My boyfriend lost his eye a few years ago in a shooting. he is the supervisor of a couple departments at a grocery store. his boss told him he has to wear a fake eye or else he will get fired because it "makes customers uncomfortable". my boyfriend really does not want to do that cause it makes him uncomfortable. does he legally have to wear a fake eye to work? this is in MA if that means anything

Adult Child Identity Theft by Parent.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 01:39 AM PDT

    US NC
My parents have stolen both my sister and mine's identity. I have tried to log into the three major credit companies and it showed that car loans, house equity loans and other loans on both accounts. I am not sure how to go about fixing this. I was about to go no contact with my parents due to their abusive behavior. I really don't have the resources to go to court right now. Is there any other way?

is it illegal for a parent to deprive you of medication?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:45 AM PDT

hi, i am prescribed a typical amphetamine for my severe adhd. it helps a TON, but the only issue is that it makes my appetite non existent. my mom really doesn't like that, so she hid them from me. i haven't taken them in about a month and it's taking a toll on me and my ability to function normally and i'm just now considering, is that even legal? ive been 18 for almost 4 months but i'm still dependent and live with them and they pay for my medication (whatever minuscule copay there is after insurance). also i live in texas if that's relevant.

Injured at work, told I’d have disciplinary action against me.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 01:28 AM PDT

To start I live in Nevada and work for a major retailer (not going to name names for anonymity). I've been here for 2.5 years and I am disabled (not a physical disability).

Now I was CAPing bins in bakery (basically doing inventory) in a freezer when I slipped on black ice and landed on my knee. I had a co-worker get a manager as I was hurt. When I explained the situation to the manager I was told that I could file an incident report but that if I did that I'd have a disciplinary action against me. I have issues with anxiety, depression and I have Asperger syndrome so to avoid extra stress I opted to avoid that. Fast forward to Tuesday and I decide I need to get my knee checked at the walk-in. When I explained that I was told I'd get a disciplinary action I was told that that was illegal and was an intimidation tactic.

I'm worried I'll loose my job and with everything happening right now I've got no idea what to do. I'm already going to look into an attorney but I want to know; what can I do, what can my employer actually get away with and would I stand a chance against a major retailer if it came to a suit? Any advice is appreciated.

My car was taken from tow yard before I could get my personal belongings and release it.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:51 AM PDT

I was in an accident on July 3rd and my car was towed to a local tow yard. I spoke with the at fault drivers insurance company and repeatedly told them I could not go pick up my belongings and tags due to my severe injuries. They attempted to bully me into releasing the vehicle so they could remove it from the tow yard and declare it totaled. I would not give in and told them I would pick up my stuff when I physically able but I would not release it until then. Today I spoke with them and they admitted they towed it from the local tow yard to their yard over an hour away. They are apologizing and saying the tow yard should never have released it. Is there a law or regulation they broke by removing it before I released it? Also they say they will have someone go through my belongings and mail it to me. I am not comfortable with someone mishandling or potentially stealing my belongings and feel they should tow it back.

Edit : I am located in Charleston, SC

My renters grew cannabis without my consent and vacated the home a few weeks ago (without notice). Now I am being fined $205,000 by the police. Please help.

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 11:36 PM PDT

    https://imgur.com/a/YJUnj1g

Hello, I am a homeowner of several property and to my "misfortune" of never having to pursue legal action, I have zero experience in how to handle this situation...

I rented one of my homes to a seemingly nice family of 5 (couple and 3 toddler kids) for about 6 months. For more context, I previously renovated this home in March 2019 which costed me $25,000. While I usually check up on my renters, because of coronavirus I respected these families' privacy upon request. I didn't suspect malpractice or anything out of the ordinary because they always paid on time and I hired a pest control company to spray outside and inside the house every 2 months- which they visited in May; This point infuriates me because that means I have paid this company over $1,500 dollars to not complete their work. If they would've done their job and went inside they would've notified me of the growing.. I also didn't suspect anything because while they allegedly vacated the home weeks prior to June 26th (police opened an investigation dated in letter) they still paid the June rent. Currently this family has fled and has not been found. I am going to give the police their social securities and all information I have on them.

