Stock market has the richest valuation in 18 years even as profit outlook worsens Posted: 13 May 2020 06:27 AM PDT Companies have cut some 30 million workers, but that may not be enough to help profit margins. The obstacles include lower profits, falling demand and uncertainty around the coronavirus. Stocks have rallied about 30% off their March lows even amid terrible economic data and gloomy earnings prospects. For the first quarter, earnings are on track to fall 13.6%, according to FactSet. Forecasts for the rest of the year see a 40.6% drop in Q2, a 23% decline in Q3 and 11.4% in Q4 [link] [comments]
Is buying into the VTIQ hype right now at 29$ before the merger a good idea? Posted: 13 May 2020 02:02 PM PDT Any input on above. I've read a lot about nikola and although a promising company concepts are much different then real production. What do you guys think about buying into VTIQ now with the price of 29? Research: S&P Value to Gold still low at a mere 1.68x Posted: 13 May 2020 09:09 AM PDT I am trying to take the arbitrary value of USD out of the stock market and truly understand if the market is up or down excluding impact of inflation and Forex. Yes, you can argue the Feds can manipulate the value of USD by playing with interest rates and pump and dump the market at will. BUT, they can't control the price of gold against worldwide currencies. So I figured the value of S&P in terms of ounces of gold may be a great way to judge where the market is at right now and give me an insight otherwise not possible to see. So after Google'ing the concept, I found out that this is actually a way to measure market performance and very commonly used. I was not the one who came up with the idea first, haha. So anyway, currently we are sitting at 1.68x ratio (1.68 ounces of gold equals S&P500 value)/

Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 13 May 2020 09:18 AM PDT This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report. Largest Insider Buying (Last 7 Days)Largest Insider Selling (Last 7 Days)Count column is number of transactions. Posted: 13 May 2020 05:44 AM PDT Good morning, Here's My Watch List Gap Ups: ALC, CYCC, LPSN, LVGO, PGNY, SLGG, TSEM, UNFI, VTIQ, XP Gap Downs: CYBR, INFN, LORL, PODD, VREX Pre market is pretty flat with SPY sitting inside of yesterdays range after a hard sell off yesterday, slowly grinding higher with resistance overhead in the form of the 200 day moving average at 300 area. Support underneath at the 270 level, honestly looks like it could roll over and maybe test that level soon but I could be wrong. Whenever the market is near resistance I tend to be more patient in my trading and always concentrate on the best setups. Always have your targets and stops calculated before placing trades in order to manage risk and eliminate large losses. No need to give up weeks worth of profits in a matter of days. Since the list is lackluster today, It is a good idea to wait for the market to find direction instead of jumping right in at the open and getting chopped up. Good luck trading today [link] [comments]
Why did I get liquidated(Margin Called)?[IBKR] Posted: 13 May 2020 01:48 PM PDT I had 40 shares of AIRBUS and SPY 300 PUT liquidated today during the downtrend and I got absolutely fucked because they liquidated my put at the worst possible time(16:30 eastern). and I can't understand why. Yesterday I had more than enough Excess Liquidity and SMA. They said I had -53 USD excess equity which is why I got margin called. I'm attaching a picture of my yesterdays (12th May, I got liquidated 13th) Margin report. I didn't buy anything today. If anyone can help me solve this mystery I'd be really thankful. I'm also attaching my positions Margin Report: https://imgur.com/a/ZvisOop Positions: https://imgur.com/a/44Mx8CU EDIT: Resolved. Apparently because I had some stock on margin when my equity with loan value fell below 2000 today with the decrease in the shares my account stopped being legible for Margin( they require over 2k). Even tho I still had lots of cushion and SMA. So what they did was liquidate my 3k worth of spy puts to add cash into my account to increase my equity so im still legible for margin. Fucking ridiculous lol. Live and learn. [link] [comments]

Investing in Boeing long term. Thoughts? Posted: 13 May 2020 07:46 PM PDT I snagged Boeing about 2 months ago below $100 and it went back up shortly after. I plan on staying with it long term. Since then, I've been hearing a lot of back and forth if Boeing will even survive, how long will the government keep bailing them out, bankruptcy, airline (and boeing) industry will go out of business and all sorts of things. What are your thoughts about Boeing long term? [link] [comments]
How do stock market tax write offs work? Posted: 13 May 2020 06:58 PM PDT How much can they save you? Say I am down $3,000 on a position and I cash out, anyone have a rough estimate on how it would affect my tax return when I normally receive $1,500 in federal return while claiming 2 allowances as a single working man? Noob question: How do stocks help the business Posted: 13 May 2020 06:54 PM PDT I know this is probably the most basic question, but I can't seem to find the answer. How exactly do the stock prices help the business of said stock? Say I buy 1,000 shares of a stock for .10 a piece and sell them for .15 after a couple days. I get all of the profit. How does that help the company? Does it help them directly, or is it more of a perception thing because stock prices are higher? Like.. theoretically, is it possible for a failing company to have high stocks if people for some reason (like I said, theoretically) kept trading at a high volume? Sorry if this question is insignificant to this subreddit, but idk where