I haven't done any work this week.

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 08:06 PM PDT

I don't know whats happened. I just don't care anymore. The best part of this job was that you at least got to socialize with your co-workers in misery, but now that thats gone this job is just too mundane and soul crushing.

I don't understand how managers/partners think we should go above and beyond in our work when they just laid off staff and hound us about our office time. Bet no partners are going to take pay cuts during this.

I've been throwing time into a bunch of different files I'm scheduled on, and just spend my days responding to the 2-3 emails I get from mangers/clients. I suppose this'll catch up to me but it'd honestly be a dream to get laid off.

OMG I just got a job!!

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 08:22 PM PDT

Don't got many ppl to share it with. But I'm excited if this turns out to be legit.

I applied via linkedin and followed a series of steps after that.

The only thing that keeps me hesitant from signing this job offer is the pay vs job duties and its a remote work offer. I'm scared it may be a scam.

I check out the website of the company and it looks legit. The email looks legit and in fact it has the same company email in common between the initial stages and job offer email.

I'm soo scared. I want this to be true I really do. But I don't know if I'm equipped enough to deal with a scam. I contacted the people on LinkedIn whose names appear on these emails to determine legitimacy. Their LinkedIn accounts seem real too. But I don't know.

For some reason I keep thinking this is a real deep scam. Fake website, fake company, fake LinkedIn all to make the ruse believable.

    How to get laid off?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 01:17 PM PDT

Found out today after salary cuts I'd make more money off unemployment. Anyone have good advice of how to get laid off without burning any bridges?

Work anxiety. Make appointment for mental health. Too expensive. Cancelled.

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 08:04 PM PDT

Been struggling with work anxiety issue for the longest time. Finally got the balls to make appointment for mental health and they call me back a day later to say my co-pay would be $150. Too expensive for my budget so had to cancel. Great. What a great time to live in the U.S. of A.

Why is PwC pushing back tax start dates to January but keeping audit to September?

I just honestly don't understand the logic here. Is it too late for me to switch to audit? Lol I hate this.

    Officially Unemployed Today

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 05:23 PM PDT

I worked in industry for all my career, 2+ years. Since my industry has to due with travel, thousands of people were supposed to be furloughed with 2-3 weeks pay and then put on unpaid leave. Well I along with many employees in the company were laid off after 3 weeks ranging from customer service reps to accountants. I have a family of 4 and was the main source of income. My wife makes only half what I make.

For the past year I have been pursuing my CPA license and am more than half way there. I have been studying every day when I can but with Prometric being closed it makes it hard to have a good plan laid out. No one at my work had an active license and being the only one actually pursuing they never understood the time and effort it took to better myself as an accountant. Having worked under both good and bad supervisors, I believe management can either make or break you when it comes to promotions and performance.

This all must have happend for a reason. I will be receiving a couple weeks severance and weeks of vacation I had saved up. I had to sign to get the severance which basically said I waive any claims against any wrongful termination. My horrible state only has a $240 week unemployment and is a no double dipping state so I don't know how many weeks it would take to get unemployment even though today is my last day? I have reached out to recruiters and am currently looking.

Anxiety is crushing me - working in industry

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 05:55 AM PDT

Long post incoming. Not sure if this is the right place to be posting but I just need to write this down somewhere.

I spent 8 years at a big 4 in Audit and then Advisory and moved to a large, listed, resources company about 9 months ago. The company is one of, if not, the most desirable companies to work for in industry in my city. The pay is almost unbeatable, benefits are great, the work is challenging and interesting, and the new office is amazing. The problem is I'm miserable.

The company is a company of high performing people and the expectation is that you will be a high performer. I've always been a perfectionist and taken work and life way too seriously no matter how hard I try to stop that mentality. So in this job where there is so much pressure to get things right, I am constantly stressed and anxious. Every single day I wake up riddled with anxiety. I get an email alert and I get that feeling where your stomach drops. I am not enjoying my life and it's starting to really eat away at my psyche. Working from home is really not helping either.

I feel like this is the best it can get for me in terms of a career in accounting. When I look at the company, the role and opportunities to move around the company I can't see how it's going to get better. Which has put me in a sort of existential crisis. I was also constantly stressed and anxious in Big 4 but it was all in service of moving onto something bigger and better, so I could convince myself one day things would be better. But now I feel like I've arrived and I'm the worst I've ever been.

I think ultimately I need professional help. But I'm also hoping somebody here has been through a similar thing and come out the other side better off. I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post this in this sub, so apologies if it's not.

I did an internship and got an FT offer. Is it okay to ask to be in a different line of work before accepting or should I do a busy season and then ask?

    How to decide?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 11:41 PM PDT

So I've just finished interview for spring 2021 internships And so far I've gotten offers from two firms. This wasn't something I was prepared for and they're both firms I really like the culture and benefits of. My friends have already recommended using a pro/cons list, but both firms have many pros and few cons. What's the best way to make a decision? Or how did you make your selection when you were interning?

Please explain accounting to a freshman in college?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 02:38 PM PDT

I'm going to be a freshman next fall and I was wondering if you guys can answer a few questions about accounting (you don't have to answer them all):

Before you answer this here are a few things about me- I like math (mostly algebra and trig. , calc, was alright), I was originally going to go into an engineering degree, but I took physics my senior year and realize I do not care about science at all (not that it was hard or I had a bad teacher I just wasn't interested), and I am slightly introverted (I will talk to other people if I need to, but I mostly stick to the same people I know and trust)

    1. Can you explain why you choose to go into this degree?
    2. Can you guys tell stuff I should know before going into this degree? Like what it is actually like and a general overview of what accounting is?
    3. Do you guys think it is a good idea to double major in this degree with finance? And with this, if I just get my bachelor's, is it better to double major?
    4. And what type of person is great at this job? (Ex. Extrovert or introvert;)
    5. Are you passionate about it or do you just like it for the money and stability?
    6. Anything else I should know.
