Posted: 21 Mar 2020 04:47 AM PDT W-2 employee but I work 100% commission in state of MA. Covid is tanking our industry (elective surgery devices) and governor has essentially ceased business. No one is doing elective cases so no one is using our stuff. Therefore, no orders will be placed and next to no money will be generated. No plans from leadership to lay anyone off at this point but whoever is employed will not be making even a fraction of what they're used to. Is this grounds for application of unemployment? Would my employer be pissed if I applied? Does it burden them in any way? It's a small business so I know the owners well enough to be sensitive to their needs Should a sales person approach this any differently than an hourly employee? Any direction is appreciated. One of the policies we had was on Hellcat Chargers/Challengers. My Auto Group initially put out an internal policy that we would not allow any special orders and customers would have to select from our stock (which was very limited) and that was it. Now I know for a fact we could go to Chrysler and special order a Hellcat for a customer IF WE WANTED TOO. However, I got the feeling management didn't like the idea because they didn't want to order a $70k, $80k, $90k vehicle and then have the customer back out. But I had a well-qualified customer who really wanted a color we didn't have in stock, he was in no hurry to get it. In his words he said "I'm fine with your price, I want it in this color I do not care when it comes, it could be tomorrow it could be in 6 months" and it was a big objection of his. I tried to skip to our rule, but I finally thought "You know what, let's try something" So I went to the customer and I said "Would you be willing to show us a bank statement that you can pay for the car, give us a $5,000 cashiers check, and sign an agreement that says the $5,000 is non-refundable if you don't take delivery" MY customer only question was "Will my $5,000 go towards the car?" and of course it would, and the price would be a sticker which he was fine with. I said "Great, bring me in the bank statement and your $5,000 and I'll put in front of my GM face and give him the option of giving your check back" A customer came in, I went to my GM and I said "I need to order this hellcat, with those options, in this color, the customer will pay MSRP" my GM goes "We won't do special orders" I pulled out the $5,000 check addressed to our dealership and the bank statement which actually showed our customer could buy 3 of those hellcats if he wanted too and said "If you don't want to do the deal, then you can give the customer his money back and tell him no thank you" My GM looked at me, looked at the check, and said "You know the rule" I said "I do, now...are we going take this guys money and order the car or are we going give the money back" I could tell my GM was in no mood to give my customer his $5,000 check back...if you were a sales manager would you want to refund a willing customer's money back? My GM told me to give him some time (I figure he had to call up the chain) I went back to my customer and said "He hasn't said yes yet, but he hasn't said no" my customer said "That's fine I trust you guys I'm going back to work if you decide to do the deal cash the check and I'll sign whatever I need too if you don't want to do the deal shred it" (I've sold this guy multiple cars over the years he trusted us) Next day my GM is like "Fine we'll order the car but if we get an allocation and he cancels he's not getting his money back" and I said "That's fine" So we created an agreement that basically said Hellcat orders put down a $5,000 deposit, must show they can pay for the car on delivery and if we get an allocation (AKA the factory does the deal, which they might not) that money becomes non-refundable. If we can't get allocation we will give the money back. My customer agreed, and that's how my auto group changed their policy, because of that I've sold quite a few hellcats. When people were marking them up, we were willing to sell them for MSRP and special order. Our Auto Group policy is we will never sell a car above MSRP. All elective surgeries are pushed now, and sales are falling. All our cases have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. I am now worried that my company will lay off people, including me. We were doing extremely well up until this corona virus. Docs still use our products for emergent cases, but most of our high dollar new product requires us to be there, so they either push the surgeries to a later date, or use cheaper equipment for the same surgery. Is it a bad time to get a sales job (graduate) Posted: 21 Mar 2020 09:37 AM PDT I am living in sount england and hoping to move to London after I graduate (june/ July). due to the coronavirus pandemic + signs of an economic recession coming, I'm wondering if getting a good graduate sales role would even be an option. firstly, I'm thinking people are reducing their hiring procedure to save cost. secondly, I'm thinking even if I do land a job, after will I even be able to sell things when the economy is horrific and people arent willing to invest/ buy. I cant help but feel deflated like this is probably one of the worse times to graduate (not to mention uni has been cancelled in march, I will not get half of my lessons and I will not get a graduation ceremony). maybe I should go to Beijing to brush up on my manderin (I'm half Chinese so nearly fluent) then try and get a job after (Jan 2021) when the economy is a bit better? I was wondering if any of y'all have used direct mail as a way to reach your prospect. I was thinking of sending them hand sanitizer, toilet paper, or some sort of perishable item. I won't have their home address, but I do have their office and I know everyone will also be WFH. Will having a three-year Canadian bachelors hinder me? Posted: 21 Mar 2020 08:45 AM PDT My goal is to get into medical device sales. I don't mind working at no-name companies first though. I struggled with my biology major and thus opted for a 3 year major as opposed to a 4 year degree as the extra courses would result in me taking a fifth year. However, I think unfortunately I'm starting to realize that may have been a bad choice. While I work hard and am willing to put in the work for a fifth year if necessary, it was in hindsight the wrong degree for my cognitive profile but I do know that I have a gift for sales. Should I do a fifth year to get the standard four year degree or will a 3 year university bachelors degree suffice? A three year degree just requires less credits than a four year. One of the guys is a VP of Business Developments, and he changed up our compensation agreement. It requires us to get 60 Sales Opps which means that they're in forecast. So far, the ten Account Executives have 0 Opps in Stage 4 since January 1st excluding what our partners brought in. Another words, my colleagues and I have 0 here, but we should have about as a team about 35. I can't, with a clear conscience, sign this agreement. Moreover, they want us to have 120 Stage 2 Opps, which is also not attainable.

My friend got me in contact with the sales director of another company for a sales role but slightly different which I will prefer. I am due to speak with him over the phone this week. My confidence from this job has taken its toll as I have only managed 1 deal in my 6 months which I put that down to a lot of things from my time here which I won't go into now. I got a call from my boss Friday saying they really didn't want to let me go but they couldn't pay my base. He said I can stay on insurance, keep the company car, and we could work out a high commission structure. I don't think there'd be enough volume even if I was getting a high percentage of commissions as there's only a few placements lined up right now. My question is, would I be better off asking to be formally laid off so I can get on unemployment while I look for something else? Currently the company seems to be still pushing us to sell and make our usual number (roughly 12-14 deals this month) and telling us that in order to make up for this virus pandemic, we should just be dialing and calling even harder. I understand they have to say this, but they are gearing up to basically have us work through all of this, with no quota relief at all. Our compensation plan is a 40/60 split (base to commission) so making base alone isn't enough to cover all monthly expenses. We haven't been told whether we would even be paid our base salary should we shut down completely. Are any of you guys getting any sort of quota relief or reduction? Are they paying any guaranteed wages besides base salary? While I understand times are uncertain right now, the fact they are still keeping us in the dark as to what they will pay us should we go to a full shut-down is getting a bit concerning. So far its been going ok since we are focused on maintaining our clients, rather than being people trying to profit off this. We have actually been wanting to make this part of our standard operating practice anyway since it can take up to an hour to travel to a client. Can anyone recommend softwares we can use and the best practices we should look at? I have almost no exposure to this type of interaction apart from brief online meetings where we might do a introduction and demo a simple solution. I just dont think we know how to do this well. I've recently started cross checking accounts with SalesNav to see if I'm reaching out to the right person and crazily enough, roughly 70% of the time or more there's a better person to contact at the company than what DiscoverOrg has. Half of the accounts weren't even in Discover. Make sure you're checking LinkedIn and that you've got the best target at the account! [link] [comments] |
