Legal Advice About to get arrested when I land in Boston

About to get arrested when I land in Boston

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 05:11 AM PST

UPDATE: Thank you so much for your quick advice on a Sunday morning! I memorized some of the lines you wrote below.

As we were about to land, the flight attendant handed me this slip of paper: https://imgur.com/a/t5neija

"The police will contact you when you get home. You will be banned from future flights."

    "Ok."

"Oh I hope so." As she walked away.

I burst out crying and hate myself for expressing emotion because she got what she wanted. She won.

There was surprisingly no police at the gate, no one to handcuff me and read my Miranda rights. I made it home in one piece. Still worried about the police contacting me and being banned from future AA flights. I've been an emotional wreck and can't stop crying. My Thanksgiving and Holiday flights are both on AA.

My seatmates were really nice and let me record their accounts of what happened. They gave me their business card in case I need a witness.

Thank you again for your helpful comments. I am not in jail (yet) at least! —

Original post: I can't believe this is happening to me. I'm flying from Chicago to Boston now and police are waiting for me when I land, so I don't have much time but am still gonna try and figure out my options.

Edit: I've looked all over the internet and can't find any FAA rule stating that your feet have to be on the ground during takeoff.

    Here's what happened:

    ..

I was on an American Airlines flight from Chicago to Boston on November 3rd, 2019. Because of low blood pressure, a foot injury, and to prevent my ankles and feet from swelling, I use a small sling that hangs from the tray table (while closed) and props your feet higher. This sling is often advertised on Facebook for this exact purpose - to make flights more comfortable for us shorter passengers.

Right before takeoff, the flight attendant, who was in a very grumpy mood, yelled at me to put my feet on the ground. I am a frequent traveler and have never been instructed to put my feet on the ground before.

"You have to put your feet on the ground!" I cannot emphasize how rudely she barked at me.

"No I don't but okay." As I put my feet down. Emphasizing again. I complied and put my feet down the first and only time she asked. Although I had never been instructed to put my feet down in the 100+ flights I've taken with my foot sling, I complied. I put my feet down immediately.

Even if it's technically not allowed by some rule I'm not aware of, the flight attendant unnecessarily escalated the situation.

She immediately escalated: "Would you like to go back to the gate? We're gonna go back to the gate!" And immediately ran down the cabin to her crew members in the back.

But right after she said that, the captain announced that we were taking off.

She came back to my seat and barked: "Police will be waiting for you when we land in Boston."

My seatmates were equally shocked at her escalating behavior. I had put my feet down when she asked, and my 5 words, "no I don't but okay" are now the cause of a police interrogation.

Her statement caused me to panic inside. I'm now mid-flight with no idea what will await me at the gate.

So I took some time-stamped photos immediately and stowed my foot sling back into my backpack for the remainder of the flight.

    Am I fucked?

Crazy ex is threatening to impregnate herself with my donated sperm. Is there something I can do?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:09 AM PDT

    This is in NY.

I donated sperm three years ago.

Wasn't terribly shy about admitting this to a girl I was seeing about two years ago, who has some boundary issues and took our breakup pretty hard.

My donation was, I was told, largely anonymous.

But she's claiming she can narrow me down based on my height, PhD, and other factors that I was compensated for when I made the donation.

She's saying she's going to raise a child with my DNA and teach it I'm the father. I'm not willing to be a father in anything other than a genetic way— which is why I donated instead of raised a kid.

She also says she can sue me for child support, and some cursory Googling leaves me... confused.

I've just been ignoring her. Is there something I'm supposed to be doing here, or something I can do?

Fla - can HOA tell me who can inherit my home?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 03:45 PM PDT

I live in a villa in a Fla. neighborhood with an HOA. The HOA is trying to amend the bylaws to prevent owners from leaving our houses to our own family members if we die, unless that person is "OK'd" by the board. This is a knee-jerk response to a unit now occupied by a young lady who inherited the property and has a considerable number of problems with the law, which is of course distressing to all the neighbors, but she is the legal owner. I do not want my daughter to be punished for someone else's difficulties in life. I'm not sure it's actually legal for an HOA to interfere with my estate planning. What do you think?

Can I report someone for not schooling their children?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:05 AM PST

My cousin in Michigan has chosen to homeschool her children, which is fine! However, she's not actually teaching them. Her 8 year old twins cannot read or do basic math past counting.

Also because of my family dynamic I'd have to report completely anonymously. Would I be able to do so?

[CA] I am literally arguing via text my Nursing supervisor (i am a nurse assistant) that he can not assign residents that do not have beds or rooms.

