Unique Selling Proposition in 3 Steps

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 12:23 PM PST

Your marketing plan section of your business plan demonstrates how you're going to get consumers to purchase your product. On this #MarketingMonday I will assist you in completing your unique selling position plan in three steps. Your selling proposition serves as a theme for all marketing and advertising promotions.

Step 1 Find your competitive advantage.

Take a look at your business from the consumer's perspective and identify your competitors. After analyzing your competitors identify what your product or service offers that they don't. This is your competitive advantage.

Step 2 In one memorable sentence, what is beneficial about your product or brand?

In this step, you want to identify what is attractive about your product or brand. Remember to review your market segmentation factors like gender, income, race, religion, and education. Understanding your consumer psychology will give you a perspective on the target market.

Step 3 Create a slogan or memorable tag line conveying your unique selling position.

You want to convey your unique selling position in advertising for all social media, websites, and other promotional activities. For example, " You're going to like the way you look- I guarantee it." A famous unique slogan by George Zimmer of The Men's Wearhouse.

If you cant give answers to these core selling proposition questions it is time to rethink your differentiation from the market, my friend, Join me again for next week's #MarketingMonday to discuss the pricing strategy portion of the marketing plan.

    Happy New Year!

Could automation help you in your day to day running of your small business?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 02:50 AM PST

I am a python developer that loves automation. I've wrote scripts for people to save them time and money. If you need simple things like sending emails, text (sms) or filling in sheets, or more complex things like stock management, file creation etc.

I especially love working with PDFs. Creating invoice templates for example, or extracting data into spreadsheets.

I'm only looking to add things to my portfolio for future, so if there's anything I can do to help then let me know.

I'd be interested to hear what small tedious tasks you have that take up a lot of time in your day, and see if there's a way I can help you not use up a large percentage of your time doing them.

(not here trying to sell services. I just want to keep learning)

I just need a little encouragement, pep talk to keep working my full time while doing a start up.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 01:11 PM PST

I'm so restless at my current job, which is a GREAT job, just boring to me. I can't bring myself to care as much as I should because I'm so distracted by my own business. To clarify, I'm not slacking-- just emotionally feeling down.

Does anyone have some positivity to share about your heart being somewhere other than your current job, but still remaining hopeful about enjoying your current position until your business is ready?

What is the best way to populate an online store with product listings (including barcodes and images)?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 03:52 AM PST

I am looking to sell movies, books, games, and music.

I don't have any stock yet, but want to ensure that I have the items listed as part of my store catalogue / database.

What is the best way to populate an online store with product listings (including barcodes)?

Is there a database out there which I can import, or will I need to add the products manually over time?

    Credit Card Convenience fee

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:44 PM PST

I help run a social club and we are about to accept credit cards for dues payments. I am looking at square's virtual terminal for it's ease and minimal hardware needed.

I am in Massachusetts and everywhere I look I see that a "Convenience Fee" is illegal here but my city charges one when I pay a bill online with them, and other cites around me as well and countless businesses I see too.

My question is do they just not give a shit about breaking the law or are they somehow exempt or did the laws change? Does anyone from Mass know the real answer to this?

    Thanks!

    Business advice on scaling.

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 04:33 AM PST

Really in need of some business advice or more of a direction in which I should take my side hustle. A little background, I use to work full time at a tech company here in Australia.

Starting doing the o'l buy and sell off gumtree (similar to craigslist) particular in tech products. Short story, I found a few products that sell really well through this channel, so well that when I got made redundant in 2018 it didn't really matter due to the sales that were coming through. I found a few suppliers that are reliable, created a business and managed to increase my sales (all through gumtree, fb marketplace).

    My sale figures are
    2016-2017FY: 24k

    2017-2018FY: 185k

    2018-2019FY: 377k

    2019-Current: 240k

The profit margin is around 20-25% (hoping to increase). Don't have a storefront nor online shop, this is purely off gumtree, I work from home so I get a lot of people coming in and out (not a drug dealer haha). Really unsure if opening a storefront within my area or going down the e-commerce pathway would be better. Product is very competitive online, but I feel with the right brand awareness and marketing it can work well. I really want to tackle other states in Australia.

Storefront vs E-Commerce or alternatives. I know many factors come into play but any advice based on what I've given would be great. Thanks :)

Features required to handle small gyms in the UK

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 03:33 AM PST

Managing a gym is very difficult task, it's better to get a club manager. A club management software will help you to manage billings, Gym member access via access control, member app for member engagement and much more.

How could I go about starting an app like Acorns or Qoins?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 02:54 AM PST

I can code but I'm a junior so not too well.

I have a great idea thats similar to Acorns or Qoins that rounds up change.

