PSA: There are now widespread immediate manufacturing needs for COVID health care workers. If you can, consider helping.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 10:29 AM PDT

There are now growing shortages of a variety of health care necessities in the US and elsewhere. Many of us are shut down but those of us who manufacturer may be able to direct our work to help the effort to save lives.

    • Look first to existing local organizations coordinating on this. DON'T burden health care workers with new requests or the work necessary to coordinate your contribution. Check for announcements like this near you: https://uihc.org/kind-donations or find organizations already working to help.

    • Don't plan to profiteer. The idea is to keep people alive, not for you to make a few bucks and permanently destroy your reputation. See someone doing that? Report them to appropriate authorities - and remember who they are. You don't want to do business with someone like that next year or the years after.

    • Expect needs to change fast and unpredictably. What you contribute should help but don't get bent out of shape if it doesn't. Just contribute something else. Technology is going to change fast too. The things you make one by one today may be made by the hundred tomorrow. That doesn't mean you shouldn't make them now.

    • Every bit helps - providing it doesn't cost more to collect/sanitize/distribute than it helps. Working through existing organizations/systems instead of going directly should help with this.

    Examples of contribution:

Face shields: 3d printing community, Prusa, @MasksForDocs

Surgical masks, isolation gowns, sanitizer, everything: some bigger companies (Harbor Freight, Tesla,

The CDC is providing information on conserving PPE here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/ppe-strategy/index.html

If you have contributed please comment below. We should recognize the businesses that help!

Do NOT give advice for people asking for help if it’s not your area of expertise

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 01:12 AM PDT

I keep seeing posts from people asking for very specific types of industries, specifically food manufacturing, and I see threads of pure bullshit and armchair speculation. All this does is slow down the OP and gives bad information. Stop it.

I don't know the first thing about manufacturing motherboards in China, so why the hell would I comment? Better to not post a response than to make shit up.

This community is better than that. Let's be supportive but stop guessing or making things up.

    Seriously.

If people could browse products in local inventory would they use more local businesses?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 05:58 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I have been trying to come up with ideas to make local businesses compete better against online rivals.

If you use E-commerce frequently, have you felt that a similar browsing experience (app) for products or services locally available would encourage you to shop locally?

Think of an Amazon like app, but all the products or services are selling near you (some distance you specify). You can put items to a cart and pick up from the store or book appointment for a service.

I know it does not cover the whole experience of simply buying something online and get it delivered to you. But it could encourage social discovery. I see what is selling near me, see who is selling, see how many have been to that store, reviews etc. Just like the online experience. And tons of people window-shop all the time online, why not do for local.

What do you feel? Thanks for any input

Opinions - length of shutdown for Events Industry

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 04:05 AM PDT

I'm trying to collect as many opinions as possible on this. I have medium size tenting and events business - sports, weddings, corporate, and we carry a large university contract. I'm 100% shutdown for the next 4-5 weeks so far and anticipate this stretching out much further. My business thrives on gathering people together in groups of 150-750.

Eventually things will open back up but will my industry be the very last? I have asked a lot of people. A few said my industry would come back even stronger. The majority said it would come back but slow. A couple said it was dead until this virus is dead and even then would be different, possibly regulated, because of a new virus threat. What does everyone think?

Very popular trashcan cleaning company just added pressure washing onto their services. Im afraid theyre going to run me out of business. Dead serious...

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 05:32 PM PDT

Hello. I own a pressure washing and window cleaning company. there is a VERY popular trash can cleaning company in my town that everyone really adores... not going to lie their social media status is top notch. They are EXTREMELY personal. Post live videos of their kids, them at farmers markets, etc. they have done an incredible job of trying to look like they are "part of the community". I just saw on a social media post that they have added ALL the same services i offer (besides window cleaning)... theyre going to be cleaning houses (soft washing), roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, EVERYTHING pressure washing related.

