How can I insure things in an RV I’m living in but don’t own?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 06:54 PM PDT

I'm moving into a trailer owned by my employer. They aren't charging me rent or for utilities, and it will stay parked in the same spot as long as I am there. There isn't a physical address specific to the RV - just the address of the facility it's parked at.

What kind of insurance should I look at? Most of my possessions aren't worth much, with the exception of a $2,000 PC I bought last month. I'm also wondering if I should look at liability insurance of some kind. Thank you for any advice!

EDIT: This is in Wyoming, though if you are familiar with any general advice about this situation please share... it seems unlikely any fellow Wyomingites will see this.

First career job cross country; need insurance advice

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 09:33 PM PDT

I recently graduated college and am going to take a job offer across country (in California). I'm 21 y.o and still under my dads health/dental/vision insurance (Living in New York). My job is offering me health/dental/vision insurance as well, but no reimbursement if I decline it. Would me being in another state effect my dads policy on me? Would my credit be positively effected for having a policy under my own name? Overall, should I stay under my dads insurance or go on my own? I believe I'm eligible to be on his until I'm 26.

I will have to get my own car & renters bundle insurance, which will be very high due to my age.

Question re : RELEASE OF PROPERTY DAMAGE CLAIM

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 05:25 PM PDT

    Florida -

I have a release from geico to sign and drop a small claims in consideration for payment.

However , the letter does not specify when will the money will be paid to me.

They are asking me to notarize and sign and fax to them and cancel the court date and the amount on the release is the correct, but there is not date of payment.

If this legit or should I ask for a time frame of payment in exchange to my release ?

    Thanks in advance.

someone hit my parked car and left their number...

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 12:47 AM PDT

tonight i was at a friends house when his older brother walks in saying someone hit my ford fusion 2020 se. The car was parked in the street next to the driveway. they dinged it above the back left tire, im worried because its a lease. i have their number and luckily got a picture of their insurance card. Will I have to pay anything or will it be their insurance handling it. Will my insurance rates go up? I also need to fix it soon cause my mom gets back in town in a few days and she will kill me if she sees what happened to it. as a 17 year old will i be able to fix it as a minor? the dent is on the main part of the body so in order to fix it will need a whole outer shell replaced...

    I have Progressive auto insurance.

Someone backed up from a parking spot and hit the front right of my car

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 07:35 AM PDT

Basically title says it all. I was hit in a parking lot by a woman who was reversing. The parking spot she reversed from was at an angle, causing her to hit me near my headlight. I was in the through lane for traffic at a drive thru (no yield sign, or stop sign on my end) saw her continue to reverse, beeped to indicate I was behind her, and she backed up into me. The damage was to my right headlight and the right corner is popping out. There is a slight scuff and chipped paint on the right side of my license plate. filed a claim against her, to then receive word she told my insurance company I rear ended her! I provided pictures but am worried they may say I am at fault. No camera were at the scene. I'm located in NY, btw. What do you guys think?

Totaled car - should I purchase now or later?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 06:58 PM PDT

Got into a car accident in which my car was deemed a total loss. Was only told verbally that my car is totaled and has been approved by my claims adjuster's supervisor. Haven't received anything in writing this far but I am scheduled to receive it on Monday. My question is, should I wait until my insurance gives me check in hand for my vehicles cost and GAP insurance pays the remaining balance or should I go ahead and purchase before that? I have found my dream car that is a very rare find and worried it will get sold before the whole total loss process is done.

I know what the smart thing to do is, but am I playing it risky by purchasing before cash is in my possession from my insurance company?

    Advice is greatly appreciated! :-)

Debris flew into my lane while driving on the highway

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 12:53 PM PDT

Hello all, I was driving on the freeway and debris from another lane (someone's tire blow out) flew into my lane. I couldn't move to the left or right to avoid it even though I tried due to cars being on each of my sides. I did brake but it moved super fast into my lane and I stall managed to hit it/run it over. Now my car has shaking, alignment and possible wheel problems. As well as it damaged my bumper and left a dent.

I want to file a claim but wanted to know if it would be covered under comprehensive and if my rate will go up. Any tips to avoid getting screwed would be appreciated. Damages will more than likely be more than deductible since it is a 2019 BMW. Also this took place in California and have mercury insurance

Help me. I'm trying to get him to bed so we can discuss this when he's sober. My brother has insured cars for the family before I know another claim would really hurt him.

Experience with State Farm contractor provider service

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 07:45 PM PDT

We recently experienced an accident and need damage restoration service including masonry, garage(door replacement) and some interior work. Has anyone used State Farm's CPS? Or insurance companies' preferred contractor? I read somewhere that contractors could prioritize relationships with insurance companies instead of at homeowners' interest. What was your experience?

