Thought you might get a giggle out of this

Just drove 40 mins to quote a job. Its probably worth about $1500. The lady told me she had no money and asked me if she could pay me in massages.

    Ffs. 😂

We have a strong competitor moving in next door in a few months.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:09 AM PDT

Our restaurant is one that pays the bills but does not make enough to even upgrade our cr*ppy AC unit. I feel that if this new competitor takes up enough market share we will lose our restaurant.

I am trying to put together a marketing plan/calendar to play defense in retaining our customer base and offense to fight for new foot traffic.

Can anyone chime in with resources/ideas I can use to help put together our plan of action?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Because of the pandemic, i started my online business and PH. I actually joined here in reddit to learn more about managing small businesses and of course to broaden my network as well. Can someone tell me tips on how i could promote it online? Btw, i sell handmade woven masks so we could preserve all those surgical masks with frontliners (they needed it most). Thanks for your tips! :)

    Newbie Question

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:11 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I have a silly question I'm hoping someone can help me with. I was wondering if it's ok for a business to send an invoice for services outside of its norm. As in what it's registered to do. I own a small car detailing business and a youth organisation has asked me to show other young people how to start this business. I'm not an educational provider, or business expert I just detail cars. Is it OK to charge for mentoring/teaching even though technically I'm not qualified in this area?

    Thanks

Which web shop system to sell repeating offline training classes?! Wheelie training?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2020 02:41 AM PDT

Hey guys✌️🤠, with a friend we want to set up a web shop for a physical motorcycle training (Wheelie training) with recurring event dates and I am searching my ass of for the perfect website platform for that.

    https://imgur.com/a/m4sUgCf

Which web platform would you recommend for selling repeating offline trainings?

    PROBLEM:

Most platforms are designed for products not services (Shopify) or are not state of the art design wise (Woocommerce). I would love to have a crystal clear typo, images and icons, and a dynamic, responsive design like webflow pages. But I think webflow is not yet ready for that.

    Priority 1:

    • Schedule bookings

    • Repeating appointments without creating them again

    • User view: See how many seats are left -> create: fear of missing out

    • Payment integration and deposit options/down payment

    • Affiliate options

    Priority 2:

    • Easy installation -> like Shopify

    • Not to expensive variable cost for additional integrations or plugins. But I am willing to pay for a one-time fixed cost for a theme or so J

    • Responsive dynamic designs like webflow pages

    • Retina crystal clear images and icons

    • Integration possibility of sales funnel services like clickfunnels, unbounce or builderall

With all the experts and the know-how we have here in the group, I am so excited to hear what tips you can give me. Cheers to all of you and of course you could come around if you are living near Germany🤙😃

How to Use Reddit to Generate New Blog Post Ideas

    Posted: 09 Jul 2020 02:08 AM PDT

I've removed some of the basics about Reddit from this article for obvious reasons.

Note: There are screenshots that accompany this content but I can't post them here. Anyway, you know Reddit well already so you'll know what the pictures will be like.

Coming up with new blog post ideas for your blog can be difficult and time-consuming. We've all been there. Sitting at our computers trying to work out what we should write about next.

Social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest are good for building up a following, and sharing posts but aren't always that useful for generating new ideas for what you should write about.

One of the best sites to turn to for generating blog post ideas is Reddit. Yes, Reddit – if done right it's an amazing traffic generator for your blog and for coming up with new blog post ideas.

Reddit has a bit of a reputation for being the home of web geeks, video gamers and the like – but if used properly by bloggers it can be an amazing marketing tool. Reddit is full of useful content that can be mined for blog post ideas, you just need to know how to find them!

Why is Reddit good for generating blog post ideas?

Constantly generating new blog post ideas is hard for marketers of all levels of experience. Reddit is the 5th most visited website in the world and has highly engaged users. According to MediaKix the average Redditor uses the site for 16 minutes per day and visits an average of 10.1 pages per session. With over 300 million users visiting the site per month there is a trove of valuable information for marketers to mine for blog post ideas.

