Gear for Easily Talking and Driving?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 10:08 AM PST

    Good Afternoon Everyone.

I am a salesman in construction and I am very soon going to be moving into a purely outside role where I will be making worksite and office visits all day every day and will practically never be in my own office or in front of a computer.

It strikes me that it is going to be important that I can easily answer the phone and have conversations while driving.

Any recommendations for what gear you like to use to make this the easiest? Any recommendations on gear or apps that make using your car as your office and your phone as your only real computer easier in general?

Sorry if this is a newbie question but its my first 100% outside sales role.

Has your confidence ever written a check you weren't sure your ass could cash?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 01:59 PM PST

I'm curious if there's anyone who potentially landed a job, or been promoted, to find yourself in a positition when you weren't sure if you were fully qualified? Whether it be sales manager or a technical role and whether it be because of your short tenure in the industry or something else. How did you fake it till you made it? Where did you look for advice when you may have not had anyone around to lean on? Or maybe you didn't make it, what did you learn from it?

Tied up neatly in a bun, but long hair nonetheless.

EDIT: Sorry, entry level sales positions.

Next move to make in sales

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 10:40 AM PST

I make about $125k right now working sales selling services at a telecom provider to businesses. I've been doing it for almost 4 years now. I have an associates design degree. Do I have any chance of finding a more serious sales job that can increase that yearly amount? Is a degree a major qualifier? I'm looking to branch out and try and double that $$$ but not sure what industries to look at other than pharmaceutical and medical devices.

Are there automated meeting reminders from Outreach or Zoom for attendees?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 09:52 AM PST

    Hey folks,

I was wondering if any of you have figured out a way to send automated meeting reminders for upcoming calls with prospects, through Outreach or Zoom.

I was doing some research and came across this blog post from Outreach in 2017, where they mention, "Additional features, including note taking, round robin scheduling, automated reminders and follow ups, and analytics will roll out through the first half of next year." That said, I haven't seen any posts from them or anything in the platform to suggest these reminders exist.

I looked into Zoom as well, and it seems you can only set up reminders for yourself, not for attendees (unless you're running a webinar, specifically).

    Any ideas?

What are other places to recruit a salesperson?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 09:41 AM PST

I have tried Craigslist,- there are too many "tire kickers" there. I have tried meetasalesman.com and that site seems too high.

Are there subreddits or other places where salespeople are looking to make money?

I read the rules of this sub and it says no recruiting, so I am not recruiting from this subredddit.

    Sales Interview Advice

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 01:52 AM PST

Have a sales interview coming up and as part of it I have to use 3 points for each half of the presentation, i.e 3 points for 'why I want a career in sales' and 3 points for 'why x should select me'. These point breakdown into a Point, Example, Relate structure and i'm at such a loss at finding 6 different points and examples for each question. Any advice>

How do you slow down in sales and in life?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 04:11 PM PST

I (22m) have been in sales for awhile and I'm starting to realize the older guys that are very successful (not only in sales but business owners ect.) are also very collected and relaxed at all times. They never react and are so smooth in pretty much every social setting, it's crazy! Even though I do well I feel like my mind can't keep up with what's going on all the time and say stupid things pretty often.. I've tried to slow down and be more self aware but it is very difficult!

Is there anybody in this sub that used go to fast and not be very self aware but learned how to slow down? What did you do or read to fix the problem? Or Is this just my personality and need to embrace it?

    Sales Strategy Theory

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 12:11 AM PST

    Hi all,

There is a theory in sales strategy that essentially states that the more routes to selling something that you have, the more customers you will reach, even if some of those routes compete.

i.e. If you're selling out of a bricks and mortar shop, but then start selling online, you'll may lose some customers from the shop as they go online, but you'll get more customers overall.

Does anyone know what this theory is called and suggest any reading on it please?

Is it time to move on?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 09:36 PM PST

Bit of a story, looking for advice as to if I should move on or perservere with another company.

Started at my current company 2 years ago. Within 5 months was one of the highest sellers in my team and slowly crept to to top 2 or 3 spot out of about 25 agents. Due to strong understanding of our sales process and Sales methodology as a whole, was offered a sales coaching position 8 months into my employment. About a week later, it was found my team leader was leaving, and upper management wanted me to replace him.

