    COI RANT POST

I am a commercial insurance agent in the US

One of my client's has had this certificate of insurance (i.e. ACORD 25) that I have processed and RE-REVISED eleven (11!) times. Eleven.

Just now, for the first time ever in my insurance career, this person told me I was "being nasty" on the phone---admittedly, I was a little short with her but NOT "nasty."

She e-mailed me a copy of the contract with my client and said, "the insurance requirements are on page 6, section 7." We reviewed these and then she said, "additionally, we will need the complete policy documents for all of the policies listed on this ACORD 25." I responded, "just to be clear, you need something OTHER than what is listed on the document you just provided, yes?"

She responded, "I think you're being really nasty."

I said, "I don't see how that's relevant as I'm just trying to make sure I understand what you need. I've received conflicting requests from several folks at your organization and I would like to get this wrapped up. Can you confirm that we are compliant in the other areas?"

She refused and then said, "you have a nice day;" I said, "you too!" and hung up.

    Offering appraisals for agency clients

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 04:53 AM PDT

I'm a property/casualty producer in the state of MI (side note: I hope everyone is staying afloat with PIP reform madness)

Once falls comes and business slows down, I'm thinking about taking a course to become a certified appraiser for antiques. Honestly it's more of a personal aspiration, but I believe my services could prove beneficial to insureds who are looking to schedule items.

Would I be able to provide personal property appraisals to my clients (even on a no-fee basis)? Would that be considered a conflict of interest? I'm sure I could perform that service on a stand-alone basis outside of the office, but considering that most appraisals are used for insurance purposes then the two are bound to overlap eventually.

    Thanks!

Finding home insurance with a dog bite history

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 05:57 PM PDT

My wife and I are currently living with my parents. A few months ago my dog bit the mailman. This bite needed medical attention but he was back to work in a few days. The bite did not result in a claim (yet). My dog has had no other aggressive history.

We are now buying our first house. I've been shopping for insurance and Progressive and Geico immediately denied me coverage due to the bite history.

I've read that you can do certain things like muzzling and training to get insurance companies to cover you but I've been getting automatically denied. What is my best option for getting insurance? Are there companies that will work with me? I'm afraid of this sinking my house sale and I'm getting nervous.

    Thank you.

Coverage cancelled month after ER visit and payment. Am I in the clear?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 11:22 PM PDT

I'm new to insurance, and I'd like to clarify something:

    • I received treatment while insured
    • Paid co-pay same day
    • Insurance was terminated 30 days later after company layoffs

Have I already settled that bill, or is it possible that I could be asked to pay later? It's been 5 months since and no mail/contact.

State Farm Renter's Insurance Claim Timeframe

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:12 PM PDT

Lightning struck a tree in the back yard late this afternoon and fried my LAN plus a few other items. Started the process an hour after the incident. Even had the fire department come out and use their FLIR camera to make sure there werent any hotspots in the wall or attic.

It fried my $100 modem (replaced this evening), router, NAS, and 16 port switch. Tested all my lines and they all still working well, but the rest of my home network including my security system is out of service until then.

What's the average turnaround from start of claim to cash in hand?

Car insurance before I buy the car?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:12 PM PDT

So I'm going to buy a used car. Do I need to have insurance before I go buy the car? I don't have the VIN # or anything like that. I'm in Illinois. I'm just confused honestly. I've never bought a car before. I'm going to wind up driving the car home, so do I need to buy the insurance before I buy the car?

Going to school out of state, change car insurance or just update my insurer?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 06:58 AM PDT

I live in NH but I'm going to be going to school in Ohio. My insurance quote is for NH obviously. I'm heading to school right now and I'm wondering if I should contact my insurance to let them know about my change in situation to avoid them denying any potential claim. I've looked at insurance rates in Ohio and they are almost double my NH rates. I really don't want to pay that high for insurance. Do you guys have any advice and what is the worst case scenario if I don't tell them and have to file a claim?

Do I have to call insurance after hitting a deer?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 09:13 PM PDT

First time I had any incident white driving, coming back from work at night, 20 seconds away from my house deer ran out and the last minute didn't have time to brake or move. I didn't kill it though apparently as it was able to limp away, a piece of the bottom part of my bumper was on the road, I took a picture of it and the dents to the front of my car. I'm not an expert but the damage just seems cosmetic but I dont what else to look for. Lights work, its still driveable tires look good. I put the piece of my bumper in the trunk, there is fur but no blood that I see, the window sheild fluid jug is busted though. I'm not injured at all either. I live in Georgia, and if it matters its a 2006 rav4 toyota. If its required by law that I call my insurance i'll do so tomorrow, but I dont really care about the damage if it really is just cosmetic. The insurance I have is liability, but I don't want to make deal out of this if it's not necessary.

What can I do ? After state farm decline my water damage claim

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 08:34 PM PDT

Here is a quick story. My car is a scion tc 2014 , bought it used and still paying for it. So basically i got full coverage. Around May 20-27 2020 there was a bunch of rain and the rain was consistent for a few days. Where I live there is chances of flood.

