Need advice for Disney Advertising Sales interview

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 05:11 AM PST

    Good Morning,

I have a really important interview coming up for a job that I really don't know too much about. I applied for an "Account Executive" position with the Walt Disney Company. I was able to get my foot in the door with a friend that works in the same department but located in a different state. I have my degree in Criminal Justice and this position is for advertising sales. I want to be able to go in there and show them that although I don't have my degree in advertising that I could still thrive in the position. What would be great talking points or fundamentals that I could research to prepare me for an interview or help me be knowledgeable in the subject to "impress" interviewers? I would greatly appreciate any direction! Thanks!

Driving for client meetings U.K. and Nordics

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:55 AM PST

Hey for my EU sales peeps, I am starting a new job in January covering the UK and Nordics and mainly energy companies. For those of you who live in the region, do you find that you need to drive in order to meet with big clients or is public transport more convenient? I need to convert my US driving license to a local one and it may be a pain in the ass if I have to take a driving test again.

    Thanks

What to look for when hiring a Sales Rep/SDR

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:53 AM PST

If you are hiring an SDR (Inbound or outbound), what are the most important things to look for ? I am not sure if domain knowledge should be number 1. I have seen that the ability to learn and promptness is a lot more valuable because the other skills can be taught. What do you experienced Sales Managers/hiring managers have to say ?

    Trouble Finding Qualified Leads

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 09:36 AM PST

I've been with a SaaS startup for about 6 months now. We've had trouble nailing down our sales process, who our best prospect is, and what level of exec we have to sell to. We think we've pinned down the "who," now we're struggling with, "where the hell do we find them."

    Here's where we're at:
Product: Employee Engagement / Performance Management SaaS
Target Prospect: Small to Mid-size companies (50-500 employees) with a very culture forward, employee-centric mindset.
Ideal Contact: President/CEO without a board (HR heads have been too slow, too cumbersome, and need to sell upward internally).
Industry: agnostic, but have been seeing some success in manufacturing and banking
Geography: US/Canada - Midwest US if possible

The trouble comes in finding prospects who fit the "culture-forward, employee-centric" piece.

Can anyone help me figure out where to find these ideal prospects/contacts?

    Selling to governments

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 09:10 AM PST

I have a pretty good job now, but have been offered a position where the only clients are governments municipalities and cities. Growth potential at this company is much higher than the one I'm at now so I'm seriously considering the offer

Typically I do not accept jobs that involve cold calling, however, this company has stated several times that dealing directly with governments is far less soul crushing and almost every call is a good conversation.

Has anyone ever cold called government prospects? How is it?

    Fired for 3rd time

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:07 PM PST

I've just been fired for the 3rd time. Unfortunately, they refused to give a reason (which is legal where I live) and it was only days in. The two previous times were at starts-ups where I was the first hire outside of the founder (very chaotic, stressful environments - first guy said he ran out of money, another guy said the market wasn't ready after a while - however, there were tensions at both places - one hired me for a job but then wanted me to do something different, the other one and I disagreed on implementation). None of them lasted more than 3 months. On the flip side, I've held down other jobs for years on end/become like family with bosses and co-workers.

Anyways, I have a problem. I would say I'm fairly aware of my shortcomings and strengths. I have certainly improved in the last 5 years, but it's obviously not been enough. I plan on talking with a therapist etc but am wondering if anyone here has been through something similar. How did you overcome it and learn to succeed in the workplace? Below are some strengths and weaknesses of mine (both my perception and other remarks). I wonder if one of the main problems is that it takes me a while to warm up/get adapted to new environments...I can be standoffish, quiet, cold and probably perceived as "bitchy" since I'm a woman in sales. Until I get a bearing on things I'm just really anxious, worried, scared etc.

Again, I'm just looking for anyone that's helped someone who's been through this or someone older and wiser. Please don't rip me a new one in the comments. I feel like a hopeless cause, but no one is and I'm trying to remind myself of that. At the same time, I strive to take responsibility for myself.

Cons: aggressive, dominant, authority figure problems, harder to do things when I don't believe in them/think it could be done better, prideful, impatient, impulsive, demanding, overthink things, independent, quick to make decisions

Pros: kind-hearted, thoughtful, observant, joyful, excitable, giving, silly/funny, endearing, passionate, hard-working, resilient, faithful, curious, enthusiastic, knows how to have a good time, go-getter

People who work or had worked straight commission, how long did it take for you to start making decent money at your job?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 02:15 PM PST

I was working in a fish factory making minimum wage before this it was awful and probably more awful for the people on the bus coming home with me completely reeking of fish in 86 degree weather.

Anyway I got a job in straight commission sales this month on the phone and I'm doing OK. First week I didn't sell shit second week on Tuesday I made two sales and Friday I made one which was fucking crazy because that's $750, compared to the factory job making $11/h, the second week I made $18.75/h if you look at it as a 40 hour work week! Now we're on holidays.

There's people in my company making almost $200k a year and I want to join them. Currently the sales manager is training me and doing an excellent job at it but I'm a little impatient and want to start making a lot of money so I can move out of this terrible neighborhood.

How long did it take you guys to start making decent money in straight commission?

Looking for advice - starting a new role as a printer/copier/print services sales rep

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 11:35 AM PST

    Hey everyone!

