Owning a business is fucking hard. Advice or encouragement would be super appreciated. Posted: 28 Nov 2019 10:16 PM PST I own a business and I have 10 employees. I've owned it for 4 years and on the outside everyone thinks I have it made. I'm very young, successful, and I get to do things that most people don't get to do at this age. However, I'm fucking miserable. I put on a great face and pretend like everything is ok all of the time when in reality I dread going to work and I dread dealing with clients and employees. Don't get me wrong, I like the people on my team who are reliable but when someone messes up I feel like I overreact because I'm just burned out. Some days I wake up and I'm scared to look at my phone or get out of bed because I don't know what's going to happen that day. I get extremely anxious on sundays because it means a new week is about to start. Recently, I've been literally feeling extremely sick on workdays and I think it might be because of the anxiety because I don't get it on weekends. However, what's different now is I feel like I don't want to go on. I'm so tired of everything and honestly just exhausted. I wish I could just quit everything and go into hiding. It just sucks because no one who works for me knows this and if I showed one ounce of this then it would affect them too and then GOD I'd have to do even more work to keep them on board which sounds like a nightmare at this point. I carry the emotional burden of the entire company and every person in the company. I'm just so tired of everything and recently I've had really bad thoughts... like "it'd be much easier if I just wasn't alive" kind of thoughts. I'm not suicidal but it's really scaring me that I'm having these thoughts. I feel super trapped and I feel like there's no escape. No one understands what it's like to be a young business owner with so much fucking responsibility. I just wish I could quit but I literally can't. It would be a massive shit show and I would put so many people out of work. Plus, I'd be shamed by the entire city. Unfortunately my business is very well know in a city of about 250k and we've won several awards. So there's literally no way to escape quietly. I can't sell right now either. I bought out my business partner this summer and I'm only 25% done with paying him off. It's a large sum too so potential buyers wouldn't even look my way. Anyway, I'm just done. Idk what to do. I got put on Wellbutrin a few weeks ago but I still haven't noticed any differences. I'm lucky to have a boyfriend who has really helped talk me through a lot of these feelings but I keep going back to the same feeling of being trapped and emotionally exhausted. Some days I wish my business would fail, which is craaazzzzy to wish. Anyways... any words of encouragement or advice would be super appreciated. Sorry if i rambled too much. Owning a business is fucking hard. [link] [comments] |
What is your "turns out" that made sense? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 08:39 AM PST Mine was when I had the idea to create an App that would let self-employed professionals (like hair-dressers/mechanics etc) receive and organize appointments and payments for my country in native language. Then I did little research and found that about two years ago team of devs was developing that kind of app. So I visited their site - it was down, download links for the app not working too. They had in my opinion big pre-launch and launch marketing compaign too. I had a question - "why it didn't worked out?". Then I asked some questions to the potential audience (self-employed professionals). So turns out - they do not want that kind of app, because all income will be taxed/registered and they will have no time or desire to organize the app, they barely can answer the phone. So that made sense to me. Maybe this would work in other countries, but I researched only about what I was interested in. Also remembered that scene where Berta in Two and a Half men said that she had a doughnut shop near the police station and she said - "Can't go wrong, right? Turns out police don't like to pay for the doughnuts." So I think if we share our stories, maybe someone will save some time. [link] [comments] |
What's is the best e-signature solution out on the market today? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 07:45 AM PST There are several e-signature apps on the market today that offer a variety of tools that can be used by both professionals/business owners and everyday users. I've tried several - DocuSign, PandaDoc and HelloSign. Although I initially really enjoyed using all three, each had their own issues. With PandaDoc, the price of 20$ per month for the professional subscription was a bit too steep for me since I wasn't using it at much as I initially thought I would. With DocuSign, every time I would have at least one issue where it'd concern document uploading, it was a bit laggy, and the price is pretty high as well. HelloSign was my least favorite of the bunch - a really low amount of tools and also buggy. I didn't do enough research on all three prior to using them. Although PandaDoc was pretty great in many ways, it was just too expensive. My 4th app that I began using for signatures is DottedSign. I have it on my iPhone and my MacBook - it works pretty well so far. I like the price too, the monthly plan is 10$, I can do tracking on all the signatures which for me is a load off my shoulders. The free version isn't bad either, I used it for a few days before committing to the paid version. It's not 100% perfect and there are issues that I hope are fixed soon, like templates being added and some UX could use a bit of help, but all in all, it's not bad for the price and it gets the job done. P.S Anyone knows by the way what e-sign owns the biggest part of the market? [link] [comments] |
Business ideas for 2020 (with good income) Posted: 29 Nov 2019 02:29 AM PST What's the most recommend business to open in 2020? (Trending business is fine to me, but online business is better!) [link] [comments] |
What is missing in today's business directories? Posted: 29 Nov 2019 03:30 AM PST With everything moving online, the days of looking up businesses on the Yellow Pages and trade journals are over. Today's search is driven by Google and the searchers are using trusted online directories to find businesses and products. That is why adding your company to those lists id crucial to get noticed in the digital space. So I'm wondering what's missing in today's directories and how can they be improved for better engagement and results. [link] [comments] |
