r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Technicals Tuesday - Dec 03, 2019 Posted: 03 Dec 2019 12:07 AM PST This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on technical analysis (TA), but if TA is not your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against TA here and not in the current post. Some helpful day to day links, including news:
Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions. The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price. TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term. What's a stock that you wanted earlier this year. How is it doing now? Posted: 02 Dec 2019 07:10 PM PST Question is in the title. We always have a stock we didn't buy for whatever reason, name yours. Mine was EVER, was going to buy in the Spring and has since made great gains. Now I'm fixated on the old price and think it's "expensive" - ha. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2019 06:24 AM PST Can anyone help explain how Clovis Oncology has jumped 400% the past month when they recorded a net loss of more than 90 million. Edit: LMAO this shit slumped. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2019 08:05 AM PST Is Cleveland Cliffs a buy after the AK Steel deal? I'm not an expert on steel industry, but CLF seems to be an underrated company. At its current price, I can easily see it tank up to 40% or more in the upcoming months. Any expert opinion? [link] [comments] |
Thoughts on JD.com vs. Alibaba? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 07:39 AM PST Would love to hear the differences, benefits, and negatives of each (as companies, not specifically their stock). No one ever talks about JD.com. Input from Chinese folk + [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2019 11:25 AM PST First of all, sorry if any of this comes off as uneducated. I'm relatively new to the stock market and trading. I purchased PayPal shortly after it acquired Honey, expecting some gains following the deal. Since then, I've lost about 2.5% on my purchase, but market analysts are still bullish on the stock. I am also aware that the markets have been down as a whole over the course of the past week or so. Any thoughts on what I should be doing with this position? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Experience with this platform and financial service Posted: 03 Dec 2019 11:09 AM PST Hello everyone. I want to start trading again but I am unsure about which platform to use. A friend of mine is recommending me to make an account with someone I am unfamiliar with, so we will use the same platform, and wonder if anyone here has any experience. The company in question is neptunefx.com.au. They are using a platform called MT4. Safe\unsafe\experience? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
What is everyone’s position on ACB? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 08:40 AM PST It is very undervalued right now and has massive upside. [link] [comments] |

Can someone help me with this Graph please? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 01:58 PM PST Help me guys: I was looking at the revenue number for Dollar Tree and I came across this graph. However it didn't make much sense to me because the Y axis has little information. https://i.imgur.com/gyyFvpn.jpg I know their revenue number is $22 Billion, but I had to google this, as I couldn't decipher the number from the graph. Looking at it, all I could assume was that the revenue was under $30billion... Is there something I'm missing? Or is this a poor graph? I suspect the analyst who drew this must've assumed that people would know the number without needing an extra google search. [link] [comments] |
What's annual "out-year revenue"? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 01:47 PM PST Specifically, I'm trying to understand what the term "out-year" refers to. The dictionary definition is just "the year beyond a current fiscal year." Is it just another way of saying next year? The stock in question is OVID. "The analyst thinks OV101 could generate $450M+ in 'peak annual out-year revenue if successful.' For soticlestat, he sees a near $400M out-year sales opportunity for refractory epilepsies. " [link] [comments] |
Why would anyone want to invest in GW pharmaceuticals (CBD)? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 01:35 PM PST They have a dividend yield of 0 so doesn't that mean they don't pay out dividends at all? How would investors earn money? Also, I don't see any credit rating so how would we know how reliable or risky the stock is? I see this company mentioned on reddit and I'm wondering how anyone would get a profit. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2019 01:26 PM PST Up 120% on AXSM. Considering switching to AMRN with the label expansion coming out in the next 3 weeks, hoping for a wide label and make a quick couple hundred. However, axsome have data on phase 3 for migraines coming out which seems highly promising. Also before the end of the month. Not sure really what a realistic target is for AMRN if they get a wide expansion on the label, the mean seems to indicate $28 but I guess realistically you could be looking at $50+ if the label gets widely expanded, as if the fda do that the ema will follow suit and surely this will shoot. Axsm are potentially tapping into a $70bn market and based on the conference call I'd be very surprised if ph3 data for migraines is negative. Which do you think is the better bet? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 07:14 AM PST Past 2 days a lot of stocks seen the red. Mainly analysts are stating to hold off from investing. Anyone seeing it as a buying opportunity or holding? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2019 09:13 AM PST What do you guys think of the first Esports team org. IPO that's set to go public on the 9th in the NASDAQ Copenhagen? Personally excited to see how it does for the industry, but I don't have too much faith in the IPO itself. American and Asian orgs have many more resources and money that make those a safer investment for large investors over European orgs. lmk what you think. [link] [comments] |
UBER: Massive reversal this morning. Gap n Trap Posted: 03 Dec 2019 08:56 AM PST Uber opened down close to 3% and scared a ton of retail into dumping. Buying has been non stop and relentless since then. Made a full recovery and has reclaimed the recent uptrend line. Looks totally orchestrated by deep pockets to by a ton of cheap shares and scare the small guy out. Next stop 32? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2019 12:25 PM PST Bought yesterday. Down 45% today in tandem with news of an ADS price and probably some big player dropouts after the surge. I'm wondering if anybody has any advice on this position. Should I sit on my shares and try to recoup through the end of the year? [link] [comments] |
