Employer requires me to wear gloves, I'm allergic to the gloves and they won't buy different ones.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 04:35 AM PDT

I am required to wear gloves to handle food, and I have developed an allergy to them since working there. It started as nothing, then I'd be a little itchy after work, and skip to now and one shift wearing gloves causes severe contact dermatitis all over both hands. Large blisters, hives, etc. I requested hypoallergenic gloves, and was told that I can wear them but that I must buy them for myself with my own money.

What are my options here? I did not document the injury with OSHA but I did report it to the assistant manager in person so she could see what happened.

Roommate let in a stranger to take the place, turns out she's from a foreign country and needed to self-isolate for 2 weeks.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 07:11 AM PDT

This is Ontario, Canada. Roommate of mine, whom I don't ever talk to and don't know well personally, has been a uncooperative child in the house not paying his bills, stealing food and other lousy things roommates can pull. So far it hasn't been too much of a problem but yesterday he decided to scam a girl who just came back from a foreign country in Asia, who only wanted to self-isolate herself in a place no one would be around. Now everyone in the room has been exposed to this woman thanks to him. According to the girl she has no symptoms.

My other roommate have already tried calling the police but there is nothing can do it seems.

Is there anything I can do? Am I safe to be with this person? I am confused on what I should do next.

My ex-Landlord is threatening to call my boss to get me fired

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:03 AM PDT

(WA) My ex landlord and I have had a contentious departure. My lease finally ended on 31Mar. I got out of there finally but keep receiving a bill for rent from him. Our lease is totally over and yet he's trying to get me to pay rent for April plus late fees.

I finally wrote an email today, after the third notice, saying that his demands were laughable and that I thought we'd both be happy to see me gone.

He has now said he is going to contact my employer, the us military, to complain about my conduct and my physical threats against him. I've never met him or his representative, it's been all via email. I've taken great pains to keep my emails pilot but pithy.

I'm not worried about my command believing him. I'm worried about the continued harassment. If he does try to get my fired, what's my recourse? Beyond ignoring him, what do I do? This is all compounded by the fact I'm getting ready to deploy during COVID and can't even verify the amount of my returned deposit until months later.

My step dad molested me when I was 12 and physically abused my brother for years . My mom knew the night he touched me and kicked him out. I want to go to the police now that I’m 22 but am scared that my mom could get in trouble for not reporting. He has 4 kids now and I’m worried about them.

Employer serving food to public during pandemic has confirmed positive cases and not telling anyone

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 02:56 PM PDT

We're in Texas. My company is serving food to to our local community at different locations throughout the city. We come into contact with hundreds of people everyday and we are not provided with any masks, only food service gloves as ppe. I had to borrow hand sanitizer from someone, because our company would not provide it. At one of our locations, an employee's SO tested positive for covid 19. That employee was then asked to get tested. They also came back positive. This employee worked for 2 weeks preparing meals and serving the community while being infected. My company has chosen to not tell anyone. They finished out the week and then sent everyone home from that location for 2 weeks quarantine, but didn't tell them why. They have already hired a new staff to move to that location to take over next week. The community doesn't know they were previously exposed, the employees for the past 2 weeks don't know, and the one person who does know, was told she couldn't tell anyone. She told me because she tells me everything and she was the site supervisor over there. The company won't pay for her to get tested or anything. I feel like the community and the employees need to know. Can I lose my job if I let health authorities and/or local news know what is going on?? What are my options?

Update: I have filed an official complaint with OSHA

A gynecologist STD tested me without my consent and now I'm being billed $400?!

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 08:36 AM PDT

I went to a local gyno in West Palm Beach, Florida (I'm new in town so this was a first time visit) for a checkup to make sure my iud was in place. I told her I had bloodwork and had been checked within the last 6 months and did not need any testing done, just to have her feel/see that my iud is still in place. She did something up there, so I took it she checked it. She then left the room and no talk with me once she left the room. A nurse came in and said everything seemed fine, and told me I'm good to go. I never even got called with the results, I called them to ask why I had been billed for an STD test and they went on to be like 'oh yeah here are your results'. How do I report my gyno?! Do I have to pay this?! She did not do what I came there for and how can you STD test me without my consent?! Now Quest diagnostics keeps billing me, I've called me gyno and tried to argue this but the frontdesk person doesn't have much control and I can't speak with anyone else. How do I dispute this and report the gyno?

