Not so great repair on my car. Wondering what options I have. (AZ&HI)

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 07:27 PM PDT

I was t-boned in an accident that wasn't my fault. The other party ran a stop sign. Anyways, I got the car repaired through their insurance, Geico. However, the accident occurred 2 months before I was to move to Hawaii from Arizona. We got the car literally 2 days before it was to be shipped out. We noticed that the front bumper looked a bit weird. Well, a few months went by and the front bumper looks like it is about to come off. I'm scared to call my insurance or the other parties so I was wondering what options I have or if the only option is to call them and if there will be any issues since I'm in another state where the accident and repair did not occur. Thank you! i

Total loss-- car isn't worth enough to buy another car.

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 11:23 PM PDT

    USA/Kentucky

Sorry I don't know much but I'm really gutted by this and don't know what to do.

I live month to month with no savings and my car is worth MILLIONS to me. Unfortunately it's old and last time I checked its trade in value is only $300.

I recently got in a crash and the damage (front right side in front of passenger door) didn't look bad, but was estimated to be $9000 by the place it got towed to. We're trying to take it somewhere else but if it ends up being a total loss, I'm terrified that the offer insurance will give me will be too low to buy ANY other car with at all. Let alone one that's in good shape and affordable enough for me long term (as in not needing tons of major repairs every month. It was in great shape, just very old.)

I'm not ready to go back to life without a car, it was depressing, unsafe, and actually more expensive where I live. I'm just not sure what to do in this situation. I have all the receipts from work that was done on it and I'm planning on providing that for them when they send someone to assess it, but I'm not sure how big of a difference that can make.

    Thank you

    Question about SR-22

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 06:29 PM PDT

I was involved in a wreck in 2015 and I didn't have insurance at the time. Yes, I know it was stupid to drive without insurance but I was young and ended up paying out of pocket for the damage. My question is, does SR-22 last for a specific amount of time or does it vary? I contacted my lawyer to see if she had the documentation from the judge and she gave me a number to call. I called the number but it was completely automated and they didn't have a selection for my specific issue. Is there any other avenue I can take to see if I still have to have it on my insurance?

    I am located in Missouri.

    Thank you.

    What do these costs mean?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 06:18 PM PDT

    EDIT: This is in California.

So my in-network therapy costs are as following:

    "Deductible Family/Individual $450/$150

    Out of Pocket Family/Individual $4K/2K

    Copay/visit $10"

EDIT: I found this on my insurance policy: Here's what it says:

"In-network deductible is waived You Pay $ 10 per visit until the out-of-pocket maximum is met"

So I'm pretty sure that means I just owe a co-pay, am I right?

If I haven't met the individual or family deductible does that mean we'll have to pay for each therapy session in full until that is met?

    International insurance question

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 05:11 PM PDT

I recently moved from Canada to USA and trying to figure out how auto insurance works here since it was simple and government run in my province.

If I had an accident in the last 5 years in Canada on my Canadian license, do I need to claim that in America when insuring* a new car?

Allstate Umbrella - Switching Insurance Companies

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 03:18 PM PDT

Allstate is my current auto insurance company. I have a renter and an Umbrella policy with them. I have received lower quotes from Progressive, Geico, Mercury, and Travelers for the same auto coverage.

Can I get auto insurance from another company and still keep my Umbrella insurance with Allstate? Or do I need to cancel it? My Umbrella is paid off for the whole year.

I'm in California – Los Angeles Area.

Should I stick with insurance even though I'm already starting to dislike it?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 05:00 PM PDT

I was going to get my insurance license since i'm a recent grad and i've got two opportunities to work with people. But i'm taking this examFX simulator and it's boring, dull and I hate doing it. I like being able to study which ever topic I want but then having to finish quizzes JUST to move on to another topic seems like it takes so much time.

Should I stick with it or is it not for me? I have 52 hours and want to finish it fast so I feel more motivated to rush through things.

