I Tattooed My Loan Balance on My Leg Posted: 22 Mar 2020 05:59 PM PDT So exactly 8 months ago, I had a stupid and crazy idea to tattoo my current (at the time) student loan balance. Yes, that reads $117,395.24. Just for my undergrad from a private university. My thinking was that this would motivate me to get it out of my life as quickly as possible, then cover it up with something better. Because of that, I've been looking to sources like Dave Ramsey and Student Loan Hero to find advice on how to pay them off faster. Now 8 months (and 4 more tattoos) later, I've got that number down to $97,993.11. It's still a long ways to go, but it's progress! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Mar 2020 03:21 PM PDT I just paid my balance for this month, but I'm still wondering if I should consider the non-interest 60 day forbearance. Will it basically pause payments? And the REAL question... Is there a catch to this all? [link] [comments] |
So happy about the 0% interest Posted: 22 Mar 2020 07:40 AM PDT I have like 138k in student loans, I refinanced half to private loans in January. Even though, now getting 0% interest for minimum of 2 months will help me drop an extra $600 towards principal. What are the chances of continued 0% after two months? Hopefully this stays permanent. Loans through MyFedLoan (FedLoan Servicing) - How to request 60 day suspension Posted: 22 Mar 2020 07:19 PM PDT Link for Reference: https://accountaccess.myfedloan.org/ I was unable to find any other threads that attempted to walk through the steps needed to request the suspension outlined in the pinned post at the top of this subreddit. Has anybody done this, or does anyone have information? I'm looking to assemble a step-by-step guide for others! I plan on calling tomorrow. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Mar 2020 06:14 AM PDT I tried searching for this post but didn't find it. Sorry if this seems like an obvious question. I have 2 federal student loans totaling 27k. I have aggressively paid more each month and my month statement states I do not have to make a payment until March 2022. Does this mean I can just stop my autodraft at this point? Do I still need to make my minimum payment? Will interest still accrue while I am not paying (I know it won't for the current 60 day period). Essentially I will be having a reduction of income 2/2 the economy right now and may be at risk for losing my job. I tried calling but I was not able to talk to anyone. Thank you. [link] [comments] |

Heartland loan payoff not reflecting on my credit report or balance? Posted: 22 Mar 2020 07:41 PM PDT When I first started paying them off, the guy on the phone at Heartland ECSI (my servicer for Perkins loan) said it only will reflect on my credit report after I've been paying it off for 6 months. This will be month 7, and my credit report is still reflecting a missed payment every month. 7 months of missed payments have brought my credit score down almost 50 points!! I've tried challenging it with Transunion and Equifax to no avail. I do have a receipt and bank statements reflecting the $600 I pay each month to Heartland, which is half of my monthly paycheck! What should I do? By the way I never signed a promissory note for this loan, but I don't want it to keep negatively affecting my credit. [link] [comments] |
Question on requesting forbearance Posted: 22 Mar 2020 03:37 PM PDT Hi, I wanted to know what the consequences were for applying for forbearance? I'm currently taking a year off and can't make payments, so if I request forbearance through Navient, what the future hold? Sorry if I'm not using terminology correctly. Thanks in advance! Posted: 22 Mar 2020 03:26 PM PDT I'm $5,800 short of aid for fall semester. Discover and Sallie Mae didn't approve my applications because I don't have a cosigner. I'm an independent student and an adult and don't have anyone to co-sign for me. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
Student loan forgiveness for teachers? Posted: 22 Mar 2020 12:00 PM PDT I'm not sure if this should be posted in the teachers' subreddit but here I go. I have about $115k in student debt and by the time I'm done with my masters in teaching I'll be probably $135k+. This makes me sick to my stomach but I was dumb and went to a private university for four years and nobody explained student debt to me when I was 17 and decided I was going to this school and no one could stop me. But anyway, I'm going to be a music teacher in a state that's in the top 3 highest paying states for teachers, so I'm not worried about my income per say. I know it's a high number but I am also positive that it won't ruin my life. I hear about loan forgiveness for teachers all the time but am not sure about any of the programs. Does anyone know of any they could share with me? Again I'm not a core subject teacher so that excludes probably a lot of options, but I'm getting double certified to teach English which might benefit me in the future (as much as I'd rather teach music). Any advice helps! [link] [comments] |
Why are my FFELP loans still showing an interest rate of 3.8%???? Posted: 22 Mar 2020 09:03 AM PDT I thought federal loans were changed to 0%??? Oh, and even though my due date is today, I received a number of "past due" notices from Navient. [link] [comments] |
Not another 0% interest question (but it is) Posted: 21 Mar 2020 08:22 PM PDT Sorry to disappoint, but... Checked with Navient, and some of my loans are set to 0% interest (those held by the DOE) and others are at their "normal" interest rate (those held by Navient, though they are federal loans). Does it make more sense to switch my payment allocation to focus on those still accruing interest, or those now at 0% interest? Or leave things as they are? (FWIW - I'm on a low monthly IBR plan but pay more per month when I can across all loans). TIA. [link] [comments] |