While on vacation with my family, I came back to receive this letter from the police and am still in shock. $204,000 fine because of growing cannabis on one of my properties. This family dodged all my calls and when I went to the property it was an absolute horror. The whole house reeked of dead animals, the fences boarded up, the windows destroyed, and the inside ruined. Keep in mind that all this happened in less than 2-3 months since I visited the property sometime in early March. There were danger signs by the police posted and to keep out so I never entered the property. However, I grabbed the notice on the door done by the building inspector who mentioned destroyed Sheetrock, removed insulation, all the HVAC systems broken or altered, and the house being unsafe for living. These fines amounted to about $5,000.

All in all, it will cost me a hell of a lot more than 25,000 to remodel the home, a minimum of 5k in property fines, and this 205k fine to worry about which the city only gave me a total of SEVEN days to pay off. I didn't see this letter until this morning.

Today, I called the non-emergency police line and they redirected me everywhere bouncing line to line and ultimately being unhelpful. I drove to the city police department and it's closed due to covid. I went to the clerk office and it's closed as well. I do have connections with the city's mayor (he attends several of charity events I've hosted) so I plan on emailing him, but otherwise I'm at a total loss on what to do. I have no idea who to contact to appeal this fine. The only set plan I have for tomorrow morning July 8 is to call the building inspector whose name is on the notice I got from the door.

If there is any advice please let me know. I never had an attorney represent me before (I left a few associates of mine a message but they have ignored them) and I have no idea how to proceed- who do I call, who do I reach out to, how can I get this family to pay for these damages when they are found by the police (to my knowledge, debt collection does not attach to credit score and social unlike child support) If you could also give me a best case scenario or realistic scenario of how this plays out that would be greatly appreciated. If I were to pay the full amounts, it would ruin me and my family greatly. I don't have nearly enough to cover these costs. Although not vital to the post, I also have several receipts to document my claims.

Receipts: •Renters signed agreement to not grow on the property.

•I have transactions of remodeling fees and the pest control company showing I wasn't being negligent (indicated by fine).

•Only reason why this occurred is because of coronavirus... In my state/city we were enforced to stay home and quarantine. I simply respected these family's wishes to social distance and just wire me the rent. If not for these unprecedented circumstances, I would have checked up on these homes.

•Recorded conversations with the renters. Respectfully asking me to give them space for their kids. Me telling them to take care of the home and to be relaxed on the rent deadlines. Also, because I haven't heard from them in the previous weeks, I texted them several times when I should expect July rent with no reply showing I had no idea they vacated my property.

•requested letters of rec on my character from notable members of community to show I am not a criminal. And I did not permit the growing of cannabis on my property.

Please and thank you for your advice, if any. I am horrified how these next few weeks will play out.. 2020 has been terrible. And if there is any additional documentation I need to post, please let me know and I will upload them or message to you.

My mom has gone crazy, and she’s abusing adderall.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:01 AM PDT

I (m16) have been verbally abuse by my mother (f40) for a week now, and she's gone completely crazy. She can't remember things I said just a few seconds ago. She also struggles heavily to complete a sentence. She is probably losing her job today because she refused to go to work. I'm leaving her with my step dad tonight. He isn't my legal guardian, and idk what she will do to get me back. If she tries to get me back I'm going to my grandmas house. I'm at the end of my rope with her. Please I need to know my rights and my options for living. I live in Wisconsin for law reference.

Been Paying for neighbors A/C electric for last five years

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:27 AM PDT

(NJ) I own a 700 square foot unit and neighbor rents out a bigger 3 bedroom 1500 square foot unit. When building was remodeled and we both bought our units five years ago, lines were mixed up and I have found out the reason for my unusually high electric bill in summer months. Do I have any options for financial compensation aside from just asking the owner directly?