Weak U.S. Industrial Data Leads Array of Worrying Economic Indicators, Gold Remains Steady Posted: 03 Dec 2019 12:13 PM PST There are several reasons experts presently warn of potential economic downturn. China's growth has been slowing, despite recent positive reports, as the trade war wages on and geopolitical tensions increase. Among others, countries like Singapore and South Korea, who export manufactured goods to China, are slowing. Positive economic signs do persist, with consumption remaining steady at 2%, and private residential investment increasing in the third quarter of 2019. (though this has steadily declined since the end of 2017). Despite this, business investment has begun to fall. Large companies have cut back capital expenditures, citing policy uncertainty and the trade war as harbingers. With declining investment in business, wages will likely decline, leading to weaker demand and slower hiring. Certain financial markets have shown signs of slowing. The collateralized loan obligation market has seen falling standards in the value of the products. This market is comprised of risky loans that have increasingly been substituted for junk bonds in the U.S. The Federal Reserve has intervened in the repo market, suggesting liquidity issues, as reported by Bloomberg. Beyond that, government policy won't provide much economic support, as interest rates have already been low (below 2%) and the Fed likely won't implement quantitative easing unless an economic crisis breaks out. The signs of economic downturn don't stop there. The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) released data supporting more evidence that U.S. industry has slowed in the last six months. U.S. industrial companies are not placing new orders for equipment, leading to lower production. Lower productions leads to fewer jobs. ISM®'s New Orders Index were 47.2 percent in November, a 1.9 percentage point decrease against 49.1 percent reported in October. New orders contracted for a fourth straight month, leading to a decline in stocks of approximately 350 points. The U.S. could benefit from global weakness, as capital flows could be sent to the U.S. amid political unrest elsewhere. China weakness and slow downs in Germany and South Korea, as well as protests in Hong Kong, Spain, Latin America, the Middle East, and elsewhere, could see a flight to the calmer shores of the U.S. The weak overarching economic data, including the poor manufacturing data, kept gold prices steady. As reported by CNBC, gold remained "little changed at $1,464.20 per ounce. U.S. gold futures settled down 0.3% at $1469.2." The manufacturing data will likely support gold throughout trading today. "Market started the day on a risk-on tone, but got caught off guard when the ISM data was a bit weaker-than-expected. We saw equities, yields and the dollar all correct, which has helped gold a bit," said Ryan McKay, a commodity strategist at TD Securities. Though some experts remain pessimistic that further rate cuts will five the economy a shot in the arm, others say further rate cutting remains on the table. "The notion is that the U.S. Federal Reserve is done cutting (interest rates) for now and we'll need to see a trend in weaker data through early 2020 to convince the market that we're going to get more cuts. Until then, there's no real impetus to see gold rally," McKay added. [link] [comments] |
What are your Favorite sources to keep up with market news? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 11:41 AM PST I'm interested as I only really use Nasdaq and Marketwatch but maybe there are other good sources to keep me up to date on trends. What are your favorite sites/apps? [link] [comments] |
Why is Amazon's stock struggling Posted: 03 Dec 2019 11:25 AM PST Amazon's stock grew at 50% since 2018 and 14% since the beginning of this year. This doesn't seem right given its past. I am wondering if this means its growth is slowing down or if it means its going to blow up the next few years? [link] [comments] |
What to expect in the price of a stock after earnings calls? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 03:22 AM PST BMO just had their earnings call and the actual EPS was stated to be $1.85 and its current price per share is $75.66. Just to make sure I'm correct that would mean that the P/E = 40.90. What I am confused about is whether or not this is a high or low ratio and how do I know if this will make the stock gain or lose value aka $$$. I am confused as to when stock prices of companies will rise or fall the day after their earnings calls. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Dec 2019 10:37 PM PST Hi fellow investors, I'm working on a project for my stats class. We have $1,000 to invest in at least 2 stocks. Whoever has the most money after 3 weeks (starting Nov 25) wins a good gift card that I rly want. So I'm thinking high risk, high yield stocks. So far I have ORMP and CLVS on my radar. We have to definitely pick our stocks on Dec 4 so I have a bit of time, any suggestions I should be looking at? BTW: we can't buy and sell after Dec 4 at that point we are locked in until the end. Also we can't but fractional shares Any help is appreciated thanks. [link] [comments] |
Zenda Gold Mining Company capital stock shares from 1929 Posted: 02 Dec 2019 05:30 PM PST After my grandparents passed I found capital stock shares of the Zenda Gold Mining Company from 1929. I've tried to find out if this company still exists (suspect not), if it was acquired, bankrupt or whatever else. I've found records of mines owned and worked but not much about the company. Additionally, the stock certificate was registered by "Lawyers Trust Company" (registrar) and countersigned by "The Corporation Trust Company" (transfer agent). At the top of the certificate it says "incorporated under the laws of the state of Delaware" and it has the corporate seal from Delaware. I just contacted the "CT Corporation" which I think is their 2019 name and will update this post if I learn more. My question for those still reading is, do you have any tips on how I can find out more about this stock and if it has any value worth chasing? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
