Ideas for a someone looking to start a business?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 01:45 AM PST

Hi everyone, I'm new here, and new to the whole business-minded area. I'm actually looking for a couple of ideas and tips. The first is identifying business niches, as I'm looking to start dropshipping. The second is more of a question than anything - Are networking websites profitable? I have an idea that acts as a networking platform for musicians, but I'm struggling to figure out whether the endeavour would be profitable. (If you'd like any more info on my idea, I'd be happy to talk to someone via private message).

    Trademark business name question

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 06:56 PM PST

Hello everyone. I have a service business on the East coast and registered it in 2016. Recently I have been looking into branding and I want to trade mark my business name as we grow and plan on franchising. Here is my situation:

I'm in a state on east coast. Let's say for example my business name is " electric force" but I googled "electric force" and " California electric force" comes up and has been in business for about 10 years already.

Can I still trade mark my business name and be able to use it? Theirs is not trademarked and it is not in the United States data base for trademarks. Thank you.

How do you recommend making clients pay invoices within the due date? Sometimes I feel like sending a really passive-aggressive email with instructions....

My friend and I are looking into purchasing a franchise. We are looking for a mainly autonomous franchise that would require us to hire managers and workers to do most of of the work. We have looked into chik fil a and dunkin donuts. Which is the cheapest and easy to get in?

Are CEOs and other corporate executives obligated to avoid taxes for the benefit of their shareholders?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 09:49 AM PST

I've been hearing a lot about how the super rich are so rich because they make sure their corporations avoid paying taxes by using tax havens and what not. So far as I understand it, while miser-like, these practices are technically legal in the US.

Since public companies have shareholders and the executives of a company have a fiduciary responsibility to their companies shareholders, even if a CEO like Bezos decided to stop using loopholes and tax havens and start paying whatever taxes his company owes, could his company's board of directors kick him out for not doing everything legal to make the highest return on investment for the shareholders?

    Hiring a Management Company

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 03:26 PM PST

I am in the process of acquiring several companies at once and I do not want to spend too much time in the day-to-day operations. I was on a flight with a healthcare executive who owns a few nursing homes in Ontario and he mentioned he hired a third-party management company that basically manage, hire, fire and pay the employees of all of the businesses he owns. He said the management company is paid 3.5% of the businesses top line revenue. Because of this, his time is freed up to make more acquisitions which is the freedom I would like to have.

Now I was a moron and I didn't ask him the name of that company because I assumed there were a ton out there but after some research I have mostly consultants as opposed to management firms that will be able to oversee operations etc.. Would any of you happen to know of such companies or where to look?

    Social Networking

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 12:02 PM PST

Being a ux designer, I'm working on a social networking site that'll cater to Business owners or future entrepreneurs.
It is something similar to Linkedin, I was looking for opinions of ppl who do come under those 2 categories.

What do you feel is lacking in such professional platforms interms of users interacting/connecting with each other? perhaps some limitations related to UI? a feature you might deem critical to have or a totally new idea/feature that could do wonders for you.
Would really really appreciate some thoughts on it.

Running a business during a recession?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 11:11 AM PST

What's up guys. Been thinking about this a lot lately and I'm sure most of you have too.

Our economy just keeps growing and growing.. Whenever our next recession happens, it most likely isn't going to be a good one obviously.

I'm 20 years old and own several businesses online. Our last recession was when I was younger so I never really have went through one in terms of me being in a professional career.

I have a lot saved and want to invest in real estate as we come out of the recession. However - I do a lot of marketing and promotional content with my team of social media creators and photographers for businesses from restaurants to chiropractors and mattress stores. I understand this business is going to be dramatically effected. All my other businesses are surrounded around a customer base from 18-25ish so that won't be effected to much from what I understand due to the price points and age group.

What industries are going to be dramatically effected? Does anybody have any tips for protecting yourself during a recession.

What services would be needed during a recession that one could offer to businesses and individuals?

Thanks guys! And I hope this post helps others that read it as well. Let's crush 2020!
