PSA: Breast Pump Coverage (US) Insurance

PSA: Breast Pump Coverage (US) Insurance

    PSA: Breast Pump Coverage (US)

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 06:37 AM PST

    Writing this to spread awareness.

Under current US law, a woman is entitled to a new breast pump, covered at 100%, per pregnancy. All that is needed is a prescription/order from the doctor delivered the baby (order would be for a "breast pump" or "electric breast pump").

Once you have the prescription, you can go to a pharmacy that also does medical equipment, or to a DME (durable medical equipment) store that works with your insurance/is in network.

Furthermore, if one has difficulties and needs a hospital grade breast pump, your insurance may cover a rental (prescription would be for "hospital grade electric breast pump", or similar). This benefit is usually after the regular pump is deemed to be insufficient, so this generally wouldn't be the first step.

Many of my friends and coworkers were not aware of this and ended up buying pumps at full retail price. Hopefully this helps anyone in this situation (congratulations, btw!)

Our attorney is asking about my Umbrella policy

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 04:50 PM PST

My son was riding a dirtbike on a county road, he was only 15 at time - wasn't supposed to be riding on road but a woman blew a stop sign and ran him over good. Broken leg, airlift to 2nd hospital, pins in legs, many months of recovery.

I have great medical and everything has been covered by my works insurance.

Because he was underage and wasn't supposed to be driving; I decided to get an attorney. Apparently the gal that ran us over only had $100k in coverage and just the medical portion is somewhere in the neighborhood of $150k so far.

My attorney says when their insurance isn't enough; we then have the option of hitting my insurance policy. I have good coverage and had full umbrella policy as well.

    First Question:

If I allow him to proceed; I'm allowing a significant claim on my policy; even though it's all the other lady's fault? I suspect he will get a grand payout when he's 18 - but am I financing that through crazy higher premiums in the future?

    2nd Question:

Even though I at one time said to my medical provider it was an accident, filled out some paperwork - I've yet to see them acknowledge it or ask any other questions. Are they going to be standing on the corner when he's 18 to get their cut - or is that something my attorney does?

Edit: these are questions I've asked my attorney, I'm just doing due diligent. While my assumption is he's looking out for us, but he also gets a piece of the pie - so vetting our his comment to get others thoughts. I live in Washington state.

Someone totaled my parked car. What can I file a claim for against her insurance?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:10 PM PST

On the day before Thanksgiving, a lady went head on into 3 parked cars, one of them being mine. My car along with another car were totaled. I was on the way to the airport in a Lyft and just had passed the scene a few mins after it happened. I had to get out and I ended up missing my flight.

Since she was the only one in a car and was transported to the hospital, I never got a chance to exchange insurance information, so I had to wait for the police report to file/process, which took 4 weeks. After it processed, I was able to get her information with her insurance information.

Keep in mind, it's now 1/28 and I still am going through the process with my insurance. I'm at the point where I've already signed the car over because it was totaled, signed to give my insurance access to the police report, and have been given an amount, but still in the process of finalizing and receiving a check.

My insurance said that my coverage didn't include rental car coverage, so I was on my own for that. However, they did say that I could rent a car out of pocket and then go after her insurance to recoup the costs, but when my insurance told me, I would have had a rental car for 5 days. So it was useless by then not to mention going after to recoup the cost from paying out of pocket.

So here's the issues/stress I've been dealing with, what can I claim under her insurance? (She has USAA, which apparently is good insurance)

    1. I missed my first flight ($173.30)
    2. It's been extremely hard not having a car (getting groceries, going to the gym, visiting gf, or going any place), so I have to uber/lyft for the past 2 months and still have to. Not only that, but this was also during Thanksgiving and Christmas, which made it extremely difficult to get around.
    3. The rental car money that I didn't use from her insurance
    4. The stress/hassle of going 2 months with no car, stress dreams, phone calls/emails with insurance.

My insurance company wants me to give a statement to other party insurance company and then file a claim for medical and pain and suffering

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 12:18 PM PST

I just wanted to check and see if all this sounded a-ok. I've never been in a wreck. Here is what happened:

wife was driving straight through a light when an elderly woman turned left and hit us head-on. She went straight to the hospital so I never got to talk to her. I filed a claim w/ my insurance company, they gave me a check for my car minus my deductible. I was then told she was at fault after they reviewed the police report. The adjuster called to talk to me, and during the conversation he told me I needed to call the other adjuster (representing the elderly ladies insurance company) to give a statement. He also told me I needed to file a claim with them for injury and pain and suffering. We had our baby with us but he is fine, my wife was sore but alright. I have an injured shoulder/collarbone but no broken bones. My doctor said it may be my rotator cuff but that it wasn't a full tear. I still don't have full use of my left arm but I have been getting better, I should start physical therapy in a week or two.

