American jobs are getting worse, new economic index shows Posted: 28 Nov 2019 04:59 AM PST https://www.cbsnews.com/news/american-jobs-are-getting-worse-according-to-a-new-economic-measure/ Although the U.S. is on a record streak for job-creation, many Americans still feel like they can't get ahead — it's not their imagination. The last three decades have seen the economy churn out more and more jobs that offer inadequate pay, a group of researchers found. "The history of private-sector employment in the U.S. over the past three decades is one of overall degradation in the ability of many American jobs to support households — even those with multiple jobholders," they wrote. Posted: 28 Nov 2019 05:52 AM PST I know about Robin hood that offers no fees for transactions, but it is only available in the US. (I am in Canada). I came across Wealthsimple , but I want to see if anyone else has any recommendations. I am looking for something to trade without a ridiculous commission fee for every transaction. Thanks [link] [comments] |

What is the point in dividend investing if the share price drops by the dividend amount? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 08:48 AM PST Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am wondering why would people invest in dividends thinking they get extra money as dividend payments when in reality they get that money but they lose an equal amount in the share price? Example: a company share is worth $10, they pay a dividend of $1 and on the ex dividend date the price of the share is adjusted by the stock exchange to $9 (this is ALWAYS done). At the end you did not make any profit at all, what is the point of looking for high yield dividends? Please help me understand the hype of dividend investing vs just relying on share appreciation, it seems worthless to me. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Are we in for a repeat of the ‘Long Depression’? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 01:11 AM PST There are a lot of parallels between the present moment and the late 1800s, including a backlash against globalization: economist Nope, not the Great Depression - there was one that by many accounts was even worse. A financial crisis that left in its wake deflationary price pressures, low productivity, stagnant incomes, a spike in populism, a backlash against globalization: if that all sounds familiar, you may not like the following insight. It comes from Dario Perkins, global macro economist for TS Lombard, who, in a Wednesday note, described the historical period he thinks most resembles the current moment. That era is called, a bit bleakly, the Long Depression, and stretched from 1873 to about 1896, depending on the country. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/are-we-in-for-a-repeat-of-the-long-depression-2019-11-27 [link] [comments] |
