To any young kid considering sales! Posted: 28 Feb 2020 04:06 AM PST Do it, do it, do it, fuck working for a restaurant. The pay will most likely be less or at least similar, but the knowledge you will gain is invaluable. I'm 20 been doing sales for a jiu jitsu academy and have Learned so much. Don't just use your time to make money, learn a skill that will translate to many different fields. I'm so fortunate to be offered a job selling a product, instead of just working for a corporation. I'm so appreciative for the opportunity to be able to learn and to be able to do sales. It is so Invaluable, no job is out there like sales to teach me the things I've learned, compared to the normal jobs teenagers take. EDIT: I was a waiter for 3 years, learned some skills but nothing close to a sales position., also I sucked ass for 2 months till I realized what sales really is. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2020 07:52 AM PST First and foremost, I want to thank this awesome community for all their input on my questions and their knowledgeable answers. I, unfortunately, got let go of this job for "not having the same energy" even though I was ecstatic about reading the script and talking to potential deals. I didn't change a single word on the script as per my last post, and was still let go. I should have listened to the reviews on this job when people were saying that they were let go the 3rd day for not making a deal. But that's life, and I'll be doing general labor in the meantime to make up on bills. But you will not see the last of me. My sales career is not done. I just need time away to make sure my son is taken care of and honestly, general labor is the quickest way for me to receive money so I can stay afloat. Keep doing you, fellow salesman and saleswoman! I believe in you and once again, thank you. I'll be back! [link] [comments] |
I'm etering a Sales Career; what advice do you have for me? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 08:31 AM PST So, I just did an interview today for a Verizon Wireless Sales Representative position, and it went really well! I'll be scheduled for a second interview with the business owners of the individual Verizon dealer company probably within a week. I'm around 80% sure I'll get the job. So, given I have no experience in sales, what tips or advice do you have for me? I look forward to reading your thoughtful responses! [link] [comments] |
Those that read Fanatical Prospecting: What did you take away from it that you use the most? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 04:14 AM PST Just curious, I am reading it right now and it's a great book. Makes me want to read all of his others. Some things in there seem like a lot of theoretical work to do to get better, such as the pyramid and putting prospects in that. I think the broad concept of knowing which ones (mentally) are towards the top and chase after them, instead of taking time to label and organize them all. Especially if you are making 20-40 calls/day in B2B. I'm about halfway through the book rn. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2020 03:13 AM PST Got into sales 4 years ago, I was a converted tradesman and started working b2b the hard way, selling one of the weaker offerings in the sector with zero support, not even a website. Went through 4 bosses and at least 10 reps I was the longest serving guy at 3 year mark on a team of 10. Targets were ridiculously high to keep bonus payout low and top down pressure was constant. Got a recruiter cold call from linkedin 2 weeks ago asking if I was interested in a new job working for the the leader in my sector with double the compensation and amazing expense account. Did 3 interviews in 1 week and got hired. Looking for any advice on going from a churn and burn unprofessional small company to a giant international corporation. [link] [comments] |
Help negotiating single/double trigger accelerator clause with my promotion Posted: 28 Feb 2020 11:02 AM PST Context: I work at a SaaS startup, pre-IPO. I'm getting promoted and along with it comes a $10k base pay raise or I can choose to take it in equity. I would say 99% of my colleagues just take the equity and don't think twice. I want to take the equity, however, I would like to have (preferably) a single trigger accelerator or a double trigger accelerator clause included. I'm being promoted from SDR to AE so I'm not exactly in the best position to negotiate, but I'm still going to shoot my shot. I was thinking of proposing 85% of the equity I would receive with a single trigger accelerator, or 90% with a double trigger. I think it's reasonable to take a bit less in exchange for the security. Question is, where do I start? What percentages are fair? Does anyone have any type of experience with this? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
What’s the best way to uncover who is the purchasing decision-maker in a hospital? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:59 AM PST Typically I know that would fall under a purchasing/procurement agent or the physicians. However, in this specific case I'd be selling sensor/monitoring systems for critical environments. That doesn't fall into the typical medical device sale that physicians would have a lot of say in. Looking to find the best person to set up a face-to-face meeting with to get my foot in the door. [link] [comments] |