I am extremely nervous about this... just this week i have had 4.5k worth of work canceled/rescheduled(?) and now they are doing pressure washing... their is only 1-2 other really popular pressure washing companies in my small (but growing) town/city. theres a ton of unlicensed/uninsured guys who do this parttime/side money but this is my livlihood. I havent even been in business 5 years. Honestly im shocked but i almost knew this was going to happen... i follow all the popular companies related to my industry and i saw them hinting about it. I just cant believe it happened... fuck me. I dont wish them any ill will but i cant let them take over.

Audio, Video, Lighting, Staging Business Owners, how are you doing?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 05:26 AM PDT

Hello my fellow small business owners, I wanted to reach out to the Audio and Video world to see how you guys were doing, would love to hear about what you are doing during your downtime, and share some plans for when you come back to life.

I am based in the South East USA and have been doing large concert events and corporate events for about 30 years, kinda blindsided by the lack of work. I have had some success setting up a few small live streams for local churches, I am re-evaluating my inventory determining what I can sell and what I spin-off as side rental business when things come back. What are you guys doing to survive right now?

How to start an ice cream business?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 06:31 PM PDT

Not sure if this is the right subreddit for it but basically I have created all the ice cream recipes and am just missing the business part of it. I do not know how to start at all. I know it is going to be a big and long process. I want my ice cream to be sold in supermarkets (not opening a shop). I know I can figure out the branding, logos, containers etc but what I am worried about is the legal aspect of it. Do I need to have my ice cream approved as safe for consumption? What about the nutritional facts etc.

I am so lost and would be so grateful for any advice or suggestions! Thank you!

Ps. Forgot to mention I live in Massachusetts

I'm out of work and am trying to help keep my dads mattress stores from closing.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 10:48 AM PDT

The old man has two mattress stores. They sell the usual mattresses, motion bases, headboards, beds, pillows, sheets, mattress protectors, etc.

They haven't seen a customer in 13 days. We understand that bed buying is not a priority for most people right now, but we can't just quit.

We've redirected any marketing funds to digital/social media. I came up with a "Buy a Bed and get Fed promo" where we buy delivery/take-out with any mattress. Updated his website with "no-hands delivery" options.

Just curious if anyone has any suggestions? Sorry to pander, but I really want to do what I can. I'm a chef, so I don't have a ton of business experience.

    Thanks

Is it mandatory to create a bank account for newly registered LLC if it is not operational yet and plans to start in 1-2-3 years?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 01:38 AM PDT

    Hello,

I am not a citizen of the US and I live outside of the US. I consider registering an LLC in USA for my future startup (that is kind of on an MVP stage now). I want to register LLC today for the growing in future but not opening a bank account (since there will be no operations for a certain period).

So, the question is: can I have an LLC registered without a bank account for a while? Will it be shutdown by govt if there is no operations for come period of time? Can I open a business account for the LLC after say 1-2-3 years (who knows) from the time the LLC was registered and then start the actual operating business?

    Thank you

$12K Unpaid Service Payments of Restaurants Closed due to Covid19

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 01:27 AM PDT

I own a commercial cleaning business and shutdowns went super fast last week. From 2 restaurants, they owe me $12000.00 Obviously I have to be careful not to piss off these businesses or (the bosses) because when they open I still want their business.

On the days they shut down I respecfully but urgently asked to be paid in full telling the bosses that I dont have the money to pay my employees before they get laid off. (But ofcourse I paid them in full already) that $12K is basically all mine after all expenses are paid.

Im looking to follow up on them mid this week.

    My questions:

Should I be worried at all??

What should I do so I can collect all of it before (/if) the economy hits really hard?

And what actions should I do in the coming weeks if they still have the cheques for me this week?

Btw this companies are large business. One owned by a corporation and the other is family owned but they own a few big businesses in the city.

Reaching out to small business owners. Is it genuine to buy data from third-parties?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 12:55 AM PDT

    Hi -

Intro: We are a start-up with a product built with small-medium business in focus. The product is a slack based bot that can help small businesses using SaaS applications (apps accessible over internet) to connect and run day-to day operations tasks through simple button clicks.

