I just closed my largest deal ever, even amidst a global pandemic. Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:27 AM PDT Just want to shed some light and hopefully encourage others. I sell engineering/architecture services and just landed a $34mm public safety facility. My team worked for a year and a half, and it culminated with a virtual interview. It's easy for us all to get down during these uncertain times. Remember that your client's needs might be a little different, but you can use this time to build on your relationship with them. Keep your head up! [link] [comments] |
I compiled a list of startups with purchasing power (April 2020) Posted: 06 Apr 2020 04:32 AM PDT Hi everyone, I collected information on every single startup that just raised money. I thought it might help, since so many companies are cutting their expenses and budgets right now. You can download the list and do whatever you want with it. Enjoy :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Apr 2020 02:33 PM PDT Another week upon us. Another struggle. Another shit show. Let's power through. Keep our chins high when life punches us in the throat. People will remember how you have handled this. Let it be a new character trait rather than a flaw! Good luck. I salute you all. [link] [comments] |
Is it bad if you’re looking for new jobs right now if you’re employed? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:08 AM PDT I'm still looking to make the next move. But now with so many people being laid off, it feels weird to even try to initiate any conversations. Thoughts on looking if you aren't one of the many who have lost their job/are losing their jobs due to the current situation? [link] [comments] |
Cold calling companies not in the office Posted: 06 Apr 2020 12:47 PM PDT How are you guys cold calling companies when they aren't in their offices lol? I don't want to be a creep and just call people but I'm curious how you guys are doing in these weird times 😂 [link] [comments] |
What CRM would you recommend and why? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:36 AM PDT I'm starting out now with my own company. It's just me, and sales need to be made. I've used Hubspot Sales Starter for 2 weeks but I don't like that I can't send bulk emails and chain more than 5 steps into a cadence. After doing some research, Freshsales seems like a good option. Curious to hear what you guys use and why you like it, any feedback is welcome. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Anybody know what it's like working for AWS? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:58 AM PDT Title says it all really. I'm working for another software company (grateful to have any job) but was reached out to by a recruiter from AWS this week and while I like my job, I figured I had to at least speak to them. I'm sure almost everyone, if not everyone, in this sub and in the sales world in general has heard of Amazon's legendary reputation for being a high pressure, ruthless culture. Wanted to see if anyone here works for AWS or knows someone that does and if you or they can confirm what it's like. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
can you get fired for cause for not hitting quota during covid 19? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:03 PM PDT no1 in my company is hitting quota, honestly, nobody was hitting quota before this pandemic... Can they fire me for cause after I don't hit quota in Q2 due to the covid stuff? [link] [comments] |
What do you leave in your prospect's voicemail? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:12 AM PDT |
How to get confident when you're not? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:26 AM PDT Apparently can see through a fake facade and feel your uncertainty. How can I ever give off confident vibes? They say "fake it til you make it" But if people Can see through fakness. You'll never make it? Struggling in sales. My colleagues have no worries lying and are really charming. It's hard to copy those. I don't know what to do really. I'm having high activity in pitching my deal [link] [comments] |
Help with pitch please. 15 min screenshare. Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:46 AM PDT Hey everyone. I have been in sales 10+ years majority of that time with Zillow. I have always been a hard closer . I just started a new job at a website design/ Seo marketing company . My job now is to set 15 min screen shares to either build them a website or help with seo or both. Anyone have any tips to help get more appointments set up? Help is much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:16 PM PDT Commissions are grinding to a halt, and my boss just told me they cannot get the SBA-PPP loan for the contract employees (commissioned sales). They suggested we apply for the loan using our 1099 from last year. Anyone else in this situation? Looks like the loan will be forgiven if we are using it to pay ourselves the normal monthly commission/wage. Hate it's come to this. I had a good start to the year, but now I do not have any customers open or buying. [link] [comments] |

SDR Role: Big Company vs. Small Company Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:13 AM PDT Hey guys! Im currently interviewing w/ a 25 person health tech start up for an SDR role. I like the start up atmosphere, I don't think id like being one of 500 other sales people. Being part of a tight knit team where I have a voice somewhat and have a better shot a promotion is appealing. However as its my first sales job, do you guys think that's a good move? Long term, would it be better to gain some experience somewhere like salesforce for example? Thanks guys! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:31 AM PDT Used car salesman, have you noticed sales going down because of the pandemic? Have prices gone down too? Looking to buy a used car in the next 3-6 months and I wonder if I should wait? Thanks and stay safe [link] [comments] |
Looking to Transition Out of Sales - But to what? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:58 AM PDT I've been doing enterprise software sales over the phone for 8 years since graduating college with a BS in business administration. I was never in love with this career choice, but I knew it paid so I stuck with it. I'm currently working for one of the top cybersecurity software companies in the world, getting paid over $150k per year (includes average commission payout). However, the salary is the only positive I can think of. I've always struggled with anxiety and depression, and I feel like the constant pressure of my quota and angry management has heightened the way this plays into my personal life. I can't sleep, I'm too stressed to motivate myself to workout, and above all I'm just unsatisfied and unhappy. When a big deal comes in, I don't really care anymore. I've received commission checks that would cover almost a year of my expensive rent, and I don't bat an eye. I think what has really added to my stress lately has been the evolution of how companies track you. My company purchased a software that monitors everything, and I mean everything, you do or don't do. This ranges from number of emails sent externally, how many phone calls, how long did they