Colorado: does my friend have to rent her apartment to a tenant with an emotional support dog?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:28 AM PDT

My friend owns an apartment that she has rented out for the past 5 years, and now she is looking for a new tenant. She does not allow dogs, but one prospective tenant claims that her dog is an emotional support dog, which thereby disqualifies her disqualification. My questions are: is an emotional support animal the same, legally, as a more traditional service animal? And if it is, does that matter-- i.e., does it put her into a protected class?

Recourse for posting partial SSN on FB

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:33 PM PDT

I will try to explain this quickly:

    • I work in the public sector (public school teacher)
    • A man who is upset about the school's budget requested our raise information
      • Please note: I'm NOT upset at my salary info being public, but my personal info is a problem.
    • Town office sent him the info w/ our IDs (our partial SSN) included and unredacted
    • He posted this document on a public Facebook group as a Google Doc with "anyone with the link" access
    • Man has been asked to take it down and refused. He is now aware this has our info on it. Still says he has done nothing wrong.
    • It has been reported to FB and the group moderator
    • Our union has been contacted to address legal

I'm just wondering what our rights are here. I don't feel comfortable with this man having any information about me (he's a bit of a wingnut), but ESPECIALLY not my SSN. Any advice?

    Thank you 💚

Going into debt bc of a shady deal between my separated husband and tenants, what can I do? Need HELP

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 03:18 AM PDT

My husband and I are separated and live in separate places but we own a home together in FL and have it rented out to tenants. The tenants pay him the rent directly and I was cut out of having any oversight on this even though my name is on the mortgage and deed. The problem is that my estranged husband is not paying the mortgage with the money the tenants send him. I have no proof they are even sending him rent money now.

There is significant debt on the mortgage (3 months past payment) and I don't want his non payments to affect my credit or have to be responsible for mounting debt bc he's not paying the mortgage.

Can I evict the tenants? Can I sue them or my husband for mortgage payments that weren't paid to get the money to pay the mortgage current?

I tried reaching out to them more than once to communicate the issue but haven't received a response from them. There isn't an issue with COVID layoffs and them not being able to pay rent bc both my husband and the tenants are in the military.

My art is being sold on t-shirts from multiple websites.

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:42 PM PDT

I am a cosplayer in California. Last summer I finished up a creative mashup character that went viral and became really popular. Now I am seeing my creation being sold on t-shirts on random websites. They are made of actual photos of me from the neck down, with photoshop done to dress it up and make it compatible with this "all over print" style of shirt. But it is unmistakably my costume. They even title the shirts after the name I gave the character.

I don't really know what to do. I didn't copyright or trademark the design or character name. And although it is technically different enough to be it's own character, as it is a spin off derived of original Marvel IP, so I don't even know if there is anything I can do? It just feels weird to see people selling tshirts and hoodies of me in a costume that I spent literal years building. :/

It also seems like it would be really hard to contain or stop. Saturday I saw it on one website. Today when I searched it there were at least 6. They appear to be like the random kind of stores you see marketing those weird, oddly specific t-shirts on Facebook. I can only describe them as tshirt farms, where you can get almost anything printed on a shirt. I don't know if these people all just pay a flat licensing fee and get their designs from the same source of stock imagery or what?

Does anybody have any experience with anything like this?

    Workman’s Comp issue

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:43 PM PDT

So I'm posting this question on behalf of my mother who is two years away from her planned retirement date. (Also, obligatory comment about mobile) Last Thursday my mother tripped and fell at work coming back from lunch and worked through the end of her shift. By the time she came home, her foot had swollen and there was a ton of bruising on her arm and legs. On Friday she went to the company's designated clinic for workman comp claims and was told she has a broken foot but needed to follow up with a podiatrist to make sure. On Monday she went to the podiatrist and it is definitely broken and she'll need a cast for three weeks. The Friday after her injury was a national holiday so she was off. Now, since covid happened, her employer has provided equipment for certain employee to work from home of which she is one but as of late she's been having to physically go to work. So far my mother has work from home for three days even though her doctor has sent all the appropriate paperwork that clearly states she is not to work. However, fearful of losing her job and being pressured my her superiors, my mother continues to work from home. Is there any string of works or certain actions she can take to protect herself or is she really at the mercy of her superiors? EDIT: We live the South Florida.

