Theoretically if you use a trading algorithm that brings net negative income, couldn’t you just inverse the buy/sell and it will become a net positive algorithm?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 04:53 PM PDT

So for example come up with the worst trading algorithm possible. Then modify it so that whenever the algorithm buys, then sell instead. Whenever it sells, then buy instead.

What would be wrong with this strategy?

Why do redditors use vanguard as their brokerage

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 08:33 AM PDT

I see a lot of "wsb gods" use vanguard as their weapon of choice for buying stocks, why's that?

What stocks are you keeping your eyes on this next week?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 10:56 PM PDT

I believe the market will have another downturn after the stimulus package has been passed, considering there's not anymore good news to look forward to awhile.

Are there some stocks that could be profitable throughout the week you're keeping your eye on? Or are you looking for the major dip and then loading up on cheap stocks?

What's the fate of mortgage REITs?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 12:04 PM PDT

I don't know much about them, but my friend bought GPMT and it went up 250%... great. I would call that a big basket of luck.

I think it's a bunch of BS and was thinking of buying puts. They currently have a dividend yield of 75% that I'm sure they won't be able to pay out, big time liquidity issues... Is there something I'm missing or is shorting a good plan?

Anyone think Ackman is already shorting again?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:27 AM PDT

I bet he's using the publicity of his recent "long " view of stocks that contributed to the bounce last week to establish more/new short positions. Using the sheeple for massive profit.

    Baozun (BZUN) long-term debt question

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 07:53 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm doing some research on investing during the market downturn/dip/decline and have been looking into composing a portfolio of diversified ETFs and some stocks which I believe could outperform the market (I know, a bold and speculative expectation).

I've been half-watching Baozun (the Chinese version of Shopify, ticker: BZUN) for a while now, and it's finally getting to a point where I feel like it's worth picking up some shares. However, while going through the financials, I noticed an oddity. During FY2019, they amassed roughly 1.8bn CNY in long-term loan liabilities, with the value of those increasing from 69m to 1.86bn (latest 6-K: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1625414/000110465920034974/tm2013090d1_ex99-1.htm)

The company did not repurchase any shares during the year as far as I can tell, and I really don't know why it felt it needed the capital infusion. It turns a profit and ended the year with an increase of 1bn CNY in cash.

Does anybody know if any big repurchases or investments are planned?

I'm probably missing something, so any pointers would be highly appreciated! Thanks

Reasoning behind this upcoming week being red or green?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 01:24 PM PDT

I don't think anyone expected all the points gained in the market last week, so we are people assuming the next week will be a huge loss in points? Why do people risk their money by guessing where the stock market will go in the short term? And why is that better than holding stocks for the long term where you can be more confident in your portfolio growing? I want to hear people's reasoning behind it. Not people telling me what I should and shouldn't do.

    Dividend Yielding Stocks

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 08:24 AM PDT

    Hello all,

Beginner question here, I want to invest in some stocks that yield some dividends to diversify my income. I have about $3,000 I'm willing to invest. Any tips/stocks you would recommend for a beginner? Also, I was going to use USAA for investing, any negative experiences using them?

    Thanks!

Any recommended reading to get into options and puts?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 09:31 AM PDT

Recommended reading for a novice trying to learn about puts and options?

Hey all, as the title says, I'm a total novice to trading. I've put about $100 into penny stocks that I think will bounce back well after the corona virus subsides.

With that said, I understand the earning potential of puts and options is much higher while riskier. I'd like to do some reading so that I may better understand how to invest in options and puts.

Any ideas or advice for a rookie?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 07:48 AM PDT

Watched "The Big Short" the other day and that was cool. Would be cool if there was a good doc on the 2008 crash or any crash prior. Im open to anything stock market or housing market related. Any recommendations? Thanks

What are some companies that might go bankrupt due to the coronavirus?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 12:22 PM PDT

COVID-19 came out of nowhere and many companies were not prepared to deal with something like this. Many companies were even barely surviving and taking huge amounts of debt. What are some big name companies that may not exist anymore after the pandemic slows down? I know some companies will get bailed out but not all of them will.

    Some of my thoughts:

    1. Gamestop
    2. JC Penney, Kohl's, & many other department stores
    3. Carnival Cruises (I don't think it will get bailed out or will even recover afterwards)
    4. Six Flags

Open-source collection of stock market tools, links, and resources

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 02:20 PM PDT

Hello! I'm working on compiling and organizing a list of all the stuff I've collected over the years as it relates to trading/investing/stocks/options...tools, resources, links, videos, books, whatever. I've got a TON of stuff, and this is by no means complete, but please check it out and if you have anything to add and would like to contribute, feel free to make a pull request! In particular, it's been a very long time since I started so it'd be great if we could get some more modern/up to date "getting started" guides/tutorials/video series/whatever, and maybe some better stuff on technical and fundamental analysis.

On that note, this thread gave me the idea to add some movies/docs to the list as well so I've done that just now as well as added some that I knew of!

If you don't know how to do a pull request, just reply here with what you think should be added and what you use it for and I'll add things that I might have missed or simply don't know about.

Thanks and hopefully everyone finds it useful and it can grow even bigger/better!

Edit: Maybe I should have added the link. Lol updated

Stocks that have dropped the most?

First timer. Looking to spend $500-$1000 need guidance.

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 09:08 AM PDT

So ive been trying to learn a little bit about the Market but i haven't bought any stocks yet. With the market dropping due to the Corona virus it seems like a good time to invest in a few things. Ive had my eye on a few like Disney, ford, Twitter and WWE they all seem pretty safe to increase after everything returns to normal. Just looking for some guidance to make some good choices and maybe a good App to use to watch stocks

Hello all. New to the game and just curious to see what approaches ppl have taken to be the positions they are currently in right now, when it comes trading on the stock market. Do have a degree, did you find a mentor, watch YouTube and research the web or just learnt as you went.

    Happy trading.

    My favorite dividend ETF

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 01:28 PM PDT

A friend of mine introduced me to DVY

    The iShares Select Dividend ETF

It tracks the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index (Ticker: DJDVY)

100 solid companies with year-on-year dividend growth

among the top holdings are T, KO, GIS, QCOM.

Current yield is around 5.1% and the fund itself usually compares or beats the S&P500, it's a solid add if you're looking for some dividend cash flow.

I buy one share every single week.