Having issues locating a vendor. Posted: 28 Nov 2019 07:53 PM PST Looking for a package company that can silkscreen white ink onto a 12" x 36" clear plastic sheet. I have tried emailing but they don't return because I am looking for only 5,000 pcs. Maybe I need to call and speak to sales people. [link] [comments] |
How to Afford an Augmented Reality Solution as a Small Business Posted: 29 Nov 2019 03:12 AM PST So you want to implement an augmented reality solution. Maybe you've got an e-commerce store selling products where the aesthetic and dimensions matter, such as furniture and décor, or you're an artist who wants to add extra value to their artworks, or you are about to launch a promotional campaign and want it to appeal to your audience. https://medium.com/swlh/how-to-afford-an-augmented-reality-solution-as-a-small-business-9d76d76923cf [link] [comments] |
Working out as a leverage point Posted: 28 Nov 2019 06:11 AM PST I was listening to a podcast with mario tomic (entrepreneur is the fitness community) the other day, and he said that more and more people realize that getting their "fitness together" is a leverage point.I couldn't understand that, has anyone here achieved this and how did it boost your professional life? Would love your feedback on Tonik Posted: 28 Nov 2019 10:42 PM PST Hi Everyone, My roommate and I are working on a website that helps businesses with their ads. Businesses could just upload the creative assets like videos or images and we would handle targeting the right people, distributing and testing your ad. Here is a link to the landing page that describes what we are building in more details https://www.tonikplatform.com Background I'm a software engineer who has worked on ad tech for a few companies. When I was a 13 I ran a sneaker reselling website named neptoonz kicks and used to run Facebook, Instagram & eBay ads back then. I remember how difficult it was to run ad campaigns and how much money I lost not knowing what I was doing. I literally made the mistake of targeting the wrong audience the first month I launched a campaign, literally wasting my Ad budget that month. My roommate is a software engineer who used to run a Shopify store for his clothing line The Urban Nerd during his freshman year. While running his site he as well found it difficult to run his Facebook Ads and lost 1k a month for 3 about months not knowing what he was doing either. I would greatly appreciate any feedback anyone could give on what we are building. Thanks!💚 [link] [comments] |
What's a cheap option for storefront sign? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 10:37 PM PST I wanted one of those signs that look like wall art. No channel letters. I googled my options and the best I came up with is vinyl banner with a tension frame. I don't know if this will look professional. I searched my local sign shops, and they all listed banners as a temporary option and no framing option. Is it reasonable to have a vinyl banner with a tension frame as a permanent storefront sign? What other options are available that do not include channel letters? [link] [comments] |

GDPR Compliant Data-Driven Advertising in the Era of Regulations Posted: 28 Nov 2019 12:31 PM PST GDPR compliance has been enforced since May, 2018, and it is the most thorough regulatory requirement for proper management of consumer data. "Some of the key privacy and data protection requirements of the GDPR include:
-Digital Guardian GDPR sets a necessary framework for protecting users in an era where data is increasingly valuable. While GDPR provisions are the first in line for stringent enforcement of data protection, they are certainly not the last. GDPR compliance is mandated by the European Union; other countries are drafting data protection laws of their own. For businesses, laws that dictate a framework for data management make marketing more difficult than it already is. Enterprises possess the capital to hire teams, consultants, and expensive third-party software to ensure they can comply with GDPR laws, but SMEs have to comply with both their capital limitations and GDPR. While GDPR is a much-needed positive step for consumer data protection, it paves an uneven floor for growth as enterprises can easily push their marketing activity without concerns of compliance breach, as this would be managed by external experts. SMEs have struggled to comply with GDPR laws, but the shift to proper data management, processing, storage, and handling will only become increasingly difficult as more countries issue their own data protection laws. Using Blockchain Technology in the Era of Data Usage RegulationUser tracking and user data processing are critical in today's data-driven business environment. Tracking mechanisms capture myriad points on customers to understand profile said users so marketers can properly target these users. At larger enterprises, machine learning algorithms, rather than individual marketers, target users on the basis of mass data processing. This form of marketing has already become difficult with the release of just 1 regulatory framework from just 1 part of the world. A small error in proper data management and processing can cost companies up to 4% of their annual revenue in the form of fines from GDPR breach. Blockchain technology and smart contracts offer the capacity to enable autonomous protocol that can comply with regulatory frameworks while ensuring that user data is not put at risk. The solutions this technology offers extend beyond mere safety of storage and processing. 2key Network is paving the way to leverage smart contracts to create a new form of marketing ready for not just the increasingly digitalized future, but also the comprehensive regulatory frameworks to be released with respect to consumer data protection and privacy. When Autonomous Code is a MarketerA fundamental infrastructural component of the web, HTTP web links, has remained static in capability yet its purpose has changed drastically. While links once served the purpose of web navigation, they are now the key to curate the chaotic mass of content on the web. While algorithms curate content on major media platforms, it is people that act as the ultimate curators for their friends, family, peers, etc. To optimize for both the past and new utilities of links. 2key Network has created Smart Links.
