Why should I be using Robinhood Posted: 24 Feb 2020 06:46 PM PST I see a lot of people on here using robinhood as opposed to other trading platforms. I'm generally new to all this and started on schwab about 3 years ago because at the time the rates were the lowest. My questing is should I start using robinhood more ? What are the benefits? And in your opinion what is the best platform or what is each platform best for ? [link] [comments]

I'm only 19 and a university student, I have enough savings to invest, should I? Posted: 24 Feb 2020 04:21 PM PST I'm not asking if I should based on current prices, I'm asking purely on if it's smart that someone at a young age start investing now. I feel like I lack the life experience one might need to make smart decisions, but on the other hand I'd like to start earlier to get a head start. I've gotten mixed advice from a lot of different people/sources, I'm just looking for more. Thank you smart people. [link] [comments]

Here's why I think the coronavirus fears are spread far wider than they ought to be. Posted: 24 Feb 2020 04:57 PM PST By no means am I claiming to be a health or economic expert, however using some common sense and little bit of digging I was able to come up with this: The latest report from the WHO shows Hubei province as being the most affected region. So what are the majority of factories from Hubei producing? Cars. Which ones? The ones you've never even heard of such as: Hasheng Huazhou, Luba, and Huashi Bus. Hubei has a population of 58.5 MILLION people. The amount of infections is already well contained. Yes, sure there are going to be people who continue to spread it to other regions around the world for sometime but it probably won't be at the same scale as Hubei given that other countries are now aware and hyper vigilant with their preparations. Developing countries who might lack adequate medical capabilities on their own are going to be assisted by the WHO. Additionally, the people most at risk from dying are the elderly and those with preexisting conditions. Most cases are asymptomatic. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Feb 2020 04:43 PM PST Hello everyone, Not long ago I released my Disney "Due Diligence" report and received good feedback. As part of my ongoing research for specific tickers I went through the last 12 Starbucks (SBUX) quarterly reports and aggregated some of the data as well as noted some of the important quotes from management throughout the earnings calls. Click here for the full Starbucks research report with all the visualized data and quotes. As a summary, I've come up with these key points. Key Points 1. From raw earnings data: 2. Starbucks, specifically in China, is working on digitizing the industry and making deliveries more accessible. They partnered with Alibaba to make this more feasible as they see steady growth in mobile delivery orders and loyalty program members. The key feature here was to be easily accessible with Alibaba and also make it possible to join the loyalty program with only a couple of clicks. 3. Expanding in China at approx 150 stores per quarter or 600 per year. Expects 6,000 stores in China by the end of FY 2022. They currently operate 4,292 stores in China or 13.5% of all Starbucks locations. The locations in China generate approximately 11.5% of Starbucks sales. 4. Management commented about the increase in competition from Luckin Coffee saying it is only natural. There is a large and growing addressable market for coffee in China that has just begun to get penetrated and will attract more competition. Starbucks stated that because China is largely a tea drinking culture, more competitors in the coffee industry will accelerate the overall adoption of coffee by the Chinese consumer. Starbucks argues that what is good for the industry (more competitiveness) is also very good for Starbucks. 5. Coronavirus will have some impact on revenues. They estimate China accounts for 10% of revenues. They will provide more transparency coming in March and closer to earnings report in April. They estimate that opening new stores contribute to approximately 80% of Starbucks' revenue growth. 6. Most existing stores are experiencing more revenue growth from increased prices rather than an increase of traffic or transactions. Most of Starbucks revenue growth will come from creating more opportunities and opening more stores. More stores = more growth for Starbucks and China is an opportunity in this sense as they are opening stores at a rate growth rate of 16% compared to opening stores at a rate of 3% in the U.S. Feel free to post any comments. Posted: 24 Feb 2020 12:36 PM PST U.S. stocks may not be able to "power through" the coronavirus as they did with the SARS outbreak and the travel industry will take longer to recover, analysts at broker Cowen are warning. Global stocks tumbled on Monday as the spread of the coronavirus outside China intensified, with Italy and South Korea reporting a spike in new cases. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -3.10% lost 760 points shortly after the open, and is now 1% down year-to-date, while the S&P SPX, -2.90% fell 2.5% in early trading and is 0.7% up so far in 2020. The S&P 500 posted a gain of more than 20% in the three months after the World Health Organization said it was investigating the SARS outbreak in March 2003, according to Cowen. However, that period coincided with the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the early stages of an economic expansion and cheaper stocks, Cowen equity research analysts led by Kevin Kopelman said. "We believe SARS was largely overshadowed by the U.S. invasion of Iraq on Mar.19, the fall of Baghdad on Apr.10 and end of major operations on May.1. "When the SARS outbreak began, the economy was also in early stages of an expansion phase and the S&P traded at 15 times price to earnings." The S&P 500 currently trades 22 times price to earnings. SARS infected more than 8,000 people across 29 countries in an eight-month period, causing 774 deaths. The coronavirus has infected close to 80,000 people, while the death toll has risen above 2,600. Despite the difference, China accounts for 97% of coronavirus, whereas the SARS virus travelled further with just 66% of cases in China. Air travel recovered to pre-outbreak levels after six months from the SARS epidemic but Cowen analysts predicted it would take longer this time around. "Even if we assume a V-shaped recovery, as occurred in 2003 following SARS, the market is much bigger now. In 2000, 10 million Chinese traveled outbound, in 2018 164 million did - in our view it will take more than just six months to recover that traffic," Cowen analysts said. ... [link] [comments]
