EIDL advance based on number of employees? What about self-employed sole proprietors or independent contractors?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:31 PM PDT

I just called SBA and their customer service told me that the amount of EIDL advance will be based on number of employees! I asked how is it possible since independent contractors, self-employed sole proprietors do not have employees and they themselves are not considered employees? He said that I should wait for advance or rejection and should call back if I will get rejected. This made me super nervous, because if you are rejected what are the chances that you can re-apply successfully? I also heard that you can re-apply only once and after that you are done?

Could someone please clarify what they were told about #of employees and advance? Should I fill out another application and put 1 as my number of employees?

    SBA update

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 04:13 PM PDT

Just got off the phone with the SBA a minute ago. The rep I spoke with said she hasn't heard of anyone receiving the $10K advance. She did say the EIDL loan payouts/letters will be around 21 days out (as of today). She said things are changing daily and she doesn't know what to expect. Anyways, thought I would give an update...

Small Business Owners: What is your top concern right now that you would want a marketing agency to address & solve (costs aside)?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:44 AM PDT

Let me preface this by saying I have no intention of selling anyone, anything on this thread.

As someone new to the field of digital marketing, I would simply like to hear first hand from small business owners what their top concerns are given these unpredictable circumstances, and am especially interested with how they vary from field to field.

Sidenote: with the top concern obviously being sales & revenue, I'm hoping to get responses a bit more specific than that ...

Ex. Is customer retention a concern while you're unable to physically interact with them? Is integrating your businesses online at such short notice a main concern? Or, if you own a more high end establishment, are you worried about your clients not being able to afford your products/services when you reopen?

I'm open to hearing any & all responses, the more detail the better. Thanks in advance!

PPP can you layoff AFTER the 8 weeks post loan?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 04:28 AM PDT

Having trouble interpreting the bill. If a business accepted a PPP loan then the payroll of the 8 weeks following the acceptance date would be forgiven. It also lists that you have to rehire/restore pay of all employees by June. Would there be any issue if employees still stayed working, the PPP loan was used for the 8 weeks and then right after the 8 weeks employees were laid off and then rehired before June?

I'm just thinking once that PPP money runs out my employees are better off just collecting UI, hopefully this all blows over before that.

PSA: A request to you: Do you know anyone in the SBA who can do an AMA?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 10:09 PM PDT

Hi All. I would like to reach out to the SBA to get a representative in to do a question and answer session. Unfortunately, they seem to be a little busy at the moment and I need some help busting through to their press people or ideally someone in management.

If you have a contact or idea about how to get through please comment or message me. If you don't feel comfortable putting me in touch with them just ask your contact if they would like to talk with several hundred thousand concerned business owners before they start getting very, very angry. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity really.

    I appreciate your help.

EIDL and PPP are a DISASTER!

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 04:23 AM PDT

I wish there was another way to say it. However, small business owners are finding that the process to apply for and receive relief under the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) and the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) provisions of the CARES Act is much more difficult than anticipated. Furthermore, the big banks are imposing limitations to ensure that their clients who borrowed money from them are first in line.

Since this situation is changing constantly, I made a video to highlight the difficulties small businesses are experiencing in applying for relief under the CARES Act.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEZ8ifHzE5U

Please feel free to share this video so that this issue gets the attention that it deserves as the media seems completely uninterested in covering this matter.

Can social media influencers create their own stimulus package for small businesses?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 09:36 PM PDT

Ok so you may be wondering where I'm going with that question. While I sit in quarantine for 14 days and watching the news about the stimulus bill, I found the wheels in my mind starting to turn and work overtime. I came up with an idea that I think will show just how good humanity is as well as how we want to take care of our fellow man, not to mention how much better and smoother the world works with less government involvement

I know the stimulus bill passed by the government has $10k SBA loans at a low interest rate but that's just another debt the business owners have to pay back along with trying to rebuild, reopen, get caught up on other debts at the same time.

I've devised a plan where WE THE PEOPLE show the government we can do it better..... and the small business owners never have to pay it back.

Where my plan hits a snag it that it HAS to go viral to happen and the media needs to pick up on it and run with it. It will show the best in humanity and everyone is looking for something positive right now to grasp on to. We just need a couple of examples of proof to show it can work.

    My question is this.....

If you are an influencer, or have personal relationships with one (10k followers or more), I'd like to create a network where we all push the same idea simultaneously and get this ball rolling

I'd like to marry social media with micro-donations for specific businesses. Once a business reaches $10K in donations that funding campaign is closed, money delivered to the business owner for payroll, rent, supplies, etc... Then another business is chosen and rinse and repeat one after another. I'd like to see this take hold in every city. What blows my mind and gets me EXTREMELY excited about the possibilities is that the numbers are totally achievable even on a small scale. We are talking just 1000 people donating $10 each one time for hitting the $10K goal of each campaign.