Help wanted: We want to engage with SMB organization owners from US. Is there a publicly available sources through which we can get this information. Some marketing organizations approached us to sell the details of SMB. Not sure if it will be worth to buy them. Any suggestion is appreciated.

    Regards,

    Chandra, dot2Globe Solutions.

My state has moved to a shelter in place order, my workers should be considered essential but need some kind of documentation proving so?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 06:44 PM PDT

Hi - I have a dog walking and pet care business in Michigan and today our governor issued executive orders to shelter in place until April 13.

We had already reduced to only essential visits, and by essential visits, I mean we're basically only serving our clients who are working at the hospitals right now, or are otherwise unable to care for their own pets (illness/injury).

Per the order: "Consistent with sections 8 and 9, businesses and operations must determine which of their workers are critical infrastructure workers and inform such workers of that designation. Businesses and operations must make such designations in writing, whether by electronic message, public website, or other appropriate means."

I'm not sure what kind of documentation to give them. A text message or email seems flimsy, but the order lists electronic message as an option.

Has anyone else dealt with us? Do you have an example of what kind of documentation you're providing for your workers?

    Thanks in advance!

SO is contract Dental Assistant, do we need protection? (Texas)

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 05:03 PM PDT

My wife has started working for a dentist in Texas as an on contract licensed dental assistance. My main concern is if something went wrong would she be on her own as far as liability is concerned? I am thinking of starting an LLC myself for a side business cleaning aircraft and vehicles. Could I add her to the LLC in some way to help cover us both?

I have a fintech business idea. I would appreciate if I could receive some feedback on this idea, how I can improve it, if you like the idea, and if you would use this.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:50 PM PDT

I have a business idea for a site/app where you can rent out, rent, buy, sell, & auction, day trading bots. How it works is a user would put up their trading bot to rent for a daily/ weekly/ monthly/ or even yearly rental price or sale price for a user to rent or buy. Before buying or renting the trading bot users can test it out in a simulation that pretty much simulates how the bot will perform. When creating a listing a user puts a description of the bot and what it does, the type of bot, average daily return rate (as a percentage), and the price the bot is being rented out or sold at. Pretty much think of it as something similar to amazon but for buying & selling trading bots. Please let me know what you think and if you would use this. Thank you for reading!

    Anyone using Slack?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:20 AM PDT

I'm interested in some of the features of Slack, particularly the ability to send messages from a computer. I'm a real estate agent and my team (6 people) texts a lot on our group thread - it would be great if a) we could use a browser interface, b) it was done over a data connection as texts can be unreliable, c) we could uses tags, etc. to organize things. Is anyone using Slack to keep in touch with their employees, particularly coordinating among small groups that work together?

New York state sales tax penalty

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 07:56 PM PDT

I own a small business, run just by myself. I opened it towards the end of 2019 and just filled my quarterly sales tax with the state. However, I thought that the date was pushed back in New York because of covid-19.i did not make any sales, but It says I owe a $50 penalty because I missed the date by three days. I did not pay electronically on the spot because I've been reading that all late fees are being waved. Is this the case and should I do anything differently? Any help.is appreciated.

    Buying out a partner

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 07:36 PM PDT

Two years ago I bought a business with a partner. We each owned 50%, and we've split profits evenly. A few months back his life situation changed, and he wanted out. We agreed to an amicable buyout, got a lawyer, drafted a new operating agreement, and he sold his 50% share to me. Easy.

Now here's the question. We obtained an SBA loan to finance the initial purchase. Of course he wants to be removed from any debt obligations, so are there any options other than me refinancing the entire loan in my name? Any idea how the bank would approach this?

Would like to use a business name that is in use by a company multiple states away. How big of a deal is it?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 01:56 PM PDT

The company operates in 4 states on the east coast while we're in the Midwest. They have revenue of around $6.6 million. They let their trademark on the name expire in 2019, and have no registrations in Missouri, where we are. If we want to expand our business to surrounding states, how big of a deal is this?