One of the best ways to find ideas for blog posts is to find out what your readers/ customers want to talk about and find out what problems they have. You can search Reddit for content that is generating a lot of upvotes and is been read a lot by the community in your niche, and then rewrite these discussions into a blog post. The fact it is popular on Reddit will make it more likely that it will also be popular on your blog.

Reddit also allows you to ask questions and get answers back from a very knowledgeable group of users in your niche. It's certainly a lot quicker than having to reach out to industry insiders by email to get their views on topics of interest.

Reddit users can remain anonymous, so they are much more likely to give frank and honest answers to people's questions. The karma points systems reward people for giving the best answers as well.

So how can you use Reddit to generate great blog post ideas?1. Start by finding subreddits that are related to your niche:

The easiest way to find subreddits is to search for them on the Reddit.com homepage. For example, let's say your company offers a tool for bloggers, simply search for blogging and you'll find reddit.com/r/blogging as the top subreddit, as well as hundreds of more subreddits like r/entrepreneur, r/blogs, r/blogsnark, and r/wordpress

You can then 'join' all the subreddits related to your niche, which will allow you to participate in them by asking questions, responding to questions, and posting other media into them like pictures, videos, and links to your blog posts. It's a good idea to join a range of subreddits so you can get the most out of the site and get a wider range of views. The problems faced by bloggers writing for their companies will be a lot different from the problems faced by bloggers who write a personal blog.

    1. Find out what problems people are having, and what topics are being discussed:

Once you have found a subreddit to explore, search for problems people are having, this will allow you to generate blog posts ideas that help people solve these problems. The easiest way is to filter posts by 'question' – which you can do in the right-hand column….

Once we have a list of questions asked by users in the subreddit we can then filter them out by selecting 'Top Posts'. This will give you the following information:

Straight away you've got some great ideas for blog posts, such as:

    • Where can I find experts in my niche?
    • Should I use a free or paid blogging platform?
    • Do blog posts need to be lengthy to make a blog profitable?
    • How many images should I have in a blog post?
    • Should I embed YouTube videos into my blog posts?

You can then go deeper into a specific question…

If we look at the question "Do blog posts need to be lengthy to make a blog profitable and a success?" …

We can then find the top answers, such as this one….

And then use this information to help shape the structure, and topic of your blog post. Make sure you read through the replies to learn the best answers. A deep dive into the answers will allow you to see what other problems Redditors have had and what solutions have worked for them.

It's important to also pay attention to the specific phrases people are using to describe their problems, and solutions. Tracking these keywords and then using them in your own writing can be very effective when it comes to search engine optimization. A great tool to use to automate keyword research is called Keyworddit, which can be used to find the most used phrases within a specific subreddit. Go to Keyworddit and enter your subreddit, in our case 'blogging':

And the website will then show all the top phrases within the subreddit…

As you can see from the results, phrases such as 'creative commons images', 'make extra money' and 'social media platforms' rank very high as phrases used within subreddits a lot. This could be used to create blog posts around where to source the best creative commons compliant pictures from, the best ways to monetize your blog, and the best social media platforms to use to promote your blog.

Another good way to get content ideas is to post questions yourself. Reddit is a great tool for crowdsourcing research. You can post your questions the relevant subreddits, inviting followers of that subreddit to give you their best answers. For example, you could ask "what websites do you use to find photos for your blog posts?". You could use the best answers to write a blog post about the best websites on the internet to source pictures for blog posts.

Reddit has a subreddit called 'AskReddit' too. Bloggers can use this tool to search for questions people have asked the Reddit community within their niche/ industry. It will show you questions asked across several different subreddits. For example, if you search for blogging questions you get the following:

You could also run an AMA or 'Ask Me Anything'. These are crowdsourced question and answer sessions that you can run. One idea would be to get your company CEO or a Chief Product Officer to run them, and then mine the questions and answers for blog post ideas. The same can be done for industry professionals' AMA's that are related to your niche.