Anyways, do I have to call and give a statement to the other adjuster? Also, is it normal for me to have to make a separate claim with her insurance for the medical stuff? What can I expect from that conversation?

Driver at fault’s insurance won’t pay shop it’s fees to release car to continue my claim

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:18 PM PST

My daughters car was in an accident the day after Christmas but her bf was the driver. Her bf's dad insisted he take the car to his shop(not his literal business owned shop, but one he's been using for many years). Police report came out and determined the other driver was at fault and they would be handling my claim. Driver at fault's insurance contacts me and says "the shop has a storage fee of $200 a day and because they were notified (by my insurance) a couple weeks ago, the insurance is only allowed to pay for the time since the day they were notified." The shop is asking for $5k+ in order to release the car but the other drivers insurance is saying they can only pay $1200. They asked me if I could call the shop and ask them "to just release the car to us."

The insurance also told me they are totaling the car. Everyone involved in the accident is ok.

Does this insurance have the right to refuse payment to release my car to continue claim? Who should I contact? Is my insurance at fault for informing them late and is responsible for paying the difference to release the car from the shop? Any advice is appreciated.

TLDR: Daughters car was in an accident. Other driver at fault. The shop the car is in is charging the insurance company $5k+ to release the car over. Other insurance says they can only pay $1200 since they were informed late of where the car was.

    Diminished Value EPTX

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 12:19 AM PST

Short story: My father in law rear ended my 2019 Charger GT a week ago. I bought the car new in Sept 2019. My car had 6200 miles on it the day of the accident . Insurance adjuster finally got around to doing the estimated damages on my vehicle yesterday ($4,307.28) Damages. Don't know if there will be supplemented damages after they disassemble everything else. I did a little research on local sales prices on used 2019 Chargers in my area, and I've only got two lol they're priced at $28k and some change. I looked up KBB and Edmunds value on my car currently and it's between $22.5k-$23k PRE-ACCIDENT . Is it fair for me to ask for $5000 in DV? Heck even meet halfway at $2500? How about for me to go through my insurance (State Farm) and then have them pursue the the DV claim later through my father in law insurance (Liberty Mutal)?

Is what's considered "preventative" healthcare codified by law?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 11:26 PM PST

Is there a list of what's legally "preventative" healthcare and everything else the HMO gets to bill for?

Every single time I go in for my annual check up and/or labs they find a way to bill me for it, even though it's supposed to be free.

Here's today's explanation for why I'm getting billed for my labs:

Per your account you were billed for the following labs which are not considered preventive according to health care reform.

    • Transferase Alanine Amino Alt
    • Creatinine Blood
    • Potassium Serum Plasma / Whole blood

I'm not sick at all. I don't take any medications. For the last 20 years I've been short a kidney (donated one) so the creatinine test is probably to make sure it's still going strong, which it is.

Are they fucking with me or is there actually a list of the things that they have to give away for "free"?

    At-fault driver's insurance won't return my calls.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:08 PM PST

At-fault driver has paid for the damages for my car.

I opened a medical liability claim with them. I had some muscular injuries and I went to see a doctor for it.

Doctor only prescribed pain meds, so I went to see the chiropractor. Even then, I'm not 100%.

Called the at-fault driver's insurance company to see what I can do to close the claim... a few times and left voicemails.

    No calls back.

    What do I do now?

How can I keep my medical care more private while on my parent’s insurance?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 03:43 PM PST

I'm 24 (with a job) but remain on my parent's insurance to save money. I have younger siblings, so I don't make my parents a family plan.

I have some fairly frequent medical appointments and prefer to keep them private. I get the bills (from the hospital organization) in the mail to my name and pay them. Usually it's the co-pay and any office procedure/evaluation/scan charge. I'll usually just pay them myself. Most recently, I got a bill in the mail for something like $70 (two recent office visits and x-rays/interpretation).

My dad just mentioned that he got a $400 bill in my name. He's happy to pay it and just wanted to make sure "I'm healthy and happy". I have no idea where they might be from — maybe bloodwork I had done at my yearly physical recently?