1000 dollars a month for car insurance??? Please help lol. Ontario, Canada

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 07:18 PM PDT

So the title says it all, I recently bought a 2010 toyota corolla, and am trying to get quotes online for insurance, but every quote is in the range of 750-1000 dollars month. I'm 27 years old, with a G2 license, and have been an occasional driver on my friends policy for the past 3 years. I figured with three years of driving experience I should have pretty decent costs... I've only had two tickets, a speeding ticket and a "loud muffler" ticket. Even with those tickets I figure I should be 400-500 dollars max.

THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF

About 6 years ago (when I was really young and dumb) I used my friends car without a license(joyriding) to go and get coffee and I smoked some weed 😬 long story short I got caught and arrested but I was never charged with a crime. I know it's on my record because when I was pulled over recently for my speeding ticket the cop mentioned it to me and asked if I had any weed lol.

Scuff in parking lot, what will happen?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 07:07 PM PDT

So I backed into a parked car at 1-2 mph. There was a little bit of paint on my bumper but no scratches or dents. The other car had a huge dent that looked like it was from something else, but I freaked out because there were other people around and didn't want to make it seem like a hit and run. I called the police to help me locate the driver. They arrived and took my information, and located the owner. The owner stated to both the officer and me that the dent was there previously and that he couldn't see any damage. He said it was fine but the officer insisted on taking both of our information should he change his mind. He then handed out cards with a case number if the owner decided he wanted to get my insurance information in the future. I also called and left a message with my agent explaining the situation and that the owner stated that he did not intend to file a claim.

So did I mess up by being too honest here? Will my insurance rate go up even if the owner never claims anything (I don't know what he would claim unless he has a crooked friend at an auto body shop)? There was no ticket or citation. What else should I do?

    Thanks!

    Edit: state is VA

So i got a tricare claim denied cause i need a form?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 12:33 PM PDT

Apparently i need a DD 2527 filled out or i gotta pay 24k? What in the world? I had to get an emergency procedure done to get food that was lodged in my throat. They are rejecting it cause they need a third party liability form? Did the hospital or doctor report the claim as something else possibly like an auto accident? Do they want me to put the name of the food as a third party? (Obvious sarcasm) It makes no sense cause i never had this problem before.

UPDATE - Pretty bad car accident, other driver and I both have GEICO - how worried should I be?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 12:31 PM PDT

    Original Post - https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/hgkk5g/pretty_bad_car_accident_other_driver_and_i_both/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

As suggested by a couple of people here, I went to get the police report today. However, it's missing the entire supplemental report regarding the statement I gave to one of the officers on the scene before I'd been pulled from the vehicle. I called the Whittier (California) PD back, and was told the supplemental report was typed but likely has not been approved yet, and won't for a few days until the Traffic Analyst comes back from vacation.

Needless to say, I'm now extremely worried, as the report uses vague statements from the officers like "high rate of speed", and the only mention of speed was the other driver stating he was driving approximately 45 MPH (speed limit for the area is 40 MPH). Based on apparently his statement alone, the report gives me full blame for the accident. The report from another officer states there is a video from a neighbor's security cameras that was viewed during the investigation.

I have reached out to contact the officer who's supplemental report is missing. There's no mention of his statement on the scene that the other driver was "doing 50 or 55", nor is any of the information I gave him prior to being taken away in the ambulance even mentioned.

Life paid up @ 65, what happens next

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 03:16 PM PDT

I have a policy that my parents took out in 1957 that with my last payment generated a letter from Prudential saying that is now fully paid-up. The face value is $5k, and there is $37,738 in Paid-Up add'l insurance. I'm at a place where I don't really need life insurance.

    1. Will it continue earning add'l paid up insurance (annual div is $1143).
    2. Does it have a cash value?
    3. Can I cash it out?

Or alternatively, what questions should I ask my agent? Will he try use this policy value to roll me into another product?

    Car accident with e-scooter rider.

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 02:45 PM PDT

North Carolina. Just had an auto collision with someone riding a Bird Scooter (electric, rentable scooters). I was at a stop light waiting to turn right on red. There were no pedestrians in the crosswalk or any nearby waiting to cross, so when there was a break in traffic I proceeded to turn right. As soon as I pulled into the intersection to make the right turn a scooter rider, coming down the street I was turning onto and riding in the bike lane on the wrong side of the street, crashed into the front right fender of my vehicle causing several large dents and preventing the passenger door from opening properly.

He was shaken up and in pain, but ultimately declined to be taken to the hospital by EMT's that were called to the scene. The responding police officer took a report, and told both of us that he was pretty certain the scooter rider was at fault. The rider protested saying he "had a green", despite riding on the wrong side of the street against the flow of traffic. He also did not want to provide his car insurance information to the officer (he claimed to have it), and the officer said he would have to find out more information because of how unique the situation is.

I've filed a claim with my insurance (GEICO), and when I spoke to a representative to explain what had happened she seemed to imply that I could be at fault, and kept referring to the scooter rider as a "pedestrian." She said she would have to speak with the rider and get his statement before liability could be determined. I agree with the officer and think the scooter rider is at fault. Regardless, I'll likely have to pay my deductible out of pocket in order to get the repair process going, but I'm wondering how likely it is that GEICO would find this guy at fault and go after him for reimbursement. Any chance I get my deductible back?