4 years after divorce, my relentless dad keeps filing lawsuits against my mom and it's costing us thousands per month.

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 08:13 PM PDT

I have just turned 18, I hope me being adult widens my options. We live in New York, specifically in Suffolk County, Long Island.

-My father has his own (delusional) narrative of how he's invested billions of dollars into my brother and I. He has completely made up that figure. He continues to make baseless claims that my mother is abusive, mentally ill, promiscuous, and other rather false statements about how she is unfit as a parent.

    -I have a brother who is 16.

-My mother has full custody of my brother and had full custody of me until I turned 18.

-My mother has a boyfriend who lives with us. We are all happy with him.

-My father currently lives in the basement. He was legally required to move out a while ago. We have almost no interaction with him.

Anyway, my father continues to file lawsuits against my mother, her lawyer, AND the judges involved in the cases. I'm seeing the lawyer bills and the numbers are adding up to the tens of thousands of dollars a year. What can I or my mother do to try and stop these lawsuits?

If more details are necessary, I'll provide.

    Thank you

Edit: Thank you all. I'm not that good at replying but I see your advice. I learned a new thing from here: Litigation abuse. I'll try to put your info to good use.

What do people think of this item on a lease I've been offered?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 09:06 AM PDT

    Hello,

I've turned in an application for a rental house and they sent me a copy of the lease to look over. This item stood out to me as unusual and I wanted to see if anyone could make heads or tails of this. I want to know if this makes me liable for damage to the house or property if a storm blows a tree over on the house.

    1. "Owner shall not be responsible for any damages of any kind caused by lack of heat, refrigeration, or other services to the Premises arising out of any accident, act of God, or occurrence beyond the control of Owner. Tenant further agrees to be responsible and pay for damages, fines, or fees incurred by Owner caused by acts of Tenant, other occupants of Premises, pets and/or guests or visitors."

    EDIT: Oregon, USA

Is it illegal for someone to take charitable donations and then use those to buy products from their own company?

I know someone who is a averagely known Instagram "influencer" and they are asking for donations. She is then using that money to buy products from her own company to make baskets to give to them. Is this illegal and if so, who should I report them to?

    Requesting an autopsy in Utah

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 07:53 PM PDT

My father passed away due to neglect a few nights ago. I can't share a lot of detail but I'm trying to request an autopsy be done in Utah and I'm running into a lot of road blocks.

-The medical examiner won't do it because they don't deem it criminal. I have filed a police report

-Doctors have requested it but the medical examiner still won't do it

-I have not been able to find someone to do a private autopsy. I tried 1800-autopsy(yes it's real) and they don't operate in Utah

Does anyone have experience with this? Any reputable options for an autopsy?

Landlord tried to evict me but couldn’t because of COVID -19. He was incredibly angry and tried to instigate a fight. Now want to “surprise inspect”.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:35 PM PDT

I live in Indianapolis IN, and due to COVID i fell behind on rent. My landlord is trying to get me to leave and is being really nasty cussing me out and dissing me calling me "kiddo" and "liar" and "sleeze". He just said he is coming by tmw to "surprise inspect" my house. Im honestly really scared and i don't know what to do. He is being really scary. I also plan on paying and have told him that i just needed more time. I really dont want to have this situation escalate in person (i might hit him) and i also dont want to break my quarantine ive been meticulously socially distant

Edit: he has never come by before. Is there a way he can just not come? What if he just never leavs or sits in my driveway all night. Thats the kind of guy he is proving to be.

[RI/CT] My parents are refusing to follow their quarantine order

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 02:06 PM PDT

There is an executive order in the state of Rhode Island (and Providence Plantations) saying that anyone who has been out of state within the past 14 days must self-quarantine. My family lives in Rhode Island near the border with Connecticut and my parents are refusing to stay in the Ocean State. It isn't a case of "I have to go to my doctor in Connecticut," but rather "I want to go to Big Y instead of Stop and Shop" and "I don't feel like Chipotle (RI); I want Moes (CT)."

