Why does dell have negative shareholders equity?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 11:04 PM PST

When calculating Dell Technologies debt-to-equity ratio, I found that its total liabilities were extremely high 111,566 (in millions) and its shareholders equity was negative 942 (in millions), meaning it's debt-to-equity ratio equals -118.43. This is a huge difference from its 2018 debt to equity ratio which equaled 6.08.

Could someone please explain what happened?!?!?

    Tetra Bio Pharma

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 11:21 AM PST

A biotech company focusing on receiving DINs and FDA Accelerated Approval for multiple cannabinoid products that have made significant progress in doing so thus far. Unfortunately right now their SP moves directly with weedstocks because not a lot of people know much about this company and/or products but they are truly a biotech company. Also because they haven't received a DIN yet, a lot of institutional money won't go near them due to the risk which is why their SP is low.

2020 is shaping up to a great year for them. See their investor presentation and press releases on their company's site.

    Thoughts on them?

[Question] I am very new to the game...

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 05:52 AM PST

Just to get my toes wet, I've considered investing $10 at a time into some stocks I'm interested in. Is $10 too little? Would it even matter? Don't poke fun, I'm just curious on how to get started without too much risk.

Is it worth owning individual banks stocks as opposed to just owning Berkshire Hathaway stock?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:27 AM PST

My current portfolio consisted of basically the major banks in the US such as BAC, JPM, and WFC. In my personal opinion I think that bank stocks have been undervalued for a quite a while now and that in the next year or two they'll start to see some major growth due to the implementation of fintech. My question is, is it worth owning individual shares of these major bank stocks or should I just own BRK-B stocks instead? Major US bank stocks seems to be the majority of their portfolio already. My only concern is that Berkshire doesn't pay out any dividends which individual bank stocks do. Just wanted to know your opinions on this.

Market Overall and Energy basically Flat. Why?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 10:20 AM PST

Not only are we about to move to a likely kinetic War but we are doing it in a place where the most likely way and place for Iran to strike is to disrupt or close the Strait of Hormuz. Yet the market overall is flat, not down,. Why? and energy is up only very modestly but is coming back to flat. And the price of crude is giving up much of its day's gains. Is everybody daft or do they have some odd belief that nothing is going to happen?

    Question on research

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 01:52 PM PST

Sorry if this is not the proper place to ask but I figured I would start here. Looking at a stock like ATLS, they had a high of around $54.00 back in 2013 and are now hovering under a penny. How can one go about doing research to find out what happened to them and why?

Looking for an automated source for earnings call transcripts

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:32 AM PST

I'm working on a project that involves reviewing historical and ongoing earnings call transcripts for a large number of publicly traded companies. Given that it's going to be a large number, I really want this to be something that I can automate rather than manual.

Does anybody know the best sources for transcripts, ideally in a way that can be automated? I know that Seeking Alpha provides a lot of earnings calls, but unfortunately, there's no way (as far as I can tell) to access these programmatically. I think you can also get these from some of the big industry players (CapIQ, Bloomberg, etc), but I'm looking for something that's not going to cost me $20k per year. Does anybody do anything like this or have an idea of where to get these?

    Is NIO a worthwhile investment?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:43 AM PST

I've been reading and watching about NIO for a month or two, the company had good results for the end of 2019 which is why the stock shot up. But is this a false hope? Hoping someone can provide some input into NIO for me, not sure if I should invest.

    Portfolio Help

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:17 AM PST

I'm a first time investor and want to start building some long term investment vehicles to park some savings money. I just finished putting 3 months salary in a high yield savings account. So now I'm wanting to slowly build a portfolio for long term growth.

I'd like the majority of my portfolio to be relatively low risk. I've done some research and looked into ETFs. I'd like some feedback on my future break down (currently about to invest $5000)

    15% Bonds ETFs - BND ; BNDX

15% Small Caps ETFs - VBR ; VB

40% Stock ETFs - VTI ; VOO ; VGT (some intentional overlap putting extra weight in technology)

    5% Banks - V ; BAC

    25% Stocks I believe in: MSFT ; AMD ; ATVI ; FB

    AMD at CES 2020

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 04:14 PM PST

Considering buying a few stocks of AMD at market open and selling as soon as CES is over so inflated valuation doesn't catch up before I sell. Is this a good strategy? Do you think AMD's stocks will go higher through their pre-CES announcement and into CES?

    Book recommendations about individual securities?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 10:06 AM PST

I've started reading A Random Walk Down Wall Street and it can be summarized with "invest in index funds, can't beat the market, etc etc" and while I absolutely wholeheartedly agree with this advice, I want something a little more nuanced.

My portfolio is majority indices/ETFs, but I still want to learn more about short-term securities which represents a portion (albeit a small one) of my portfolio. I want to learn how to interpret financial reports, assign value to a stock, gain advice about when to buy/sell, etc.

Are there any good book recommendations that cover individual securities in this way?

Oncolytics Biotech Inc - Good stock for a small highrisk/highreward bet?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 09:12 AM PST

In just three months the stock value has increased by nearly 900 percent. From their website: "Oncolytics Biotech Inc. is developing pelareorep, a safe and well-tolerated intravenously delivered immuno-oncolytic virus (IOV) that kills cancer..."

Is this recent spike due to some breakthrough in their research? Does anyone know a bit more about this stock that can share their opinion about it? Generally I put all my money in longterm big bluechip stocks but would like to play around with 10% of my capital in more riskier bets. I'm quite new to stock trading, is this company worth looking at?

    Is this a good portfolio?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:46 AM PST

    VOO (SP 500) 30%

    VPL (FTSE Pacific) 15%

    VGK (FTSE Europe) 10%

    VWO (FTSE Emerging) 10%

    BLV (Long-Term Bonds) 10%

    VNQ (US REIT) 15%

    Cash (or equivalents) 10%

Is it too complex? (I personally have no problems buying manually)

Why I'm not using Total Market ETF ? - to have higher flexibility / better re-balancing opportunities if one region's stock tanks or outperforms

I'm somewhat new to stocks and already made some mistakes, so for now I stick to ETFs. But I'd like to hear your suggestions / advices