Insured wrong car for a year and a half (xpost r/legaladvice)

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 01:24 AM PDT

I have insured the wrong car for the last year and a half. I used my partner's VIN/model/make and didn't notice. We are not married, and have different car insurances. My policy ends in a few days. Should I update my car insurance to reflect the correct car, or should I just start a new policy with the correct car information? Will I get into any trouble since I have been insuring the wrong car?

    I'm in Washington State.

Stranger's car associated with my address

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 01:22 AM PDT

Hello, I'm shopping for auto insurance for the first time, and I noticed on the "we found these vehicles at your address", 4 of the 7 cars suggested do not belong to my family. We have owned this property for over 10 years. Is this a red flag, or can I ignore it? if it is something to worry about, who do I contact? I live in CA

I borrowed a car and hit another car, will MY car insurance cover the damages to the other two cars?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 04:02 PM PDT

I have Geico car insurance. I borrowed my in-laws truck to move some furniture, I was merging and didn't see another car. I hit them with my driver side mirror and it came off. Their windshield cracked (it was a low car) and their passenger mirror came off as well. Besides that, my in-laws truck is fine. I'm wondering If my insurance would cover the damages to the car. The other driver suggested we don't involve the insurance companies, and I'm stressing out. Any advice would be great.

Questions about enrolling in medical/dental insurance.

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 08:18 PM PDT

So I have a very severe open bite that requires orthognathic surgery to correct. So severe that I can stick my fully grown fingers into the gap of my teeth and down my throat. I want to get this corrected.

I don't have any insurance at the moment, and I cannot afford to pay for major jaw surgery out of pocket. I want to get covered by an insurance agency but I have absolutely no idea where to begin. Does this count as dental insurance or medical insurance? How much should I be paying? How do I go about enrolling? Will I be locked into a contract kinda like car insurance? Any help is appreciated.

    Basic Info:

    - Michigan, USA

    - 23 Year Old Male

    - Make too much for Medicaid

    - I'm independent with no dependencies (Not sure if this matters)

    - My job doesn't offer insurance

My friend hit me with his car by accident

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 05:59 PM PDT

Couple days ago my friend hit my with his car by accident, I went to the ER, they ran a MRI scan and an X-ray. My nose is broken and I limp when I walk and theres a bunch of cuts and bruises all around my body. Thankfully nothing super serious.

Now the problem is that my parents have always hated the dude and now they have an even bigger reason to hate him. My parents have filed a claim against his insurance because they are worried about the medical bills. Now my friend is mad because my parents and I are "trying to make money off the situation" and that is going to affect him "very badly". He was telling me how his insurance is already going to cover everything so there's no point of filing a claim. I told my parents that and they said that they don't know that for sure and they don't know how to deal with this situation which is why they filed a claim so someone can just deal with all of this.

Can you guys please explain if I am fucking my friend over and if so what should happen and is his insurance for sure going to pay for the medical bills.

    I live in California btw

Backed into a friend’s car. Should I open a claim on this or pay out if pocket? Already have a similar claim on my record from about a year ago that did not raise my premium, I’m just worried that this time around I will not be so lucky.

    Very high homeowners insurance premium?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 03:08 PM PDT

First time home buyer here trying to gauge what is reasonable for an annual premium for homeowners insurance. I've been shopping around and am consistently being quoted ~$4000 per year for policies with replacement costs between $650-750k.

The premiums seem to be not so dependent on deductible. For example, Progressive's quote has a $1000 deductible and State Farm has $7500.

Personal liability is the same on all policies ($300k), medical is the same ($100k). Personal property varies a lot because some insurance providers require a minimum of 75% of the real property replacement cost (which is much, much higher than I need), but some others allow me to choose the coverage I want.

If it matters, I have excellent credit and I'm in Colorado. Not sure what else might be causing such high premiums here. I keep seeing averages even in high CoL states at being between $1k and $2k.

whats a good auto insurance for low mileage driving in california?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 07:30 PM PDT

currently I have Farmers and my auto insurance is maybe 10% cheaper than what it normally is given the number of miles I estimated and provided to Farmers

this is pretty sad considering I'm estimating a 70% reduction in miles from 15000 annual to just 4500 now

also not too impressed that Farmers only offered a 25% discount for this April, 15% discount for May and none after that when most everyone was working from home...my mileage reduction was more like 70%...theoretically if we drive 70% less miles, there should be roughly 70% less accidents right?