I'm losing my mind. They're both 55, so not high on the ventilator totem pole. Neither of them can comprehend that everyone is at risk for "the Kung Flu." Example: They don't want me to work at Walmart, but they're fine with me working at Target because "there are less undesirables." When I bring up that we're under quarantine because they had to go to freckin' Lowes instead of Home Depot, they say stuff like "I took the backroads; no one knows" and "The quarantine isn't for people like us!"

I love my parents and I don't want them to die. At the same time, they get angry at the police for "wasting time" when they get traffic tickets. I'm also not 100% positive they're violating the quarantine order, since they aren't going into Rhode Island public space. Lastly, we've all been out of state within the past two days1 and have no way to get essential supplies, since delivery services like Postmates, Uber Eats, and Peapod do not exist where we live.

    What can/should I do?

1: My parents got take-out from a restaurant and sent me to pick it up. I've been to this restaurant so often that it totally slipped my mind that I was leaving the state. Fuck Tom Brady for leaving us in our time of need.

Ex-GF harassing current GF and myself

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 09:33 AM PDT

Ex-girlfriend has gone crazy and the police are of little use to help solve this and put an end to it (Canada).

She has been harassing myself and then my girlfriend for the past 5 months. Started out with fake phone calls, text messages, then moved onto fake instagram accounts where the account name / bio sends a diff. message each time (i.e. youshoulddie, etc.).

I've changed my number 4 times now and stopped updating my # anywhere and closed out nearly everyone. She makes hundreds of fake instagram accounts (I have it tracked to the date & time) and keeps following us on instagram. Removing instagram isn't the solution for two reasons, a) she shouldn't be allowed that control, b) she would just somehow get our phone #'s again.

There literally seems to be no way to end it. Police actually brought her in for questioning and everything but they won't charge her.

Is there any way to pin point it exactly to her for evidence if she's using fake phone #'s from a fake # generator app then making the instagram accounts from that fake #?

What charges under the criminal code would this fall under? (Trying to do the cops job for him at this point…)

My Property Manager Lost My Leases - NC

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 08:47 AM PDT

My property manager for one my rental properties lost the leases for my current tenants. That said, I was never provided copies of these leases either. Now, I am under contract to sell the property, but they need copies of the leases for them to secure financing. My property manager has been given weeks to find or obtain copies of these leases and hasn't done anything.

Additionally, he waited over 10 days to notify my tenants of the sale, but I don't know if he has really done this.

He is a licensed real estate agent and property manager. What can I do if he is the causation of my sale to fail?

(Update) Notice to vacate within 5 days.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:13 PM PDT

Thanks to those who responded to the original post. Original

So, it's been another day. This morning, I wake up and both the door to my bathroom is locked and the door leading to the second bathroom downstairs with the laundry is locked. I called the police. They said they can't do anything because its a civil matter. I go out to go to the bathroom and get some food. By the time I come back, now I'm locked out of the house. I call the police again. Again civil issue that needs to be settled in court.

I finally get back in when I agree to wear a mask, and get sprayed down with disinfectant and vinegar all over my clothes. She makes me take off my shoes and and sprays it all over including the bottom.

Do I literally have no recourse? Her defense is that the covid 19 stuff allows her to enforce strict measures to protect her life. Am I just held hostage to her like this?

I've started documenting all these instances. Please don't tell me this is legal. I'm losing my mind.

Current home I'm building has a lien on it. Texas

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 01:00 PM PDT

TL;DR this is in Texas. Current home I'm paying a company to build has lien on it. Contractor has not paid employees a cent. I paid 190K in cash upfront to have it built. Contractor in mexico with husband who is in prison for drug trafficking.

I hired a contracting company to build a home. I sold my old home so I was able to pay everything in cash.

Contractor has slowly built it but always gave me the run around. Every answer was always "it will be done this week."

I need to check the contract but I think it states that the home would be finished Jan 30th. Never was and still isnt quite done. Still needed a septic tank and address number. I still dont know my own address so I can add utilities.

I have been living there for about a month with no running water. NBD. I just boiled some water and bathed in the garage. I kept believing everything would be done in a week like she always mentioned. 2 months have passed.