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:53 AM PST

this guy is insane. He expects me to take care of residents that they admit without giving them a room or even a bed. I sent him text saying that I will not and can not and he is arguing that I am abandoning (a legal form of abuse) the resident.

What are the legal parameters here with nursing homes/ nursing rehab facilities and the requirement that they all provide every resident that they admit with a bed and room. I am looking but can't find anything.

Landlord wants to hold me responsible for feminine items in plumbing (NY)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:48 AM PST

Hi all. Bit of a conundrum here. I live in an apartment in Nassau County where I am by far the youngest resident. Most are 50-60, I am a 26 year old woman. I actually chose this on purpose. I like the quiet. Recently, the building experienced some plumbing issues. After the roto rooter cleated the blockage, it was discovered the issue was masses of toilet paper and tampons. Suddenly, the finger was pointed at me in an email from the landlord because "I was the only one young enough to need tampons" and that he wanted to discuss the cost of the removal with me. I have an IUD and haven't had my period for about a year and a half, which is longer than I've loved here, and if I do get spotting (tmi warning) I use thinx underpants. Surely I can't be held accountable for this? I feel like it's crazy.

My (26M) Partners (24M) Parents Harassing/Stalking us and slandering us to our employer because of our sexuality (TX).

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:07 PM PST

Hello all, first time posting here so I apologize if this may be poorly written. I have been with my partner for about 3 years, the first year and a half he lived with his Albanian family and closeted, they knew that he was gay but couldn't accept it and would become physically abusive as well as tried to force him into an arranged marriage. Fast forward a year and a half and he has moved in with me, his parents eventually found out where he was and that he was with a man. Things have slowly escalated. When they realized his financial independence from them we started receiving threats and they have stopped at nothing to try and get him to "come home" as he is "a disgrace to the family".

He was recently hospitalized due to Ulcerative Colitis and was in line for a colectomy (total colon removal) when his sister violated our trust and told his parents where he was, room number and everything. She proceeded to come and cause a scene and when asked to leave she said "no I'm his mother I can stay" the nurses continued to tell her she couldn't be there and she insisted to stay. She continues to threaten him and I saying that they'll take legal action against us, come to our house, destroy us. The doctor walked in and she proceeded to tell him that her son wasn't really sick, that he was just sick in the head and that he was in the hospital not because his UC but because he was gay, an addict, and looking for pain meds. At that point the hospital police had to come and remove her, and his identity in the hospital was sealed or "XYZ". The next day the doctor came and called her verbatim "delusional".

After the hospital incident he went zero contact with his family (the only person I contact with was his sister) Despite phone calls, direct messages, text messages, emails, and phone calls from his mother. This has been going on for about 3 months. However yesterday it took a turn. He works in a security sensitive position for an airline, regulated by the DOT. He was called into his supervisors office and said that he needed to submit for a non-DOT drug and alcohol screen. The reason given was that someone had come forward and said that he had a history of drug abuse and mental illness (not true) and was a threat to the airline. He was recently supposed to be receiving a promotion, but now they told him he would not be eligible for the promotion anymore and was going to be indefinitely suspended pending results of the drug test and further investigation. It was never said it was his mother that filed this complaint, but once he said it had to be his mother it was pretty clear that's who had lodged the complaint to him. He was there for two hours and he gave his supervisor a detailed description of his childhood, how his family has been harassing us...so much so that his supervisor had to record it as it was too much to write. His supervisor said that the drug test results would be back Wednesday and they would know more as he has to take this up the appropriate chain.

My question is want can be done to ensure our safety, stop the harassment and allegations from his parents, save his job, and prevent something like this from happening in the future...as if we don't find some way to stop it they will continue to jeopardize everything we have worked towards. Finances are tight so any advice or next steps would be appreciated.

[CT] Was in a car accident. Car was not towed to my residence.

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:29 AM PST

I was in a car accident last night and the car. I was rear ended by someone and they fled the scene. Police did catch them. I was asked where I wanted my car towed by police/the tow truck. I told them my home. After staying up for two hours(5 am this time) and multiple phone calls to the driver the car never arrived. This morning we finally got a hold of someone at the company who first claimed they had no idea where the driver or the car was. After some pushing they "found" my car and it's at their lot. They are now saying I need to pay the $800 or so for the tow + lot fees or whatever.