Here is an AMA run by a successful blogger…

Look at top questions and answers like this one…

Throughout this thread, there is an amazing trove of information for generating blog post ideas. In the example above you could do a post about the best ways to monetize your blog using the information from this AMA (or a collection of them). You could even do a post that essentially just reports on what the AMA was about, and the best information from it. This would be especially good if the person doing it is well-known in your industry and is offering great insights.

    1. Create and share your content

The final step is to create your new blog post. Using all that you have learned you will be able to write a much more informative article for your readers. You could also turn what you have learned into a series of posts, that could dive much deeper into the topic over several blog posts. This is especially useful if it is a large topic with a lot to cover. You could also use the information you have learned to create informative videos and do a podcast – even inviting top Reddit users to be on the podcast with you!

If you've followed the steps above you should have plenty of questions, answers, and suggestions to incorporate into a new blog post. The best posts will not just repeat what you have discovered on Reddit, they will interpret and present the information gained into a completing and informative post. If you include quotes from a Redditor in your blog post don't forget to link to their Reddit post and then send them a message letting them know you have mentioned them. You should also go back to the Reddit threads you used above and share your blog post with the whole community. You can even private message the original forum poster and tell them about your blog post that answers their question. If you answer the question well, then your content will be viewed in the future as well by future users looking at the forum.

You should also share your blog post to your followers on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Pinterest, as well as to your email subscribers.

I hope by now you know how effectively Reddit can be used to generate great content ideas for your next blog post. Here's a recap:

    • Firstly, you need to find the best subreddits to join. This will allow you to interact with users in your specific niche.
    • Then you can use look for questions people in the group have asked to do with your niche, run an AMA, look at the top questions and answers in other people's AMA's, do keyword research, and ask your own questions to the group.
    • The last step is to use the information gleaned and turn it into useful blog posts (taking into account keyword research) for your readers, and a wider group of readers that are searching for information to solve their problems to do with your niche.

To get the most out of Reddit you need to use the site and become engaged with your relevant subreddit communities. This will help you stay up to date with industry trends and get ahead of your competitors, as well as generate great blog post ideas. Good luck!

    6000 GVWR Truck...Lease or Buy?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:46 PM PDT

Weirdly enough this year has turned out to be one of the best yet. My business (S-Corp) will probably end up doing about $400k net this year. I'm a commercial real estate broker.

I want to buy a 4x4 truck, specifically a Ram 1500. It qualifies for the Section 178 write off as it's 6000 GVWr. I was under the impression that if the business buys the truck, it can be written off 100% in the first year, meaning the entire amount can count against what I owe in taxes. Is this right or did I just make this up?

The other thought was to lease since I wouldn't be putting out as much cash, but I'm still going to pay the taxes regardless, so my thought process was that I should probably just buy a truck and pay the remainder of the taxes rather than just pay it all to the government. Not sure what I should do here. My partners on a different business are a CPA firm and I asked one of the principals...I didn't understand his answer so I figured I'd ask reddit 😂

As a vending machine owner and operator this coin shortage is starting to take it's toll!

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 05:50 PM PDT

Does anyone have a good bead on what is going on with the coins in the US? I know I've read articles that the mint activity was limited due to COVID. But really, where are all the coins that were in circulation anyway? If my machines don't have the change slots full, they stop accepting money. I just loaded my last roll of quarters in one of the machines today. I stopped at 5 banks and none of them had any quarters. I'm going to have to get my hands on some change or my business is going to be as stopped as it was March-June.

Customer is delaying shipment, using us inventory.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:08 AM PDT

We're a manufacturer and a large customer's order is ready to ship. This customer pays for shipping through his carrier, so we don't have the ability to schedule pick up. The customer is not particularly motivated to schedule the shipment. The product is taking up valuable inventory space.

Aside from creating a specific policy to address this on our next PO (in the form of an inventory carrying cost), is there a standard term or business practice to forbid a customer from not scheduling pick up of their product when it is ready?