I hope all is well for anyone reading this, and thank you for taking the time to do so as well. I'm one month into a new sales role for a vendor of a large printer/scanner/copier/print services company in Atlanta, GA. I'll be getting my territory in a week or two and would love to hear any tips/advice that yáll may have. I'm 24 and have 3 years of sales experience (previously a rep for a specialty insurance carrier selling group insurance).

For any clarity or direction - What are great lead sources that are free? Advice on sales process? Lessons from experienced reps that you wish you could've conveyed to a younger rep? Any and all advice is welcome, thanks!

Being a sales rep for more than one company?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 05:28 AM PST

Hi, does anyone have experience working as a sales rep for more than one company (for more than one product type),...

Not those of conflict of interest scenarios, but complementary ones. For example, if you're already selling shovels to gold diggers, why not also sell hard hats and pushcarts if another company can supply.

If you have experience, I'd like to know whether:

    1. you found success? or challenges?
    2. you think it's better to focus on a company (or product) and go deep, vs carry multiple products and going broad?

    Thanks... and Happy new year!

[Serious] How do I subscribe to B2B spam emails?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:53 AM PST

    Not trolling with that heading.

I'm building a tool for improving B2B mass spammed emails using some clever NLP software.

My ICP = B2B mass spammers in SaaS/Marketing

So I want as many B2B sales pitches in my inbox as possible. Not double opt-in promotion stuff. Looking for cold sales pitches.

What would be the easiest way to get as many of these emails as possible.

At what point in the interview process do you talk about pay?

My interview skills are rusty, but may have an opportunity with an SaaS gig. Is pay discussed the 1st interview?

    Cold Lead Nurturing / Playbook?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:51 AM PST

    Hey Guys 👋

I'm a co-founder of a SaaS startup. As of right now, I'm the one man sales machine. We're doing targeted outbound and content based inbound.

One of the issues I'm running into (that I believe is a global issue) is the growing number of cold leads. For example, leads that missed scheduled demos, leads that expressed interest and are no longer replying to emails, etc.

I want to build a specific playbook for follow ups / nurturing these cold leads.

I have two questions for you guys:

    1. What % of your leads goes cold? Right now, mine is about 30%, is this normal? High, Low?
    2. What does your follow up strategy look like right now? How many times do you reach back out? What channels? When do you consider the lead dead?

I've asked around and have noticed that most sales reps don't have a well documented playbook focused around cold leads and/or choose to neglect nurturing because they find it a poor use of their time.

Any advise / knowledge would be killer! Thx.

People who work Straight Commission Gigs: What Industry do you work in?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:07 PM PST

Going off an earlier post I saw today about straight commission, I greatly admire everyone in here who works a straight commission job and I'm really curious.

What industry are most straight commission people in where they're making 120K-300K as it was referenced in the earlier post about how long it took them to make good money?

It seems amazing to me that so many people with 0 Salary get up to 120K-300K a year.

Do most of you high earners have college degrees or is it straight hustle? I think it's a blessing & a curse to be in a B2B sales role with a decent salary + commish.

    Time to move on

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 09:26 PM PST

So I've been with my current company for about 4 years now and the time has come for me to look into moving on. Unfortunately there have been a slew of recent changes and to be blunt about it everything has gone to shit. Clients are cancelling services and the ship is sinking.

Anyways, I was wondering what some of the more lucrative industries to consider might be. I'm in Toronto Canada, in my early to mid thirties, motivated and frankly money hungry.

Thanks for any and all replies.

At what point in the interview process do you discuss pay?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:17 AM PST

Haven't interviewed in a few years, but I may have an opportunity for an SaaS gig. Is commission/pay structure something you should ask about in the first interview? Or is it expected they will discuss it with you in the first interview? Do you wait until you make it to the next round?

Other avenues, Leaving Sales. Recommendations please!

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 06:38 AM PST

What metrics, if any, do you track?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 08:52 PM PST

    Also, what do you sell?

I sell financial products and track calls/emails made, appointments booked, appointments completed, size of sales made. I then keep track of appointments per call, sales per call/appointment, and commission per call/appointment.

I'm in the business about 20 years and early on I started tracking these things. I find it very motivating to see roughly what each phone call is generating in commissions.

Can anyone give me a professional good deadline script?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 06:29 AM PST

Hi I need a professional deadline idea for my buyers who want web work. For example ally services is right the price is fine but they all just B's me and tell me that they will get back to me. It's a lie. None of them get back to you ever. I have been in the sales industry for to long now.

For example I used to sell steel sheds and we used to say that we had a little left over and that they could buy it now and today before 5 o'clock and if they did not buy it , my manager was just going to get them out of the way because it's taking up room and he would have contractors come pick up the metal at 7pm. So the customer could have a discounted price.

I need something like that for software sales and web design sales. I have used the old "I'm catching a plane" and I'll be gone for a week deal but I need some one liners guys.

Found out our commission rate is dropping 25% next year which is the second year in a row of decline. Curious how it stacks to other SaaS roles.

    How to approach the person

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 04:50 AM PST

So I'm not in a sales position but I'm approaching small businesses to ask if I can put posters up and negotiate prices ect. I find the approach is the part I fuck up, I guess because it's unexpected for them - On multiple occasions I have come up close behind them and have them not hear me and it's a really awkward approach haha and other times they are just not serving people and not expecting me to come up.

Also,This is in the UK and the whole planned speech is seen as phoney - I normally just hit them with a "Hey man I uhm". The rest of the conversion is fine but I feel like I need to improve the approach.

Have you any advice for me?
