Just got my first exam score back!

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 06:39 PM PDT

As the clock ticked 7, the time had come. My score to be released determined if I'm one and done. That's false though, I'm a big four-pump-chump. I still have a FAR long road ahead. So AUD wouldn't do me dirty, would it? Did I power through? Take too long? Only my score can bring the sweet relief to come. NASBA is up. I'm all logged in. I don't think I can pay this emotional price. Then I saw it. "69? Nice."

First week of internship, already stressed

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 05:47 PM PDT

What makes me feel this way:

The amount of people smarter than me and more social, the fact that sometimes I get super confused during trainings, how awkward it is to interact with people virtually, and not receiving an organized list of tasks while being told we have tasks to do.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Write Up - How to be a Good Intern

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 05:42 PM PDT

Hey all, seeing how my last write up helped shine some light on the internship experience, I'm back to offer some more advice about how to stand out during your internship, especially with what's currently going on in the market I don't doubt that the firms are going to be selective.

    1. Ask questions if you aren't sure: it's going to be awkward given the fact that you've never even met your team but if they're showing you something and you are clueless, ask them to show you again. It might be a good idea to ask an example where they go through a sample with you.

    2. Always sound excited: as ridiculous as it sounds it's important to sound like you actually want to test 100 revenue samples. Sounding bored or detached from the work or the firm will give a bad impression and will reflect on your reviews.

    3. If you finish your work, ask for more: this is a good tactic as an intern where you want to make a good impression. It's a bad tactic when you're a full-time grunt making the same as the other audit monkeys in the room but working 2x. The pay increase is marginal, literally look at the compensation threads.

They may not even have any work for you, but if you reach out the the seniors and associates on your team and let them know you're free, it'll show an eagerness to work and will reflect positively on your reviews. As an anecdote, that was the biggest positive on my reviews as I genuinely wanted to learn as much as I possibly could. Worst case, you can ask to help clear review notes.

As a side note, I don't know how ratings work at other firms but if you get a "meeting expectations" (the average) and not anything higher, even though you feel that you deserved better, it's important to remember that sometimes people are super reluctant to give out high reviews. I'm not sure what the real reason for that is, but don't let it get you down.

That's all the advice I have, most of you will learn everything on the job. It's not rocket science to log into confirmation.com and draw red boxes on a PDF.

How does Apple get to maintain its status as an American company listed on American exchanges, while also somehow headquartering in Ireland for tax haven benefits?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:35 PM PDT

Are companies headquartered in Ireland able to be listed on the S&P and Dow Jones, or is it a case where Apple is a multinational corporation that allows it to have quote-on-quote dual residence in both the USA and Ireland, paying its corporate taxes in Ireland?

How do you confirm whether if someone is a CPA or not?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:19 PM PDT

My current boss claims that he's a CGA in the Ontario area but refuses to give me proof. I searched his name in the CPA Ontario Member Directory, however, I am unable to find his name in the directory? Are there any other ways to confirm whether he's a CGA or not? or is he just some phony who wants to boost their ego by claiming to be something that they're not.

    Any accountant moms on here?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:43 PM PDT

If you want to message me that works too. I just stress all the time about getting my designation. Found out I was pregnant two days after I completed my degree. Didn't work throughout my pregnancy due to complications. Now I'm a stay at home mom with no set time to go into the workforce. We'd like to have a second kid. I finished my degree two years ago this August.

Anyone with a similar story? How did everything work out? I guess I'm looking for assurance everything will be ok but would like to know if that's unrealistic.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

    Should I pursue Accounting?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:04 PM PDT

Hi everyone I'm new to Reddit

I'm going into my senior year of high school looking for potential career paths and found an interest in accounting. I'm looking for any pros and cons from university students and does currently working in the field, maybe some misconceptions. If there are any extra steps to better prepare me. I would also like any insight as to the day to day work of accountants.

    CFE 2020 advice

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:51 PM PDT

    Hi everyone!

    Hope y'all are staying safe

So I wrote a Day 3 case within the suggested 70 mins time and after the 70 mins all I had were 4 headings in word & 4 excel tabs (since there were 4 quants) BUT I did not get anywhere with them. I gave up with 20 minutes left and just broke down crying after.

Is this normal? Case writing is not my strength. Neither is management accounting (which was 2 of the 5 AO's on that case). I'm just super discouraged because I can't imagine myself finishing a case without struggling. I've started studying since March this year and feel like it's a waste.

I did try to attempt the case again with unlimited time and this did help a bit (I got through 2 quants, I just don't know if they're right yet). So maybe time management is a big weakness since I get too anxious and overwhelmed , it pretty much clouds my judgment.

    Any tips or advice?

Thank you in advance! I'd love to hear everyone's progress so far:)
