LLC: Registered Agent address vs my home address?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 06:51 PM PST

I am forming an LLC for a side business from my home. I hired a company to act as my registered agent for privacy reasons -- I don't want my home address on public record with the LLC. I am reviewing the Articles of Organization before submitting and I noticed it lists the Registered Agent address but at the bottom it says "ORGANIZER", it lists my name and home address and below that it says FILED BY and has the same info, my name and home address. I am trying to check that neither of those 2 areas are what is associated with the LLC. I attached a screenshot of it here with the areas my address appeared cropped out: https://imgur.com/a/ubxYj6M

How did you grow your business?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 03:36 PM PST

About a year ago, I started [The Penn Group](www.thepenn.group) which is a cybersecurity consulting company.

Over the past 12 months, the business has been a mix of a smashing success and a epic failure. We have had a mix of clients, and have made money, but we need to continue to drive momentum. Trust me when I say, we've tried all the usual sales tactics: cold calling, content generation, connection events, business coaches, etc.

Would love to hear your thoughts on how to grow the company.

How would you tell your employee to listen better and work faster?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 08:31 PM PST

I have a new hire coming up on their first month and honestly it hasn't been the greatest. The only good thing is if I ask them to do something, they'll do it (which is probably the minimum requirement for an employee I feel). Their job is pretty much cleaning and restocking supplies.

Sometimes we have rush jobs and they will clean sloooow as hell even though I tell them to make it quick, it doesn't have to be spotless. I have to constantly remind them to go faster and not to worry about the tiny things, and ultimately have to help them finish.

Additionally, when I have them restock things, they keep getting the number of items wrong, and it's not a lot of stuff to remember at all. After they restock supplies, I'll double check their work and probably 30% of the time it's wrong (too much or too little). It's a bad look to have a client tell you you're shorting them, or when you give too much you can't take it back, so it could cost me money (it doesn't right now because I literally double check everything they do, but I shouldn't have to). I've noticed that when they don't understand an objective, they just ignore it.

The final cherry on top is that they are going into things they should not be. The first week I saw them going through my personal laptop to see the schedule for the day (but why are you touching my laptop without asking to begin with?). I told them I would let them know the schedule and to not worry about it but caught them doing it again the next week.

I'm going to have a sit down with them next week to go over these issues, and want to know how you guys would address it to them? I wanted to start with a compliment on their work before I go into it so it's not like I'm bashing them the whole time, but honestly I can't think of any. They just need to be faster and more attentive. I feel like they are just doing OK enough to the point where it almost isn't worth it to fire them and go through the whole hiring/training process again.

How do you handle a recession?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 07:18 AM PST

Hello fellow business owners. Im looking to have a discussion with fellow SMB owners, particularly those in the restaurant industry. Im curious if anyone here has been through a recession? Im sure your aware of the recent Market volatility and the 10+ years since our last market downturn. So im hoping to get some insights from those who have survived (or not) a recession.

I know they are all different, and can affect the markets differently. But what did you experience? How did you survive? What are some tips you would give?

Currently i already have developed a business recession plan, on how to handle various percentage drops in sales (i.e. what we do if we see a 10%, 20%, etc.). From cutting hours and products to offering new menu or vaule items. At the moment im not worried, as our YTD growth is 20%, and both Jan & Feb saw year kver year growth of 40% and our Gross revenue has grown by roughly 300% since we purchased in 2015. ( 160k to 530k). Our local market is also in the middle of heavy gentrification, and the larger metro (Reno) has experienced significant diversification in the local economy since 2008 ( a HUGE increase in warehouse and Manufacturing, particularly Telsa/Panasonic).

But i would love to create a discussion and see what other people do in tough times. Thank you everyone in advice for the information and advice.

Should Trademarking come first? The logo or the Name of the business

    Focus on cash flow?

Work on sales and production of out products?

    Marketing?

Our company is a fashion brand. For trademarking is the Madrid protocol nessecary? We are in the uk! Thank you for listening

I dissolved an LLC should I keep or close unused Bank and CC accounts?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 12:48 PM PST

Any reason to keep non active Credit or Bank accounts open?

I had an LLC that served as my primary income for several years.

Over the last couple of years I transitioned to a full time employment position with a new company and last year dissolved my LLC.

On the LLC side I had taken care of all final payment and tax liabilities.

However, I still have a business account at my credit union with a $0 balance and a corporate Credit Card with a $0 balance open as well. I was going to close these, but wanted to see if there is any reason to keep them open - like if I decided in the future to reopen my LLC?

In talks about buying a business, does this seem like a red flag?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 10:57 PM PST

I got the financial statement for 2018 and he's still working on 2019 with his cpa. I asked for 2017 revenue because I am meeting my cpa soon to try and value the business. Both revenues for 2017 and 2018 are at 87k with only about a $300 difference. It's a residential services business with very few regular accounts and alot of variables that I assume can increase or decrease the sales a fair amount. It feels very suspicious to me that both years ended up the same.

To add to the confusion he runs his wife's commissions through the corporation, so the total revenue is about 115k but he has them broken up separate on the financial statement.

I still plan on doing due diligence and trying to match bank statements to his stated revenue. Am I being paranoid?

    Commercial title loan assistance

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 05:47 PM PST

I run a small trucking company that have 2 drivers that depend on me finding accounts to keep the trucks full and busy. Long story short my insurance renewal of 7k came out earlier than expected. I have 2 Freightliner 9car carriers I can use 1 as title loan collateral. I would need a 6mth 15k loan or 12mth 25k loan based off a truck valued at over 70k used value on truck paper dot com

Any leads on loans? That don't involve pawn shop because I still need the truck to keep producing. Thanks I'll appreciate any help or leads.

