What keeps you going when owning a business gets hard? Posted: 04 Dec 2019 08:59 AM PST This past Thanksgiving (in the US), my Mom had to leave early to go work at Target. She took a job there recently because she and my Dad need to make a little more. She has never had to do that all growing up, and it broke my heart to see her in her red sweater leaving our family gathering. I have never sold so hard after coming back to work, in order to prevent her from ever having to do that again. [link] [comments]

What Should I Know About International Shipping? Here is What I Have so Far. Posted: 04 Dec 2019 06:09 PM PST I'm starting up a U.S. based company that will mostly be shipping normal clothing items in consumer quantities via online orders. I've signed up for Pirateship (free) to get their amazing international, "Simple Export Rate" discounts for my shipments. This method does not come with insurance but they recommend that I always purchase the third-party insurance. I have read that importing clothing products commercially into the U.S. is limited per shipment to some bulk amount (I can't remember off the top of my head). I didn't read anything regarding exports and I'm not sure about any export tariffs/duties/fees or other country import tariffs/duties/fees regarding individually shipped and retail-level products. I am operating on Woocommerce via Wordpress. I've seen that there is a way to easily activate international shipping. I plan to use a shipping calculator for the customer's shipping quotes. I have no idea about calculating taxes worldwide or if there is a good shipping calculator plugin that does this. I've seen in the terms and conditions of competitors that they tend to exclude a few (like three or four) third-world countries. My URL is a .com. I've also read something about website compliance in order to sell in the European Union and not be breaking the law there. I plan to look into this further. This is as far as I've gotten. I can't track down any articles that clearly outline shipping my products internationally. Does anyone have any further input? [link] [comments]

''Get a Quote'' pricing strategy. What do you think? Posted: 05 Dec 2019 03:41 AM PST I started a small business that has to do with video production. My question is this. Since i can not put fixed prices due to the flexible nature of this business ( running time, special effects, scriptwriting, voice over or not, if voiced over, how many words etc.) I thought about either creating multiple pricing tables on a singe page, or charging per minute, or per second. I am currently building a WordPress website myself and i am unsure as to how a ''Get a Quote'' form could lead to a potential buy. How are the businesses that operate with a ''Get a Quote'' get paid eventually? Is WooCommerce viable for this? Or do i need a different payment option? [link] [comments]

QUICK-BOOK INTEGRATION FOR SMEs Posted: 05 Dec 2019 01:30 AM PST Why small businesses should pick QuickBooks over alternatives what makes it "the best online accounting application for small businesses" and be listed as "editor's top picks"? – Let's find out. https://semanticbit.blogspot.com/2019/12/quick-book-integration-for-smes_52.html [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Dec 2019 01:12 AM PST Hello! I hope this is the correct place to post, and if it isn't I would appreciate some direction on where to cross post. A little under two years ago, my best friend started a business. She is a costume designer, and owns a talent agency and rental costume company in Las Vegas. Most of what she does right now is hiring showgirls out on the strip. I'm her general manager and handle a lot of administrative and HR work for her, and I am doing so for free because I genuinely believe in her company and her business model and I know she really needs the help, as it's growing rapidly to a place where she cannot manage everything on her own. She is very talented and very smart with a hell of a work ethic (this girl just got into a bad car accident a couple days ago and was right back in her office the next day.) Shes passionate and motivated and has the skills to make this business work. She started this business with the last $40 in her pocket. She has gone from doing this out of her bedroom to doing it out of a large office space right off the strip, that she is already outgrowing. She has her business license (it's an LLC) and everything regarding taxes handled. The thing she is having trouble with right now is finances. Despite what she's doing, she's basically breaking even. She is struggling with budgeting and making a profit. She's become extremely overwhelmed and doesn't really know where to go from here because this is becoming more than she can handle herself. She's done this all alone, she's never had investors, this is a dream she made into a reality all by herself. Here is what she needs right now: -An accountant -A budget -Security team -A seamstress -A welder -A warehouse to operate out of The trouble is that she can't currently afford these things. I guess what I'm looking for is to be pointed in the right direction - How does she find investors and financing to make it possible to get the help that she needs? Are investors always going to want equity, or is there anything else she can offer? Until she can get an accountant, what are some good budgeting tools so she can manage her finances on her own? How does she get past this block she's dealing with so she can grow? She's frustrated and I've reminded her that this is still a very new business, two years is not a long time. I'm happy to provide more information about her business over DMs. Whatever you need to know. I'm sorry if this is poorly worded, I'm not the business owner and I'm doing my best to convey the info accurately. I've been involved in her business since the very beginning, I know the ins and outs of it and I'm the only person she has trusted with that information. I'm proud of how far she HAS come and I want to do what I can to do this research for her so she can focus on the thousand other things she needs to do. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Dec 2019 07:37 PM PST I had a question about mileage and fuel deductions. Currently, I use the business account to pay for my fuel but I was tallying up my mileage on my personal deduction and realized I've driven 17k business miles. I wanted to know, if I reimbursed the business for my fuel expenses paid which is about $1600 could I take the mileage deduction at the end of the year on my personal deduction? If this isn't the way to do it, I know I can't do both. Is there any possible way to take the personal deduction at this point if the business has paid for my fuel? [link] [comments]