Also who could I speak to jump through all the legal loopholes? How hard would it be to have this app made and launched for users to use?

    Thank you!

    Scam For LLC filing

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 10:13 AM PST

If you get a letter from a company claiming to file your LLC report for you for a fee, it's a scam. This one was called C.P.F.S. And they are a bunch of shitheads that can go suck an egg.

Just thought I'd share with y'all. First year with an LLC and I actually almost fell for it!

Most Efficient Way to Pay for a Service

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 01:15 AM PST

I own a sole proprietor LLC. I have someone who makes me content to post on my social media accounts and website, mostly graphic design and marketing. What is the best way to pay them for their service? Make them an employee, pay them a consultant fee, etc? I want to be able to write this off or reduce my taxable income with the amount that I pay them for their services to my business. Thank you

Need Recommendations for Inventory Software for Auto Parts Store

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:31 PM PST

This is my first post here, I have a wide variety of inventory, I would like the inventory organization to be customizable, so I can Sort the inventory list based in the following aspects:

    • Car model (For example F12, F16, etc)
    • Brand of the auto spare parts
    • Car system (For Steering Dampers belong to the suspension system)

Also, it would be great if I could see which parts are sold most frequently, and let me know when I am close to be out of stock

Tips for interviewing someone with more experience

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 09:22 PM PST

I'm scheduling interviews this week for my massage therapy center, and while I'm an experienced LMT, I am going to be interviewing some candidates with 10+ years more experience than me. Does anyone have tips on overcoming the imposter syndrome?

Big meeting tomorrow looking for advice.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:43 PM PST

We are a small business of about 13 employees and have a meeting soon to potentially sell about 500k worth of our used equipment to a customer that is currently leasing it.

Any advice or tips for the meeting as far as negotiating? I am not a salesman and am very inexperienced dealing with numbers over 30k at a time or so.

One of the people involved has stressed how "it all depends on the numbers" but I'm honestly not sure if it's a distraction tactic or not.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Current small business owner with questions on operating totally separate type of company. Serious.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:23 PM PST

Hello all. I'm currently a locksmith and doing well in the field. Earlier today I had an associate pay me $50 to scream at me. I let him and actually enjoyed the experience. Does anyone know how I could expand upon this? I don't know where to start, but I genuinely enjoy the idea of letting people blow off steam by taking their anger out on me. I don't know if this would fall under entertainment/therapeutic services or what. All information is greatly appreciated.

I need a small business CRM/Scheduler for services.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 12:33 PM PST

My mother and I started a family cleaning business about 3 years ago and it has really been doing well. We are both making a stable income and are looking into hiring and training some cleaners under us. Along with that, we are at about 70 customers, most of which are repeats and are trying to find an easy way to manage it, both on PC and Mobile.

I've tried Hubspot but its a bit too much on the sales side of things.

I've tried Calendly, Appointfix, and a few others that are similar to those, but they are lacking some features that I need.

Schedul is almost perfect. It has everything I want except it's made for salons and spas and it really does show that throughout the app. If "Salon" was just changed to a more generalized term it would be perfect. If I could get something like this but more general, I would be a happy man.

    Thanks for any help!

    Home Baker inquiry - Canada

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 06:23 PM PST

    Asking for a friend.

My friend has recently started a home baking service. Someone has asked her to supply certain baked goods; but is asking for an invoice. My friend has no licence and is wondering whether or not this is a wise idea partnering up after just taking off with the business. Friend lives in Ontario for any inquiring minds.

Any advice or info would be appreciated.

    Question about selling pharmaceuticals

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 06:01 PM PST

Hi, I'm wondering what the requirements for selling a generic oral pharmaceutical medicine would be in Canada. For example, a generic version of an antibiotic pill manufactured in Canada for the Canadian market.

I'm seeing here that there's an annual fee to sell pharmaceuticals in Canada

Looking for help growing my business.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 05:55 PM PST

Hi! I have started a subscription box company that ships out artisan spices, oils, and awesome kitchen gadgets each month to my subscribers. I had a very high boost of customers over Christmas, and since then, my google ads have stopped producing results at any type of profitable rate.

Because I receive renewal income from every signup, the key thing here is to get the signup in the first place.

I'm open to any and all ideas and would love to hear some advice. My main goal is to get as many signups as possible right now. We do already offer the customers first box free online, but it doesn't seem to be enough.

    Thanks Reddit World!

    Sendle contract couriers

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 05:13 PM PST

    Australian question:

Does anyone know which couriers Sendle contracts to fulfil delivery?

I've got a sensitive package that has seemingly gone missing and Sendle are refusing to tell me which company is actually fulfilling the delivery.

Sendle don't have a phone number and take full business days to reply so I'm trying to go straight to the source.
