Been trying to get into public accounting for years, any suggestions on my resume? Posted: 03 Jul 2020 09:43 PM PDT I've been lurking here and there for a few months, but I figured it was time to put myself out there if I really want to get this done. Like someone else said, please don't be gentle. Even if it means "yea you're out of luck" since that's what I'm feeling at this point lol. But even before Covid, the amount of calls/e-mails from accounting firms were extremely limited, so I'm sure I need help with my resume somehow. FWIW on my career "aspirations" -Would prefer audit over tax; I think my experience lends to that as is and I like to travel. But definitely not against tax. I have interviewed for roles that said they would have taught both. -Ideally would prefer a mid-sized to national firm, but I understand I'm not in a position to be picky. I suspect smaller firms are more likely to teach both audit and tax though, which I think would be fantastic. On the resume itself: -Yes, I definitely want out of the temp life lol, it's cumbersome and a few of the places that bothered to reach out to me asked about being a temp for so long. FWIW my current role is temp to hire. -Since I did transfer schools, I am eligible to take the CPA (and have attempted parts) despite not having a Masters, which is one of the reasons I haven't gotten one yet. I'm starting to wonder if I need to change that. That's all I can think of for now. Any questions of course please ask. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

How are CPA firms losing money? Posted: 03 Jul 2020 11:18 AM PDT My firm claims to be losing money. WTF. Our chargeable hours are all up as clients are applying for PPP loans and need new financials to refinance loans. Meanwhile my firm got PPP funding itself and one of the partners said that in the last 2 months they've saved $50,000 by not having luncheons and networking events. Plus they are using the recession as an excuse to limit pay raises. I don't get it; like yeah collections were down in April but no shit, tax season just moved to June and July. How has 2020 treated you so far? Posted: 03 Jul 2020 10:46 PM PDT So I basically have a job I will likely not have soon enough, that apartment I was getting is being on hold, and I'm drinking more. Love a glass of gin (no ice) with some grapefruit peels and a fuckton of klonopins for the crashdown. Good year. Mid 20s, don't want relationships, will never marry or have children (good with it). I genuinely love my profession but my career is a mess. I love being a loner, or not. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jul 2020 07:33 PM PDT I saw that Moss Adams had an internship for the year 2022. Does anyone know what grade they want you to be in order to get that internship? [link] [comments]
IFRS 15 related question - recognition of revenue Posted: 04 Jul 2020 01:29 AM PDT I am not exactly sure if this is the right sub, but I have a more or less interesting practical question. Will delete if wrong sub. Scenario: software company sells accounts for its learning website connected to the software sold by it before. These accounts are useable for 3 years. It's only for pre-recorded classes, so no live sessions etc. Company recognizes the whole revenue upfront. But I think you should be deffering the revenue for the time of three years. Since the performance obligation is to make sure the client has access to the database and the database might be updated and has to be kept online. Any opinions are appreciated! If you need info just ask. Sorry for my bad English I'm not a native speaker. [link] [comments]
Preparing for business analytics Posted: 04 Jul 2020 12:55 AM PDT I'm about to begin a Msc in software design, and I want to specialise in business analytics. However, I want to have a stronger foundation in political science or economics before I start. Can anyone recommend me some resources that would help me in my professional life of being a business analytic? The description of the business analytics specialisation is here: The specialisation comprises the following courses:

Has anyone else’s firm opened back up and forced people back into the office? Posted: 03 Jul 2020 06:26 PM PDT I have several autoimmune diseases and while the studies about whether I'm high risk or not are mixed, I have been extremely cautious (which is rough as I'm an extreme extrovert). However my office of about 100 has reopened and there is some not so subtle hints about when do I plan on returning to the office. Even when we were all out of the office, the managing partner would comment how he wants everyone back in the office ASAP because he "misses us". In talking with my friends I can't find another firm in the area that's fully back. Curious how it is for everyone else. Also some offices in other cities are still closed including the office 45 mins away... [link] [comments]
