r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Fundamentals Friday Jan 24, 2020 Posted: 24 Jan 2020 12:07 AM PST This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on fundamentals, but if fundamentals aren't your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against fundamentals here and not in the current post. Some helpful day to day links, including news:
Most fundamentals are updated every 3 months due to the fact that corporations release earnings reports every quarter, so traders are always speculating at what those earnings will say, and investors may change the size of their holdings based on those reports. Expect a lot of volatility around earnings, but it usually doesn't matter if you're holding long term, but keep in mind the importance of earnings reports because a trend of declining earnings or a decline in some other fundamental will drive the stock down over the long term as well. See the following word cloud and click through for the wiki: If you have a basic question, for example "what is EBITDA," then google "investopedia EBITDA" and click the Investopedia article on it; do this for everything until you have a more in depth question or just want to share what you learned. Tesla could eventually reach a trillion-dollar valuation, think tank says Posted: 24 Jan 2020 05:10 AM PST https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/24/tesla-to-1-trillion-think-tank-says-its-in-the-cards.html "One of the things that I see is, in the U.S., if you own a Toyota, you are three times more likely to want a Tesla," Yoon said, citing his firm's research. "So, I think that's actually very bad news for Toyota in the near term and in the long run. And you can see that kind of bearing out in their sales." Moreover, roughly 9% of U.S. households — about 10 million, by Yoon's calculation — are very likely or extremely likely to purchase a Tesla as their next car, adding another leg to his bull case. Thanks for the gold award!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2020 12:12 PM PST Today some dumbass news source spread fake news about Disneyland Shanghai closing indefinitely when its only temporary and now my stocks are eating shit. Don't sell, this'll all be over in a week or two. [link] [comments] |
Not just for the money: What stocks do you buy out of sheer interest in what a company does? Posted: 24 Jan 2020 01:42 PM PST Does anyone have stock in companies, not necessarily because it's big on returns for you, but because you're interested in what the company does and what it's future might be? If so what are they? [link] [comments] |
$SPY $SPX Possible short at this level. Posted: 24 Jan 2020 11:44 AM PST This trend line has be fairly accurate for a year so far. With today's drop a short looks like a good risk/reward setup. No position...yet. Chart [link] [comments] |
Boeing stock - buying now or waiting for a further drop? Posted: 24 Jan 2020 07:37 AM PST I'm going to start buying into Boeing around $300... Anyone else on same boat? What are your thoughts and Target price point for buying in on this stock? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 23 Jan 2020 02:00 PM PST I understand that we are in a Bull Market, but the growth rates I've been seeing for the past 3 months are absurd. I'm mainly in index funds and I'm 23% in the last 10 months, 17 that 23 % is in the last 3 months. This after nearly a decade of Bull conditions. This is way beyond sustainable. Don't get me started with TSLA. I usually buy with dollar cost averaging, but I've slowed way down in the last month. I even sold everything I had right before new years and then re-purchased (with some re-balancing) the next day. I'm debating something like the dollar cost averaging for selling in the near future. This is far beyond the 'irrational exuberance' of the late 90s. Why isn't the market correcting? I understand that the FED doesn't really care about the stock market, but unemployment and inflation are reasonably low. Why isn't the FED raising interest rates so we actually have some monetary levers when the economy slows? I'm not seeking investment advice here, but I'd also be curious to hear what some people are doing in these ongoing ever increasing market highs. [link] [comments] |
TSX:ALA - 40% potential for 2020 ? Posted: 24 Jan 2020 05:41 AM PST For all Canadian investors, would love to know what you think about AltaGas ? P/E: 5.2 P/B: 0.9 Div. % : 4.7% Technical: i see a beautiful bull flag forming on the weekly and ready to to blow 40% up if it successfully breaks prior resistance at $20.87. This can be a nice defensive stock as the market overheats. Let me know what you think. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2020 10:52 AM PST I was hedging on "future" stocks and I bought a lot of Plug stocks at 3.52, then it went down to 2.90 and I bought some more. After the report at the end of 2019, about a new project it went to 4.20-ish. I am not sure about the direction it is taking, and want to be sure it will be a good buy in future. Anyone have thoughts about this? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Jan 2020 08:52 AM PST It seems like this coronavirus is no joke and has had a terrible impact on Chinese stocks, even on two stocks which I thought were great. I have a feeling it's going to keep falling and falling as this virus gets more widespread and worse so I decided to just panic sell out of fear and wait until prices fall more so I can re-enter. Did I do the right thing? [link] [comments] |
TWTR High Risk, Long Term as US election season approaches Posted: 24 Jan 2020 10:21 AM PST In the coming months we're going to see an election with more emphasis than ever on social media. Candidates are going to up their game across all social media networks but with the rise of Mango, there is going to be a particular focus on Twitter - hell, even maybe some Twitter wars between candidates. Unlike last US election, Twitter is now as understandable as Facebook, even to boomers (OK). As all the proverbial crap flies, and with Trump running for re-election there most undoubtedly will be, the world is going to download and tune in. Grab your calls expiring post-election/early 2021. Posted: 24 Jan 2020 08:25 AM PST Hey guys just curious why nobody is talking about Aphria. At about $7 a share it doesn't seem like a bad idea. They seem to be getting involved in Europe and signing some deals from quick Google search. What am I missing? Do you guys think it cant go up from $7? A 2k investment doesn't seem like a terrible idea. Obviously risky but even if it goes up to $9. That would be a nice little profit. As you can tell by now I'm pretty new to the game, any feedback, comments, thoughts and suggestions are cool to read. [link] [comments] |
Inovio up +10% after receiving grant to develop coronavirus vaccine Posted: 24 Jan 2020 09:58 AM PST Not super familiar with the bio-tech industry. Anyone have any thought or insights into this? [link] [comments] |
Question on eToro Copy Trading Platform Posted: 24 Jan 2020 08:11 AM PST Hi, I am new to the trading world and would love to start getting involved and get some suggestions. I checked eToro and it seems to be easy to use, copy and follow a trader, however I read that the fees are quiet high there. I am looking to start and invest EUR 2000 either follow a trader or on an easy to use fund investment app, looking at 10%-15% p.a. What platform would you suggest and is eToro worth investing in? Any real life experiences on the platform will help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2020 02:03 PM PST https://www.forbes.com/sites/greatspeculations/2020/01/24/tesla-stock-to-0/amp/ This is what could happen to Tesla once the next re session hits. These guys can even produce a million cars and are speculated to reach a $1 trillion valuation. Overvalued. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2020 01:31 PM PST Wondering if buying a share prior to Q4 earnings would be a good idea, and if they'll be good and cause a surge. They sold an estimated 110K cars in Q4 which was great news [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Jan 2020 12:09 PM PST Hey all, Completely new to r/stocks and the whole trading world, currently have 1000$ to invest, what should I look into and for maximizing my returns in 2020 without committing some horrific mistake? What general sectors/areas should I study or pay close attention to? Of course I am Learning and educating myself on all the intricacies of finance/investing at the same time but just want to have some skin in the game in the meantime. Complete beginner just looking for push in the right direction. Operating out of the UK, planning on using degiro as my broker due to lowest fees and credibilitty. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2020 08:17 AM PST Renault stock is in a 8 year low, with rumors of a separation from Nissan and the company running out of cash. On the other hand it seems undervalued, and if the separation rumors are unfounded it can be a good time to buy. Do you think it can survive the dip? [link] [comments] |