[x-post r/entrepreneur] Want to supplement an existing automotive business with ecommerce, which of these two ways would be the best?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:36 PM PDT

I have a family member who owns an automotive repair shop which also sells parts, accessories, etc, in a medium-sized city in the US. They've been looking to expand into the ecommerce realm for some time, and as a web developer, I've offered to lend my experience to get them up and running. However, both them and I are a little torn on which direction to go with this when it comes to inventory. The way I see it, there's two options:

    1. Provide a fairly wide assortment of items, and offer things like in-store pickup for local customers. Start off with a few dozen products and then slowly increasing what they stock on a regular basis. The downside of this though, is that I feel like there's a lot of competition in the online arena for a varied auto parts shop.
    2. Provide a niche set of items, maybe even rebranding the online portion of their store away from the shop and aiming it only toward this category (e.g. rims, exhaust kits, lights). I feel like this could give us more bang for our buck in advertising and set us out from shops which carry a lot of variety. The downside though is that there's potentially less traffic from anyone local who would want to purchase something online.

Whichever path we choose, we already have the distribution and drop-shipping set up from a variety of suppliers, it's down now to just choosing what to stock. My biggest fear is sinking a lot of time and effort into adding products that will never get ranked decently or drive traffic to our store. Then again, with ads both locally and online, should that matter?

What do you all think? I'm open to suggestions!

Received decline for 'ineligible business' even though I'm eligible, how's this for a response?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:50 PM PDT

Hey everyone, I have received the advance, portal invite etc after applying months ago. Even got to the point where you choose how much of a loan you want. Was shocked to get a letter a few days ago saying I was declined due to ineligible business. I have a video production company and am eligible under the guidelines so I''m unsure what happened. How's this as a response? Cheers!

    Dear SBA,

I respectfully request reconsideration of my EIDL application, my business was declined due to SBA describing my business in the attached Decline Letter as 'Does not meet SBA regulations for eligible business activity.'

    • Since 2017 I have operated a sole proprietorship under the NAICS Code 512110 for 'Motion Picture and Video Production'. It is my understanding that this is an eligible business activity under the terms of the EIDL and CARES Act.

    • It seems Experian's Business Credit Report has incorrectly classified my business with a SIC Code of 7841 for 'Video Tape Rental'. My business is a Video Production Company - we create videos for small businesses, local musicians and weddings. The correct SIC Code should be 7812 for 'Motion Picture and Video Tape Production'. This information has been changed under the NAV Business Profile and is in the process of being fixed on the credit report.

    • If it helps to understand the nature of my business, you can visit our website at (website) where there are various examples of our work.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated :)

Accounting for payments under Sec 1112 of CARES Act

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 03:11 PM PDT

Note: this is not about EIDL or PPP loans.

Under Section 1112 of the CARES Act, the SBA is paying 6 months of qualified 7(a) loans. For bookkeeping purposes, my usual payments come out of my checking account and are split between interest expense and principal on the note. I set up a temporary Income account and am posting these payments there with the same split.

Is there any guidance how to account for these payments? Will they be treated as income? Does the interest expense still count as a deduction? Anything else to consider?

    Small Business Loan Questions

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 06:53 PM PDT

Hi - I'm trying to get some information on how SBA loans actually work for new business opportunities. I'm in the very early stages of planning on a business idea and I'd need to get a loan to do it and I know that with SBA loans, you can borrow up to 90% of the costs. Does the loan get broken out into two loans if I'm buying land and having to build a structure on it or is it just one big loan? Also, I have a potential investor lined up that will provide the bulk of the funds to get to that 10% downpayment but they are worried about potential risk, they have significant assets compared to me who doesn't really so would the bank/SBA make them sign a personal guarantee? That's something they don't want to do so i'm trying to figure out a way around having them do it.

It wont use insurance but out of pocket method of paying. however I'm confused on where to go from here and where to get started. my main thing is what type of license will I need for this practice? I will NOT be doing any therapy.

Also will I need liability insurance if I am not the one that is seeing the clients?
