Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:25 AM PDT Couple tips based on my findings:
EDIT: some of you asked for the methodology + industries, here it is
For interest-based CTAs, since it was a recurring subject Instead of asking : "when's a good time to talk to you?" which feels very invasive, and people are so protective and defensive when it comes to their time, you can soften your approach with an interest-based CTA Here are a few examples:

Doing a sales presentation over Zoom is like doing a pitch in a darkened room... Posted: 30 Jul 2020 02:41 AM PDT During the week, I did a sales presentation with 3 decision makers of a medium-sized (100 employee) enterprise over Zoom. Conveniently, they all claimed they had no webcams. So, I started my PowerPoint and it really felt like giving a presentation in a darkened room. I stopped the presentation a few times to ask some cursory questions whether X or Y would apply to them and I would hear a "yes" or "no". I also use these questions to initiate a more collaborative pitch (i.e. get THEM talking) but the dynamic of video link seems to greatly interrupt the transition from going from "talking to them" to "talking with them". I'm a fairy good reader of body language and often use non-verbal communication cues to alter the presentation on-the-fly but even that option was also cut-off to me. Sales presentations over video link suck. / End of rant. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:54 AM PDT I just wanted to make a post because I'm so dang happy! I started working in HVAC Maintenance Sales Last August. I have been struggling all year to do a whole lot of selling. This is my first sales job ever, I'm only 24, and I have to try and pull face to face meetings with CEOs and seasoned Facilities managers all week... I have had a rough first year and COVID has not helped. Finally, today I closed 3 contracts....3!!!! I've made a few small sales here and there but this is the first time I feel like I have found success in the last year and I am thrilled! Today started out rough but I think today will turn out to be a day to remember. Keep digging eventually you will strike gold :) Have a great day everyone! [link] [comments] |

Anyone have experience working for Ashley Furniture? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:36 AM PDT I have an interview coming up with Ashley Furniture. They sent me an email boasting about how their top sales person cleared $190,000/yr. The fact that they were trying to sell me on the job is making me skeptical. I did some research and have found mixed reviews on working for them. I'd be leaving a restaurant management position for it. The restaurant pays me 20/hr plus tips but my hours are limited so last year I only cleared about $25,000. I hate my current job, but I'm not trying to throw away a 20/hr job if it means Ashley isn't as lucrative as they make it out to be [link] [comments] |

Help help help a confused gal on my summary? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:40 AM PDT Please help!!!!!! Ok ok ok background: -Graduated uni -Nannied for a year -Moved to Australia for a year and a half as an Au Pair -Traveled Asia 3 months -6 months in a sales position at a hostel (selling the hostel tours and planning full country itineraries ......AND LMao being the life of the party at night to increase alcohol sales. Essentially being the center of attention hype man to make sure the 200+ people from all around the world are having a blast) so this is my summary on LinkedIn. I've (F 25) been struggling on how to write it because I want it to stand out, be professional, and show my personality. I am the "funny" one in my group, always been the class clown and won most likely to be remembered....yet on paper it's hard to portray that side (if I even should?) I was researching about summaries and a lot of articles are saying make it personable and memorable. In real life I'm definitely both of those lmao. Is this a good summary? Dumb? Any tweaking? This is pretty much a rough draft I don't wanna tweak it for 2 hours if the whole concept is stupid. I feel like the concept is unique but the content is bland. Should I scrap all that and just say, DriVen and DetermiNEd seeking a entry level B2B position~! Summary: When I was 23 I set off to move to Australia to be an Au Pair. I lived there for a year and a half then spent 3 months Solo backpacking in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. I then settled in Vietnam for 6 months in a sales postion at a hostel. Sales takes grit. It takes problem solving, patience, perseverance, enthusiasm, empathy, confidence, resiliency, adaptability, ambition, ETC. Openness and ambition? I moved to two difference countries to expand my world view. Confidence? It takes confidence to face challenges that you've never experienced alone, especially