Extra insurance for panoramic sunroof? In Illinois Posted: 28 Nov 2019 06:10 PM PST I bought a new car on Tuesday. It has one of those panoramic sunroofs that expands across the entire inside of the car. Someone told me today that I have to get an extra rider to cover the sunroof because my regular car insurance policy won't cover it if it somehow gets broken. I have full coverage insurance with good limits. Don't need gap coverage. Do I need some additional rider for the sunroof?? I live in IL. [link] [comments] |
Not sure what to do about my mother's house insurance (she's ill, house will be unoccupied). Advice? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 08:45 PM PST Edit: Forgot to say we're in Canada and she has insurance through TD. I'm not quite sure what to do about this situation! My elderly mother has been ill for the past week. It's starting to look like she won't be released from the hospital into her own home, but rather to an assisted living facility. I'm moving out-of-town in a week, temporarily for a year. If she does have to go into assisted living, I'm planning on going through her house when I return next year. I've been staying a few nights in her house since this happened, but I won't be able to do this for much longer. However, this leads me to my question... what do I do about her house insurance? Unfortunately, I don't have POA, so I don't think I'd be able to talk to someone from her insurance company on her behalf. She's really not in her right mind right now, the doctors are going to be assessing her mental capacity sometime next week. Should I try to get her to phone and discuss the situation while I'm in the room (I feel like it wouldn't go well). From my research, it sounds like her house will be "unoccupied" now, but I'm not sure how to proceed. I'll be moving out of town, but I should be able to come to the city every two weeks. I'd be staying in the house for the weekend if I did. I also asked if one of my friends would be able to come and check on the house every few days, and she agreed. I'm not really sure what options we have here besides crossing our fingers and hoping for the best. I know it's winter, so it sounds like the water to the house should be shut off. But would that still be recommended if I'd be visiting every few weeks? In a year I'd be back, living in this house, trying to get it cleaned, sorted, renovated, etc. for sale in the future. Auto insurance live in girlfriend Posted: 28 Nov 2019 05:42 PM PST How deep of shite am I in here? My live in gf who doesn't own a car and isn't on my policy just backed into someone while driving my car. Fair amount of damage to the other car as I have a suv and she hit a civic. She says the other car was stopped so close to her that she didn't see them. A few months ago she was driving my old car and hit someone who turned in front of her, she was determined to not be at fault for that one. And, I personally was trying to move cars around in my driveway the other day and hit my suv with my company car and dented the door. I have a claim open for that since no one knows who's gonna cover that one. I've gone from accident/ticket free for 20 years to all this in a few months. I suspect my insurance is gonna ask about my gf and her access to my vehicles. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2019 08:47 PM PST My wife and I have been married for a couple of years now but were living overseas. I recently got a job back in the US and my wife (UK citizen) will be joining me next month. While she's going through the green card process she obviously cannot get a state driver's license. Will I be able to add her onto my auto policy? She has a UK driver's license and I'd really prefer that she not be unemployed and stuck in the house all day, completely dependent on me for her transportation needs. Thanks in advance and I look forward to reading through any replies. [link] [comments] |
Diminished Value of Home - Water Damage - Ontario Posted: 28 Nov 2019 06:30 PM PST I find a lot of references to making claims of diminishing values for cars. However, I was wondering if the same would apply for a home. I have had significant water damage in my home, and I feel that this would be a stigma to potential future buyers, even though repairs have been made. I can foresee losing potential buyers or having buyers take advantage of this and offer me less than the value of the home. Has anyone come across this scenario? If so is there a specific percentage of de-valuation given to a house that had a previous claim of this type? For example, I am looking for something like this; 'Houses with water damage claims sell 2% less than a similar home in the same areas.' [link] [comments] |
Giving birth at Kaiser hospital, then insuring baby under a different network Posted: 28 Nov 2019 11:42 AM PST Hi everyone. Here's my current dilemma I'm trying to figure out while I still have plenty of time. FWIW, I'm in California... I (mother of current fetus) have employer insurance through Kaiser. If you're familiar with Kaiser, you know it runs a little bit differently than other insurance providers. I'll be giving birth at a Kaiser hospital, because I have no choice if I want the birth to be in-network. When I give birth, we'll be insuring baby within the first 30 days through the father's employer insurance (Blue Shield). This is much more affordable for us. I know this is supposed to retroactively cover the baby, but we're concerned because Kaiser hospitals are out of network for literally everyone but Kaiser members. Anyone know how this works? I keep reading online about babies being covered under the mother's insurance for 30 days, but that coverage seems to be under the assumption that the baby will be in the same insurance network. We're hoping for Kaiser-specific advice before we directly contact the insurance companies, as much of the information online seems to be for multiple insurance companies that cover the same hospitals (like Blue Shield and Anthem, for example). Frustratingly not the case here! Thank you so much for reading this far. [link] [comments] |
[CAA Ontario Canada] Car Insurance Question Posted: 28 Nov 2019 05:24 PM PST Context: My car's alternator just broke which meant no charge was left in the battery - the car was just in the middle of the road. I called CAA to my location and waited (I am in Ontario, Canada). During that time, a stranger stopped his car and gave me a battery boost which was enough to get me home. I already called CAA immediately and cancelled the towing. [link] [comments] |