The home is just about done. Then 2 weeks ago the plumbers and electricians all come over at the same time. They went there to let me know that they are suing the contractor because she has yet to pay them. They told me that their lawyers told them that lien would be placed on the home.

I called the contractor to let her know what I was told minutes earlier. She told me she is in mexico. She also again said "it will be done in a week" while she is in mexico!

That was on a saturday. The following Monday lo and behold the septic tank is FINALLY being installed and finished up the following friday.

The electrician and plumber finished their jobs after I paid them out of pocket to finish the little things left. They didnt want to accept the money. I forced them to accept payment.

After I paid them that is when they told me that the contractor is in mexico because her husband is in prison because he recently got caught drug trafficking.

On top of this contractor not paying them she hired nothing but undocumented workers (so she thought, some are some are not) thinking she could get away with it.

Other workers who were not paid did not want to join the electrician and plumber because they are afraid of getting deported.

Will this keep me from closing on the home? Will I be forced to move out? Can I get an address? Should I lawyer up despite putting all my cash into this home? I have no cash left.

I honestly dont know how to proceed. The contract i signed states that no jury trial shall be held. That I have to file complaints using chapter 27 of Texas. No idea what that means.

    What should I do?

    Welfare fraud.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 01:44 PM PDT

My sister has been collecting welfare for her first child but she started it become a addict and she abandoned him with us when he was about 6( he's now 10 but living with his dad) I was very young so I didn't know what was going on. She eventually came back pregnant and had a baby girl. Literally the first night they came home she left. 4 years past by and she finally decided to come because with his Coronavirus going on. I truly fucken hate her, she made my mom a life hell. Raising two kids that weren't even hers and my mom was struggling with money because she just cleaned houses. Meanwhile my sister was out in the streets doing meth, collecting checks from welfare. I've told my mom I wanted to call the cops on her but she wouldn't let me. Now that she is here( she's been here for 2 weeks) she eats all day, and leaves her mess in the kitchen. She doesn't even help buy groceries. I'm the only income * everyone got laid off * and it's me, my mom, my other sister & my addict sister and her daughter. I asked her already to buy groceries and she said she's waiting on her stamps but that's a lie because they get refilled the 1st of month. I don't find it fair that she is just here eating all our food she literally eats 8 times a day and we have to pay in rent and food. When she gets money for food for her children and she just been using it for drugs the past 6 years. I decided I want to report her to the welfare fraud #, but I'm worried for my niece what would happen to her? Can I take temporary custody of her? My addict sister is sometimes violent and threatens to take her daughter away claiming we didn't raise her right. I don't want her to take her because I heard she sleeps with men for drugs. I'm not sure if she is using at the moment or withdrawal. But I want her out of this house, but my mom would never forgive me. She is going to do the same thing she always does comes, and leaves within weeks. Any advice :( I'm a 20 yrF my paycheck for about 1,100 every 2 weeks. I'm from LA county

    Illegal Website

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 01:26 PM PDT

Hi, so I was watching porn (not hardcore) on YouTube a couple of days ago, and saw a video which featured a young girl although I couldn't really tell what her age was but I was scared. I traced the video to the website it came from, and tried to see whether the website was legal. After finding nothing about the legality of website from the British governments film censorship site, I reported an anonymous tip to the missing children's center detailing this exact info. I called them yesterday describing the events and the lady on the line said that I had done the right thing. However I'm still concerned about whether I broke any laws. I'm in California if that helps.

Edit: Another point of concern is that in my tip I used the word stumbled to describe how I ran into the video. I clicked on it as it showed an older woman as the YouTube image thing, and then it had someone who looked young, but also could have possibly had makeup on to make herself look young, when the video started. I watched the vid in full not really understanding whether or not this was a child, and might have rewinded (I started panicking soon after I watched so I don't really remember). Note that I'm worried about this and the fact that I said "stumbled"

Edit2: Ok so long story short I ended up calling and telling them that the stress of the situation caused me to potentially make some errors or be kinda vague. I told the original story as best I remembered it, and was told not to worry and that my actions were fine. They will investigate said website and that's the end of my involvement.

Was deemed “essential,” then had pay immediately cut. Does this affect my rights to unemployment?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 09:04 AM PDT

I work at a car dealership which got piggy backed into "essential" based on being a part of the "supply chain for essential services." In reality, this is the broadest interpretation of the law, and probably innacurate.