Regardless, I'd like to keep things a bit more private and vetted before he sees them. Is this possible while still on their insurance?

[GA] We decided to handle minor car accident outside insurance claim, what should I have in writing?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 09:28 PM PST

Hello. I was in a very minor accident where I was at fault and tapped the rear end of another vehicle. It was not enough to damage my vehicle at all, I mean there is zero damage. The other vehicle looks fine in pictures but the other driver is saying the bumper cover clips are broken and it's going to be about $1000-1500 to repair. My deductible is high at $2000 and I'd obviously rather not have him make a claim although he does have my insurance info. I'm fine with giving him $1000 if I can get it in writing that he won't file against insurance after that. Any suggestions about what verbiage the statement should say? Also he said "well if it ends up costing more than $1000 I'm going to let you know and you need to pay the additional amount" which seems sketchy to me. The damage is certainly not bad but he did get me 3 quotes which is helpful. What if after paying him the $1000 he says I need to give him like another $800 or else he will go file an insurance claim? I'd like to make sure we have it in writing but not sure exactly what to write so that if he calls my insurance company they have the ammo to reject his claim. Thoughts?

Do we purchase Permanent life insurance for child(ren)

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 01:44 PM PST

Hi there! We have one child 22 months and another due in April.

We (common law wife and I) have our own personal term insurance.

Should we get permanent insurance for the kids? I am reasonably familiar with insurance but really don't know what makes the most sense here? Also I am in Canada if that makes a difference.

    Thanks so much in advance

New Employee who screwed up on Benefits enrollment

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 08:10 PM PST

Apologies if this is the in the wrong subreddit, please point me in the proper one if this is the case (I also posted this on r/ HealthInsurance. Long story short but I just moved and started a new job, my first in fact. I "enrolled" for benefits this morning and I thought I had selected dental/medical and vision plans. I checked out the because I thought everything looked good and I read somewhere that I could change it later on.

Unfortunately, when I got home I just check on the website to write down and keep track of my benefits. Someone I ended up with no benefits selected and there's no way for me to change them without a "life-changing event". Is there anything I can do? I do need coverage and I'm 27 so I'm no longer eligible for care under my parents. I've never had to deal with anything like this because my parents always took care of this kind of stuff for me. I'm absolutely freaking out and any advice would be great.

This is absolutely my fault and I take responsibility for it but I want to know what options I have. I will talk to people at my company tomorrow but I'm preparing for the worst.

    Minor Graze Car Accident

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:58 PM PST

So tonight I was involved in very very minor accident. Both of our cars were traveling in separate lanes in the same direction (He was to my right and I was ahead of him). A car going the opposite direction made a left turn, but stopped right in the path of the other cars lane because he didnt realize a pedestrian was walking and the car that hit me had to options. Either 1) T bone the car that stopped in front of him as there was no way he would be able to stop at the speed he was going and distance available or 2) maneuver just enough into my lane to avoid the T bone. Thankfully he chose 2, but in doing so he just grazed my passenger side rear bumper with his driver side front bumper. We pulled over and exchanged information and we both agreed there is no reason to contact police as the damage was very minor to both of our cars and because no one was injured. In any other situation I would probably contact police and file a claim with his insurance (we exchanged information), but his only other option in this scenario would have been crashing into the left turning car causing serious injury to either driver or the pedestrian. I'd feel guilty for calling his insurance, filing a claim, and him having to pay a deductible that is probably more that what the damage is worth for avoiding a serious accident. But I'm conflicted in what to do and just wanted some insight into the situation.

Do multiple, simultaneous claims make your car insurance rate go up?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 03:22 PM PST

My car got thrashed by negligent drivers while parked on the street during the winter.

Insurance wants me to make separate claims for each spot (3 or 4) in total.

Will this make my insurance rate go up?

    Thank you for your input!!

Trying to get proof of which Apple Watch Model I own

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 06:57 PM PST

So, I work in claims myself for medical insurance so I don't have experience with property claims.

My insurer has approved a claim for my Apple Watch which was damaged from falling onto concrete, they've sent the approval to a local retailer for me to pick up a replacement. The only problem is, my watch was a series 3 with cellular, and the insurer need me to show proof it's a cellular version and not just GPS.

