8 niches that will ALWAYS make money (A Guide)

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:56 PM PST

There are 8 basic human needs that every person desires according to Ca$hvertising author, Drew Eric Whitman.

In his book on advertising and marketing, he states that there will always be a desire to obtain the following 8 things. Whitman calls them the Life Force 8:

    1. Survival, enjoyment of life, life extension
    2. Enjoyment of food and beverages
    3. Freedom from fear, pain, and danger
    4. Sexual companionship
    5. Comfortable living conditions
    6. To be superior, winning, keeping up with the Joneses
    7. Care and protection of loved ones
    8. Social approval

Because these 8 things are basic human wants, there will always be a market for it. Even as markets and trends fluctuate, you can expect to make money if you focus in on any one of the 8 categories and offer a product or service in it.

Yes, other categories exist but Whitman argues that these are the primary, deep down categories that all humans want.

A fun thought experiment with this list is to take your favorite brand or company and see where they fit on this list. Do you they only hit on one of the 8? Multiple? Where does Apple fit – I'd wager #8.

Every time I launch a new product or service I like to refer to this list and see if it falls under any of these. If it does, business will just be that much easier.

What do you guys think of this list? Agree with them? Disagree?

Brainstorming: Co funding between members here whitelabel apps, that each can use.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 09:28 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

I was just thinking about this. Let's say that there are a number of people here from different countries that want to develop a similar MVP concept. We could pool money for developing a stronger product, and everyone that contributes money can use the app as whitelabel.

This probably would work better with stuff that is for local businesses, since you don't want to compete with eachother if its for global scale.

But I was just thinking if it would make sense, what do you think?

Does anyone know the best way to put a design on a T-shirt?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 08:41 AM PST

I've recently started a business selling long sleeve thermals. I've now got to the point where I'd like to put my logo on my products, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this. Most of the places a I see online only either only let you embroider their own T-shirts or sell heat-applied vinyls with a horrible border around the logo. Does anyone know of anywhere that I could order vinyls that are of high quality or of a place where I can send my thermal T-shirts to be embroidered.

    Thanks

Anyone here needs their Google Ads Campaign reviewed

Knowing that selling is the #1 skill in business but yet still most entrepreneurs struggle to get even their first sale. I wanted to help pay it forward.

So if you have anything you need help with regarding Google Ads, make sure to comment this post or send me a private message. I'll do a quick review and give you pointers on how to make your campaign better.

I got tired of only working with individuals and having school/cityhall contracts from time to time. How do you find clients in order to work on mass production? (E.g. 2000 products at a time instead of 3-10). I do advertising material production.

I have a friend with 500k IG followers and 50-100k likes per picture. How can I monetize this?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 01:26 PM PST

My friend is lazy and has no interest in pursuing monetization. I managed to convince him to do the monetization for him. How much should I be charging (% commission) and even better, what should I be doing?

I was thinking about merch and product placement but I have no idea about how to find customers for the latter.

    Thanks!

Wanting to start my own beauty brand

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 01:47 PM PST

I've been sitting on this for the last 3 years but I have no idea how to go about it. Now I finally have the money to invest and definitely the time. I've done my research but I am still very lost. I have researched the different labs and the steps to go about it. But how do I exactly go about it? I have 4 kids and this is definitely something I don't want to blindly invest in and hurt myself and my family in the end. I have tons of ideas and I know the audience I am reaching. Can anyone give me insight that has done this? The initial start up? The steps to getting there? Lab and label recommendations? The ins and outs? Please, I would appreciate everything. Thank you so much.

How can I maximize my sales on a Facebook page with 750K followers?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 10:36 AM PST

My family member runs this Facebook page (not specifically naming it because I don't want Google SEO to match up to this post) a spiritual page surrounding inspirational quotes grounded in a take-off of Buddhist/Hindu principals. The page has 750K likes and a 1M reach (this week). Here is a snapshot of the general analytics of the page. Here is an example of the advertisements I am putting on the page.

In an effort to monetize the page, I created a Shopify store called Mantraness to match merchandise up to the page's base. I landed on spiritual jewelry, such as Buddha/Chakra bracelets and gemstones. However, based on the very large reach of the page, I only have a 2.6% conversion rate (about 5-10 sales a day), and that is reliant on a FB post to bring in the traffic for that day. Here is a screenshot of my site analytics for more detail.

/r/Entrepreneur, do you guys have any potential recommendations based on this situation? Thanks so, so much!

Don't you think Freelancer is a SPAM site?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 10:18 AM PST

Lol. I didn't knew I already have an account on freelancer since 2014 and never completed a project there. I have been always busy with my full time job and since 2+ years have been doing freelancing only from reddit and PPH. I am always busy with my freelancing works and some of my own websites that's pay me enough for a better life. Today I thought to try freelancer and what I found I already have an account there which has never been deactivated. Secondly, when I submitted my bid to some of the projects I found all other freelancers bids and what they have written is SHIT. I couldn't stop laughing looking to those bids. Moreover, I sign NDA before starting any job since I think client secrecy is the most important one but freelancer never cares about those things. 3rd world freelancers are bidding heavily looks like they want the job at any cost. They are providing plenty of sample works which can be easily pitched for digital marketing and there is no client secrecy at all. I treat it as SPAM site and will never bid there. What are your thoughts? Is it good to read what others are offering with their sample links?