I'm working from home until 2021 and wonder if there are cheaper options ...do you know of any?

    apartment building liability claim

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 06:19 AM PDT

I have a situation now, trying to decide how to proceed.

I own a co-op apartment in NYC, I accidentally left a tap on in the bathroom sink and it flooded our bathroom, which then leaked downstairs and damaged the downstairs neighbor's apartment (oops). Looks like they've filed a claim with their insurance company, and now they want to get in touch with my insurance company.

To the extent that I am liable, that's all fine, but I think there may be a degree of co-op building liability here, because it was an original building bathroom, the sink drain (which the co-op is supposed to maintain) was half blocked, and the sink had one of those holes at the back which is supposed to prevent this, possibly also blocked / ineffective... not the mention the question of whether the bathroom floor waterproofing was adequate, in good repair, etc.

The building board and management have been spectacularly unhelpful and negligent for many years, so I'm not inclined to do any more than the minimum to help them out here.

My concern is that if I put them in touch with my insurance company, they'll just roll over and pay out the claim as the easiest thing to do, and then I end up with a claim history / increased rates.

Is the anything much I can do to defend this, or split the liability with the building itself if at all possible? Can I trust my insurance company to pursue those options, or are there things I can do to assist?

Medical provider said I owe nothing but insurance plan says I would?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 11:36 AM PDT

Deductible is like $1,500, of which I've paid $0. There are a handful of claims that show up on my insurance website, "amount charged:" $500, amount covered: $500, you pay: $0."

The problem is, my insurance plan seems to say: "You pay 100% until you reach the deductible, then you pay 10%." Why am I not being charged? (not that I have a problem with that.) Will I owe $1,500 at the end of the year?

    Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: Missouri but insurance is from another state

If I report it to my product liability insurance, and they find the person is lying, will my insurance rates go up?

Geico vs. Progressive vs. Travelers vs. Mercury

I have received lower quotes from Progressive, Geico, Mercury, and Travelers for the same coverage. I am looking to get some feedback/first-hand experiences about these companies from you to help me decide if I should switch. I would also like to include Gap Insurance, and so far, Progressive and Travelers have Gap coverage.

Car rearends me as were backing out of parking spot. Need advice to file claim or not

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 02:31 PM PDT

Ok, I have a 2017 subaru wrx sti (the subaru with the big wing, this is important later)

I was backjng up to readjust my parking and have a rear view camera I don't see anybody, now my car will beep if I'm in reverse if anything is getting close to my car (backing in, cars driving by while I'm reversing out, etc)

I hear a bang and am wondering what just happened I see a carry backed out of the parking spot behind me and hit me. I heard a solid crunch and thats it calm husband asked me to move forward to access the damage (I should of took a picture before, but was in a hurry to see) lady gets out screaming you hit our car completely on the offensive. She says "how do you even see with that big wing and why u backing up so far"

First off I point to my review camera and you can even see fine without it. Then I remember I heard no beeps and my car was in first not reverse.

She gets angry when I ask for insurance , guy says it 50%50 fault and we should to our separate ways. My phone is djejng at this point. We finally exchange insurance she is still yelling about how everyone is talking about how i can't eee out my back window because of my big wing.

She grabs my insursne cards makes a ugly face and says to her husband "honey he have progressive" and starts laughing like something is funny. I finally say I'm going to call cops, I should of from 5hr start

Very little damage, but I worked hard for my expensive car and I want it fixed. Jnsursnce they gave me js 4 years expired

Fixing it myself would cost less then my deductible. Don't want a wreck to show on my car

I plan to call and ask if there policy is still active What are my options

    • leave hold back on the mistakes I made handling the accident and not getting some important info*
