How much profit per month is worth it for you to start a new business?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 09:02 AM PDT

Living in the midwest, if I was pulling $2,000 per month from a venture that was somewhat hands off and not capital intensive I feel like that would be worth my time. Thoughts?

Starting up a pet supply business. How do I setup an endorsement agreement with a veterinarian?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 08:10 PM PDT

I am planning to launch an online pet supply business. The main product I am planning to sell will be health-related (intentionally not giving too many details), and I think the product will sell much better if it has a veterinarian's endorsement. I'm planning to use the vet's endorsement in a couple ways (e.g., vet posts a personal testimony of how well the product works, advertise that the product is vet-endorsed in the product description, etc.).

What I am not familiar with is how to set up an actual agreement with the vet from a financial POV such that the vet is fairly compensated / doesn't feel like he or she is getting the short end of the stick, while at the same time I am minimizing as much risk as possible to my business. Initially I was thinking the vet could receive X% of all profits for an agreed upon period of time, but I'm not sure how to actually set that up. Do I need a business attorney for this or can I save some costs and write this myself? Also does r/smallbusiness have any recommendations on alternative agreements I could set up, and if so, what are they / why are they better / how do I do it?

TLDR: Assuming a vet endorses my pet product, what kind of agreement should I set up with the vet so that the vet is fairly compensated? How do I set up the agreement?

Product photographer charging $3.5 per photo. Too much?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 03:39 AM PDT

Hello there. First time on Reddit and posting here.

I'm in a dilemma with our product photographer. She's a freelancer and an acquaintance. We like her work so we contracted her to take photos of the products we list on our site. She was charging us $3.5 per photo which we went with initially because we knew her work ethic and quality. Now considering both of us are small businesses, I want to propose a better way of working rather than paying her per photo. I don't want to insult her work by trying negotiate her price down but I also cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars for photos.

So my questions are as follows: 1) Is $3.5 too much given I need to drop the products at her place every time we have a new batch (basically I can't outsource to another city/state/country) 2) If I want to have a win win partnership with her, what are the options I can put at the table?

Please help and be kind. I'm new to this and don't want to invest so much on photos but I don't want to be unfair either.

Using personal bank about to accept cash

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 11:09 PM PDT

I've recently started a business that sells T-shirts and other art based goods. I am looking into Mercury or Azlo as a banking option because we conduct nearly all sales online. For some sales however (family and friends) we are paid in cash. Would it be advisable to simply deposit the cash in a personal account then wire it to the business account or is it worth looking into a traditional bank account?

Dream of owning and running a Local Sports Complex

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 01:09 AM PDT

It has always been my dream to own and run a local sports complex. My idea for this sports complex will not follow a typical gym model with benches, squat racks, heavy weights but it will have a nice hardwood floor for basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, hockey, etc and maybe a separate room for few treadmills and ellipticals.

The complex when not in used for sporting events, can also be reseved for community, local or private events such as conferences, receptions, dances, etc.

I believe there can be a lot of interest and demand for this sports complex near where I live in California. The population is around 18,000 and only growing because of a handful of new houses being built in town and neighboring city. In addition, I also love playing basketball and living here for 20+ years, I have not found a decent place to play a full court pickup basketball game.

Due to more brick and mortar stores going out of business, I've been seeing many empty lots at the malls being converted to gyms which makes me feel that now is the best time to leverage these empty spaces.

With all that said, I need some help on where to start and how to make this happen. How can I get funding? Do I need to draft a business plan? Is it a good idea to contact the local small business development department? appreciate all the advice, tips and guidance!!

Tldr: I want to start, and operate a sports complex in my town. How do I get started?

Former delivery drivers, what would be a healthy wage to pay my drivers?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 12:30 AM PDT

I'm thinking about $12-$15 hr + cash tips, but I wasn't sure if this is good enough to give them a healthy lifestyle. Trying to foster some loyalty so I don't have to keep looking for delivery drivers.

How do I deal with burn out and imposter syndrome with my businesses?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 06:28 AM PDT

I'm looking for just general advice, I started a small business with my mum and for the last 8 years ago (it's been about two since I've been on the books officially as a partner) we've done well, we love it so we keep doing it but it's not easy by any means.

Recently I started my own separate business (I'm 24F). I split my time between both businesses and I'm only three weeks into trading with my new business but I'm just burnt out and exhausted. I need to build a website for my personal business but I'm struggling to find the energy to do it, not that I understand any of it.

I just feel so unorganised and I don't even know how and where to start, does anyone have any tips?

Even if it's just about how to be able to turn off at the end of the day and not be always so focused on everything work related?

Tracking items sold in a bundle/kit

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:33 PM PDT

I tried to post in r/inventorymanagement but I wasn't allowed, so I thought I'd try here...