800 and 1200 square feet available in downtown area. Any ideas?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 01:58 PM PST

My aunt has a building in a metropolitan city that is currently under construction and has space to rent. I am currently thinking of business ideas that I can start up to rent a space.

So far in the building there is a boutique hostel in construction. It will take up the entire second floor and a small portion (lobby) of the ground floor. There are two spaces available for rent - 800 sq. feet and 1200 sq. feet.

Since the building is in construction now we have the benefit of building what we need rather than having to demo and renovate.

Does anyone have lucrative ideas for this type of space that has minimal building cost? Something that would be good for a downtown area?

As of now the best idea we can think of is a daycare center/indoor playground. We have a small child so that has the added benefit to us but the cost of insurance/permits has me re-considering.

Free Promotion For Crypto-Friendly Small Businesses

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 01:41 PM PST

I'm working with a small group of affected users from Quadriga Coin Exchange. As you may know, the exchange ended up stealing the life savings of tens of thousands of Canadians. We have an idea to create a token representing losses that can be exchanged for discounts at various businesses. The basic idea being that victims can trade for example $20 of their losses (represented in the token which we only give out after a verification process) for a $20 discount on different products/services. We'd be putting together and promoting massively the list of partner businesses.

If you run a small business, I'm curious your thoughts, and whether this is something you might be interested in being a part of. Initial spots on our list are first come first serve, and we have six spots filled so far. Happy to answer any questions I'm sure you have!

Does anyone have any experience creating a product from an established franchise ie. movies?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 01:01 PM PST

    Hey all,

So my interest and experience in business so far deals with the typical shit in today's world - websites, online business, apps, social media, copywriting, digital marketing etc.

But the other night my wife and I watched a movie from a popular series, and we thought of a product we thought would be brilliant (As everyone does) and I want to look into how to go about it, to see if it's feasible.

Problem is, I have no idea how to go about it? Is there even an option for individual entrepreneurs to create products from an established film, book etc. franchise? I'm sure there's a boatload of licensing issues to deal with, paperwork, lawyers etc...but is it possible? And how?

By way of example, let's say Star Wars just came out...and no one's thought of it, but I have the brilliant idea of making the lightsabers into an actual toy. How would I, simple Joe Schmoe sitting in my igloo, go about it? Not necessarily from the manufacturing point of view, but from dealing with the studio, trademarks, etc?

Appreciate any insight and/or resources into this :)

    How do I track sales commission of my employees? {software needed}

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 12:05 PM PST

I have a digital product I'm about to start offering to businesses. I want to hire my cousin to help generate sales. I'm going to offer her a commission-only type deal. The product is $1,000 and I'm going to offer her $200 commission if she sells it.

I'm giving the customer two payment choices:

    1. Product is $1000 if paid in full.
    2. Product is $120/mo. for 12months if paid monthly. (subscription-based)

She will receive $200 for either of those choices above.

Question: Can you give me a list of popular commission tracking software?

    • Something that integrates with HubSpot.
    • Something that has a front end where my cousin can see what she will be getting each month and when a new entry is made.
    • Something that will calculate the proper payout per month if the customer chooses to pay monthly, so 200/12= $16.66 commission payout per month to my employee once the customer pays the $120 bill.

Ideally, I want a piece of software (or 2) that will allow me to integrate into Hubspot and set up reoccurring payments where it automatically takes from the customer's CC each month and then sends the "customer paid" information to some commission tracking software where I then can pay out my employees accordingly.

    Social Networking

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 11:52 AM PST

Being a ux designer, I'm working on a social networking site that'll cater to Business owners or future entrepreneurs.
It is something similar to Linkedin, I was looking for opinions of ppl who do come under those 2 categories.

What do you feel is lacking in such professional platforms interms of users interacting/connecting with each other? perhaps some limitations related to UI? a feature you might deem critical to have or a totally new idea/feature that could do wonders for you.
Would really really appreciate some thoughts on it.

Would selling bamboo be a good idea?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 11:05 AM PST

I live near a large bamboo forest and I thought selling the bamboo & seeds would be interesting. Nothing but animals go in the forest but there is telephone pole wires on the ground. Would I have to buy the land before selling the bamboo or is it free game?

I think "The $100 Startup" by Chris Guillebeau is a great read. Any other books of its kind?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 01:47 AM PST

I've found Chris' guide to micro-entrepreneurship an amazing cross between 'better yourself' and 'break into starting your own business'.

I'm heading off for a 5-day vacation and was hoping for some additional recommendations. They don't need to be completely similar. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I've had an offer from someone to buy my website. Should I sell?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 10:22 AM PST

I created a website which provides a free service that other websites charge for. User provides a serial number of a product, my site calculates a code which is useful to the user.