So I took on that role for about 6 months. When I took on that role, the team was one of the lowest performing teams in the centre. (About 8 or 9 teams, each with 20 - 25 consultants) Immediately, 2 of my top performers were taken from the team to take part in a special program, at no point did I get them back and another left the workplace completely (I imagine due to frustrations of not getting the management role)

About 3 weeks later, my next 3 top performers were taken away for a 2nd special program. At no point did I get them back either.

So I've got a team of roughly 20 agents a month into this role. None of these agents have ever been a high seller and only about half are hitting bare minimum targets despite most being in the workforce as long as myself.

Over the next few months I get a few new people every fortnight until I have the largest team in the centre. I've managed to turn a few of them into sales guns, hitting well above expected target but the team size is so large and unwieldy, I've got the claasic problem of 20% of the people making 80% of the sales.

Long story short, I burn out after 6 months and return to a sales coach role, only to be told a week later that the role isn't available anymore. I'm back to being a sales agent.

Despite continuing to be a good seller, just today I've had someone sit next to me "to help me out" and it seems like a personal insult.

I guess I'm venting but can anyone relate? Do I just move on?

How to Sell via a Letter?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 09:32 PM PST

Hey there! Very new and inexperienced seller here, was tasked with drafting a generic letter that I could send to companies, trying to convince them to give funding.

The goal of the letter is to get funding, but how would I go about addressing a client through a letter, without being able to have a conversation? Should I have an "ask"? How much information about the organization should I give?

I'm very new to this, so any and all advice is appreciated!

Lost half my paycheck, feeling depressed. Suggestions?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 12:54 PM PST

    Good afternoon r/sales.

So the title says it all. 2 weeks ago I was blindsided when my largest account said he was switching to my competitor. It was nothing personal against me or the service my company has provided. The owner of the business is looking to retire and my competitor offered to purchase the business when he does as long as he converts now. That's a practice my company doesn't do. Looking from the outside in, it wasn't a bad move on the owners part, selling a large private owned business can be tough. What gets me is he had always mentioned retiring in 5-6 years, not next year. I guess he changed his mind when opportunity knocked.

Anyways, this account is half my commission. I currently pull in around 120k so you can figure out how much income I'm about to lose...I have a pipeline but I wouldn't say it's full and none of my prospects do even close to the volume of the account I'm losing. I just moved into this territory 6 months ago (by choice, I've always wanted to live here) and cost of living is much higher than where I previously lived.

I handled the news very professionally when I found out but over the last 2 weeks since I got the news my mental health has seriously deteriorated.

I was seriously depressed for 2 years in college and I feel closer to that now than I have since I got my life on track. The last 2 weeks I've stayed up until 3 or even 4 am, been sleeping til noon, and have generally felt like shit from when I wake up til I go to bed. I've managed to find the energy to consistently call on my existing accounts but prospecting has fallen off a cliff. It's like my passion to sell was just ripped from my soul and thrown in the trash.

Every day all day I think about losing that account and how I'm going to figure this out. It's got me questioning all of my life decisions. I am at a loss. Just completely and utterly defeated. I know my only option is to get out there and prospect like crazy but I'm really struggling to do that.

Oh and did I mention the icing on the shit cake? A week after I lost this account I got 2 phone calls from business owners in my old territory that I prospected diligently for 2 years. One owns a 5 store chain, one owns the largest store in that region. They both wanted to talk business. I had the pleasure of referring them to my replacement in that area. So fuck my life.

Have any of you had something like this happen? How did you handle it? Any tips for recovering mentally/emotionally. I'm at a loss. For the first time in years I just feel so lost and defeated. It's making me want to get out of sales entirely and work a salaried 9-5. This stress almost isn't worth it.

New home sales!! How do you start!? Any new home salespeople here?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 08:18 PM PST

Greetings. I'm a top producing car salesman (20-30 units a month). Been that way for 1 out of my two years at my dealership. I'm trying to break into new home sales. I like houses and the income can be fantastic.

Trouble is, I cant seem to land an interview or even get an email back. I've applied for maybe 70 jobs on indeed and I've even established an excel database of potential employees that i follow up with on a regular basis. (Using those buy or die sales skills 😉 ). I've also applied on countless company websites with no success.

