My father owns a smoothie business. Are these 3 things legal, and can we get in trouble? Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:49 PM PST 1) For the smoothies, we tell customers that it is SOY milk-based when in reality it's an ice cream mix that CONTAINS SOY. 2) We tell customers that ALL our fruits are FRESH but we use SOME FROZEN fruit 3) When customers ask if the fruits have sugar we say no but we add sugar to some fruits for taste, not all Background: My dad has had this business for 20+ years all our customers love our smoothies and nobody has complained My question is for #1-3 is it legal and can we get in trouble for "lying" [link] [comments] |
Employee failed a relatively basic test to move forward with her career...what to I do? Posted: 07 Dec 2019 04:08 PM PST Hi all, Thanks in advance for you wisdom and encouragement. I'm a financial advisor and small business owner. I have two employees - one other advisor and an admin assistant for the team. My assistant has talked about wanting to get her securities licenses (3 exams total) so she can accept trades when the advisors are busy or out of town. I've encouraged her throughout the process and let her know I would happily offer her a raise for doing so. As a show of good faith I paid upfront for her study materials, travel costs for the exam, and have spent time explaining concepts to her during work hours if she had questions. She informed me today that she had failed the first and most basic exam, "Securities Industry Essentials" (75 multiple-choice questions, needs a 70% to pass, she got 65%). I sent her an encouraging text to try and help her shake it off for the weekend and we can talk about it more on Monday. I'm not sure what to do next. Privately I've wondered how well she would do with the exams...she comes from a more blue-collar background with no previous experience with the investment world, dropped out of a Masters program in social work (basically took on all the debt without getting the degree) before coming to work for us, and even though she received the study materials all the way back in July, she just now took the first exam and failed (most people have all three exams done within six months). She's a great admin assistant and generally very good with the tasks I've given her, and she is very well compensated compared to most other AA's in our area across most industries. So...what should I do next? Should I encourage her to try again? Should I pay for it again? Have her pay for a retake? What about future exams? I don't want to discourage an employee and dramatically change an otherwise good relationship in our small business, but I also don't feel it's appropriate to keep paying for something without an expectation of results. The fact that she failed the first and most basic of the three exams gives me pause as to whether she can actually complete all three, as the others will only get more difficult. How would you handle this? Thanks again. [link] [comments] |

Would you invest in a secondhand bookstore? Why/why not? Posted: 07 Dec 2019 06:54 PM PST My favorite bookstore is going up for sale in the next year or so, and I talk to the owner frequently. She offered to sell me her store for the cost of the merchandise. She and her husband have owned the store for almost 30 years, and it does fairly well. She says they both make about a teacher's salary from the store, and it's open 6 days a week. It's in a decent location. It's always been a dream of mine, but would it be a wise investment in current times? I worry that stores like this might be obsolete in the future because of big chain stores and online shopping. I'm terrified of buying something that is a sinking ship. What would you do? [link] [comments] |
Geofencing Advertising - Is It Worth the Money? Posted: 07 Dec 2019 11:09 AM PST When we opened our current location, we tried out some geofencing advertising with a local company. Our traffic was amazing the first couple months but we halted advertising to put our money elsewhere. Since then, we have been doing advertising on our own (boosted social media, etc) but with the holidays here, we are considering the geofencing advertising again. My question is "Is it worth the expense?". Did the advertising bring the traffic at grand opening or can that be chalked up to excitement of a new location? What are your experiences and thoughts? Let me clarify - our business is still doing fine, I'm just always trying to reach higher and reach a larger audience. [link] [comments] |
Looking for advice and support for my brands website Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:15 PM PST Hi Everyone I just Launched a new store, its been about 2 months now had some buyers, and a bit of site traffic, but very low conversion now and no sales. Would really appreciate some help and Feedback I'm new to business. I have begun to notice that all the people that visit my site; 1 - spend under 20 seconds and 2 - only visit the home page and don't go past. we have been partnering with influencers to get the word out which can be seen on my Ig page however I still have not seen an increase in traffic or engagement. There is definitely something I'm missing as it's not converting customer or even getting customers to view the product page. Would really appreciate any help and ideas on-site flow and design that may be impacting traffic that we may have done wrong. What should we fix up urgently to increase customer engagement with the site such as more text, images or testimonials, as none of us has any web development experience is there any apps or ways to fix minor issues without hiring a developer. As well as any ideas to drive traffic that is cheap but targeted or ways to increase sales. Regards Website - www.zuitra.com Instagram - zuitraco [link] [comments] |