    Business S-corp tax filing

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 07:03 PM PST

    Hey Guys,

I know I need to file business tax forms by march 15th, a month earlier than person filing, so my questions are what forms should I file? Does that have both state and federal components like the personal one? How easy is it to file myself? Or what software do u recommend otherwise?

This year's pretax revenue in same bank account as last year's post tax profit

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 05:24 PM PST

    Hello All, first post here.

I co own a small business. We're going into year two. I'll try to keep this simple... all revenue goes into business checking. Last year we transferred over about $10k into a money market account and had about $6k in our checking on Dec 31, 19. We paid ourselves, say, $30k by transferring money from business checking to personal checking. We'd each set aside 30% into a tax account every time we paid ourselves. The money left over was split among us in the eyes of the government for tax purposes and we paid taxes on everything for last year but still have money sitting in our business checking from last year, mixed with income from this year that we haven't paid ourselves yet, thus meaning it's pretax. It's messy, I know... we're a young, very profitable company but we should be doing things differently when it comes to where money goes, how we pay ourselves. Anyways, we have an account with money that we paid taxes on and money that we've earned this year that we haven't paid taxes on. How would we go about figuring out "how money post tax money we have to spend that we don't have to set 30% aside?" I hope this question makes sense, taking a wild guess that some of you might want more information to give me insightful answers. I just don't want to blindly set aside 30% on money I've already paid taxes on. Help! And thanks!

How to get my freelance illustration business up and running with Instagram?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 04:28 PM PST

I do an illustration or two a week for a smaller newspaper and recently another newspaper (a big one!) contacted me on Instagram and I did a piece for them.

I want to create a separate illustration business account for my work so that this can happen more often, however I don't know how to get started. I started one awhile ago but it barely had 50 followers whilst my personal had 100 so I just gave up on that one and kept posting to my personal.

I want to grow my account fast and not wait a year for 100 followers. Also I want real followers interested in my work rather than family and friends. How do I do this?

My gf is starting a craft business and is overwhelmed (UK)

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 03:29 PM PST

My gf isn't on reddit and isn't particularly research savvy, so I'm here for advice that I can pass on to her. She's at the very beginning stage of starting a craft business, mainly focusing on soaps and candles, but does other things like clay sculptures and earrings, and is struggling about what to do on the legal side of things, does she need some kind of insurance? Does she need to put ingredients on soaps and candles? If anyone knows of any posts on here that have all the answers on how to start a craft business that would be great, or in anyone just has the answers I'd really appreciate it!

What is a good place to share an album and products?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 03:14 PM PST

    Hi all, first time poster.

So I am starting my own little thing and I was wondering what you recommend as an online space kinda thing where people can visit, browse the general services (no online shop necessary) and see pictures of past customers experiencing the service. Basically that.

Is instagram good for that? I never really used it. I could make a website from scratch but that is a lot of work and maintanance and doesn't have the familiarity of interface factor.

    Thank you for your help!

Can anyone recommend software that creates a contract for your business?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 02:59 PM PST

I'm not even sure if this exists but... I've been operating for a while now without contracts for my clients and I decided it's time to take the next step. Is there a tool out there where you can input your information and what you'd like to cover then it creates a contract for you? That would be amazing. Thanks guys! I see a few online but, had anyone used one of these?

I'm having trouble finding affordable internet for a really small business

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 02:18 PM PST

Hello everyone, thank you in advance for your time.

I am in the finishing stages of opening up a very small sports card store/MTG store. Of course it has been a very fun, challenging, and learning process along the way. Right now the next thing on my to-do list is to get some internet for the store.

The issue that I am running into is the crazy price differences between residential and business internet, I actually have a few providers in my area but all the cheapest plans start at $60 which is a bit more than I can be paying to start with. What hurts is that charter has a plan for that area for $18 a month but its residential.

the business internet is 200mbs dl speed and the residential is 30mbs speeds. So what Im kinda urked about is that I only want the internet to do ebay sales and watch youtube so I dont understand why just because Im a commercial location I have to pay for way more than what i need, shouldnt it just be based on how much speed and data you need?

I have looked into buying a hotspot device and paying for a service that way but I cant find anything under 45$ a month that way. supposedly At&T had a 29.99 unlimited dataconnect pass that you could use with a hotspot device and now I cant find that and they want like 50$ a month for that now.

does anyone have any ideas on a workaround for getting residential price at my location? is there anyway i can do the setup or something so no one comes out and sees it is a commercial location?

oh and that 18$ plan does come up as available when i type the address in and search but when im filing out the form to order it they ask if i have lived there for more than a year haha.

would i maybe be able to tell them its zoned for commercial and residential? there is a office room i could make look like a studio apartment type room but of course there is no kitchen lol. Im trying to think of anything.

    thank you again!

What's the right (or best) way to find contact info for a competitors community?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 02:02 PM PST

Specifically, if your product or service is solving a slightly different problem than your competitor (or is solving a problem that people have with that competitors product), how do you gather contact info for the people in their community? Is the name of the game to voice your solution in said community? Or is there a more effective way to reach out to them? Hope this question makes sense, happy to clarify.

    Verizon Push-To-Talk+ vs Sprint DirectConnect+

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 10:35 AM PST

These are the newest PTT solutions from these two carriers, having rolled out within the last 3 years.

I have a client using Verizon that we are looking to switch them Sprint (saving a boatload of money in the process) but I was wondering if anyone used both. TBH I think they are the same thing either way burr I don't know enough about both equally to make that assumption.