My aunt passed away from a freak car accident this week. My uncle has become delusional and thinks she will brought back to life from a miracle. She died on Monday and the autopsy was yesterday. Organs were removed. Pastors have talked to him. But still delusional.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 02:29 PM PDT

Do we have any legal right to potentially have her daughter make decisions to have a funeral for her and have her embalmed. My uncle is delusional now and surrounding himself with people who just as crazy as him refusing to be with the family or his kids. They are hyper religious. But enough is enough. Can we take control? What can we do legally

Edit: daughter is 25 and we are in Florida

How to deal with towing company

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 04:58 AM PST

About two years ago my utility trailer that I was storing at a local storage facility was stolen. I noticed it was missing one day driving past the facility so I contacted them and then filed a police report which included video of the theft time stamped and provided by the storage facility. Today I received a certified letter from a towing company notifying me that they have had my trailer for two years and among other fees they want a $20 per day storage fee. Any advice from anyone who has dealt with something like this before would be appreciated.

(TEXAS) Is it legal for the grocery store my dad works at to lock him in for 8 hours a night?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:40 AM PST

My dad works alone on the night shift cleaning the floors for a family owned grocery store. They don't give him a key and keep him in the store 10-6. It breaks my heart that they do this, can anyone provide me with proof that it's illegal (if it is)?

Condo developer (owns over 50% of units) has taken over property management and is now neglecting property (Louisiana)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:25 AM PST

About 6 months ago the condo developer convinced the owners it would be in our best interest to let his company manage the property. We were having problems with the outside party who managed the building so the developer's proposal was a welcome change. However, as soon as we ok'd the deal, the building started its slide toward neglect. We are starting to suspect he may be boxing us out so that he has full control of the building, or has an alternative plan to benefit himself at the building's expense. We are no longer given any financial reports and we have no idea if he is even paying condo fees like the rest of us are. We are feeling pretty helpless as he is an attorney and we are out-powered. What can we do?

Landlord wants to charge us $2500 to repaint the whole house. We didn't even put nails in the walls, much less cause damage that would require the whole house to be repainted. What can we do?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:45 AM PST

We moved out at the end of September and just got a letter charging us a total of $3000 - for having to landscape (we left the place freshly mowed and in good condition), deep cleaning (understandable), and a WHOPPING $2500 to repaint entire house.

First of all, we have no idea why they would be charging us to repaint the house. The house came to us in decent condition, but clearly a rental - nails still in the wall, a light fixture missing entirely, and the walls covered in JUST SLIGHTLY mismatched patches where holes had been spackeled and painted over. (We have 8 or so people who helped us move in who can bear witness to this fact.) We were fine with this, it's just a rental, never complained. We had written permission to paint one bedroom which was dark red a shade of taupe. That is the only modification we made. We are going to the office tomorrow to ask why we're being charged to repaint the whole house, and we're really worried. This company has been really hard to work with (Real Property Management Enterprises, if it matters). They left maintenance requests undone, and when they were done they were half-assed (for example, they replaced our broken toilet seat with one of a different shape and color. Yes, the wrong shaped toilet seat. And just left it that way. The day we moved in, we arrived in the morning to find that the previous tenant's belongings were all still strewn about the house [she had been evicted they told us]. It's been stressful to work with them since day one.). We have basically no faith in this company to hear us out and frankly weren't all that surprised when we got hit with a giant bogus charge on the way out the door.

What can we do? What can we say to them when we go by the office to ask what's going on? We have no idea how to manage this. We are good renters with a clean history. Our previous place returned all of our deposit minus a hundred dollars for a deep clean. We don't fuck up our places. We didn't leave a single item, we even got the carpets professionally cleaned. We've NEVER been hit with a crazy charge or complaint like this. I don't know what to do. My spouse and I are both public servants with fairly low incomes. We definitely can't afford to drop $3000 on this, especially for something we shouldn't be responsible for at all. How can it be on us to repaint the whole house, especially when we didn't damage it?

Any help or knowledge would be greatly appreciated. This is a really really stressful thing for us. Thank you for your help.

Oh, and we're in Oklahoma City if that matters.

Is it okay to refuse to sublet to someone with children?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:12 AM PST

My friend is renting a house with 3 other people, and have an available bedroom. Someone she knows was looking for housing, but they have a child they don't have full custody of. That person wasn't planning on having the child live there, just stay over during visits but my friend and her roomates don't want children over at all ever.

I know federal law prohibits landlords from excluding people based on family status and whether or not they have children, but what about people who aren't the landlord? Are they allowed to say "no kids ever" when posting the available room?

My wife is quitting her job to start another. Her current employer is trying to reduce her pay for time she's already worked to minimum wage [US-OK]

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:14 AM PST

Recently her current employer added a policy "requiring" 4 weeks notice when leaving the company. Several other changes were also made which caused my wife to look for and finally accept a position at another company. Her start date is such that she was only able to give 1 week notice. They informed her on Friday that the previous 3 weeks she already worked would be paid out at minimum wage along with her 1 week notice (next week). I understand they can drop her future pay down to minimum wage, but can they drop time already worked as well?