After a few days of raining and a bad night of rain, my car was parked in a spot where there is no drainage. So woke up in the morning turned on car, started driving and after a bit the car started loosing power and turned off. From here on now the car struggles to turn on , and if it does turn on the car barely has any power to move at all. Mind you the care was working perfectly fine without issues before this.

Took it to a mechanic , and was told a new engine is needed. As this one is no longer working condition.

Moving forward did a claim for flood with state farm , and to skip all boring details after the inspection. State farm denied the claim and this was the reason. " The car is old already and that is why it stopped working. Not because of water damage.".

Thinking of getting a lawyer at this point , because i dont know what else to do. Spent on phone for a long time already to no avail.

    Edit: USA/ Florida

My rental car got hit. :/

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 12:22 PM PDT

Someone recently hit my car while it was parked and I was inside a store. They drive off without leaving their information, but luckily there were 3 witness, one of them being a on-duty cop and another being an employee at the store I was in. They found the woman and her insurance is taking care of everything. I was set up with a rental car through Enterprise. Today, was driving through a parking lot in the rental (at about 5mph) and someone backed out of their spot (at about 10mph) directly into my car (I know, I have the worst luck). They didn't inch out of their spot at all, they just zoomed straight out (and it was so sudden that I couldn't react and slam on my breaks in time). I exchanged info with the guy who hit me and took pictures of everything (and I made sure to capture the fact that my car was far from the row of cars that he was parked in. I was driving close to the middle of the parking lot lane, so he had no excuse not to see me). He had an international drivers license and admitted to it being his fault and not even looking behind him before backing out. However, when I took out my phone and began recording everything, he refused to admit that it was his-fault (which I should have expected). The only witness to the accident was my friend (who was in the car with me) and there is no security camera footage of the event. I am in the process of talking to Enterprise, AAA, his insurance, and my insurance. Even though the collision was 100% his fault in reality, I highly doubt he will be held responsible for the entirety of the accident.

    I'm located in Texas.

How do you guys honestly think this will play out? I'm really afraid I will end up having to pay for the majority of the damages to the car, since it was a rental. Thanks for your help in advance... and I sincerely hope nothing like this ever happens to any of you, cause it sucks.

TL;DR: Someone hit my rental car in a parking lot and admitted it was 100% their fault (which it was), but they wouldn't admit to it on camera or to insurance. The only witness was my friend who was in the car with me, and there's no security camera footage or the collision. What will happen?

    My Dog Bit Someone

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 07:47 PM PDT

    Hello,

My dog bit someone while camping this last weekend. The dog is a foster and may have coverage under the foster agency's policy.

If they deny coverage, I have a renter's insurance policy. My policy covers up to $100,000 for bodily injury to someone from an animal in my care.

My question is, should I file a claim with my insurance company immediately or wait until I find out if the foster agency's insurance will accept this claim?

    Edit:

My location is California. This happened in the Inyo National Forest.

How to keep outstanding hail claim from messing up my house sale

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 07:45 PM PDT

[Alberta, Canada] Got a solid offer on my house but I have an outstanding hail claim on my shingles from a month ago. Unfortunately a week after my claim went in we had a MAJOR storm and there are going to be about 20,000 claims flooding the insurance companies and I cant even get mine to call me back right now.

So how do I proceed with a house sale with an outstanding claim. By the time they get around to settling the claim I likely wont even own it anymore. Buyer wants to hold back 15k til its done but the quote for replacement is only 8k. What do I do to get this off my plate?

I have no health insurance and a bunch of health issues. What do I do?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 09:58 AM PDT

So I stupidly just realized I don't have health insurance and I'm freaking out.

For the past couple of years I've had Medicaid (NJ) and it just hit me that I haven't been asked to renew my insurance in a while. I tried looking around online and after logging into a few sites I believe my insurance is no longer active. I started a full time job back in September of 2019 but I turned down the company insurance because I assumed I had my own already.

Fast forward to now, and my mental and physical health are deteriorating. I don't know what to do. I've already paid for a few medications and a counseling appointment out of pocket, but I can't keep up with all of these payments on my own. I really need to see a gyn, eye doctor, dentist, dermatologist, bariatric doctor, etc.

Am I out of luck until enrollment begins again? Also I heard I can get taxed at the end of the year for not having health insurance. Is this true?

Do I need to report a crash to insurance?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 07:31 PM PDT

It's actually unclear to me what laws are surrounding this, but can you refuse to answer questions about a previous crash?

I recently moved to a new state and I'm looking to get insurance. My quotes are up to 250$ a month when I report a previous crash. I've been wondering: can insurance companies find out if I had a crash in another state? I also had a moving violation.

Note that these quotes are given without providing any further information (ID number etc.)

Am I legally obligated to answer?

    Insurance for my car

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 07:22 PM PDT

I am looking to get insurance for my 1991 Jeep Cherokee XJ. I am being charged a bunch for my current car because I don't have the most perfect record or the best grades. I use State Farm. Is there any way I can get my insurance price down to under 50$ a month? Or am I boned?