So I run a small spa, I currently use the RioPro for inventory and as a POS System. I can (pretty) easily track quantity of items that I sell individually. For example I sell one small cream for x amount of dollars, Rio will subtract one from inventory. I sell one detox tea, it gets subtracted from inventory. Easy enough. The issue I'm running into is when I combine items into a kit (ex. a bundle of tea, pills, creams, etc.) how do I track and update inventory for each item in the kit when the kit is rang up as an item? I don't know that I can do this with Rio so I am looking at other inventory systems and thought I would check here for advice. Are there systems that track bundles/combos and know to subtract each item in said bundle? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Looking to start my own online store, not sure where to start?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 04:42 PM PDT

Not sure if this is the best place to post, if not please redirect. Im looking to startup my own website as an artist, to host my portfolio, shop etc. I would just sell somewhere like etsy or redbubble but i dont want to have to pay large comission%, and it feels a little unprofessional, im put off by the listing prices on etsy too. So i was wondering, if it is best to use one of those web builder sites like wix or big cartel, or if it would be worthwile to learn to build my own site from scratch?
What are the downfalls to web builder sites ie wix, and how hard would it be to program my own online store? What software should i use etc? Im more tempted to do it all from scratch, though not sure if thatwould be a waste of my time per say, when something like squarespace could do the same thing for me.
I already have a portfolio on instagram, but it doesnt feel like its enough. I have seperate profiles for drawing, photography, and considering starting one up for pixel art, but it would prove more convenient to have them all on one site under different pages, and more professional.
(im 17, starting collage, its not on demand asap and i can set aside time to learn things, etc, )

Is it worth all of the nickel-and-diming to advertise my HVAC service business and get jobs through Yelp?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 03:03 PM PDT

We built our business page, but it's extremely bare-bones unless we spend extra money per day/week/month to include our logo, a description, a listing of services offered, identify our service area, etc. they send us constant emails about inquiries for estimates, but we have to pay to read them beyond the highest level info, and then pay more for the privilege of being able to respond through Yelp because they don't give us more than a first name of the person inquiring. My husband and I suspect these are phony inquiries designed to entice us to purchase the additional features I mentioned, but we can't know for sure unless we pay.

It's a frustrating business model but is it worth it?

Question about “ethics” of a discount to previous customers

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 02:56 PM PDT

So I have a small handyman business essentially. I am owner/operator. I have all my past and present customer's emails on a CRM. If I send out a "flood" email to everyone on file stating I am having 10% off for the month of August is that not cool for the customers who had work done in July? Because if they would've waited even a week (some people) they would've gotten 10% off?

Or should I just make sure the email doesn't get sent to any of the customers whom have had work done in the past month and a half? Or is this unethical..? I am trying to get customers of mine whom I haven't done work for in a while schedule work so I can have jobs for the fall season. Thanks for reading. Any advice is appreciated.

    Market Analysis

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 08:30 PM PDT

Market Analysis is essential for your business. It enables business owners to own his/her market at all times.

    The following are crucial questions that you should have in mind when conducting market analysis. These include;

Who are my target/potential customers? What are my customers' buying habits? How big is my target market? Who my competition? How much are my potential customers willing to pay for my product or service? What are the SWOT analysis statistics of my competitors?

    Home Services Providers Needed

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:52 PM PDT

    Hi!

I'm the National Franchise rep for Angie's List, and we are somewhat short on a ton of category requests right now. I usually work with brands like Green Home Solutions, Pure Maintenance, Precision Overhead Doors and other large national franchises but I'm needing to fill some gaps with advertisers in a few markets outside of them. If you're looking for a tried & true way to snag some extra clients this year, please let me know - I have a few very high need markets and I'm happy to run the numbers on any Category to see how good the returns are.

Feel free to post questions if you've got em. My high need markers are currently NYC/Tri State, Bay Area CA, Boston, Chicago, Omaha, Seattle, Denver, San Antonio, and Orlando. My big category needs are Roofing, Remodel, Landscaping, Basement Waterproofing, Mold Testing & Remediation, Disinfecting, and General housecleaning services. Thank you!

    Looking for feedback

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:41 PM PDT

So I create mask coloring/painting canvases, they come blank with a mask/stencil design applied to them. I use mock-ups for the product photos, I also include a painted mock-up version to kinda give a look at what the canvas can be (once the customer buy and paint) but I'm wondering if having the colored version can cause confusion.

Also almost all design have 2 version one where the background can be painted and one where the design can be painting currently the product page has both versions and you select canvas color, size and style, I wonder if I should separate the 2 versions into the own product page.

Maskedcanvas.com is the site the product page is what I'm mostly looking for feebdback.