For entrepreneurs who struggle to gain muscle weight Posted: 05 Dec 2019 12:37 AM PST Hey everyone, hope you are having a great day. As entrepreneurs we run on a very busy schedule and that makes it hard sometimes to be able to devote some time to change our health and bodies. I'm currently trying to find out how one could make the lives of busy entrepreneurs a lot easier I am about to start my own bussiness as an online consulting coach on fitness. I want to help men gain weight and become more muscular in a body that they feel confident. Which is why i have two very simple questions: As someone very busy as you, are you experiencing issues with gainning weight? if so what do you think are the two main issues you are dealing with ? I am not promoting or selling anything only recommendations and contructive feedback Thanks so much in advance Looking forward to reading your answers. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Dec 2019 07:43 PM PST Of course this is very business and industry specific, but what kind of ecommerce shipping offerings do you utilize? We use a combination of flat rate for some products, free shipping for some, calculated for everything else. However now that we have hazardous materials that creates another challenge with multiple item orders and possibly confusion. We have found that lower prices + shipping converts better that all orders ship free. Does anyone use other strategies like free shipping over $xx, flat rate of $y under $xx? Advertising a seasonal product to a specific geographic? Posted: 04 Dec 2019 06:57 PM PST One of the products we manufacture and sell to people ourselves is very seasonal, and a very specific market buys them. We do wholesale deals to brick and mortar stores but we personally sell them online as well. Our target customers are women aged ~35-55. So far we've just run basic Facebook ads for this product with great success. Much of the sales come from organic traffic to our website as well as people telling other people about the product/ other people seeing the product and buying it. Does anyone have some other ways or more crafty ways to increase sales of this specific product? We we're overloaded with orders about a month ago but now we have double the machinery so we're more than able to take on a huge influx of orders. [link] [comments]
What services can be provided by a boat captain? Posted: 04 Dec 2019 06:34 PM PST My dream is to run a charter business. I am working on my captains license to achieve this. Since fishing charters alone are not very profitable, I was wondering, what services other than fishing/dive charters could be provided by a captain with a boat? I'm thinking small eco-tours and photography tours, hazmat cleanup, marine research. [link] [comments]
Small Business Digital Marketing Research Posted: 04 Dec 2019 02:37 PM PST I'm performing some research to find out where business owners like you are struggling to find the right people to carry out key services for your online marketing. I'd love it if you could help me to better understand your challenges by completing this completely anonymous survey -> no personal info requested (name, email, phone, etc). If you have hired, tried to hire, or considered hiring: A web designer or agency: An SEO consultant or agency: I'm trying to get a better understanding of where business owners like you are struggling the most with respect to these two services. The questionnaire is only 5 questions and shouldn't take more than a few minutes to complete. Thank you so much in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Dec 2019 06:11 PM PST Looking for rules of thumb regarding buying a company van. A small but important part of my small business's work involves pickups and deliveries. Usually we manage with our personal vehicles, but we often rent trucks for big items and often pay extra to have materials that we use to build our products delivered to our workshop (such as lumber). I test drove a well-priced van (used and I can safely pay cash) yesterday, but today, looking at our books over the past four years, we haven't spent as much on rental trucks and deliveries as the price of the van. Are there other factors I'm missing? [link] [comments]
Looking for accounting software/app with detailed Profit and Loss statements. Free to $10/month Posted: 04 Dec 2019 11:34 AM PST This is probably the only feature I will really use with the accounting software, the P&L or "Income Statement". But I keep running into companies like Wave and Xero who don't have an option to show each transaction in their P&L breakdowns. For instance it will say Advertising & Marketing - $1000. And that will be a link to another page with what the $1000 consists of but I can't have it all in the same report with them. I'd like it to be formatted basically like this for each expense category:
Anybody use a reasonably priced accounting software that merges info from your bank account and does this? I think Quickbooks does, but $25/month seems steep for this little use. Thanks for any advice. [link] [comments]