in a foreign country. Resiliency and problem solving? Getting your bank bankcard hacked in Malaysia with a total of $12 to last you a week and having to figure out how to make it work isn't the most ideal situation. Adaptability? Traveling throughout Thailand for a month with no cell service. Empathy? After living in a non English speaking country and working with people from all around the world, ive learned how to form connections with people from all different cultures. Perseverance? Spraining both my MCLS in Thailand and spending the night in the ER and then continue on traveling through intense pain. Patience? Living with 200+ from all around the world and twelve roommates in a tiny room for 6 months will surely teach you patience… I think my travels say a lot about who I am as a person. I'm not afraid of the deep end, I'm ambitious, and am not easily phased. I'm ready to continue my sales career stateside and implement all of these skills I've acquired into my professional career. ———————————— I wish I could just write: All in all IM PASSIONATE AS F*CK ABOUT SALES, IM COMPETITIVE, I DONT QUIT AND YOURE AN IDIOT IF YOU DONT HIRE ME BC YEAH SALLY SUE STRAIGHT OUT OF COLLEGE MAY HAVE A TAKEN BUSINESS CLASSES AND HAD AN INTERNSHIP AT A TECH COMPANY....BUT SHE HAS THE PERSONALITY OF A POTATO AND HASN'T ACQUIRED THE SKILLS I HAVE BEING THROUGH HELL AND BACK WHILE TRAVELING. IM HUNGRIER THAN A SICKLY LION SO PUT ME THROUGH THE TRAINING AND ILL BE THE GREATEST GIFT TO THIS COMPANY Any help at all would be appreciated. I got back stateside right before covid and have been unemployed and it's the shittiest thing even because my biggest fear is unfulfilled potential. I don't want some random ass career I'm not passionate about...I WANT A SALES LIFE AND CAREER [link] [comments] |

How to close when your solution is 2x the price... Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:17 AM PDT Just got pricing back from my internal pricing team, and our solution is 2x the price of what they are currently paying. Their main pain points were: quality from current supplier was getting worse and worse and their delivery/lead times were way too long. We can solve both those issues, but our price is literally 2x as much. Even without margin, our costing is more expensive than what he is current paying (per his words, haven't seen an invoice). Anyone have any success stories? Esp in this climate where companies are very cost conscious? This would be a huge deal, and be over 50% of my yearly quota if I won. [link] [comments] |
For what it’s worth: Follow-Up Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:12 AM PDT Hey. I did insurance sales for under a year. I figured out it was not for me and went on to become an electrician apprentice. I originally applied with the Union but was told that work is slow and it would not happen. Fast forward almost 6 months later and I am working for a non-union company who was running out of work. I reached back out to my Union Contact this week after 6 months of almost no contact. I get a call today that because I stuck it out and followed up, I start with the Union Monday. Always follow up. Thank you Sales for teaching me this. [link] [comments] |
Starting a journey as Client Assistant in a bank. Posted: 30 Jul 2020 10:41 AM PDT Hello lads and misses, I've always hated the Comercial side of a business. I'm more of a backoffice person. I've worked with logistics and finance but behind the scenes. I've accepted this job offer because I wanted to try out the experience of working in a big bank. The bank's not always have the best reputation, but it's a job offering financial services. I've done my first week of formation and I feel like I'm blowing with information and as for the anxiety part, it's starting to kick off since the formation has evaluation days and roleplaying. Does anybody work at a bank that can help me out a bit? Just some experiences or tips would be nice to know. Good or bad it's ok. I'm eager to learn and that's why I took the job, so I can master my sales communication. Thanks in advance!! I appreciate your time reading this. [link] [comments] |
Is the law governing call recording across state lines directional? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 10:27 AM PDT I just took a job in Florida, and I'm being told that we can't record any calls without notifying all parties - even if we're calling into a single-party consent state like Ga. I always thought the determining factor for being able to record a call was the state you're calling into. Is that correct, or do you have to get consent from all parties, regardless of where you're calling into, to record if you're in Florida? [link] [comments] |