I've checked my invoice from where I bought it, receipts, my Apple ID login - but all they say is "Apple Watch Series 3". I'm a bit stuck, how can I prove this? The original box it came in is in storage in another country so that's not an option.

Is there anywhere I could search the serial number that the watch has printed on it? The Assessor suggested that if it's possible.

My car was declared total loss today by my insurance company. I am thinking about getting the ACV payment, keeping the car and get it fixed. My car is 10 years old and as I read at https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/forms-documents/Documents/SalvageandBranding_Just_the_Facts.pdf my car will not got the salvage title, I can get it fixed and continue buying the liability insurance. Is that true?

Insurance Companies Preferred Shop Charged My Insurance Company For Work They Later Admitted They Didn’t Do?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 05:37 PM PST

Hey guys new here to this subreddit. I am just entirely lost at this point and I am not sure where to go so I left it to trusty reddit for some advice.

    Long story short

Time:June of 2018 my vehicle was hit on the back left side causing 5500$ in damages

December of 2018 my vehicle was hit on the back left side causing 3600$ in damages(Same Spot)

The preferred repair shop still hadn't fixed the chrome on the back bumper as of January of 2020-The day I had brought it into the shop to be corrected I left with the chrome still not fixed/a broken tail light and as I was driving down the road I noticed a flat tire due to a nail. I brought it in there for them to fix it yet I left with more damages. I finally had enough after it not being settled since 2018. I had called my adjuster and asked them for a new shop to go and explained what was going on they mentioned they would get back to me.

A few days later I had brought my Mercedes GLK(the vehicle Involved in the accidents back to back )into the shop for a mechanical inspection my mechanic had told me the back rear cradle needed to be replaced as the bushings are shot and the job is a pricey one & that I am better off getting rid of the vehicle with the amount of back end problems I've had with it since the accident (left axles/toning rings/etc) all back end parts might I remind you.

After this news was given to me the adjuster had called me and I voiced my concerns about there preferred shop cutting cost on my vehicle and over looking the rear cradle as I believe it was compromised in the accident and wasn't corrected therefore I've been driving around with a damaged rear subframe and from there on out it was a domino affect of problems in the related area of the accident.

My insurance adjuster of course argued with me and told me the shop had sent over the first accident report and it included a 3D graph that stated the alignment/frame on the first accident had no damage to it however they are waiting for the second accident report with the 3D computer alignment graph to prove the subframe and frame were okay. A week later my adjuster had called me and stated that there preferred shop had gotten back to them and told them that they didn't do a alignment check on the vehicle after the second accident because they deemed it was just a scratch (3500$ in repairs but just a scratch) however they charged my insurance company for the alignment but didn't fulfill there duty. They were forced to send back the insurance the 100$ for the alignment they admitted to not doing on the second accident.

After my adjuster had stated this information he had told me had talked to his supervisor and that they would be needing pictures of the subframe.

I just went to my mechanic today and received pictures and the bushings look rotted. I am very concerned my insurance is going to say that this damage was due to wear and tare because of the rust and not write off the vehicle or repair leaving me with the bill.

What should I do ? I am in Canada if anybody knows the laws for insurance etc of this nature feel free to help out.

Thanks for taking the time to read !

    Lightning damage

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 05:35 PM PST

I filed a lightning and surge claim with my homeowners insurance, The agent was rude and is treating me as though I did something wrong. 2 electricians have stated that the lightning strike caused power surges for 16-18 hours straight and that everything in the house was compromised. Lightning hit our pipe on the pole above the meter and then burned holes in the panel box and the positive wire melting it in half. Insurance wants to settle for a little over 3000 and only wants to pay for 2 of the 24 items I claimed that was acting like they were ready to go out. What do I do this is a very unfair settlement.

    car insurance mileage (UK)

my car insurance is due soon and my mileage has significantly increased recently so i will need to put more miles on my insurance. I've worked out i will probably need either 13,000 or 14,000 miles on my policy this year but they seem like pretty odd numbers, would i be able to insure for that or would it have to be more like 10,000 or 15,000 etc.?

Is having two kaiser plans at once smart?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 03:18 PM PST

I need surgery and it'll be expensive. I'm currently on my mother's bronze kaiser plan and at a minimum the surgery will cost me 7300$ for my deductible under her plan. If I purchase my own at 500$ a month for my premium I have no deductible and amounts to about 6500$ for the year.

My question is if I purchase my own plan while I'm on hers will my procedure be applied to my plan or hers? Is this smart?
