My work ended up on Floyd Mayweather's Instagram account in front of his 23 million followers.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:47 AM PDT

I've decided to reach out to some Instagram account with a decent following a year ago or so. Insane Luxury had around 350k followers so I DM them.

My offer was a free logo redesign in exchange for a promotion. The promotion had gone well and I landed a few good paying gigs. I helped them look better (they are at 458k followers), made some money and we both ended up on Floyd Mayweather's Instagram account in front of his 23 million followers multiple times.

A short sweet story I thought is worth sharing. Maybe someone will find inspiration or idea in this!

Feel free to check out more details on this project if interested.

EDIT: Some people believe the logo didn't end up on Floyd's Instagram. Here is a pic from my project: https://mir-s3-cdn-cf.behance.net/project_modules/fs/1f20c594579555.5e8267aa6001b.jpg

You can scroll down on his account and you will find it, more than once.

Anyone else think there is going to be a massive influx of small business owners after all this?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:57 AM PDT

I could probably put this in r/showerthoughts too, but a lot of people are finding out the hard way how much, or little rather, their company values them. This is one thing I think is going to drive people to start their own businesses, they will want to have their fate in their own hands as well as make sure their employees are treated better than they were. I know this is one reason for me to go the entrepreneur route.

There are other things I think might push people that way also but this is probably the biggest. What do yall think?

payroll or make mortgage, lease, and utility payments

    1. Borrower does not have an application pending for a loan duplicative of the

purpose and amounts applied for here, nor have they received a duplicative

loan since February 15. Note that previous SBA loans may be refinanced

    using a PPP loan.

    - Must apply by June 30, 2020

    Paycheck Protection Loan Details

    - Maximum loan amount is lesser of (a) 2.5 times the average monthly payroll (based on 12-month lookback) or (b) $10 million

    - Maximum interest rate is 4%

    - Maximum loan term of 10 years

    - First 6 months of payments (principal and interest) are automatically deferred;

before date the loan is made. (exceptions apply)

What Payrolls Costs are Included in the Paycheck Protection Program

    - Wages

    - Tips

    - Vacation and sick pay

    - Group health benefits

    - Severance

    - Retirement benefits

    - State and local taxes on employee compensation

How Does PPP Paycheck Protection Program Loan Forgiveness Work

    - Forgiveness equal to amount of qualifying expenses incurred in the first 8-week

period after origination of the PPP loan.

    - "Qualifying expenses" include:

    Payroll costs (defined earlier)

    Rent payments

    Mortgage interest (no principal payments)

Utility payments (electricity, gas, water, transportation, telephone, or internet

    access)

    - Forgiven amounts are not taxable to the small business (i.e., a tax-free grant)

    - Forgiven amounts are interest free

    PPP Limits on Loan Forgiveness

    - Loan forgiveness is reduced proportionately to the reduction in employee headcount during the COVID-19 crisis.

    - Loan forgiveness is reduced dollar-for-dollar by decreases in an employee's compensation greater than 25% from prior quarters

I run a scavenger hunt company. Our trails are closed (COVID) but now you make your own at home for free

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 04:05 AM PDT

I run Urban Hunt which normally creates cryptic self-guided adventures in cities around the world. Due to COVID however, we've had to close all our trails and sales are non-existent.

So in an effort to stay relevant, I've worked hard over the last few days to create a 'game builder' so you can make your own scavenger hunt, quiz or interactive lesson at home for free :). We are opening it up for the whole of April to hopefully bring some joy in this tricky time.

It's early days and we just launched it so please have a play and let me know what you think! I'm constantly trying to improve it as we go.

Keen to see what you create! Check out the game builder here

Is anyone interested in creating a new startup solely sourced by Redditors? During the COVID-19 Pandemic

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:50 PM PDT

Hey everyone! I have this crazy but potentially worthwhile idea. What if we created a totally crowdsourced company consisting of Reddit users?

The current climate is particularly terrible for finding new work. But what if If we were to pool resources (Marketing, DevOps, Sales, Business Mgmt, etc.) together to create a new company?