[FL] Unable to file for the past two years due to malicious divorce

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 06:07 AM PDT

I am in a multi year divorce where due to our income difference, I was ordered to pay temporary unallocated support to my soon to be ex. I've paid this directly to my ex via checks and my ex cashed them.

While cashing my checks, my ex went to the Florida department of revenue (DOR) and falsely claimed that I owed child support but did not disclose that I was paying them directly with checks for unallocated support. The department of revenue then opened up a case against me and mailed information to my house that my ex stole and never gave to me. The mail theft details has too much identifying info so I'd rather not detail that.

I found out about the case after many months after my ex filed (and continued to cash the checks I sent) when my driver's license was suspended and also found out that there was an IRS block and many other damaging effects. I spoke with the DOR inspector general several times and they removed the driver's license suspension but they refused to fix anything else without the court handling it. My ex refused to sign anything to fix this situation and it took over one year for the court to hear and there is a motion to remove the DOR actions against me.

I need to fix my problems over the past two years with the IRS and I would also like to know how I should proceed. This was a very malicious act that I had no power to correct and hope to reach the correct person/group at the IRS about this. I've never had IRS issues for over two decades so I really could use some help and it does not seem that the family law route is sufficient to resolve this.

    Thank you

New nurse dismissed by a patient. Am I going to be okay here? Questions about malpractice

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:10 AM PDT

Brand new graduate nurse (soon to be RN). Yesterday was my first day doing things alone with a patient.

Everything was fine for the entire day until right at shift change after about 13 hours. I'd had this patient the day before (Monday) and we'd established rapport.

This person was kind of weird and had been making me uncomfortable. Examples: Harassing all of the staff about religion, asking me personal questions about my family, my wages, where I live, who I'm related to, insisting on ordering food and then trying to give it to me even though I'd told him no several times, etc. It goes on.

Anyway, all was well with medication administration, IV hookups and disconnects, flushing the IV line with saline, no problems.

At the end of the shift another IV was finished and because I was still on the clock, it was my duty to take care of it, disconnect the tubing from the patient, flush the line and dispose of the tubing and the bag.

I will be the first person to admit that I made a mistake. I left the room after unhooking everything and placing a safety cap on the IV site. I didn't know that the IV line had a "hub" that detaches. Without this "hub" patients can experience bleeding. I accidentally removed the hub rather than just the safety cap at the tip. They both just unscrew. This was my 5th day seeing patients. No excuse, but I simply didn't know.

The patient called me and said that he was bleeding. He lost maybe 10-15 mL of blood. Not a lot at all, but it scared him. I cleaned him up with the help of two other nurses and I apologized profusely and explained how I had made the mistake and why it had happened. He bled a little bit onto his sleeve, some onto the bed and a little bit onto the floor.

It's important to note that the patient was not hurt. This wasn't filed as a sentinel event, I've spoken with two of my supervisors who have said that it's fine.

Today the patient tells me that he doesn't want me to be his nurse. He said that he means no offense by it, and I told him that what's important is that he feels safe and cared for and that I completely understand. That was that, or so I thought.

He's been telling everyone that will listen about this. I walked by the room (unavoidable, it's in a main corridor and I had things to do) and heard the following exchange:

"So are we supposed to turn our cheek and look the other way? That nurse was too young" - the patient

"Well that's your right" - a supervisor of mine.

I continued walking as I didn't want to linger to eavesdrop on a private conversation.

So my problem is that I'm humiliated and scared. I know malpractice is defined only when a patient is hurt, or at least I think I do. Could he file a lawsuit? I don't have malpractice insurance yet, I haven't even taken my NCLEX.

TL;DR: I made a mistake. Patient wasn't hurt, just scared. He dismissed me as his nurse and now won't stop talking about it with my coworkers.