International engagement ring insurance Posted: 28 Nov 2019 07:20 AM PST Hi, Hoping someone may can give some advice. My girlfriend and I got engaged and I'm looking to insure the ring that I bought. Here's the confusing part. I live in the UK and am a UK resident. She lives in Qatar and is a Thai citizen. Her job is cabin crew and as a result of this she is constantly travelling around the world. I am struggling to find a way to insure the ring. Everything I can see is based around her being a UK citizen. I can't put it on my home insurance because she doesn't live here. I can't seem to find insurers that are based in Qatar. I also am struggling to find insurers for jewellery based in Thailand. Has anyone got suggestions on how I can insure the ring? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Weird health insurance situation, need help. Posted: 28 Nov 2019 11:09 AM PST To keep it short, my husband and I are on an ACA plan. I got a job and their insurance starts 12/1. I know I need to cancel my ACA insurance because it has auto renewed, but I have dental appointments (like, 2 crowns that have been a month long 3 appointment process, 3 extractions that were a month long approval process, and two fillings) that need to be done in the month of December. By having concurrent ACA dental and work dental for the month of December, am I gonna have to pay the whole premium and be ineligible for the tax rebate? If so, is there a loophole or something? My dental isn't set to expire until the end of December idk why my work insurance goes through at 12-1. I gotta get this work done and can't afford to wait for the new insurance company to send out all the paperwork and stuff AND I've already paid the deductible on my ACA insurance so it's only gonna be like 300 instead of like 600 or 700 on my new insurance. I have also already prepaid for the extractions and paid 3/4 of the crowns. When I made the appointment. These appointments are literally within the first and second week of December too. I was thinking about calling the health insurance and dental insurance and cancelling them saying that my insurance starts 1/1. Is that a smart move? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Desperate for info, so if you can help me that would be AMAZING Posted: 28 Nov 2019 01:36 PM PST I am 20 and my brother is 22 still on my parents insurance. My brother is going to the dr and is transitioning to be a woman. I'm still using he/him pronouns till he is out. Anyways I work at CVS and his progesterone requires a Prior Authorization. We have blue cross blue sheild federal. Is there anyway we can change where the EOB with his appointments go to him? Will my parents get notified about the required PA? Any tips or suggestions he can do to keep in the closet till he is ready? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2019 01:26 PM PST I received an email for someone with the same name as my ex husbands mistress telling them their "life insurance quote is ready" . This email is in my ex husbands name because we opened it jointly when email first became a thing. The email looked kind of spammy but at the same time this woman's name tied to my email address for a life insurance quote is super suspicious. My ex is a narcissist in the extreme and so is his mistress. I wouldn't put it past them to come up with this kind of scheme. Could she have impersonated me at some point and opened a policy in my name? Is it even possible or am I freaking out over nothing? If it's possible, is there a data base somewhere that I can find out for sure? [link] [comments] |
In North Carolina, exclude medical payments on homeowners to avoid unnecessary claims activity? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 06:18 AM PST I understand medical payments coverage is basically a 'hedge' against lawsuits, but it still seems to count as a claim against policy. I've seen some folks exclude medpay coverage on commercial policies - with intent to avoid claims activity - and choose to 'self insure' for these amounts instead. Is this a good strategy on a homeowners policy to keep insurance costs low - by avoiding potential nominal claims? [link] [comments] |
Is it totaled? Ballpark is helpful, potato pic provided Posted: 28 Nov 2019 06:19 AM PST 2012 Dodge Avenger SXT Plus, 96k miles, Indiana, car was in good shape before hit and run: Hit and runner was in a large suv, hit my kid's front left. No injuries. Airbags did not deploy. Tire not damaged. No apparent frame bend. Front left corner of hood is bent, but hood works fine. Driver door opens only a foot because that fender is pushed back. I know thats a shite picture, trying to think of details. Left headlight is destroyed, but the brights work, if that gives any indication. Engine compartment looks fine, car runs well. Nadaguide says $4,300 for clean trade-in, and clean retail is $6,300. Is ACV between those two values? Anyway, hard to get estimates this week, so we are all ruminating on whether it's totaled. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
3 year old auto accident going to trial? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 05:59 AM PST Long story short, in December 201y my wife failed to yield and was struck by a guy in a in old Honda civic. She was at fault and State Farm handled the guys total loss. He went the the hospital for knee pain and from what i understand was treated and released. Then a month later went back for some stomach pain, which i think is bullshit but thats beside the point. He ended up getting an attorney and last time i spoke with the adjuster the demand was $30k. We had BI limits of 100/300. SF initially offered 4k and eventually offered 11k and the guy declined. The claim progressed and we were appointed and attorney by state farm and my wife had to do a deposition and some other things. The problem now is this happened in the midwest and now we live on the east coast. We just got notification the the claim is going to trial and my wife needs to be present for a 3 days for a jury trial. Missing 3 days of work is over $2k in lost wages and thats not including money for a flight and hotel. So my question is, what does she do about missed wages at work and flight and accommodations to go back to the midwest? Is that just us out of pocket? Also, the 30k demand is well below our policy limit so is there a way i can force the insurance to pay and make this go away? I know they want to settle for what they think the claim is worth but i pay for a specific amount of coverage to avoid inconveniences like this. Thanks for the insight. [link] [comments] |