Why do so many get it wrong? Rant! Posted: 30 Jul 2020 10:15 AM PDT Now, I'm not saying I'm a genius at selling, but, after putting in countless hours of study and practice in my job, I'm pretty confident in my sales abilities. Selling seems pretty straight forward to me now, "solving a customers problem" thats it. With all the countless books, videos, trainers why do so many sales people still not get it? Pushing their me me me instead of you and your problem to solve? Another gripe of mine is the use of corporate speak, connect, touch base etc it just seems so sales like and I'm sure it turns a ton of people off speaking to you?! Rant over! [link] [comments] |
Key elements of a trustworthy company. Posted: 30 Jul 2020 09:47 AM PDT To all the seasoned sales veterans, What factors or elements do you believe lend credibility to the legitimacy and trustworthiness of a company when you're trying to make a sale? These can be things like an SSL certificate, blue tick on instagram, a well-designed homepage, testimonials from other customers with established companies (for B2b), etc. Eager to hear what you guys think. How much of sales is luck/timing? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:45 AM PDT I've been in sales for a little over 4 years now, and can't help but think that a huge factor in success is just landing at the right company at the right time The top performing reps at my company started when our product first started to get recognition, and we grew exponentially and they all made bank. Now we've plateaued but still hired a ton of new reps, and now the territories are very diluted. Less than 50% are at goal and the morale is at an all time low compared to when I started 3 years ago when Sometimes a rep will close a monster deal, but it's an inbound or from an SDR. I feel like so many of those opps the prospect already had intent to buy/a big need and all the salesperson had to do was just not royally fuck up I get that sales is an art, and challenging, but how much of it really is just being lucky? Interviewing for Enterprise AE role... Posted: 29 Jul 2020 03:54 PM PDT I'm about to interview with a senior executive for an Enterprise SaaS AE role. It's my first time applying for a role at this level. I would like to hear from the more experienced AEs how they approach these interviews to get selected. For context: ACV: $1M - $4M recurring Sales Cycle: 18 months OTE: $450k Done so far: I've gone through their financials, analyst reports/calls, spoken with AEs, BDRs, and their principal investors. I've had three contacts recommend me for the position by actively calling in. I've done competitive analysis and honed my understanding of their value narrative, identified ICP and buyer profiles. I've performed a meta-analysis on every single one of their case studies to identify common pain points and use cases that their solution addresses. Finally, I've read a 400 page book on the corporate function(s) impacted by the solution. How do you guys approach these interviews? What questions should I ask to assess whether or not I will be successful? [link] [comments] |
For a Sales Engineer type role, is an MS a positive thing or doesn't matter much either way? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:13 PM PDT Some context-- I'm going to school part time for an MS from a good university for Geophysics while working full time. Because of the state of the oil & gas industry, I'm looking to pivot into more of a Sales Engineer type role. I'm a technical minded person, but unlike a lot of STEM types I've worked with, more people oriented and actually really enjoy the business side of things. I also love the idea of being more in control of my own destiny so to speak which is how I've always looked at sales. Depending on what happens with my job, I'm considering leaving the MS program as I don't see myself "needing it" and it may hinder a company wanting a company to hire me if I still have a class to go and my thesis. That being said, how much would an MS really matter? I'm basically trying to rationalize my options, but not knowing a ton about hiring for these type roles, it's tough to put myself in an employers shoes. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Tech Sales exit opportunities? What are they? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 01:08 PM PDT I'm in between wanted to go into software sales, tech consulting , or marketing with the goal of becoming a PMM. I was considering going straight to sales, and maybe switching to marketing afterwards if I decide it's not my thing. How hard is it to make the transition to marketing once in sales? I feel like the skills learned in sales would definitely come in handy regardless Also, are there any other exit opportunities after sales? A friend suggested that I should potentially go into tech consulting because there's more exit opportunities after putting in my time there. Would you say that's accurate? Or is he just naive [link] [comments] |