I'm based in Wichita,KS and would like for this to kick off here locally and that's the only thing I'm asking for personally. I want my home town to be recognized as where the movement started. I think this could really be a great movement that can be remembered for generations and we can all say we had a part in saving hundreds even thousands of businesses from closing during Covid-19 in 2020

So if you are an influencer with a good following, or can get me in touch with one, please reach out to me so we can coordinate

EIDL 5B in sba loans to 17000 businesses

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:30 AM PDT

If the numbers Jovita shares are true then we can expect $0.00..Looks like the money went to "large" small businesses The rich getting richer...And they dont think they get entitlements...this was an entitlement for the wealthy. At this rate only about 40,000 of small businesses will benefit. SMH ...Appears they were just trying to gather information..maybe info was lost (hacked) and this was a way to get it back.hmmmm

    PPP vs unemployment

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 09:30 PM PDT

I am a gig worker (1099 independent contractor) with no real business related overhead. Should I apply for unemployment or PPP based on the fact that my expenses are personal, such as rent at my apartment, car and credit card payments, etc.? I know PPP pretty clearly states that 75% of the money has to be used for payroll expenses. Even if I tried to break down my phone and internet bills, space in my apartment allocated for business purposes, etc. I wouldn't come close to 75% of my expenses being for payroll. Is anyone in a similar position and still thinking of applying?

Maybe my main question should be: If I AM able to make PPP work, should I use it for the 2.5 months it's available, then switch over to unemployment assuming I'm not able to get work at that time? Or should I just go with unemployment right out of the gate.

Thanks to anyone who can give advice in this crazy time. Good luck to all of you

Contacting Senator Chris Coons about Economic Injury Disaster Loan

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:16 PM PDT

I've reached out to Senator Chris Coons over the weekend, and he responded "Thank you for raising this issue-please reach out to my office tomorrow so we can try to help".

I'm planning on addressing two points about the Economic Injury Disaster Loan:

    - The grant/advance now being based on number of employees vs. the requirement of a $10,000 grant

    - Grant/advance disbursement being delayed past 3 days of application (now it looks as if the 3 days start once someone starts processing the application)

I think these are two big issues regarding EIDL. Is there anything I'm missing? Anything that you would add? He's one of the four senators that wrote to SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza, so I want to make sure I take this chance to say everything that needs to be said.

Where can you hire freelance developer & what should you aware when recruiting them?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 02:06 AM PDT

Hi, I am leading a small team of 4 people and we was developing a small workflow automation tool. Unfortunately our lead developer had to part way from us for certain reasons. Apparently he wanted to begin his venture. It was quite sad for me but I figured that I should respect his decision.

For that reason I am planning to find a new developer. But that COVID-19 situation made me unable to meet new people in person. Then I decided to try hiring freelancers but honestly I am not sure if it would work well.

I used to hire a freelance designer via Fiverr to help designing a logo. But that is too different than hiring a developers. Therefore I would like to ask if there is anyone has hired freelance developer before?

I wish to know where is the good source to find quality developers. And also what should I pay attention to when hiring freelance developers?

Thanks in advance! And let us stay strong through the virus!

Wells Fargo may not be doing PPP loans!

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 09:25 PM PDT

    US Bank finally responded.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 05:37 PM PDT

My current bank is not doing PPP loans. I filled out the US Bank contact sheet on April 1st. Just now got a response.

From the email: We are building the process to accept applications from non-U.S. Bank customers who have businesses in states where we have branches. Non-customers will require additional, manual verification steps that will add time to the process. We expect to have more information about that process and requirements early next week.

EIDL loan payment received (about 1 month after applying) and was only capped IF you don’t offer collateral.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 08:33 AM PDT

A lot of your are freaking out about the EIDL loan, so I thought I would update you from a business in King County (Seattle). We were declared a disaster area early so we qualified to apply in mid March.

The business applied mid March (week of March 8th) with the old application. The were contacted by SBA a week later requiring more documents. They were then contacted to sign about 3 days later.

At this point the PPP was not out nor was the 10K advance. When the advance was announced they reapplied for the 10K advance and have now applied for the PPP as well. Haven't heard anything about the advance or PPP. Reapplying for the advance did not move their place in the queue for their original application for the EIDL loan.

They received their EIDL loan payment (not the 10K advance) on Friday, April 3rd. They received 50% of their gross annual sales at 3.75% over 30 years. It was well over 15K and was not broken down into multiple payments. It was 100% what they applied for/approved for.

They did have to use their business assets as collateral to receive the funding, but they were okay with that as they don't have too many assets and would lose everything anyway without the loan.

They would've been capped at 15K-25K (not sure if this includes the 10K advance) IF they didn't put up any collateral. I'm not sure if this is a sliding scale cap and they weren't sure the exact cap, but believe it to be around that number. EDIT: it could've been their cap based on their ability to repay.

One thing they did was call the SBA often to check in. I applied personally a few days later and haven't heard a word, but I have multiple businesses and imagine they are having to look deeper into my application. I will be calling tomorrow to check.

I just thought I would offer some insight to a successful EIDL loan, since this has been extremely frustrating and confusing for most.

I can't say for certain that some rules have changed since they applied or the SBA may change things again, but this is what I know for sure for now.
