    Posted: 02 May 2020 06:06 AM PDT

Welcome to this week's Peer Support and Self Management Thread.

This is a Safe Place to Vent, Seek Emotional Support, Share Self Management Techniques and Experiences, or Just Rant.

The goal for this thread is to help one another manage mental and physical health so we can more easily find success.

We all struggle sometimes and it is important to recognize that the struggle is part of the journey. The important thing is to learn how to overcome that adversity to grow and succeed.

Be tactful and classy in how you vent your feelings and share your frustrations. Act in a mature manner.

Ask questions, share experiences, and be there for one another. Practice empathy in giving advice and remember that what worked for you isn't guaranteed to work for others. Make suggestions, not demands of others.

#Because this is meant to be a safe place to support emotional and physical health there is a zero tolerance policy in effect. Be KIND. Be sure to report any conduct that is in violation of that key tenet.

You can also find more support using instant chat on the /r/startups discord.

There're a few nuclear startups that I'm thinking about joining after college, but I'm not sure if I should go in directly or go through NROTC and spend 5 years in the Navy to get leadership experience first.

    Posted: 02 May 2020 01:08 PM PDT

At the moment, I'm a 17 year old interested in working in the molten salt reactor (MSR) industry. Specifically, I'm interested in reactor design and busines management. As most companies are new start ups (max 5 years old), I'm not sure how much they'll progress by the time I'm out of college. Granted, I also have set myself on a particular start up of the several that exist for MSR.

I've heard that going through NROTC and serving 5 years in the Navy can be a good way to pay off student loans and gain experience in nuclear, learn leadership skills for industry, and just distinguish yourself from other applicants in management positions. However, this will mean that I'll have to wait 5 years after college before I can join the nuclear start up.

Thus, I was wondering if I should serve the 5 years to get leadership experience and build up my resume or just jump into an MSR start up after college.

Edit: I'm planning to get my B.S. in nuclear first and then either go into the Submarine Corp, do a PhD program,or just jump into the start up. The question is, which one of these should I do?

Can I use severance pay to start a company? (US)

    Posted: 02 May 2020 06:16 PM PDT

Basically, just as the title reads... I lost my job last week. I'll be getting a decently sized severance package of >$25k. I have an idea that I've been kicking around for a few months now and I think this is the time to turn that idea into more than just that.

Anyway, what are the legalities I'd using money from another job/company to fund my own company?

Getting a bond with customers is all there is?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 01:20 AM PDT

The general goal of any business is customer satisfaction. You want the business to tailor and serve the customer. The customer is literally bonding to the product. And fall in love or get loyalty. It's basically the innate human instinct to bond with friends, family, partner. The customers are to bond, love, and be satisfied with the company.

End goal is to tailor a company and keep building it and getting feedback to build the right offer for them. The customer is always right? Listen and try to satisfy their desires. That is the path to scour to find traction in the market and then begins the ability to scale the business?

Sunday’s Success Stories - Celebrate Your Successes From the Past Week: Anything goes, none too small!

    Posted: 02 May 2020 06:06 AM PDT

Welcome to this week's Sunday's Success Stories Thread.

A lot of us get way too hung up on the destination and the fact that we are not there yet.

It is important to take a moment to reflect on a great quote from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., "The steps you take don't need to be big, they just need to take you in the right direction"- Jemma Simmons

This is extremely relevant to all of us in this community. We should all be more aware of the successes we achieve every day that carry us closer to our goals.

Celebrating these successes, no matter how small they are, allow us to stay motivated, focused, and happy while we struggle to achieve dreams of various sizes.

The purpose of this thread is to share our successes from the week with one another and have something to celebrate together.

So, let us know what successes you have achieved this week! Nothing is too small or insignificant!

How do you best manage your product development/roadmap?

    Posted: 02 May 2020 05:28 PM PDT

    Hi All

    Hope you are well.

As per the title, I'd be interested to know how people manage their product development and remain cognisant of their product roadmap and what works best for you perhaps based on the product or service you are building.

Is there a particular method or tool you like to use?

Where do you think is the best US city to start a business? An food delivery app based business not actual store.

    Posted: 02 May 2020 03:43 PM PDT

Will starting a business in SF really give me a head start cause of all the resources and VC's available? Or can I still get the same account of resources in other cheaper cities such as Denver & Austin?

What cities do you think is a good option to start a company in? The company will be targeting different states but I'm looking for a good affordable city to have the main office in.

Disclaimer: I know now is not the ideal time to start a business just planning things out so I can be ready when all is normalized again.

What is way to design the growth plan?

    Posted: 02 May 2020 05:08 PM PDT

is the macro view to over time 'pencil in' what type of products, which target market to go after, how large the brand and marketing has to be, in order to make the company $500k revenue, $5 million, $20 million+. Using specific frameworks and plotting it out.

The general idea plot out what are the product road map, what is the marketing, brand, product plan? So it's trying to build and sculpt the business in order to sell better products to bigger customer bases and to be a bigger more known brand?

Importance of custom domain for testing a product

    Posted: 02 May 2020 10:41 AM PDT

    Hi Friends,

I have a few product ideas I would like to test. How important do you think getting a custom domain is? Can I just use a page on my main website? How important do you think this is? Is there a way to buy a domain for 2 months or so? Or a cheap way to get a custom domain? I would like to test out several ideas, if I can avoid buying several domains, that would be ideal.

    What do you think?