How do you deter theft from brick-and-mortar stores. Need suggestions Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:15 PM PST Have a very small business, barely scraping by, have a lot of thefts-- missing inventory, empty hangers. No employees to watch the floor (otherwise, register is unattended) Need suggestions on some deterrents. There are no anti-theft tags on the merchandise because of cost of the sensors and # of merchandise to tag [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Dec 2019 08:54 PM PST I run an appointment based service company. Our website is based on Square Space. I am running Facebook and Google ads and we're having trouble tracking conversion. The reason is because we use a scheduling software to track all of my the appointments. The scheduling software is embedded as a widget in our website, and neither me nor my marketing team can figure out how to track the conversion since a user will go into the widget and complete the appointment without changing web pages. We have thought of workarounds such as having the completion of the appointment trigger a confirmation page, but I haven't found any one solution that works. I am looking for some guidance and for someone to implement a solution for us. I just don't even know where to begin looking for help on this. If someone on this subreddit could help, or if there is somewhere I can find help, I would truly appreciate it. Of course we'd be willing to pay. I've already posted this on upwork with limited success. [link] [comments] |
Service Business advice needed Posted: 07 Dec 2019 06:24 AM PST We have a small service business that we started a little over a year ago. It started as a partnership with a coach who simply needed the financial capital to start the business. As it turns out, he needed much more than the capital. After 9 months, he walked away and signed over his portion of the partnership. We hired 2 employees to take his place with the idea that this would one day be their business. We have given them pretty wide latitude to run the business as they see fit. This has put us back to the position of simply being investors. However... These 2 new employees are entitled, self-serving, and do not share our vision of how a business should be run or how customer service should be performed. They can't prepare and follow a budget, and if we simply give them free reign, we are concerned about our ability to pay back debt. We have offered them deferred equity so that once the debt is paid off, they can buy the business, but so far, this has not been formalized. They have grown the business from losing money to being profitable, and their ability to run a coaching program is working well. It is the other stuff that is a mess. Here's my question for this community. How much control would you exert in this situation? At our current pace, we should have the debt paid off in 18-24 months. In my mind, until they formalize these agreements, this is my business and they are my employees. Once the agreements are signed, then we can back off, but all finances and legal matters remain under our control. Once the debt is paid off, we can formalize the sale and loan payments, and then it is theirs to do with it as they see fit. I would appreciate your thoughts! [link] [comments] |
How to follow metal prices changes Posted: 07 Dec 2019 06:57 PM PST Hi guys. I just recently opened a hardware store and bought metal products to sell such as angle bars, black iron pipe, c-purlins, fencetubes, tubular, channel bars, and others. I got confused as to why no one was buying them until a customer complained our prices were too high. I didn't know what to say since we just followed the price our supplier told us to sell it at. When I asked our supplier, apparently, its market price already went down. I am now selling at a loss. I'll be treating this as a learning expense and hope to avoid it in the future. This is why I wanted to ask you guys what index am I supposed to follow to learn about metal price changes? I don't think I should fully depend on my supplier's words for this since there's a conflict of interest. TL;DR Newly opened hardware store, hoping to find out what index to check to follow price changes [link] [comments] |

Need advice on a software for maintaining accounts and contractors for those accounts Posted: 07 Dec 2019 06:40 PM PST I just started working for a small business as a recruiter and need to try and find an all encompassing and customizable solution where I can get everyone on the same page. We have high turnover with our 60+ contractors so it's paramount we get organized. Right now we're just using Evernote for an account repository and sheets for candidate management. How do I explain this to my customers? Posted: 07 Dec 2019 12:27 PM PST So I run a very small online business from home, it's just me, a one woman band, working to make a little money to help support my husband and our young children. Whilst small, I have a steady stream of orders come through each week which make it worthwhile, and I really do enjoy it so much. My product is personalised and each piece made-to-order with a turnaround time of 2 weeks. On November 30, I received an email from Stripe [the payment processor for my website] saying that my account with them was no longer verified and I needed to upload my ID to become