Posted: 27 Jun 2020 08:29 AM PDT I don't know about you, but I tire of the endless posts that are well meaninging but completely hopeless. People that are in love with the idea of working for themselves but have no concept as to what they would sell or service they would provide. I would even consider writing some sort of a noob guide. Maybe, just maybe one or two of these people can find their niche while approaching it this way, but I find that most people get into business because they already know their subject and I don't see these posts as being a very productive part of this sub. Anyone else? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jun 2020 09:31 PM PDT Hi everyone! I have recently started making soy candles for friends and family, and my friends have told some of their friends, so it's starting to grow a little bit! I was wondering how to start with shipping out of my area of just dropping them off to friends lol- do I do USPS or FedEx, or is there an easier (and cheaper) way? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2020 12:56 AM PDT I already have the idea to resell certain products of brands that are not available in my country. My plan is to buy them in bulk from the manufacturer/where I can officially purchase the cheapest then resell individually as soon as the products arrive to me. The problem is I'm clueless who and how to contact properly. Cold emailing is what I can see as option right now. But who to email when their websites don't show any? Best thing I thought I could do for now is DM their instagram the basic "I'm interested in being an authorized reseller in my country. Let's discuss further maybe through email" thing and they haven't replied and doubt they ever will. How do I make this work, I'm itching to start for the longest time now and this is what I really wanna do, but I'm stuck with this phase. Any help is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jun 2020 03:19 PM PDT I am a 24 year old recent graduate of a large southern public university. For the last year or so I have been working for a small(~12 employees) pest control company in my town part-time. The owner has his sights set on opening a new branch this Autumn in a city several hours away and apparently I am the man for the job. I am no doubt excited for this opportunity, but I am experiencing some major impostor syndrome. I have held leadership positions before, founded clubs, ran campus election campaigns etc but growing a small business sounds intimidating. The plan is for me to be a one-man-show at first and hopefully grow it to 10-15 employees over the next several years. Does anyone have advice/book recommendations that will help get me started? I really want to get on the ball with this and not be several hours away with no growth strategy to implement. [link] [comments] |