Things I hate about my sales job Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:52 AM PST I have a list of things that get to me at work maybe you guys could clarify what's typically accepted. Laptops given to work from home although were told legally we can't work from home. Management even goes as far to post in the group chat late nights a weekends things along the lines of "grind" Misleading pitch which compares our data base to a Google search when it's far from it The competitive aspect where you feel lika a loser when your team hasn't hit demo quota and has to stay the rest of the day and come in the next day. Alphas for BDAs that AEs can prospect off of at will [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:25 AM PST $$ savings doesn't seem to make companies want to change what they've been doing for years. The big company works and they know the process will go smooth with them so saving a couple G's doesn't matter. How can A cold calling bdr get them to leave the big established brand and switch to a nobody? [link] [comments] |
Who does Business Development? Need some tips. Posted: 28 Feb 2020 09:54 AM PST I have been doing Business Development for an IT/Digital marketing company for about 3 years now. It does have a base salary of 30K with commission but I am not directly selling any services. What I do is more of prospecting and targeting leads to see who is in our demographic of company sizes of 25+ and ultimately see who the decision maker is for their IT infrastructure whether it's internal/outsourced or a hybrid and book an appointment for my CEO to introduce him and our company to see what types of services are a good fit for them. While the start of the year has been getting better, I've been in a slump these past 2 weeks. My quota is to get 2 first time appointments, but these past 2 weeks I have gotten none. I try to do all the steps possible and 90% of the time no one answers, which I get as that's very common with sales let alone cold calling. The ones who do are happy with their IT, under a contract, don't have a budget or the ones that have been seemingly interested have just been kinda jerking me around. While I did have an appointment get converted into a customer recently, I still get the anxiety of getting fired in the back of my head whenever I have a bad week where I get 1 or no appointments booked. I try to find out who the decision maker is, see what pain points they're having but a lot of times they just don't give me the time of the day and I want to improve this. What can/should I do? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 09:47 AM PST Hello everyone, I was the assistant of sales at my first job in my early 20s. And 10 years later, now I have my own brand product and company. I made countless cold calling since the first day of sales until now I still make few dials a day when I saw some potential leads. It is endless learning in a sales career no matter what position you are. I keep practice and learning whenever I make the call. (Especially I am not a native speaker I spent more time to make myself learning different culture and the way they talk and the tone) My question is, are you guys could share what`s the best cold calling script you ever have seen and used for North America people? I would like to learn about your good experience and make more successful American style cold calling My call would ask the retailer to buy the product from us and selling it in their store for their customers. Hiring a sales person for a digital agency - looking for advice Posted: 28 Feb 2020 07:18 AM PST I'm the owner of a small digital design agency based in the UK. We currently have 12 employees, and have been around for 8 years. We have experienced very slow growth which has pretty much stalled for the last few years. I've decided to pull the trigger on hiring a dedicated salesperson to help find the oppourtunities we need to grow. We mostly work in web design and development, but also have some marketing clients and dabble occasionally in graphic design. But our bread and butter is websites and developing custom tools/systems. Our work is excellent - I say that with 100% conviction. We do a brilliant job for our clients. We typically charge around £12-16k per project, although we do occasionally take on smaller projects than that when we're less busy. Most of our customers are other small-to-medium businesses, often with a single inhouse marketing person that we work with. But our most profitable client is a global business that we have developed a range of systems for. We'd love more of these types of clients, but I'm not sure how realistic this is. We have never had a dedicated salesperson. We have relied entirely on businesses coming to us with work. We have a pretty good website and portfolio, and simply existing has resulted in fairly regular leads - and historically, that's been fine. Things are ticking over, everyone is busy, and we make decent money. But we're not growing. I'm fairly sure that we need a salesperson that can actively find new business. We don't get a huge amount of leads coming in - we're usually fairly good at closing the ones that are decent quality. But there just aren't enough of them. We have enough office space for probably 20+ people, so capacity isn't a problem if someone starts bringing in too much work for us to handle. But really, I don't know where to start, or what job title I should advertise for. We definitely need someone with experience, ideally at another digital agency. I'm available to give whatever help and training is needed in terms of our service offering, but whoever we hire needs to know what they're doing. Does anyone have any guidence on what I should be looking for? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2020 05:44 AM PST Good morning my friends! Just wanted to hear about everyone's experience as an SDR and what came after that? How did being an SDR help prepare you for other positions (outside sales/AE) etc. I'm in my 8th month as an SDR and have done great but I'm starting to itch towards something else. I wanna be more involved and have more opportunities for more commission. I like my company but they have some policies where they want you in the same position for a period of time. So once that year hits I'll know I want something new or to hopefully be promoted. Would love to hear everyone's story. [link] [comments] |

