Got a new job. Can I keep my old insurance? Posted: 04 Mar 2020 05:20 AM PST I'm in texas. I got a new job after working with my old company for 4 years. I haven't actually quit, I just went to part time. My insurance is 400$ a month for my kid and I and wont pay for anything until I reach the deductible of 13,500$. The old insurance doesnt pay for anything either but its 160$ a month. My old job is telling me they cant take my insurance away due to federal law and as long as I work enough to cover the insurance premiums I can keep the insurance. I can't find any proof of that on-line. I dont want to miss my enrollment date and then have my old insurance taken away due to faulty info. Does anyone know where to find this info? And is a 13k dollar deductible normal? They wont even cover any meds or doctors visits until I reach what amounts to over 1k a moth in medical expenses. [link] [comments] |
Wife accidentally enrolled in Healthcare Marketplace. Need help! Posted: 04 Mar 2020 07:13 AM PST My wife was shopping for health insurance last year. She accidentally enrolled without her understanding in the healthcare marketplace with the government. We purchased healthcare from a private provider for the same time period because we didn't want the coverage from the government. She was unaware she had coverage through the marketplace and received a 1095-A for this coverage claiming she was covered all year last year and that they paid her premiums for her. I can imagine this is going to greatly affect our taxes. We called the marketplace to see what could be done to no avail. Do we have any options to rectify this situation or are we stuck? Do Claim Checks, or The Possibility of Receiving Payment for a Claim Expire? Posted: 04 Mar 2020 06:21 AM PST I have an interesting situation. A friend of mine, who's a grown adult with a well paying career, ended up in an accident and was issued a claim check for his car a little under 1 year ago. However, he's been unable to cash this check due to not being in communication with a family member who cosigned for the car several years ago. The family member has never put any money towards the car, and he eventually paid the car completely off on his own. Allstate says that they cannot issue a check where my friend could not cash it without the family member present. This seems absurd to me, but whatever. My issue is, he states that the check does not expire, and refuses to call the insurance company and ask them this question. Don't ask me why, he's a little... odd. There's nothing I can do about that. I state that there's no way that he doesn't give up rights to that payment at some point, because that makes no sense to me. However, I literally cannot find any information at all regarding this on Allstates website, and really I can't even seem to dig up information about someone being in such a situation on Reddit or anything. Can someone help me out here with some information, a link to policies on this sort of thing, or anything? Thank you so much. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Mar 2020 06:21 AM PST Home owners claim was denied after their engineer verified the damage but "couldn't determine when it occurred" so they (not the engineer) claim it was from before we bought the home. I had another specialist inspect and verify that there's no way too determine when it occurred. How does one deal with a grey area such as this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Mar 2020 05:50 AM PST Someone rear ended me at a light. Not the worst accident ever but enough damage that I'd like to have it fixed. I didnt realize though, that I needed more than just the other person's insurance card. I dont have their license or plate, but I have the insurance card. A picture of it anyway. Can I still file a claim? What's the play [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:02 PM PST Long story short, insurance called today about a claim. I have a long term one pending and they did not identify that this one was new. I let it go past me. After the 2nd call though, this time from an adjuster who still didn't recognize it herself as a new claim, I checked online and yep— somehow someone has claimed an accident happened which never did. I cannot see any details but the claimant's name at this time. At that point, adjusters had left for the day (the gecko people) but I was able to contact a customer service person who noted my account and sent my adjuster an email about the fraudulent claim. I reported the fraud to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, but it was mostly to make me feel better since the adjuster had left for the day when I discovered the fraudulent claim. Has anyone had any help or luck there? I am stumped how they would be able to prey on me, my insurance card is digital. In any case, anyone else been through something like this? Thanks for reading, and for your help. [link] [comments] |
[NC] Is the roofer trying to scam me? Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:04 PM PST State: NC Homeowner's insurance - Replacement Cost Value Policy Insurance company: Starts with [Am]azon, Ends with Er[ica] Filed a claim after a recent storm, insurance company approved the claim and deposited $15k in my checking account. Replacement Cost Value: $17k Actual Cash Value: $15k Depreciation / Holdback: $2k Deductible: $1k Questions: 1) A stormchaser roofer wants to see the estimate, offers to "help get the holdback" likely using invoicing tricks, waive my deductible, and get other items fixed for the house. What are the consequences of taking up this deal?