Before I begin diving into an explanation I will explain a little about myself. I have a background in digital marketing and website development but also experience in a variety of sectors (FinTech, MarTech, SaaS). I am a Product Development Manager for a Virtual Reality company based out of Atlanta. In 2014, I started my own consulting firm and was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a number of different startups over the last 6 years.

I have had several ideas for new startups during this time I have kept in my back pocket for a rainy day remote situation. One of these ideas, I have already completed extensive customer discovery for. I know the pain of the customer is there and the solution is quite simple. But I would need help in achieving this goal in all reality. Totally open to pursuing new ideas as well!

I know so many Redditors have experienced being laid off or temporarily let go from their jobs and are sitting at home looking for something to do. So the thought hit me, What if we pooled our resources during this downtime and all worked together for a common goal? Surely our combined industry experience could have this product to market (MVP) in almost no time if we put in the work. The risks are incredibly low for this project besides the overall willingness to help. It's mainly just the investment of time and energy into developing something that has value for others. I am not propositioning this idea for personal gain but with the idea to help our community benefit during this crappy time. And to maybe have something to show for our efforts once things go back to normal.

How cool would it be to say we started a successful company from an internet forum? I'm sure there are others out there who have done the same thing but the climate right now is much different than ever.

If you have an interest in being a part of this whether you have no startup experience or tons I would love to talk with you. I think it would be so cool to start this idea together and measure our success as we grow. I look forward to seeing the variety of crazy responses I am sure I will get from this post. My only intent is to see how far we can take this idea.

Thanks! And hope you all stay safe,

    G

When You Can Provide What the World Needs: NYC desperately needs a franchise to turn all laundromats into pick up and go. Where do I start?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 09:14 AM PDT

I'm not an entrepreneur, just a chess player. It would behoove all of New York's health and economy if we could have a platform to make everything by delivery.

How can I get this off the ground? I think it would also be an amazing opportunity to create jobs.

Getting use to making on the spot decisions?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 05:09 PM PDT

I've realized that in business there are a lot of on the spot decisions, all the time. Not even chess computers can play a perfect chess game since it's all trial and error when it reacts to the opponent(needs to keep changing tactics and correcting minor mistakes). A business then has some things that they try and don't work, or unforeseen things happen, or under performing.

So in a business is the idea that it's trying new things, it's improving things, and it's fixing things? Should my mindset be like a casino or an investment portfolio, to win more than lose in the long run, and to be consistent in my outcome since I should have some sort of competitive advantage, and more effective results. That's the general gist? What is your take on how to fix and improve things, and ultimately get a better result?

I want to start a water buying investor based business in Utah. Something similar to the micro lending business model.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 05:05 PM PDT

I've been working with water expert employees in Salt Lake City out of pure "right place at the right time" type stuff. My fam bought a house and discovered a drainage ditch that runs through their property and it *possibly" connects with an existing water supply. Of course they want to take advantage of it but it requires some work like negotiating with the current share holders, who we know, but also some hard labor like clearing debris from old spill ways and opening gates that haven't been opened in years if not decades. This is all just background info that has nothing to do with my idea but I wanted to give you all some background as to how I got here.

I really want to set up a micro buying fund where investors can buy small portions of water rights.

Where should I go? What steps should I take?

I look forward to any expertise you have to offer!

    SBA Paycheck Protection Program

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 04:33 PM PDT

For B2B, how do you conduct research on your ideal client avatar?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 02:23 PM PDT

So i've been a full time copywriter for a year and just realized I have no idea how to research potential clients (i.e. business owners)

Researching a customer base is one thing (psychographics, fears, desires, etc), but I'm really struggling with finding this info for business owners. Like I have no idea where or what step to even begin with

And since different size businesses have different needs, you need to find out their revenue so you can appeal to the ones who can afford you and don't think your price range is "cheap"... which is nearly impossible if they're a small or private business and not listed publicly.

Everyone says "go to where they congregate" without actually saying HOW to find out WHERE they even congregate.