Many of my coworkers were laid off and collecting unemployment, however some of us were called back into work. After about 10 days of working, the dealership said that we must take a 40% wage cut, or that "they will find people who want to work." This wage cut will actually most likely be less than we would make in unemployment.

They said they are doing this because "they are really struggling," however our owners are worth well into the 100s of millions. We are also commission, so we only get paid on the profit of what we sell, anyway. Do I just refuse to sign the new payplan, and let them fire me?? Thank you.

Housemate is having a friend live with us basically indefinitely, is that allowed?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:43 PM PDT

There are currently 6 people on our lease paying rent. A housemate, without asking anyone, agreed to let their friend come live with us for a very extended period of time (probably upwards of 4 months). Is she legally obligated to be paying rent or sign the lease? After how much time is she no longer just a "guest"? Can our landlord force her to leave? We do not want her there at all, let alone if she's not going to pay for rent and the utilities she is uses. Thank you for any advice

    North Carolina Property Eviction

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 10:00 AM PDT

{I am} ° not on the lease or authorized to live at property by landlord ° living here for 5 months ° receiving mail ° paying the tenants in money and groceries for rent ° been given a house key {Landlord has} ° charged the renters account a 500 fine for having a non-authorized person live in the home ° asked me to leave because I am not on the lease ° told me I am not protected by the (no evictions) virus status because I'm not on the lease or authorized to live here

Am I going to be displaced during this pandemic? Do I have rights even if I'm not on a lease? The amount of time that I've had a key(lived here), contribute to bills, and receiving mail doesn't keep me safe in North Carolina from a landlord asking me to leave during or after the pandemic? During the pandemic am I safe? I'm scared. After the pandemic I would be fine with finding a new place and transitioning, but there still wouldn't be anything lawfully protecting me from immediate ejection? I would never get a 7 day notice or 30 day notice to move out in my current situation?

Is it possible to have something removed from your driving record by the court?

I had my license temporarily suspended for failure to appear (minor moving violation) in June 2017, it's my fault for forgetting about it and I had my license reinstated within 5 days by paying what was required to DMV/court.

I want to lower my auto insurance and this is effecting it bad, is there anyway or a process to go through to have it expunged and removed from my record?

Employer is offering increased sick time but wants me to check a box allowing them to contact my doctor and verify high-risk preexisting condition (TX here, GA employer)

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 10:20 PM PDT

My employer is offering increased paid time off for individuals who have preexisting conditions that are considered high-risk for COVID-19 complications, like being morbidly obese, having asthma or COPD, being immunocompromised, being pregnant, etc. I do fall into one of these categories and have been working from home for weeks to reduce my risk. I would like to submit for the extra hours, but to do so, I must fill out a form stating I have one or more of the high-risk preexisting conditions and am authorizing my employer to contact my doctor so that they may verify details of my preexisting condition, including what if any maintenance medications I take.

I appreciate the extra hours, but that broad authorization concerns me. I am not trying to trick anyone or lie about having health issues. I am just very wary of giving anyone that kind of access to my medical information.

Is this legal? Is checking a box even binding or enough to allow my doctor to disclose my medical information? Is this just an attempt to discourage people from lying but not actually something they can follow through with? If so, am I just being paranoid about not wanting to sign that anyway?

My employer is based in Georgia and has employees all over the US; I am personally located in Texas.

Medically approved to isolate - do I have to tell my employer ?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 02:25 PM PDT

I am 56 and female and have worked for a public library for 14 years in NC, USA. The library is considered county government and we closed about two weeks ago. We are getting paid so far and waiting for more directives but my area is under a stay home order from our governor until April 29. I can do 90% of my job from home if required. My doctor is sending me a letter that I am medically approved for quarantine status due to asthma. Should I share immediately or wait and see what plays out? Is there a scenario where they could force me to use any vacation time or sick time both are over 5 weeks due to number of years I have been there and they allow our time to roll over. So I don't get 5 weeks a year- nothing near that. What are the pros/cons to submitting my health status during the Covid 19 pandemic? Can I choose to share only if/when asked to do something that compromises my health ?