last, how long were you on a non work website, how long is your mouse idle on the screen, among many other categories, then you are stack ranked by this "productivity score" and we are all told where we rank. It's one thing for us to be totally ignorant to this happening behind the scenes, but now that we are aware of it and see where we rank, it's impossible to truly disconnect from work without feeling like you aren't doing enough. Last Friday afternoon during this pandemic, which has its own stresses already, my manager called me and said I haven't been active enough....I'm working over 12 hours a day!! But my frat boy adderall-popping colleagues are apparently working even longer, and the standard is always how the top 2-3 are doing. Just doesn't seem fair. I've always had this belief that the place you spend the majority of your life at should do more than just provide financial comfort. I've saved up enough money to where I'm willing to take a leap of faith and do something new, even if it comes with a pay cut. So my question is...with 8 years of software sales and a business degree, what are my options from here? I want something more stable and secure, even if it pays less. I'd consider it an investment in my happiness at this point. Any help would literally be life saving to me, because the depression and lack of self worth is hitting real right now. To those who read up to this point, thank you, and I welcome anyone's advice to guide me during this mental health struggle I have found myself in. [link] [comments] |
Are people answering phones right now? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:07 AM PDT During this unfortunate crisis, are prospects picking up the phone? I just assumed, since people are working from home, calling would be pointless. I usually don't mind calling people's cell phones but I don't feel comfortable during this. How are other people handling this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:33 AM PDT I'm in the printed branding and labelling industry dealing mostly with furniture and mattress manufacturers. I've recently been promoted from Account Manager to Account Executive and am wondering which selling technique seems best for an industry where you're selling a product that everyone either already has or is making a conscious decision to do without. I was successful as an AM growing existing customers with additional product lines or higher end offerings but have no idea how to differentiate myself from competition when trying to earn new business. Average order size for a normal customer is between $200 and $1,000 and account size can run from one order of that size per year for Mom and Pops to customers in the millers of dollars, which unfortunately aren't mine. My team was and still is a seeming repository for accounts that are a lot of work for the value (and that no one really wants). There are certainly big fish out there but how to get a meeting about a commodity-type product other than "we'll be cheaper" (not my experience as an AM) or "our products are better quality" which I can't prove over the phone and is hard to discern under the best conditions? Most everything I've read seems to be focused on product that a prospect either doesn't know or isn't knowledgeable about. It seems the strength of most of those styles is an easily recognized benefit that's large enough to make clear on an initial call to a prospect. I'm still doing well with my existing accounts but now I need to fill my pipeline.. especially under these circumstances. [link] [comments] |
Solution Engineer job at Salesforce Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:59 AM PDT Hi all, I have an interview with Salesforce for a solutions engineer role. I come from a Salesforce-centric background (worked as an admin for a good amount of years). The one thing I seem to have trouble conveying is 'how did you influence stakeholders to purchase a product'. I don't have a sales background (outside of a few experiences early in my career and retail) however, I know that it's something that I would excel out. I naturally love working with people and making them happy, but can't seem to find a good way to articulate and answer this question so that it highlights how I could excel at sales (without having any direct experience). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Showroom Closed, High ticket sales via phone/email or web Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:39 AM PDT Hello I wonder if I could ask for some advice from more seasoned salespersons than myself. We sell a range of high ticket hot tubs. The issue we face is that there are also many low ticket hot tubs for sale online. The hot tub industry lacks any brand awareness, so for anyone looking - a hot tub is a hot tub and only difference is the price. With with Coronavirus movement restrictions our showroom has had to close. In the showroom we are able to demonstrate the differences and why these are a higher price However online/web/phone this is much harder to do so. The prospective customer generally just ask for the price and instantly put off making the sales process much harder Any advice for selling high ticket items when you can't get face to face? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:10 AM PDT Hey everyone! I'm in copier sales and I've been trying to close this account. I usually go in face to face when following up after a proposal. But during these times, its frowned upon (COVID19). I like going in face to face because i get a better feel and understanding of what the DM is thinking. Right now I'm having to follow up through email/phone, and I'm limited to my closing techniques in a face to face scenario. Anyone on here have any good closing techniques for on the phone/email? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:03 AM PDT I recently started an account manager position at a digital marketing company. Today I was diagnosed with the flu/possible covid-19. I was informed I am not eligible for any leave or paid absence. What should I do? Work through the sickness or take unpaid time off. I am at a loss here. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:33 AM PDT Hi everyone, I used the SPIN technique a lot in my last job and found it very effective. In that job the service I was selling was to solve a particular problem that companies might be facing and I found the technique very good at helping to to identify the explicit needs of the client that our solution could help with. I'm far from a SPIN master, but found it a useful framework. In my new job I'm selling a service that most of the time is a gain maximiser for companies rather than a problem solver (we are selling our services to help them to export their products to a particular overseas market). As our solution is for companies that want to grow and seize an opportunity that they might not have even been considering before, rather than have a problem that they need fixing, I'm finding it harder to apply SPIN questioning to this. In short, is the SPIN technique as useful for selling 'gain maximising' rather than 'pain minimising' solutions? Any other thoughts of the topic would be most welcome! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