Apartment isn't accepting packages and is forwarding mail to other locations

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:05 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

So our apartment for the past month and a half or so has been forwarding our mail to pick up locations because they kept losing people's packages (Including ours) and were receiving such a high influx of them.

They said that they would install lockers in 3-5 weeks. It's been 5 weeks and they said they don't have an update on them. What can we do about this? Is it fair to ask for them to lower our rent since they are not filling their end of the bargain?

Here's what our contract says about packages: https://imgur.com/hTvPjk5

    Starting a whiskey club

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:56 AM PDT

Once all this covid stuff settles down I'd like to start a local whiskey tasting club. My goal is to get a group of 8-12 ppl with an interest in trying new things to all contribute to obtaining different bottles. They bottle would be shared equally among the members.

It will not be a drinking club. I'll develop bylaws and such laying out expectations.

I've looked at 501(c)(7) non profits and that seems to be the way to go. But I cannot find anything looking at my state website. Everything directs to (3) which are for charities, unless I'm looking in the wrong area.

    I'm in Connecticut for reference.

Any advice on how to form this social club? I could just do it as an honor system thing but I think it would be better with a legal foundation.

Pressing charges against a molester from 15 years ago, what can I expect?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 01:43 PM PDT

    Hi all,

The long story short of this is that I got molested by one of my mom's boyfriend 15ish years ago and I told my mother about it last week and she wants me to file a report and press charges.

I'm just asking here because I'm curious as to what happens after I go down to the police station and press charges, or file a report or whatever. Is there a chance this is gonna go anywhere or would it be a complete waste of time and resources? All I know is that this guy lives in another state, I think even Canada.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this stuff and thanks for any replies/help!

How to evict a house guest [USA CT]

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 02:08 AM PDT

My wife invited someone she met online to move in with us just before the covid lockdowns started. He has not signed anything agreeing to pay rent, but made a casual verbal agreement to pay some money monthly to help us out. He has not worked any significant length of time in the 4 months with us and has not paid us anything that I am aware of. He has used an app to send us some money occasionally to pay us back for various things and we have sent him money also, possibly more than he has paid us. He was using our cars for a paper route for about a week, but after hitting a curb and causing a tire need replaced plus damage to the rim twice (1 in each car) he is not permitted to use our cars for anything.

Monday night my wife attempted suicide and she is being formally moved to the phyc ward today. She wants a divorce when they let her out. I think he has been emotionally abusive to her leading up to this. She wants him out of the house and so do I.

I told him last night I would be putting it in writing that I want him to leave in 30 days and he asked why. I told him that since we are not friends and he doesn't contribute to the house I have no reason to want him here. I said I would give 30 days out of simple human decency so he would have time to make other arrangements. Later in the night he came to me and casually mentioned that due to covid, eviction processes have probably been altered so I might have to let him stay beyond the 30 days. I would have him out tomorrow if I can now.

    What are my options here?

A guy pull a gun on me

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:34 AM PDT

Sorry for the bad grammar English is not my first language and i am typing this on my phone.

I (17m) was on my way to the gym this morning when this 6 foot something white and muscular guy walks up to me and tells me that someone stole his car and that i fit the description of the subject(dressend in black, on foot and facial hair) (he is not a police officer) and he tells me that he is going to take a picture of me send it to his wife and if i am the guy call the police and if not he will let me go.

So i through this was a prank or something, because the guy was wearing a cap and sunglases and had his phoene out as he was recording, and kept walking but this dude starts chasing me arround with his phone up trying to take a picture of my face and then pulled by the arm, at this point i was starting to get tired of the whole situation and was ready to figth or run if needed, but then he aproached me and pulled a gun out of his shorts (small and black, i assume it was a 9mm ) and tells me to let him take the picture(he pointed at me for a little bit abd then put it down, (I wassent at gunpoint during the whole situation)well at this point i had to cooperate. He took the picture send it to someone talked on the phone for like 2 min, apologized and left. I dont know what to do, in my state it is legal to carry weapons(i live in Nebraska). I dont know if i should go to the police or let it be.