A Smart Link utilizes smart contracts to encode economic incentives and business goals within the web links associated with websites, content, social posts, media, etc. The bound smart contracts enable multi-step tracking, enabled through an autonomous protocol and stored via IPFS. This immediately dodged the risk of data storage. Smart Links enable their creators to build economic incentives for whoever shares them. These links align the new purpose of links — curation of the web's chaotic content through link sharing — with incentives that enable the supporters, fans, customers, donors, investors, etc. of an organization to play a role in the growth of its operations while being remunerated for this effort. The Smart Link tracks the sharing of the links by assigning a non-custodial Web3 wallet with each link recipient. When a conversion takes place, the smart contracts process micropayment distributions to all involved in the link chain that led to the conversion. As the data processing is operated via the 2key Protocol, an autonomous code, there is no liability on mismanagement or misappropriation of consumer data. Additionally, rather than rewarding the owners of mass media platforms, Smart Links recognize and remunerate the masses as the true owners of the web and the key implementers of the economic value that takes place through the internet. In an ever-materializing reality in which people are more aware of the value of their time and effort, and governments grow more stringent on the usage of consumer data, both recognition of the value of the "community" behind a product or brand and the importance of their data security play a crucial role in an alternative means of business growth, brand exposure, and product sales. 2key Network has created a business solution that is optimal for the current state of the web, where people are attuned to make content consumption-driven business decisions, and future-proof to the regulations and consumer concerns that oppose archaic growth mechanisms. How should I promote and market my new business Posted: 28 Nov 2019 07:07 AM PST Recently had an idea that I've begun work on as a side business. It's quite hands on maybe 5/6 hours to create each product and I can expend about 25 hours a week on it at the minute with working full time. I'm designing and creating one off pieces of feature lighting. So essentially big show stopper ceiling lights and floor lamps for high end customers. Im basically taking vintage/automative/wooden items that never were designed to be lights or other items that suit and creating statement pieces out of these. I have an electrical engineer degree and work in the electrical industry at present. My main concern at right now is that I have never ran a business, so due to this I have no idea how to get these products out there or how to get them on the radar of my ideal customers. Social media platforms are a great start however when it comes to selling home lighting at $300+ it's hard to get many customers from just scrolling past an ad. I just want to know if I'm best starting off with a webpage and try to promote myself through social media locally and trying to expand from that or if I should just create an Ebay store and sell from there. I'm aware that I could do both of these choices at the same time however with so much going on for me I don't think I could manage to run several different online e-stores at once. The end goal is to try and make this full time but I obviously know I need to start of small and grow from there, but if you were in my shoes which way would you go? Tl;dr: I'm creating my own home lighting brand selling one of hand made products, and have no experience with marketing. What should I do for the best results? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Nov 2019 05:50 PM PST Looking for POS system recommendations. It will need to be able to track raw materials coming in and the finished product going out. There will be no more than 100 SKUs. Kind of new to this whole world. And advise would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Finding warehouse/production space Posted: 28 Nov 2019 04:26 PM PST Does anyone have any suggestions for finding warehouse or production space? There seems to be an absolute ton of empty buildings in my city, but the only ones up for rent seem to be very aggressively priced or way too large. I've been looking around on Craigslist and LoopNet, are there other options or should I go with a different approach. It almost seems like driving around and looking for signs might be my best option at this point. [link] [comments] |
Pop-up shops as a marketing strategy Posted: 28 Nov 2019 04:16 PM PST I'm a final year student currently working on my dissertation project which is about small retail businesses and their thoughts about the "pop-up shop" concept. I'd like to know what this subreddit has to say about their interactions with pop-ups and if a dedicated online platform for them would attract more traffic to businesses. I've created a short survey which should take 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Please feel free to participate if you are a retail business owner OR a major stakeholder or decision-maker of a retail business (co-owner, general manager, etc.) OR if you or your business is interested in opening a pop-up shop/event. Or you can just let me know in the comments :) Thanks! Form url: https://forms.gle/N2i6gjtQUucagoxj8 [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Nov 2019 01:01 PM PST My in-laws have been running a bait and tackle shop for almost a year now. They are growing and doing good. They are looking for a point of sale and inventory system that's integrated. Essentially they want to be able to scan the products customers picked out, those scans would automatically go to the register for check out and log the sale in the inventory so they can see how much more inventory they have and do some light analytics on what is selling etc. They would also like this system to keep track of their income and profit. Could you guys recommend any such systems? Ease of use and cost are main concerns. [link] [comments] |
