Shoutout to all the Interns starting tomorrow or next Monday

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:33 PM PST

Fuck, we all drank the kool aid. Remember, we all are thinking we won't be good at this. Even seniors admit they don't know what the fuck they're doing half the time.

3.5 months it will all be over. Unless we get a FT offer (shutters)

    We can do this!!

Rant: I hate my job...Looking for advice from those who switched out of Accounting

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 02:07 PM PST

I have held various accounting jobs for the past 4 years. I'm currently a Staff Accountant 2 at a mid-size company and I hate it. I've also worked in accounting for distribution and manufacturing companies in the past. I don't enjoy the fact that every month end and year end, I can't take off or go home early although I have my work done early. I've also found that at the companies I've worked at, my supervisors give me a hard time for using PTO outside of month/year end. I find that every office environment I've worked in has been toxic one way or another. It's pretty boring outside of month end even with extra tasks given to me by my superiors. I'm also unhappy with my salary, and the company I work at only gives raises up to 3%. I found out that even my ass kissing coworker only got a 2.7% raise in the past year.

I have a MBA in finance and my bachelor's degree is in psychology. I make 45k before taxes in the Fort Mill SC/Charlotte NC area, which I've researched is considered pretty low. I have no desire to get my CPA or CMA after being told from other CPAs and CMAs that they work 50-60 hours per week. I'm looking for advice from those who have switched from accounting to something else? I've looked into nursing, engineering, or IT. I'm an introverted person and have Aspergers. Ideally, I'd like to work remotely. Every job I've had in accounting, I wake up not looking forward going into work.

    Getting an industry job.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:12 PM PST

    Hi,

I'm a CPA and left my job as a Senior Accountant in external audit in September 2019. At the time I was going through some personal issues and wanted to make a career change. Little did I know that the job market was cold. Hopefully the new year changes things.

I want to break into an industry role as a financial analyst but, I feel like I'm lacking on the technology side of things. I was looking into taking a training course or program that helps develop those types of skills. Are there any programs that you guys would recommend?

Anything will help. Thanks in advance.

Opportunities to work internationally at big 4 form?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:07 PM PST

I will soon begin working for a big4 firm in advisory. Does anyone know how easy it is to go on an international succumbent? I would like to work for my firm's office in Europe for a year or so. I am from the US. How long would I have to work before I could realistically be able to do this?

Aspiring Accountant (1st Time Post on here)

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:01 PM PST

I am 19 and currently going into my 2nd semester of college (freshman), and I am just concerned about my future. I really want to get my CPA credentials but I am just uncertain about everything:

    1. I am scared of not being able to find a "good" job with my degree, I keep hearing about people working for bad companies and just hate their jobs or just having trouble finding one.
    2. What do I expect to negotiate as my first salary? (Degree in accounting, with and/or without CPA title) I know looking at glassdoor and other places exist, but its weird to get a true number. (And tbh I dont know what to look at)
    3. Networking events: What do I even do there? It all sounds fake to me
    4. Job Progression: It varies per company/firm but if I ask and get some mundane answer it just tells me that maybe I should look somewhere else? (Idk)
    5. Whats it like when I am taking the classes, and how it looks like to actually apply them into real life work.

I would really appreciate any accountants, CPAs or just anyone who can help and offer any advice for this career. I really want to make a career out of this but I just feel a bit confused, so I would rather ask now than in my 3rd year going into this. I cant really ask anyone I know as I am a first gen student.

Auditors: what’s the coolest/most interesting audit you have done?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:58 AM PST

I'm interested in those who have worked for cool/popular companies like in the entertainment industry or luxury bands or had famous clients- also if you just went to a cool place because of auditing or learned something interesting about a product while you were on an audit?

Tips for starting your first job out of public accounting?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:20 PM PST

I'm putting my notice in soon as I just landed a job outside of public accounting. I feel like I was so babied since joining Big4 out of college that I don't know what to expect and am slightly worried.

What can I do in the next 2 weeks to prepare before I begin? Mentally or any actual preparation?

    Internship

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 03:42 PM PST

So I just accepted an accounting internship and they didn't exactly specify a dress code just "no jeans, sneakers, and no T-shirts". What would you recommend I wear as a woman. I don't want to be too dressy but I don't want to come off as lazy either. Thanks.

[CAD] Need tips for 4 months off time

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 12:32 PM PST

    Hi guys!

I am a soon to be university graduate starting my full time job at a mid-tier PA firm in September 2020. My semester will end at the end of April 2020 which leaves me with 4 months of off time before I start.

What are some productive things I could do to get myself ready for the CPA grind and I am looking for summer jobs too by the way.

Will be going for a Asia trip for 2-3 weeks as well.

    Thank you!

What are some good accounting-related volunteering opportunities for students to put on resumes?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:36 PM PST

I want to stand out and get attention from Big 4 at a relatively non-target school. I heard being involved in student organizations and volunteering is something Big 4 recruiters specifically look for. Any tips? Thanks everyone.

    [CAD] CPABC Fast Track

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 04:42 PM PST

    Hi guys,

Does anyone have prior experience with the fast track program with CPABC. You are required to complete Core 1 and Core 2 simultaneously from May to end ofJune.

I'm currently debating whether do this or actually enjoying my last summer before I start full time with a mid Tier firm in September.

    Thoughts?

[WA] CPA Exam Application: What to do with 32 AP transfer credits

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:46 AM PST

In my state (Washington) we are required to send transcripts from the insitiutions where transfer credits were earned. In my case, I was able to transfer 32 quarter credits from the AP classes I took in high school to college. The only problem is, the application fourm can't list any high schools and I can't otherwise write in the name. There is no indication on my college transcript of where the transfer credits were earned, nor the fact they are AP credits.

Does anyone here had success in sending in just their college transcripts and having their application approved? If not, what is the correct way about solving this issue?