authorised again. Not a problem, I remember having to do this at the beginning 2 years ago when I started up, there were no issues and my ID was accepted instantly. Now, for some reason nobody at Stripe can explain, they cannot accept my [still valid] ID and payments that were due to come out have been put on hold "until a valid ID is provided" apparently. For those not familiar with Stripe, basically customers pay via Stripe and those payments are processed and received on my end 5-7 days later. I have tried every avenue of Stripe support to get this sorted, but I'm not getting anywhere and nobody at Stripe seems willing to help or get back to me. I have accepted the fact that I'm likely not to receive these payments and Stripe will eventually refund the customers, therefore I don't really want to fulfil these orders if I'm not going to receive the payments for them. Husband thinks I should explain the situation, manually refund each customer, and ask them to pay again via PayPal or bank transfer if they still wish to go ahead with their order. Problem is, I don't know how to explain this without sounding dodgy?! As a customer, I think I would find this a little suspicious but I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking it? For now I've put my website in maintenance mode to avoid any more orders coming through while I try and figure out what to do. Any advice would be really appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Cheap option for setting up a paid subscription website? Posted: 07 Dec 2019 12:08 PM PST Can anyone recommend a cheap service that you can use for enabling a paid subscription on a website? I run a site with ad-supported content, and I'd like to offer premium subscription-supported content as well. What companies handle the account and payment setup that I can plugin to my site? I've looked at a few, such as Stripe, which is pretty close to what I want, but they seem relatively expensive. I won't be charging much, probably just $1/month, and Stripe charges a flat $0.30/transaction, which would be 30% of all revenue. [link] [comments] |
Retail store owners of Reddit, would you mind giving some feedbacks? Posted: 07 Dec 2019 11:37 AM PST I hope it's ok to post about this here, but I'm a college student who's building an AI that automatically monitors security cameras to detect threats like weapons, fights, vandalism etc. the idea is that it would alert you and the police (when severe) in real time when something abnormal happens. I'm really interested in hearing some thoughts and ideas from the retail store owners here. Is this something you would be interested in using? [link] [comments] |

Printer capable of printing full 5 x 7 flyers Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:00 AM PST I own a small business currently paying someone to print these flyers for me but i would like to start doing it myself to save money. Can anyone recommend a printer with this capability? [link] [comments] |
A question about Cap One Spark business website Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:14 AM PST I've been reading all the complaints about CapOne's Spark checking with interest. But I finally got it configured the way I like it and have very few problems so I'm keeping for the time being. But I do have one question. Sometime in the middle of summer they seemed to have made some changes to the account management website. Since then I haven't been able to print or save as pdf my monthly statements. It just prints or saves a blank page. And the download button simply does nothing. I'm using firefox on an iMac to do my bookkeeping. I haven't tried another browser because it irritates me to have to try one after another trial and error to find one that works. When I complained on the CapOne Facebook page they just told me to call customer service. I don't have time to sit on hold for something so minute, but that makes me think it's something about my browser rather than their crappy site programming. (Or at least they think so.) So, anybody here have that problem and have you managed to fix it? Right now I'm reconciling my account just by looking at the statement on the screen but it irks me to not be able to save a copy for my record keeping. [link] [comments] |
UK food nutrition analysis - costs? Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:06 AM PST I'm setting up a honey company, and I was wondering if anyone who has done this in the past can tell me please, what a typical food nutritional test/analysis can cost in the UK, to meet UK food retail labelling regs? As it's honey, it just needs to be a basic analysis really. Many thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
ISO Retaining Incentives for Long Term Employees Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:00 AM PST Hello. I'm looking for recommendations/ideas/what-others-are-doing for our USA-based business (IT sector, <200 employees) to offer to some of our long-term (6+ years) employees to keep them with us. Employees receive a stock options grant upon signing on which vests over 4 years. (At this time, however, I must admit these are "worthless" unless we IPO or sell, which there are no plans to do either for at least 10 more years). We do yearly performance evaluations which usually results in salary increases; we offer performance-based quarterly bonuses; we have a 4% 401k match (immediately vested), pay 100% of Employee-only health insurance or 70% for Emp+Family. Aside from the random spot bonus, what else might we offer employees as loyalty incentive? [link] [comments] |