    Hospital question

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:22 PM PDT

About 2 months ago I went in to the ER for dizziness/ vertigo. I had it for about 4 days prior to going in. I also had no sense of smell or taste. They put me into a clean room and made me get the covid test done because I had the one symptom. Had some other tests done while I was there for 8 hours. When I was getting discharged they gave me paperwork for covid and said I should be called with the results in 2 days and that I should self isolate. I waited 4 days and when I called I got transferred to their covid line, but this covid line went to voicemail everytime I called it. I tried getting a hold of the doctor that saw me in the ER but never any luck. I finally got an operator 2 weeks later who suggested I go through records. I did and had to fill out forms took about 3 hours to get my records back. Now I'd been self isolating this whole time and not going to work. Finally when I got my records did it show that the ER never submitted my covid test and I had been isolating for no reason. All the while the whole reason I was getting vertigo was likely an ear inflammation issue. I got charged with a level 5 emergency visit which is the highest level emergency. Is there anything I can do here? Or do I just have to suck it up? I'm in Illinois I don't know if that makes a difference.

    Neighbor harassment and menacing

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:09 AM PDT

I am being harassed by a neighbor at my second home. She began harassing me by running her dog all over my property. This occurred for a period of several months. On one occasion her dog charged my pet, who had just had surgery, forcing my family member to fall as they went to protect our dog on our property. I asked her several times to leash and control her dog on my property. I live on a private road. She just laughed. She said her dog was friendly. Finally I submitted a letter to the town dog control, who went to speak with her about a leash. She got a leash but her harassment escalated.

She began by following me and my family as we passed by her house on a walk a week after the letter. She was at our heels screaming verbal abuse. We let her pass and she turned around. We retreated down a road and she blocked us on. I was filming her the whole time. Then she finally went away to leave and we began to walk back toward the road and she turned around again and began screaming like a holler and running at me. Again, I got this on video. Now she is making it a habit to blast her horn as she drives by me while I'm walking my dog down the road. I have this on video as well. I want to know what actions I can and should take. I am a medical student and don't want to be on police reports even though I didn't do anything wrong, but I also want her harassment and abuse to end.

I was wrongfully issued a summons for walking a dog off leash in front of my previous address. I DONT HAVE A DOG TO WALK

I moved from my previous apartment (in NYC) of ten years last July (2019). While picking up a package my cousin had sent to the old address last week my old roommate handed me a pile of mostly junk mail.

Hidden in the junk was a summons from January 2020 for walking a dog off leash in front of the park across the street from my old apartment. For one I don't have a dog and never have. There was a second letter saying they defaulted judgement to guilty bc I did not show up to the summons date (as I had no idea I had one bc I was never ticketed personally and the summons were sent to my old address).

I had changed my address with the payroll company at work, the irs, and with banks immediately upon moving but I hadn't changed my address with nyc/dmv until more recently when requesting an absentee ballot.

I am going to stress this again, I do not own a dog nor was I walking one in front of my old apartment on the date listed on the summons.

My phone number listed on the summons jumped out to me and when I checked in my phone I noticed that my old landlord and his wife's numbers are only one digit off from the bogus number.

I don't mean to get conspiratorial but they have three boys 15-20yrs that are somewhat bad kids. They also have a small dog that I never once in my years there saw on a leash. I'm fairly confident in my assumption one of the kids had the dog outside the apt without a leash, gave the cop my name knowing there was a record of me living there and then spouted off his parents number changing only the last digit. The ID number on the summons says "verbal." (I have a valid nys license number)

I've sent a request to reopen the case as it was defaulted in March. I've provided the court with my W2 in hopes of proving my residency. But with the covid shut down I don't even know if I can expect a response? At the same point I am currently out of work with no real hope of my industry coming back and I am beyond uninterested in paying a fine for something I did not do.

Do I have any recourse here? I would think it's a crime to falsely identify yourself when receiving a summons?