Why would a insurance quote be 200 dollars cheaper on my 2019 truck then on my 2018 car

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 02:21 PM PDT

I have 2 vehicles 2019 Toyota tacoma TRD Sport 4X4 and 2018 Mazda CX5 Touring AWD

I bought the tacoma new and CX5 used and Tacoma cost about 35k and 250 a month and CX5 costed about 25k and 450 a month

Is there a reason why a 35k dollar vehicle would be 200 dollars cheaper to insures then a 25k vehicle both are owned by me and both quotes where through Progressive and both are registered in PA and both have identical coverage with liability collision and comprehensive are all at the state minimums and 500 deductible

Automobile Lender/Lien Holder takes an Insurance Policy in my Name

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 01:14 PM PDT

I'm in California. The Lender/Lien Holder is a Credit Union in Colorado. Some background to make me look like less of a bum. I own a business that was directed to shutdown by Executive Order of the Governor on March 16. My wife and I had ZERO income from March 16 to May 26 when she received PUA (including backpay). My PUA claim wasn't paid until June. We had some savings, but still bills started to go unpaid. Insurance policies were an early casualty. You have to prioritize. The lender was notified my auto comp/collision policy had lapsed (of course), and eventually purchased a policy to cover themselves (of course). Time passed. The vehicle was repossessed. Damn. About three weeks passed. I received a letter from the City of Long Beach. They had the vehicle in impound, and my name shown as legal owner. The vehicle was totaled while being driven by a Mexico citizen with no legal California drivers license. The vehicle was not driveable, and which of three options did I want to take? All three options included paying $58 per day for storage for the 10 days and counting that the car had been impounded. I called the City Tow Lot. They transferred me to city legal who, as soon as I told them the vehicle had been repossessed by the lender nearly a month previous, informed me that I was out of the picture with no legal burden to worry about, and wouldn't talk to me any further. Another 10 days goes by. I get a letter from the insurance adjuster (yesterday) apologizing that it will take longer than usual to settle "my" claim. He seems unaware that I have nothing to do with the policy, even though it appears it's in my name. What should I do, if anything? Am I unwillingly and unknowingly being used in some sort of fraud? Should I contact the Insurance company just to make it clear I'm not involved? The insurer is Infiniti Motors which is also the vehicle make. Should I contact the Credit Union lender/lienholder just to clear things up? I really hate talking to those bastards who repo'd my car during a pandemic at 60 days late. I probably won't be very polite.

Was rear ended yesterday, any advice is appreciated.

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 11:50 AM PDT

I live in NJ and I got into my first accident yesterday - I slowed to make a left turn onto a highway and the driver behind me, who I guess wasn't paying attention, rear ended me. We both stopped for a few seconds, and I expected her to get out of her car but she just drove away.

I drove off after her in hopes of getting her license plate number (probably wasn't a good idea), but she ended up getting away due to traffic. I was only able to identify that the other car was grey, was damaged, looked similar in shape to a Toyota Prius (I wasn't able to identify the make or model), and that the driver was a woman.

I called 911 to report the accident a several minutes later, and the operator took my license plate, name and other info. They told me that another witness had called in earlier to report the hit and run as well, and that the officer had my contact info if they needed anything from me. I never had a chance to actually speak to the officer, or let them know the details I had on the other driver. They told me to file a "late accident report" at my local PD, which I later found out to be an SR-1 form.

After I got home I told my dad and he called someone who works in car insurance, and they recommended that I do not file the SR-1 form since I did not have the other cars license plate, and because it would likely result in my insurance rates going up. I went to the body shop and received a quote for $1700 to repair the damage. My dad is planning to get the car repaired at our dealership (the car is a lease) since they offer coverage for damage (not sure how much), instead of making a claim through insurance (Progressive).

Any idea what I should do here? I'm not very knowledgeable about any of this since it's my first accident.

Should I file the SR-1? Should we make an insurance claim?

Please Advise!! Business Owner's Policy Insurance for new daycare center.

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 11:05 AM PDT

Currently, my family and I own a small licensed child daycare facility that can hold 27 children. For this facility, we transformed our house into a childcare center, so the only insurance we needed was worker's comp and home owners. Over the past year, we've been saving up money to expand our business. Finally, we found a huge facility that could probably fit around 150-200 kids and the process for getting that facility has been going super smoothly. So smoothly in fact, that we are ready to sign the lease. The only stipulation is that within a week of signing a lease, we have to provide them with a certificate saying that we have liability insurance for up to $2 million and "all risk and property" insurance. This has been tricky as many BOP insurances don't cover daycares and the ones that do ask for the daycare's license, number of kids, number of staff, etc. Obviously, this new daycare isn't open yet so we don't really have those things. Furthermore, it seems that every time we call an agent, we are directed to another one in a continuous cycle. Please advice us on what we can do from here! We want to sign the lease by July 1st and have insurance within a week of that. Any advice??