Edit: I live in Iowa as the auto mod told me I need a location.

    School bus insurance

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 07:00 PM PDT

    Purchase location: Portland, Oregon

    Destination location: Ashland, Oregon

We are buying a school bus, original equipment/paint included, in a few days and need to have it properly insured to get it to our house (320 miles from the purchase location) where we intend to convert it into an RV over the next couple of years. We are going to drive it for about ~6 hours over the course of a single day.

What's the best way of obtaining insurance for this trip?

Car hit when unattended but don’t know where or when, does that matter?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 06:59 PM PDT

US, Louisiana, comprehensive deductible half of collision, had current insurance 6mo+. I've Just noticed some damage on the passenger side of one of our cars, to me it looks like someone backed out and hit/dented/scraped it while parked somewhere. It's low down knee height and a black car so doesn't really stand out. Also not been traveling with the whole family because of corona so haven't had a reason to look at that side of the car. So it really could have happened anytime in the last couple/few weeks.

Does any of that matter? Insurance sites online say to file a police report first, but I don't know who where or when lol.. just want to be a little prepared for when I call the insurance tomorrow, first time claiming. This would be classed as comprehensive right?

Sooo... how long is it ok to wait to pay medical bills?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 06:35 PM PDT

So I've recently had some health issues come up and because of that I've had a lot of claims. I've been good about paying what I owe as soon as I get the claim breakdown on my health insurance app. I've never let it go longer than 30days. More recently I've been waiting until I get a paper invoice in the mail before I pay.

Basically I have like 3 invoices claims I owe money for, however, one of them I'm not not sure if the doctor owe me a credit or not. I actually paid out of pocket $300 to see the specialist because they were able to run my insurance before my appointment and said it wouldn't be covered. The claim just showed up yesterday but it shows I was only billed $200 and my insurance covered $50 and I owe like $150. I'm just hoping I don't owe another $150 to a doctor I had to pay $300 just to see.

I'm also now in physical therapy and I am a little worried as to how much it is going to cost. Literally I could not get an estimate from the practice so I'm waiting to get hit with the bill because my insurance isn't paying jack until I hit my deductible which I'm still like $1200 always from.

Anyway, I'm tired of wasting my entire paycheck going towards my medical bills. I'm not planning on going delinquent or anything, but I am just curious as to how long it is normally ok to wait to pay medical bills.

31 year old who has never had a license or car. Hoping for suggestions on a cheap route for auto insurance.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 11:01 AM PDT

I've never had to shop for auto insurance so I don't really know what I'm doing. My only driving experience was for a year at age 17 or so when I had a permit and occasionally drove my parents around. I've never had my license or driven a car other than that but I have to get those now. I figured I'd see if anyone knew what would be best for me to do since I've heard new driver insurance is insane and I'm far from rich. I dunno if it matters but I managed to save $6,000 and plan on buying an old, used, reliable car like a Corolla or Volvo or something so that's what the insurance would be for.

I apologize for any information I left out that may be needed. Thank you for your time and any suggestions you could give me.

What's the likelihood of a no-fault insurance claim based solely on witness testimony? - UK

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 12:33 PM PDT

My neighbour hit my parked car overnight, seriously damaging the two drivers side doors. Unfortunately it was late at night, and there's no available CCTV evidence. Another neighbor had now come forward and started he and his wife witnessed the incident, and had identified the car involved.

I guess my question is, how likely is it that my insurance company will attempt to recover damages from the other party based solely on witness testimony, and how likely is the other party to accept those damages, which in turn affects my no claims bonus and excess?

Damaged rental car that my insurance is paying for

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 06:02 PM PDT

This is so embarrassing, but I need input. I got in a fender bender the other day and my car is currently being repaired. My insurance company is paying for those repairs in addition to the cost of my current rental car. I just walked out to my rental car in the parking lot to discover scratches all over the side. Someone scraped me. I had purchased the damage waiver to be safe, and I'm very glad I did. However, I'm worried I somehow won't be covered and my insurance company will find out about this and penalize me since they're being billed for the rental. Will the damage waiver cover me, or will this come back to haunt me?

    I'm in California.

    Ongoing claim!

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 05:36 PM PDT

Back in November of 2019, I got into an accident which resulted with no injury at all. Time passes by and the other party started to claim an injury. I was new to having a car and acquiring insurance as well. Dealing with insurance was the last thing that I ever thought about dealing with. Got rid of my car and my auto insurance, it had gotten totaled. I'm positive I always had full coverage at the time with GEICO. They cover 15 grand for injuries. Months pass by and in February this issue was still not resolved. I'm in the military, I barely started saving up not so long ago, and then I also had to move away later that month. It is about to be July and I received an email stating that this claim still has not been resolved, also a voicemail from the GEICO claims person saying that it seems like the other party is demanding 30 grand. At this point, I don't know if they can still come in terms with the other party. If I have to end up paying the rest, I wouldn't even have enough and would end up without a penny. I'm scared and I don't know what to do. It almost doesn't feel fair because I barely started living on my own not so long ago. Thoughts? Any advice?
