How did people find up and coming tech companies like Samsung and amazon when they were new and growing? What tools did those people use to find these companies? Because I am trying to find good stock search tools and they tend to not have a lot of search results.

How to use a stop limit order properly?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 01:26 PM PST

I currently own GE stock ($11.08 per share). I want to set a stop limit order so that if GE drops below $10.85 per share it will sell. However, I am a little confused on what I should set as the "stop price" and the "limit price" so that the stock will sell at $10.85. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Where Can I Find Past Earnings Reports? And Can I See If They Beat The Estimates Or Not?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 08:31 PM PST

I'm fairly new to stocks and right now I'm mostly investing in ETF's to get diversity easier in my portfolio and then I don't loose my all money if a company goes south or whatever else just because I'm still new to stocks. And I'm still just paper trading and doing a stock game on my phone. But I've been looking at a few companies that I've been eyeing up and I want to see there past earnings reports and I want to see if they beat them or not and by how much. Does anyone know of a website where I can do such a thing? Or where I can find earnings reports for company's. Any Comments Are Appreciated. (Looking For Websites Besides The Companies Website) Thanks.

    Loan your shares?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 05:31 PM PST

Can anyone break down the strengths and weaknesses around "loaning your shares" for added income on them?

Got an email recently from Ally asking if I would like to join this program. Want to make sure I'm not giving up anything huge in return for allowing them to "borrow" them.

I jumped into the market this year for the first time ever and have about 20% return on realized gain (2019 banked) and about 18% unrealized currently. Would like to ensure I don't jump into something that hurts my ability to keep and bank as I wish throughout 2020.

High risk, High reward investing strategies

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 08:53 AM PST

Hi, I'm new to investing and want to learn where to start !

Upon reading rich Dad, Poor Dad, I decided I wanted to learn how to invest. I have 500 euro to use and want to invest in riskier options. My thinking behind this is that I want to learn more than actually make money!

Could anyone please recommend books they have read or any other sources of reliable information I could use ! Thanks

Is it possible to search for investment funds based on their stock portfolio?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 01:22 AM PST

    Hi,

I've started a savings account where I plan to monthly set aside some money in investment funds. I'm going to put two thirds into long term savings in index funds and one third into actively managed funds.

For the actively managed funds I plan to zone in on some industry sectors that I think will do well in the future, and pick funds depending on fees/structure/what shares they own etc.

Now, I'm not feeling confident enough to trade in stocks myself, but I have a gut feeling about some stocks that I think will grow over time. Say for example that I like Coca-Cola, and would like to invest in a fund that owns Coca-Cola shares.

For the time being I have scrolled through lists of funds and looked at what stocks they own. Would it be possible to reverse the search, i.e. searching for "Coca-Cola" and find all investment funds that own Coca-Cola shares? I realize that the point of actively managed funds is for the manager to switch up the portfolio when they see fit, but try to humor this question nonetheless!

Hopefully my question is clear – English isn't my first language so it's possible the finance terminology doesn't translate right.

    Thanks in advance!

What is the better buy $YY or $HUYA?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 01:09 AM PST

I'm looking to add exposure into e-sports and video game live streaming I want to know if it is better to own $YY as they have a 40% ownership stake in $HUYA couple with other assets like YY Live, BIGO, etc. or to just own $HUYA outright. Any guidance on this would be much appreciated. Thank you!

need advice for my investment strategy and stocks

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 12:02 AM PST

I just started trading about 11 months ago. Im 29 y/o my company provides a 401k plan for retirement and I also have an IRA.I set a budget and usually stick to it. When I get my paycheck I set a side money for bills, put 30% of my paycheck to savings and set aside pocket money just for everyday use. End of each month I ended up having a few hundred remaining which I fell into the habit of buying stuff on amazon that I want (not need) that I use for a bit and then just put it in a box. So I decided to try to get smart about it and instead of blowing it on useless stuff online I decided to try to develop an additional revenue stream.

My goal is to invest this extra money each month into dividend paying stocks. So I can slowly but surely stop having to invest my own money into buying stocks and be able to use the dividends that I earn to reinvest. Eventually creating a second "paycheck" in case I fall on hard times or just keep reinvesting into securities to keep it growing when business is good and even eventually when I retire live off social security ( if its still around) , my 401k, IRA and these dividends.

I am fully aware that for me to reach my goal of getting decent sized payments when dividends are paid will take many years and I am ok with that.

To summarize I have a 10 year goal of additional monthly income & a 30ish year goal of additional retirement benefits added to what I already have.

    Currently,

I have a pretty diversified portfolio with only dividend paying securities. I have a portion of my portfolio invested in penny stocks with very high paying dividends (11-18%) , blue chip stocks like AT&T, Ford , Pfizer and many others that usually pay (3-7%) dividends, ADRs like Honda ( 3ish %) and REITs ( pay monthly dividends 9-11%).

I am not heavily invested into any one security and I never invest any sum of money that would hurt if tomorrow I lost all my principal(it would suck and might emotionally break me but wouldn't effect my finances and current life style). I do have alerts set up on my phone to notify me if any of the stocks that I own drop below a certain value that would make me uncomfortable owning. Plus out of those few hundred (200-300) that I use to trade each month about 30% of it I put in my brokerage account but dont invest it. I keep it to invest in dividend paying blue chip stocks when a recession hits and stock prices drop in the hopes of when we enter recovery they stock value will grow and I will get higher % of return from the dividends. The only risk I am personally seeing is with my some of my more higher paying dividend stocks is volatility which is acceptable for me because of the bigger returns.I dont really want to do any short term trades like buying stock "x" @ $25 and selling it a few weeks later @ 36 as I would have to manage my investments 100x more actively. Even tho it would probably make me more $ short term I dont have the time to actively manage anything.

As my career grows and and my income increases I my monthly surplus will increase proportionately as well so I can invest more until it starts paying for itself.

So thats basically where I am at

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for my strategy or advice. Ill even take any suggestions anyone has on any decent dividend paying securities . Right now I am looking into municipal and govt bonds since the safety and annual returns are appealing. Even though I do hold securities that are slightly risky I would prefer a relatively stable stock with decent dividends. Capital appreciation is a benefit but not my main goal for me 1st goal is liquid income , 2nd is stability 3rd is growth.

    $100,000 bet on December 15th

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 08:11 PM PST

Back on October 5th I bet $20,000 that SPY was going to drop on October 15th... Well.. that didn't happen.

I'm banking on news that Trump will not move forward with Tariffs on December 15th with 621 contracts of 316 Strike Price expiring on December 16th.

I'm already green in my positions from purchasing on Wednesday. I'm planning on selling half and keeping the other half till that date.

    Thoughts?