What is the easiest way to manage my 1099 money? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 04:07 AM PST I've been earning 100% revenue from 1099 money for a while and it seems like a pain to make sure I'm maximizing my earnings. Does anyone have any tips? What has been the hardest things for you? What has been the biggest win? [link] [comments] |
Anyone ever moved from a BDR job to an AE role at a different firm? (Software) Posted: 27 Feb 2020 05:45 PM PST Hi everyone, I've been in sales for the last 5 or so years. I've sold HR, Consulting and Digital Marketing products as a BDR. I had my first closing role at a Marketing Agency two years ago in 2018 and I killed it, setting some sales records and making my number. I got offered a BDR role at a large enterprise software company and took it, despite it being a step backward in responsibility/role/income, as I wanted some enterprise sales experience. 6 months on, I'm getting offers for junior AE roles at some other mid-market / enterprise software companies. The work environment has changed and the comp plan has also changed, wiping out a significant chunk of my projected earnings and hurting me financially. My issue is that the recruiter has highlighted some of these people will consider my lack of full cycle sales experience in software a negative. I've closed deals and carried quota for a full two years, but it was in a very different market. I'm also very young, only 24, so there's a possibility enterprise hiring managers will only see me as a BDR. So how do I present myself as a capable AE without having closing experience in market? Based on my experience, how do I position myself in the best possible way? [link] [comments] |
High ticket phone sales $5k+ - Discovery/Sales call questions: Posted: 28 Feb 2020 02:11 AM PST Skype? Other? What if they miss the call and call you back an hour later? What do you say to them when you answer? What if they miss your call.. and start texting you questions? Don't answer them, and try to reschedule? Do you offer rescheduling? How do you 'posture' the rescheduling of the call? [link] [comments] |
Have any of you used Sales Nav or similar to prospect a new job? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:40 PM PST I'm interviewing here and there for various gigs in biotech, SaaS, etc but no offers yet. I'm thinking about using Sales Nav for the free trial to make some connections and try to get a hold of people so I can land a new job. It seems like it would be an obvious move, right? Going through HR is pointless when I can just contact sales managers, and I need to step up my game so I can find something that'll build my career. For the record, I'm in California now and looking to get into SaaS. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 04:38 PM PST I just had a digital interview for a sales position and that thing was harder than anything i've ever done before. By digital interview i mean you talk to a camera and answer in 2-3 mins with no humans involved. As a sales person not being able to react to any sort of physical or verbal feedback, i found it nightmarish. Considering how weird it is to not actually talk to a human being i hope their standards are not high for the next step cus i definitely do not have a future in youtube. [link] [comments] |
The best sales training for me? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 01:01 AM PST Hi, I've recently started a new sales role cold calling the general public to get them to switch over their energy supplier. I am 4 weeks in and had a great start but as time went on, I started to get into my own head and started to realise the roller-coaster of emotions that comes with sales. I've had to take a couple of days off as I feel I'm mentally drained but thought now is a good time to do some home based sales training. Can anybody reccomend any people for me to learn from today? TIA [link] [comments] |
Is Outsourcing your Phone Sales Possible? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 11:17 PM PST If you sell a Physical product online can you outsource Successfully your Phone Sales Team? Who has some experience or knows some insides. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 03:22 PM PST I have worked in sales doing insurance but as of lately I have had a hard time making dials. I want to get into tech sales, so I know I will need to make tons of outbound cold calling and just need some help if any from anyone that has had a hard time making those dials. Right now my only problem is talking on the phone, I can dial just that I choke up and need to figure out why. Any help or feedback would be great [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 03:04 PM PST Somebody give me a real rundown here. I've read so many different things. I understand it's a grind to make money. Do I log my calls, and are they recorded? New to this sorry. Do they track my car? I've read somewhere that it should take so long to get somewhere and it took 8 min longer and the manager wanted to know why. Is it really this micro managed? This would be a career change for me. 15 years in management of 100 plus employees. Hospitality. I'm willing to work hard, but I'd prefer to be judged on results not actions. Is this normal in this industry? I'm looking at more entry level sales to get my foot in because in my experience my background isn't relevant to most employers. Somebody enlighten me.