How can I convince my dad to have a website? Posted: 28 Jun 2020 02:03 AM PDT My dad owns a small business that has been running for about 14 years with no website or social media. I am worried his business will go bankrupt due to COVID-19. I am shook that he is still in business without a website. For someone who makes good money with no knowledge of English and a website, I have to say that is pretty dam impressive. I am just really worried about my dad's business. Some background is my father is a first-generation parent that came to the U.S at the age of 30. Did no marketing or lead generator. [link] [comments] |
Tax Strategies for Single Owner C Corp. Posted: 27 Jun 2020 07:15 PM PDT My sister owns a small business retail store and is going to be paying herself a salary. Its a C Corp. We did the math, and between the quarterly payroll taxes and her own tax withholding its very expensive, even at salary of $35,000. per year. Are there any (legal of course) tax strategies she can use to minimize the liabilities? Maybe an IRA funded by the business? Life insurance? Would she be better off taking a 1099? She is on Medicare so doesn't need medical insurance. [link] [comments] |
READY CAPITAL LOAN FORGIVENESS PROCESS Posted: 27 Jun 2020 11:46 PM PDT Wondering how to go about applying for PPP loan forgiveness with Ready Capital? They were great funding our loan, but now crickets when it is time to apply for forgiveness. They don't return calls or emails on how to apply, so wondering if anyone is in the same boat??? Startup Contributions When Partners Parents Contribute Posted: 27 Jun 2020 06:49 PM PDT My business partner and I are working on the corporate agreement for our new, home-based business. We sell homemade sewn goods. Her parents gave her the Cadillac of sewing machines, one worth thousands of dollars. It has been suggested I either need to contribute an equal amount in cash or the business pays her to lease the machine. I don't have the money to invest but work just as hard. I can buy a machine that will do all the exact same jobs as hers for what we are doing for much, much less but does that not count because of the cost? Any tips/ideas are welcome, want to make sure we remain equal partners and keep the peace while not breaking my bank! [link] [comments] |
Whats hot in the market right now? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 10:06 PM PDT What are people looking for? I see lots of post that there are bicycle shortages, offroad powersports stores are sold out of nearly everything, etc. I own an automotive repair/performance shop. What kinds of things can I find that will make people flock to me for huge profit margins? [link] [comments] |
How to create a win win situation for my accounts that sell online? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 09:01 PM PDT Hello and thanks for taking the time clicking my post. Ill try to keep it short. I own a clothing brand and have a few sellers that I wholesale to which sell online, specifically amazon. It just has become a pain in the ass with pricing and everyone complaining about each-other. How can I draft a MAP policy or create a win win situation online? Do you think it would be better to limit certain shirts to certain sellers? have anyone sell any style but create a MAP policy? Is it even legal to just email my accounts and say "Sign this or you cannot sell" How do you guys properly have sellers sell on amazon without having it to be a pain in the ass? Do you guys have any policies I may look at to get some ideas? Whats the best way to handle this situation. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jun 2020 08:14 PM PDT First a brief description of what a microschool is: basically a one room schoolhouse, non traditional set up. It is charter-based. Class is mixed age groups. I live in a smaller rural area. The microschool will be run in my home. I am in the marketing phase, would like some ideas and suggestions as to how I can market to get more kids enrolled? Secondly, I am a 1099 contractor. I am considering creating an LLC so that I can separate the income. If I do an LLC, would I then be able to try to get grants since it a business in the realm of education?? [link] [comments] |
Has anyone here acquired an absentee business? If so, how’d it go? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 08:06 PM PDT I've been looking to acquire a new business and seen a number of absentee businesses. If I was acquiring a business I would operate, I'd want it to be in the same field as I am currently; but how about an absentee business? Short of coming up with a down payment and paying back any loan with cash flow, what am I missing? I imagine there is some work, but is your job just mainly reduced to checking in, and addressing any major issues in the company as they arise, and then you enjoy a cash flowing asset? Some examples of the companies that have come up in my search are beverage companies, car dealerships and convenience stores. Would love to hear anyone's experiences. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jun 2020 03:38 PM PDT Okay so I've been looking everywhere for this answer and I don't know what to do anymore. I recently elected s corp status for my small business (which makes money through digital marketing and online youtube videos). I have no employees and no education above a high school diploma. Although it's hard to put a price on the industry average for my job, digital marketers in my area get paid around $60,000 per year (with a college degree). I know there's a bunch of factors for determining a reasonable salary on top of education and industry average. I have a net annual profit of around $200,000 and a CPA I met with to ask some questions recommended a salary of $40,000. I'm a bit concerned because I've seen posts that say that at least 50% of your net profit should be paid as a salary, and in this case it would only be 20% (with $160,000 taken as a distribution). Would this be a major red flag? Idk what to believe anymore. Also quick side note, if I took a $100,000 salary and $100,000 distribution, my S corp status would save less money than if I made a $100,000 profit and took a $50,000 salary and $50,000 distribution. So maybe at a certain income rate, the "50/50 or 60/40 rule" doesn't really apply? I mean, if someone is making $1,000,000 profit annually in digital marketing, would they really pay themselves a $500,000/year salary? That would be absurdly high. If you're familiar with S corps I'd appreciate some feedback, thanks! [link] [comments] |

Making a new agency hire - have some questions Posted: 27 Jun 2020 05:21 PM PDT I am one of the owner's at a digital marketing agency (small - under 10 in-house employees) and am bringing on an account manager / strategist to help take over client accounts and work with the project manager to create tasks for the production team. This account manager / strategist also wants to help out with the sales role as well - because our product is usually a quick sale, I would like to figure out a way to reimburse him in commission for his sales in a way that makes sense. I am assuming that he would like to work through the whole process from getting the lead to closing it and onboarding it with the project manager. Our sales are typically between $5000 - $1000 in fixed project costs with a reoccurring of $750 - $1500 management cost. The idea sounds good to me, because I want to remain small and nimble without overhiring, but also giving people the opportunity to make more if they want to - specifically this person wanting to take on that role. To me, it is at least worth a try. The worst that would happen is the account management starts taking a hit where we can just decide if the extra sales (if any) are worth it. [link] [comments] |
Should I register as a non-profit or other title? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 04:15 PM PDT Hi all! I hope this is the correct place to ask this question. I am planning on devoting some free time to building a local non-profit some web applications. I am not asking for any money. I'm a web developer and this is the best way I can think to volunteer for now. I want to eventually have a non-profit that helps out other non-profits and local organizations but this first attempt is "on the house" so I can get comfortable. I've met with an organization and will be giving them the green light as my choice soon. I feel like there should be some sort of contract or something! Does anyone have any advice of steps I should take before working with them to cover both of our asses and also to get 'credit' for this work as a professional? Thanks everyone! [link] [comments] |

How to find clients for creative graphic design services? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 01:38 PM PDT I'm trying to grow my online business. I'm a graphic designer and an illustrator. I have signed up to a lot of sites like Fiverr but not getting any clients at all which is understandable since this industry is already saturated as it is. Can anyone give me any advice on how to close clients? Or what other sites you can recommend? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