Shes in the medical field, and works with patients in their own homes. She normally gets paid a fixed rate per person seen. She also has driving time, and time to complete notes. She doesn't clock the time she actually works, so they would have no real idea how many hours she has worked the last few weeks. They could require her to do so in the future, but that doesn't do anything for previous time. They pay 2 weeks behind, so she hasn't been paid for the weeks of 10/20-11/2.

    Public Urination as a Minor

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:13 AM PST

Last night I was with some friends in a typical suburb, and I needed to go the bathroom. I went in a long stretch of woods that didn't seem to be anyone's property. When I was finished, I heard someone scream "what are you doing pissing on my property!" I screamed "sorry," ran to my car, and drove away. They didn't see my face, and I doubt they got my license plate. Still, if they did, what are the odds they actually decide to go to the police. If they go to the police, would it end up in my permanent record? I am a minor (17) by the way, and this all took place in Pennsylvania.

school signed 30+ students up for insurance without our consent [Kansas]

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:43 AM PST

The school I am going to for my graduate studies sent out an email about 3 months ago inquiring as to whether we would be interested in insurance subsidized by the school. Due to having my own insurance through work I never bothered responding.

Fast forward to friday, I receive an insurance card in the mail and my first months bill for the subsidized insurance through the school, stating that my coverage began the first of October. I immediately contacted blue cross blue shield (who is the insurance provider) and they have claimed that my information was provided by the school and that due to them already having provided a months of insurance I will have to pay the ridiculous $250 they charge. Upon talking with my classmates there are at least 30 out of a class of 120 who are in the same boat

What is the best way to proceed from here? I struggle to understand how my name, date of birth, social security number, address, and signature could "accidentally" end up on the forms necessary to enroll me in the school's insurance, and I have 0 wishes to pay the bill for a mediocre policy that is more expensive and less useful than the one provided to me by my work.

Boyfriend and his parents are trying to evict me from my home

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 05:25 AM PST

(VA) long story short, we've been dating for seven and a half years. For the first approximately five and a half years that we dated he didn't work a job at all, I paid everything including house payments but I did not get any receipts because I was stupid. And he also lived with me for close to a year at my home that he didn't work or pay anything. Also no receipt. Now he says he and his parents are trying to figure out how to get rid of me. I don't know my rights I don't know what to do and I have nowhere to go. What can I do? I don't want to keep the house I just want to be paid back half of what I paid into the house it seems fair to me so that I can start over somewhere else and that's what I told him and I haven't heard back from him yet. He is now acting like he never said it. If you're wondering why we're breaking up after all these years it's because he had to go get a job about a year-and-a-half ago for the first time in several years and he says he loves his job but he seems very bitter about the fact that he now has to work that seems to be the main problem because neither one of us has cheated on the other one oh, that I know of. If it matters at all I take care of the entire household chores by myself with no help from him whatsoever and he does not make it easy on me and yes I know that makes me the stupid one.

I am interested in live streaming myself reading books aloud. How can I go about getting legal permission?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:53 AM PST

I fancy the idea of streaming myself reading certain book series aloud (audiobook style), where I do all the special voices and act out the scenes. I'm specifically interested in reading some very popular book series that have huge franchises and fan bases.

I have no idea how I would begin to do this legally. Would I need to contact the franchises to get permission? The publishers? The authors? How do I go about finding the contact info? Or is this even necessary at all? Is it legal to live stream myself reading somebody else's copyrighted content?

Would it only be legal if I didn't monetize this? What if it started out just as a hobby that I make no money from, then I became one of those lucky individuals with big followings and opportunity to monetize?

This is embarrassing but my 14yr old girl was caught and suspended for having sex in the bathroom with a 15 yr old boy in Florida. Now the school officer wants to talk to us.

Before we say anything to the officer, we want to know if there can be any charges or legal issues for the act towards my child.

Service Dogs and Health/Food Service Codes

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:45 AM PST

I recently took my service dog to a bar and grill in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Upon arrival I was seated and handed a menu and a drink list and asked the waitress to give me a second to decide. In the five minutes after she left I was greeted by two managers, a regular manager and apparently "The" manger on the patio and was instructed that despite ADA laws that say my dog does not need to have a vest on, that the Virginia Health Code as it relates to service animals actually says that the dog HAS to wear some kind of identification. I have been scouring the Virginia Dept of Health's website and I can find no mention of this. Was I wrong in assuming that the ADA is superior to state health codes? And was I legitimately discriminated against?
