EDIT: Insurance company is Geico, car was stolen in Portland, Oregon, and registered in Washington.