to ask. [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 May 2020 06:17 PM PDT May expiration is in two trading days. I have found because of the sudden turmoil that a lot of long shot OTM put options are carrying decent premium despite insane theta. One such is the 16/18 bull put spread on DAL. You dont have to like DAL as a long term stock, but given the bounce it took up on 19.10 today and the slides its already priced in, it is unlikely for DAL to pass through 18 in my opinion. Premium pays 7% on this spread, ie 200 to make 214. I like this play. What are some other elevated well OTM options you have seen the last few days for a quick hitter before expiration? Posted: 13 May 2020 03:59 PM PDT Anywhere I can find stock market price history details from the last few years , including time of day? Starlink - what industries will it change? Posted: 13 May 2020 03:49 PM PDT Whenever a new technology pops up the core company behind it does well (eg. Ford, Microsoft, Apple) but so do a lot of peripheral companies and new entrants. A good thought experiment is: what product or service is currently unviable, but becomes workable with the new technology. For example: - Video on demand was crap until faster internet - Out of town real estate was valueless until the motor car - outsourcing jobs overseas needed cheaper and better telephone connections. Yey. The obvious next leap is 5G, but I struggle to see what ideas this will make viable. Can you think of anything that would be awesome, but fails because we need faster internet? Another one, and more interesting, is Starlink. Having massively better internet in remote locations should be a giant leap. But what industries will this change? We can't invest in SpaceX, but it's early enough to get in on some peripheral idea that suddenly becomes viable and makes a good return out of nowhere. Any ideas appreciated. Should I trade off or hold my MRNA stocks Posted: 13 May 2020 11:46 AM PDT I'm a new young investor and only started investing small amounts after the market crashed from covid. I did my research and found out about the potential of Moderna and how it may be our ticket out of quarantine. I bought 2 shares at 25$ a piece, and over the past couple months have gone up to about 65$ a share. I don't know if it would be smarter to wait until there is a breakthrough, or to trade off now while MRNA is still relevant. Allogene (ALLO) up >40% on positive safety and efficacy data! Posted: 13 May 2020 03:25 PM PDT Two days ago we posted a write-up on the good likelihood that Allogene (ALLO) would demonstrate positive safety and efficacy data from their P1 trial in their ASCO abstract. Today, positive results led to a >40% return after-hours. We made adjustments to our position on this news. Here's a quick download of what was found in the paper: TL;DR: The relatively clean safety sheet overall coupled with our expectation that the higher dose groups will be enriched for the complete responders once we get a deeper look on 5/29 has us confident that Allogene is triangulating on a relatively safe, highly efficacious dose to take forward into further development. --- The ASCO abstracts including Allogene's ALPHA trial abstract have been released. All in all the abstract supports our thesis for Allogene that we walked through in our recent write up, though we will need to wait for the 5/29 presentation for a more detailed look at the data. Key takeaways from the abstract include: 1) No dose-limiting toxicities or GvHD observed: this is great news 2) Only 2 (22.2%) of patients developed Grade 1 - 2 CRS, which resolved within 72 hours 3) 78% ORR, including 3 complete responses. Given this was a dose-ranging study, what we will be looking for in the 5/29 readout is how the higher dose groups in particular responded, since these will likely be the doses taken into the pivotal trial. Watchlist: 5/13 Dr Fauci, Los Angeles, and A Bearish Engulfing Posted: 13 May 2020 04:35 AM PDT Market Notes: Yesterday Dr Fauci was grilled in a remote Senate hearing. He warned that opening too early could cause a bad worse outbreak. Lawmakers are grappling with economic recovery and reopening. Los Angeles announced it will extend its stay-at-home order for 3 more months. Markets had another late-day sell-off. The daily candles for most major indexes are showing a clear Bearish Engulfing pattern near resistance on the daily candles. I'm bearish today, though futures are higher. I'm willing to have my mind changed. Watchlist: SLGG is a low float, watching for a setup above $5 PFSW is a low float, watching for a setup above $6 SPCB is a low float, resistance is at $1.50 BWEN is a low float, had a positive article come out yesterday, watching for a setup above $2.17 GMDA is a low float, moving on news, on watch CELH is on watch CBAY was on the move yesterday with news. Significant Activist Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 13 May 2020 09:19 AM PDT These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds). There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions. New FilingsThis table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold.
Amended FilingsThis table lists amended filings in the last week, and is useful for monitoring changes in existing investments or when a fund closes a position. I have eliminated all filings with less than a 5% change in ownership. Posted: 13 May 2020 10:16 AM PDT Question for those who know business laws/market regulations: If a CEO or Co-Owner of a company publicly claims that their stock is not worth its current price and soon after the stock price drops, is this not a form of insider trading? Seems like a grey area to me and would love some insight, thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