TLDR; How the hell are you supposed to research your ideal client when it's B2B?

How businesses use reciprocity to get you to buy.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 05:05 PM PDT

Reciprocity, in short, is a social rule that says you should repay what's been given to you.

If you've been to a grocery store and took a free sample of, say, cheese, you've fallen prey to reciprocity. It's hard for customers to return an empty toothpick without buying anything, isn't it? So they buy something, pressured by reciprocity.

In fact, some people buy a full order without even liking the taste of the sample they tried.

    Crazy huh?

Truth is, a lot of businesses use reciprocity to gain more customers. You might not realize it, but companies use it on you all the time.

How businesses use the Law of Reciprocity to get you to buy.

    Infomercials, eBooks, newsletters, etc.

Businesses LOVE to give free information to assert themselves as a figure of authority. They're likely to gain their prospects' trust by appearing knowledgeable in their industry.

ClickSlice, an SEO agency, has been writing blogs giving tips and insights on SEO. Just good ol' free value. And of course, at the end of every article, a call to get help with SEO action can be seen.

ClickSlice clearly understands the power of giving value — and are reaping the rewards.

    Free Samples

I know we already mentioned free samples — but it goes far beyond grocery store cheese. Ever used the free trial version of a software? Ever been handed a piece of soap at a shopping center? How about trying out this "new perfume?" These are all classic examples of reciprocity at work.

    A gift inside an envelope

A lot of marketers do this. Charities being the main culprit. They'll put something that holds little value like a coin, a pin, or a keychain to show you're a supporter of their cause. Of course, you're naturally inclined to help out. Who are you to wear a breast cancer support pin without contributing?

There's hardly anything to lose for businesses that adopt this strategy. In most cases, when it fails, people "return-to-sender" with the "gift" inside the envelope.

    How are YOU using reciprocity?

Now that you know that reciprocity works and is so popular, what's stopping you from using it in your own business?

Whether your business is freelancing, B2B, e-Commerce, etc., there's always a way to use reciprocity.

So think up of ideas and test them. What have you got to lose?

CANADA: I am looking to start a "local etsy" essentially where I host an e-commerce site for local crafters who have lost the ability to do markets because of COVID. Logistics?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:35 PM PDT

Basically, I want to start a local etsy-like space where crafters and artisans can still sell their products. My town is largely an older population so a lot of these crafters don't even have a website, let alone the ability to sell right now. A lot of them have lost all their income.

Is there any specific business licenses I would need to operate "business to business" essentially?

How should I set up the local shipping/pick up? I don't have a space I can hold all the products. Perhaps I could let the crafter/artisan set whether they want to deliver or pick up with their customer?

What other factors should I consider? I haven't put a TON of thought into it just yet as I literally came up with the idea this morning while browsing online marketplaces on Facebook. Please be nice if you think my idea is stupid, I am new here lol.

[Feedback Requested] Supply Chain Consulting For Small Businesses

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:32 AM PDT

I'm using this time to really put into motion an idea that I've had for a while. I'm a supply chain expert and I want to help startups and small businesses that don't have the resources, time, or expertise to manage their procurement and supply chain activities effectively.

I want to give small businesses and startups a free needs assessment then create and manage a cost improvement plan and then take between 10%-25% of the savings achieved.

Is this something you think has merit/would be interested in?

I Was Approved In Claiming An Inactive Instagram Account Via Trademark Infringement

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:13 AM PDT

I actually made a video explaining exactly how I did it, but I can't post the link here without the post being removed. The account I was claiming was @ zachy and the claim was just approved 3 days ago.

In the video, I explain what I said to Instagram to plead my case, their initial rejection, my response, and then finally my approval.

    Important details:
    - I was legally granted a trademark on the name by the USPTO before submitting my claim.
    - This might not work for a regular person, but should for a business entity.
    - The username was inactive and seemingly not in use.

Hoping this will help others who are thinking about going after a taken or inactive account for business purposes.

I'll try to post a link to the video in the comment section but happy to also answer any questions about it here!