It's an incredible grind filling out slightly different job applications over and over again with no yield.

I have 3 years sales experience and I'm ready for a change. What do you sales folk reccomend?

How do the holidays affect your industry and selling routine?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 02:13 PM PST

    Howdy, all!

I'm in Enterprise SaaS sales, selling healthcare solutions to hospitals/physician orgs. The "don't wanna be bothered" has set in heavy for my industry. I recently finished Fanatical Prospecting so I'm still prospecting like crazy but my response rate is low and getting lots of OOO messages with return dates around 12/13. I even saw one for 1/13/20, crazy! I'll admit, it's been messing with my head a little bit being in this slump.

    Some things I'm trying:

    • Keeping my prospecting blocks - switching up my pitch, focusing on setting 2020 meetings and industry trends
    • Clean up CRM - refresh old leads
    • Making a list - doing some handwritten notes/snail-mail to my top prospects for 2020
    • Dedicating time (1-2hr) to listening to podcasts or reading
    • Ending days early to avoid depressive moods (yesterday was bad...tequila was awesome)

Does the holiday season affect your industry where your response rate and activity drops tremendously, and how do you adjust your day/routine to line up opportunities going into the new year? Interested in hearing from y'all and advice you can share!

Interviewer asked why I wasn't applying for a different role.

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 12:11 AM PST

    Hi all,

    Completed an onsite interview today.

Role is for an AE position in a new city, very exciting opportunity. I'm open to relocation.

I have a channel sales/partner sales background. While I believe this is a differentiator and set me a part from those I'm interviewing against, one of the panel asked an interesting question.

To frame this right, we had just concluded a 45 minute chat with myself, a would-be peer, and a manager of another sales team. After the conclusion of the interview, and on our way out the door the manager asked "So why would you apply for this role and not a channel role?"

I was a bit taken a back, but answered "Well, I was approached for this opportunity by a recruiter. But to be quite frank, on LinkedIn, those recs say 10+ years experience preferred. I have 5. But that's certainly the direction I'd like to take my career should I join your team."

Well come to find out just last week a rec in my current city was posted for one of those channel roles with a description requiring 5 years.

My question for the sub: How can I pivot my interview process toward the local and more relevant role?

Does this burn a bridge or hinder the team I spent all day interviewing with?

Would I be hurting the talent aquisition team by potentially placing into a role they weren't tasked with filling?

How can I broach this subject with talent aquisition without hindering my overall chances of an offer?

Any help you guys can provide is greatly appreciated!

Currently in retail finance sales, considering transferring into software sales, where should I start?

Updating Resume - mention client brands I've closed?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 03:13 PM PST

    Hey guys,

So I'm sending my resume out to a few roles and as an SDR/BDM I've created deals with a few notable F500 companies so should/can I list these out on my CV?

And if so, what about those of which I at least got to the point of passing over to an account executive as a verified SQL?

What is the Difference Between Marketing & Sales Content?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 10:40 PM PST

    Is this normal?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 10:21 PM PST

I do inbound sales in a call center. A couple things seem to be happening and I'm just wondering how I should feel about this.

We basically get a target amount of sales each month that equal the same amount of commission. It started off with 70 or 80 sales equals a certain bonus amount. Now it has changed drastically to over 100 sales. So 100+ sales now makes the same amount as 70 or 80 used to. Then they move back to lower targets and raise them up and it repeats.

Second, there is a select amount of people who are set up in a certain call que that makes them top performers month after month. Mainly younger employees with the most potential. New employees do extremely well for the first few months. But once management feels out each individual's potential to move up in the company they set them in certain ques that drive their success. For those that are young and get along with the higher ups, their numbers are just ridiculously high compared to everyone else because they get put in the best lead ques and not first time callers.

Is this normal call center sales life? Or is this something I should be trying to get out of?

What’s a good first time sales job?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 10:16 PM PST

I'm a young guy in my early twenties. I like sales because I'm pretty charismatic. But I'm also a bit shy and awkward at times. I want to go into car sales, but I feel that if I throw myself into car sales right away, I won't have any skills to offer. I want a starting job that will teach me building steps and help me become less awkward in front of customers. Any advice?

    Thanks.