Started a digital and branding agency - onboarding clients Posted: 04 Dec 2019 05:08 PM PST I've taken the jump and setup my own marketing agency. As part of this there is also a Managed Cloud platform we've built from scratch which includes managed Magento and WordPress. We have commissioned a few large sites for e-commerce companies and I've assembled a talented team with a great portfolio. I've also designed a brand for a local consultancy firm and PPC campaigns (Google Partner certified obtained etc) The thing is, where do I go from here as to pitching my company's worth to clients as the work is admittedly drying up other than recurring clients. What's the best way forward? I see the business as differentiating itself as in this area there's no true agency. Just terrible website builders who knock out cheap templates for the bottom end of the market. I want to aim bigger and we can certainly deliver. I have some companies in mind where I can improve their online presence. How do I go about showcasing this , with mockups? Any tips? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Dec 2019 01:13 PM PST Hey everyone, So I normally don't post stuff like this on Reddit and made a throwaway, but I'm honestly at a loss for what to do. Without giving away too much information here is a rundown of the situation (I apologise for the long post) I work with my father who started a business in the medical field. He bought into a franchise and we have been open a little over a year. The first 6 months were painfully slow and he made a lot of mistakes in the beginning overspending on things like furniture and other areas. I've been working full time for him for free and there are only two employees on payroll (down from 4). Business has picked up a lot since the beginning of the year, but with insurance pay-out delays and the fact insurance pays a fraction of what we bill, cash flow has been terrible. We are consistently running out of money and he keeps having to put up more and more of his personal money or get cash advance loans to cover everything. He is personally responsible for the SBA loan and some other smaller loans, as well as rather large equipment loans totaling well over 300k. Obviously the way things are now is not sustainable and we have been trying tirelessly to figure out a way out of this without losing the business. He hasn't taken a paycheck since opening and neither have I and its just been one giant stress on both of our lives. He's heart-broken (I've walked in on him crying by himself in our house) and I think he doesn't want to give up not only because of the huge financial loss but I think he's taking it as a giant personal failure as well. I think he still has hope something will change somehow but I worry it's too little too late. We have cut back on everything we could and were planning on hiring a new mid-level practitioner (think NP or PA) as we can't afford our current one (who already knows and has already got another job lined up). I worry this just isn't worth our stress and thankfully he still is working part time at a major hospital in the area making good money. The huge financial burden won't ruin him but sets back his retirement drastically. Any input on the best way to handle the situation would be greatly appreciated as I hate seeing him like this and feel like I failed him as well. [link] [comments]
Do I need a license or anything to sell CBD bath bombs? Posted: 04 Dec 2019 04:38 PM PST So, I know the laws differ per state (I am in Colorado) but I am having a hell of a time finding the answer to this question... do I need to have a license or register on a government website to sell our CBD bath bombs? Especially to shops such as dispensaries? ESPECIALLY if we aren't making our own CBD, but buying it from a reputable company? I reached out to dispensaries to see if they would sell our bath bombs but got this response: "Is your product on the state approved list for hemp products? That's the only way we can sell them." And I haven't found the answer yet... I've been to a few websites but the info is a bit conflicting... we are an e-commerce website. We don't sell CBD, only CBD bath bombs that have isolate from another company. We thought that was the loop hole for selling but maybe we are wrong. Please please help! [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Dec 2019 04:30 PM PST For the past 5 years, I've had nothing but issues with the CPA I've had. I have gone through 2 of them now. Back story: I own a retail store (online and store front) and I'm always playing catch up with paperwork. Every year, we are always behind on taxes and have to get an extension because I'm trying to run the business and do paperwork within the day. The first CPA I had didn't keep track of anything for us within QB and just put all the sales together. So we have no data on customers, items, etc.. the second CPA/Book keeper was great with numbers and getting work done, but if I ever asked a question for my own knowledge he would flip out and we basically got to the point where we split ways. Is it worth hiring a in house book keeper or keep trying to do it myself on QBO? And on that note, is anyone using something different for data/numbers? I would really like to hire a book keeper but we just moved to a new location last May so I'm still trying to get back on my feet with new bills. [link] [comments]
Health Care and expanding into another state Posted: 04 Dec 2019 03:10 PM PST Hello! I was wondering if anyone here in the healthcare field (accepts insurance) as their primary form of income who has expanded across different states? We provide a specialized therapy for children with Autism and the area we are in is saturated with providers which can make it difficult to obtain clients regularly. There is a state with a bigger need for this therapy and we're looking into adding a second location in a different state. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Ethics of doing business in repressive countries Posted: 04 Dec 2019 02:57 PM PST My company is a software vendor and I'm struggling with the ethics of selling access to my saas application in a country with a repressive government. My potential client is a non-state run school in Egypt. Has anyone else been in a similar situation and thought about the ethics of their situation? [link] [comments] |