Lots of sites charge $5 - $15 for this service, mine does it instantly for free.

Google decided to rank my site very high (#1 on the key search term, and 2nd or 3rd for others). This has caused my site to rank higher than the paid for sites, so basically, the other sites aren't making money anymore.

I had some backlash from one competitor, but another has offered me $1,300 for the website.

So far the site hasn't cost me much, and I get occasional donations and a very small amount from some affiliate links, but that's it.

Should I sell for 1300usd or hold out for a better offer?

    Sales Rep and commission limits

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 10:17 AM PST

    Hello,

I was cold called by a sales rep with a national reach. She has a primary job working for an overseas company as a USA rep for a VERY niche high end product. It seems she does side work in products that parallel her main employer.

We have discussed a commission I am happy with but what I am curious about, if anyone can shed light/recommendations, is when she discussed getting commission for word of mouth type referrals. She mentioned some of her retailers shop each other and often if they see an appealing new product they would may contact me directly and is asking that she get that as a referral/commission.

Thoughts? Basically I call shenanigans if I am cold called by a separate retailer just because they saw my product in a store she sold to.

What does the contract language for this look like? Do contracts explicitly cover something like this?

but at the same time I want to support her if things go well and have no doubt retailers may contact me directly wanting to cut her out.

One thing I am thinking is possibly a diminished commission for a cold call for her services to work as an account manager if indeed things get busy.

Hope I am clear enough in what I am asking.

How do you go about building relationships through Linkedin?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:01 PM PST

I try to connect with people who have started business or know they might be of help later whenever I need advice or help. I've connected with CEO's and startup advisers etc, but when I message them to get to know them I get left at seen. Now I know they're busy or probably getting these messages left and right, but what other way do you go with building personal relationships with these people or getting to know them? I feel like the foundation should be there in case if I ever reach out for help rather than asking for help out of the blue.

I know I sound like a total noob, so any advice or suggestion would help. If you've been in this situation or know how to go about it, I'd appreciate your help in advance.

Where can I submit a product to showcase/gain product feedback without an NDA/patent filed??

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 08:25 AM PST

    Is that even a possibility??

I've never really been a big NDA guy in my past. That being said, I'm brining to market a new product that can be easily mirrored (it's not complex). I'm past family and friends with a V1 product, now looking for V2 product feedback from an unbiased audience.

Does anyone have an idea of achieving this goal? Maybe there's a community/app/portal I can go through to achieve this goal in a confidential manner..

Open to any ideas! Even if it's just not possible, re-confirmation is good enough if that is the case.

My Story- Looking for all kinds of advice (Rags to ???)

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 08:19 AM PST

I'm a 20 year old male from Atlanta who can build a palace out of hopes and dreams. I come from a very intelligent and conscious family with almost nothing monetary to show for it and they almost don't see the potential in themselves that I see in them. I could write a book about my upbringing but to make a long story short we've been homeless, in and out of motels for long periods of time and everybody we've thought we could lean on for support has proven the exact opposite. I am by NO MEANS looking for pity but I'm trying to emphasize how I've had very little opportunity. I have ZERO credibility (not even a high school diploma) aside from what I'm able to express through words and to my knowledge that's not enough. I've been kind of socially isolated a good chunk of my life as well. But I'm a very motivational guy and I have the ability to help people see my vision or even see potential in themselves they weren't aware of. I worked as a stock clerk at Publix for about a year and a half and through that experience I found out my time was too valuable to be wasted working for 14/hr. I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur but the idea of me having to be back to the clock in x amount of time was a hindrance to me. I was attempting to pay off my $2000 credit card debt I worked up from buying my parents a car after the family vehicle was repossessed. But other bills kept getting in the way and I started to dread wasting my time stocking shelves more and more everyday. So I walked out.

I'm attempting to start a clothing brand with about $1500 and my first product is in production right now but it's a lot of waiting around. And I was under the impression that I had support behind my decision (I spoke to everyone in the household before I made the decision to leave my job). But it's evident that we're not on the same page as a collective. They're constantly throwing the idea of me working again in my face, I'm here to see if you guys have any advice on how I could establish some sort of cash flow with say $1000 in a short amount of time or even investing it into a consultant or anything of that nature. Any advice at all is greatly appreciated.

    I need a suggestion

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 08:19 AM PST

First of all i have a business idea. The demand for it exists (almost no competition) and i am kinda creating a business plan for it at the moment. Right now i am a 21yo student in my first semester of economics, so i need 2 more years to finish my bba. Therefore my knowledge of creating and leading a business is barely existing. But I am always willing to learn and improve my skills, even though it means to study 10h/day.

My questions are: Should I continue studying to finish my bba in 2 years? The problem with this might be that the competition will increase rapidly over the next 2 years. Or should I set up the business and do like learning by doing and finish my bba in like 5 years or never. I dont feel like I am able to create a business, but there has to be a first time. So pls help me if you were in a similar situation.