2) Should I share the estimate with a roofer?
3) I'm assuming the right thing to do is to requests multiple quotes, choose a reputable roofer and repair it at a reasonable cost. Is this the recommended path?
4) If the costs of the repairs from a reputable roofer comes under the Replacement Cost Value, would the insurance company ask for the remaining money back? Would I still get the depreciation/holdback check if the repairs are completed at a cost under the insurance company's estimated RCV?
5) Would claiming the holdback increase my future premiums? I will be shopping around for quotes before renewal.
6) Anything else I need to know?
First time insurance claim. Would appreciate your advice. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Questions about Check I received in the mail Posted: 04 Mar 2020 12:24 AM PST So long story short, I was rear ended and we both had insurance, it was the other gals fault. My car was fixed immediately and I didn't pay anything. Progressive (my insurance) handled everything so well I didn't do anything or pay anything, I received doctor appts, chiropractor, acupuncture and massage for about 6 months and never paid a dime. Recently the insurance company (State Farm, not my insurance company) called and asked if I was done with treatment and I said yes and that I wasn't gonna get a lawyer or anything. I wanted to settle. Today, I received a check for $3,700 saying "Coverage description: Personal Injury Protection Subrogation" its made out on behalf of me. When I log onto my Progressive app, under the claim's Payout Summary I see Total Personal Injury Protection Payout for myself" Is this check mine or is it money I have to forward to my insurance company for what they paid for my bills that weren't their responsibility? Sorry I'm a little confused to how this works. The number of the check from the other insurance matches the amount posted on my app from my insurance company. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Mar 2020 02:16 AM PST I am not really sure. I think the accident happened today or yesterday. It should either be at where I parked at my home or at Mcdonland parking lot. I only found it when I was returning to my car at the Mcdonland parking lot. What should I do? But at the time I found it, there were no bodies and no note. Thank you for answering. Insurance for Dog Bites/Damage Posted: 03 Mar 2020 05:34 AM PST My workplace says that if I want to bring my dog to work, I have to carry at least 1 million in insurance for any damage or bites. How do I get that? Who provides dog damage insurance? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2020 09:33 PM PST Question for the more experienced auto damage adjusters and those in insurance. Got a call the other day: Claimant vehicle was in an accident with policy holder. It was our policy holder's fault. Claimant got an estimate with us. Claimant took his car to other shops and was told it was about double the amount. Claimant wants a check for the higher amount. Both myself, and according to the notes, multiple other people explained whatever body shop he takes it to can submit supplements. Claimant is refusing that, and was hostile. Said he wanted a check made out to him for the higher amount. And that of we didn't write that check he would sue our policy holder. In your experience, will he end up getting the check after he complains some more? Has already been escalated above the supervisor since the claimant wouldn't take 'No' from him either. What is most likely to happen/be said to the claimant? Edit to add: Florida [link] [comments] |
Renters Insurance: Geico now uses Lemonade? Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:29 PM PST I'm looking for a rental insurance policy by this upcoming weekend. I've heard a lot about Lemonade and haven't heard many negative reviews but i have heard they can be hard to reach so I'm debating between Lemonade ($5/mo) or Liberty Mutual ($15/mo). I was looking at Geico and now Geico redirects you to Lemonade where it says Lemonade is Geico's rental insurance partner. If I get a policy from Lemonade w/ Geico vs. Lemonade by itself, do I have any benefit from going through Geico's Lemonade? Does it give me better guarantees or support in case of a claim as Geico will somehow be involved? [link] [comments] |
Subrogation letter and “making a claim” language Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:20 PM PST I slipped and fell outside my apartment complex in January and broke my femur, which ended up requiring surgery and a night in the hospital, plus weeks of physical therapy. I have insurance, which covered a majority of the procedure, minus a yearly out of pocket maximum that I'm responsible for. Today I received a subrogation letter from a 3rd party ("on behalf of" my insurance) requesting more information about the accident. Where it occurred, when it occurred, responding law enforcement, etc. I had a question about some of the language used in the letter though. It asks "if I am making a claim or taking legal action because of this injury, or plan to." I understand this is probably an excessively basic question for this sub, but I'm basically insurance-illiterate, as this has been the first time I've had anything beyond simple checkups or teeth cleanings to deal with. What is "you making a claim" in this context? The hospital has already billed the insurance company, hence why this 3rd party is involved, but is that me making a claim, or the hospital? I have not explicitly initiated any claims to my insurance, and don't plan to make any in the future, but there are certainly claims that have been made based on work done to me. As for legal action I think there's a case (I slipped on sidewalk that the apartment complex I rent from is responsible for cleaning), but I have opted not to take legal action at this time, as my out of pocket responsibility has had a reasonable amount of digits. If my insurance company were to take one on to try and recoup their costs I imagine they could, but I'd rather stay out of that if possible. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2020 02:57 PM PST [California] Details of my case: - 2019 Honda Accord Sport (26~27k MSRP) - 9k estimate for the first inspection by their insurance - Allstate is at-fault insurance (which I'm going through) - Kempur is my insurance - Total days to repair 25 days - Picture of my damage: https://www.reddit.com/r/Autobody/comments/f7kgpy/someone_hit_my_parked_car_with_his_gmc_truck/ Is it worth filing a diminished value claim in this case? Total repair costs about almost half of what my current car costs. It seems like diminished value claim lawyers are only interested in expensive cars (most diminished value after the accident) and I'd have to file a small claim to the driver that hit my car. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Rental insurance claim question Posted: 03 Mar 2020 06:39 PM PST So my boyfriend set up our rental insurance a few months ago but he added basically no personal property coverage which meant that we also didn't have any loss of use coverage. A few days ago one of our neighbors had a fire in their apartment and the sprinklers went off in the hallway and leaked into our unit. Due to the restoration we haven't been able to live in our apartment and we've been staying in a hotel nearby. Our insurance said they won't pay for any of our hotel costs. We live in an expensive area and the hotel bill will be over $1500. Would we be able to collect through our apartments insurance? Or the persons insurance who actually caused the fire? Posted: 03 Mar 2020 02:37 PM PST Hello folks, hoping someone can help me with some advice. I can't remember the last time I made an auto insurance claim, looking for some guidance and understanding of what may happen before I call. The main points:
How will my car insurance look at this? I have not made a claim in a long time (at least 5 years, probably closer to 10, and it was for about $2500 IIRC), will this be considered my fault since i can't prove someone else did this? Is the delay from when I presume the damage was done to today (4 days or so) a problem? I was thinking if I can get a ballpark estimate and lets say they can bang out the panel, and repaint for say $2000 maybe with the deductible it isn't worth the claim. I am worried that if I notify the insurance my rates will be impacted even if I do not file a claim. Should I call insurance before anyone looks at it or will I be OK getting a quote first? Help me reddit! Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Allstate set cancellation date days later than requested Posted: 03 Mar 2020 06:05 PM PST I requested to have my allstate insurance cancelled because i was switching to a cheaper company and I emailed my agent as requested stating my date of cancellation. Agent got back to me one day later requesting documentation of my new company's policy. I sent it and a day he later gets back to me then finally cancels it 3 whole days later than my original date requested as per the email. Is it worth contacting him and having him change it to my original date so that the prorated refund is what it should be? It's only about $18 but hey $18 is $18. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2020 06:02 PM PST Has anyone ever successfully gotten an insurance settlement as a passenger in an auto accident in Alabama? I was a passenger in an accident on the way to my friend's wedding. He was driving, and was at fault. I have around 60k in medical bills that the auto insurance paid 10 of and my health insurance paid the rest. My health insurance wants to be reimbursed out of the settlement because I wasn't liable, but because of the AL guest statute I am not able to recover any settlement from his insurance. Is there anyway around this? He was not driving recklessly or impaired, he pulled out in front of someone from a stop sign. Some websites mention that any kind of compensation for the ride is an exception to the law and some mention that if the ride was mutually beneficial then that could also be an exception. Wondering if the fact that he was driving me up to be a groomsman for his wedding could be a factor. Also I did put gas in the vehicle for the trip. Also one more question, there was $2600 out of the $10k limit left of medical coverage from the auto insurance. I sent them an itemized bill from one of the hospitals that totaled $11,000. The bill showed that my health insurance paid all of it except the $150 dollar copay. I got a letter from the insurance stating that they paid the remaining $2600 to the hospital. Why would they send all of it for a $150 dollar bill? Was it a mistake that I should contact someone about so I can get other bills paid with the amount that was overpaid? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2020 01:26 PM PST Hello, I'm currently a property and casualty insurance agent in the United States and have been approached by a senior insurance sales agent for World Financial Group . The guy who approached me is a well respected member of our local community and owns multiple businesses within said community. He gave me a presentation regarding various life Insurance products among them IUL's (indexed universal life). This individual has said I can make roughly $5000 per month working part time selling these products (I looked into it and selling IUL life insurance policies is indeed lucrative) . I currently have a book of business with property and casualty of around 100 individuals, despite this I struggle financially to support my growing family and this kind of money sounds alluring. After researching these products I don't know if I feel comfortable pitching them to my book of business as the individual mentioned above wants me to do. I feel ethically conflicted. Can you please give me your opinion on this matter ? Thank you all for any opinion you may share. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2020 03:52 PM PST Texas/US Last night, I was driving my way from work to my house. I saw a stray dog run across my car and there was no way to avoid hitting it. I stopped further down the road as there was no area to safely park. I went back to check on the dog to if it was still on the road but the dog was no longer there. I honestly felt sick and couldn't sleep thinking what I did to the dog. I talked to my insurance this afternoon and they told me hitting a small animal such as a dog or cat would automatically constitute to filing a claim as the dog itself could have belong to some one regardless if it was a stray. Is this true with most small animals incidents or does it depend on the insurance company. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2020 03:30 PM PST My nephew is 18. He lives about 3 miles from us, is not part of our household. Although he has a driver's license he is not listed on any auto insurance. I have all the various coverages - comprehensive, collision, liability, etc - from Allstate. I'll be going out of town for a bit over a week in April and would like to loan him my car so he can come check on the house more easily and help my wife with some stuff (she has some physical challenges.) I realize the best answer is to ask my agent, but wondered if there would likely be coverage in this scenario. [link] [comments] |
Do we need to file a claim? - Renter's Insurance Posted: 03 Mar 2020 02:55 PM PST Hi all! Last Wednesday, we received an email from our building complex that water will be out as there was a broken pipe. We returned home to find our garage, which is attached to the building and beside the sprinkler room, had a leak in it. It damaged several things. We went to the leasing office and the leasing agent told me to email him with a list of things that had been damaged, and to take pictures. He said they would probably be making a claim with their insurance. I sent him an itemized list that night, with replacement values, and URLs to show where that price came from. They sent service guys to sweep out the water and also put an industrial fan in the garage to dry it out. I followed up yesterday and again today, and the agent told me that they had filed a claim with their insurance, but that their insurance was waiting for our insurance to contact them "the same as if a car accident had happened" as they would be my agent for getting the personal items reimbursed. He was unable to give me any information about their insurance company. I thought that was super sketchy, so called our renter's insurance and told them the story. The agent told me that unless we were liable for the leak or damage, we had no reason to file a claim nor did the apartment's insurance have any reason to contact them. Called back the agent who passed the phone to the community director, who then told me that they did file a claim with their insurance, but their "policy" is that if any personal belongings are damaged, the renter should file a claim with their insurance. I told them what the agent said. She also had no information about the insurance company's name or the claim number, but would be speaking to someone at corporate tomorrow and getting back to me. What if she comes back and says they're not going to replace our damaged belongings? We are literally closing on our house on Thursday and will have homeowner's insurance through the same company - we are worried that filing a claim will affect our premium, even though we were not at fault. Any advice would be appreciated!! BTW, state is VA and the company is a large nationwide apartment management company type of thing. [link] [comments] |

Question about someone driving my other vehicle and getting a ticket Posted: 03 Mar 2020 02:35 PM PST So I was just wondering, if I let someone borrow my 2nd car to drive, and if they happened to get a ticket for DUI or for smoking weed (not sure if that's a separate charge or ticket), does that ever raise my car insurance premiums, although they aren't listed on my car or insurance and let's say if I decide to never let them drive the car ever again? I live in Ontario and my vehicles and insurance are registered in Ontario, Canada by the way, if that helps with my question. [link] [comments] |
