How bad was everyone's Black Friday

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 04:15 PM PST

I'm in a frustrated place so perhaps this is too soon or close to be commenting on but despite 7 years of consistent year over year growth, this is the third consecutive Black Friday with decreasing returns.

Anyone else disappointed by Black Friday?

We need an HR person, but where do we start?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 09:24 PM PST

Hey everyone! So my business is currently made up of 10 men in our 20s. We have a fun comfortable culture, but I've realized this year that as we continue to grow, we're going to have to improve our HR situation.

Not only because I want to ensure that we are a great place of work, but because it's getting hard to me to manage HR-related issues well. The thing is, I'm not sure the best way to go about hiring our first HR person.

On one hand, I don't know if we have enough HR work for a full-time person now, but on the other hand, I know we can't put up starting building our HR department and longer. We have to start somewhere.

Anyone here deal with this? How did you start building your HR team?

Paypal is not available in my country. Can someone please suggest a way to receive credit card payments from international customers and receive the money in my bank account?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 01:22 AM PST

    Hi,

I live in Bangladesh and Paypal is not available in Bangladesh. The government has a tight policy when it comes to sending or receiving money from the country. From what I know working in a bank, you can receive any amount of money through SWIFT in your bank account or through Moneygram/Western Union and such. But if you want to spend money abroad, there is a maximum limit of USD 5000 for sending money (for example when buying a foreign product) to SAARC countries and a limit of USD 7000 for non-SAARC countries.

Information on this is very scarce on the internet. I have tried searching the internet for months and even called up government departments to no avail.

I need a way to accept credit card payments from international customers and then have the money sent to my bank account.

Can anyone suggest a way to receive the money from credit cards in my bank account in Bangladesh?

Starting Steps for a tiny business

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 05:18 PM PST

A friend and I want to start a tiny business, making extremely small profit (<$100 for now). It will be a skateboard company in which we sell skate decks of our brand.

We already have a name, custom boards in stock for selling (<2 for now). We already plan on selling to a couple people.

So what legal steps do we have to take for us to be an actual brand and be protected. We plan on just being local for now and no goal for rapid expansion. Just something fun and sort of profitable as we are still in high school.

Sorry if this has been asked, but I've searched and all the results are for people looking to expand their business or start one that replaces their current job.

Can you be a barber shop owner without being a barber?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 10:31 PM PST

I was just wondering if anyone here has a barbershop as an investment? Do you rent a retail property while charging monthly per chair from your barbers and pocket the rest after rent?

    Inventory app shared between users??

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 09:06 PM PST

My partner and I sell our handmade items. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good inventory apps where we can enter in the items when we make new ones, and remove individual items from the inventory when we sell them.

For example, if we make 20 wooden cutting boards, I would like to be able to enter those 20 into an app that can be logged in by both of us. When one person sells a cutting board, he could go into the app and remove just one from inventory. Does anyone know of a good apps that will allow us to do this?

    Thanks you!

    Dealing With Anger Towards Leads/Clients

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 05:19 PM PST

This is very general question but I'm very curious if people have particular strategies of dealing with client and lead frustration.

I'm involved (as 𝐎𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫 of an agency) in both the creation/conception of our services/products as well as closing sales and client relations.

Two situations I'm sure you're all familiar with

    1. Delays in client project or errors from team causing them to be late on invoice/churn

    2. Leads seeming to understand/trust the product until we show pricing - and then all of the sudden there are dozens of questions on us cutting

I'm always trying to solve problems by figuring out the cause and preventing them from happening in the first place.

These two situations freak me out because they are either cause me to think

-my product/process is misaligned/not presented or executed well -the market/personas I've chosen to serve are not natural fits

and the response is being frustrated/feeling down about that customer, and trying to pivot the product instead of feeling confident about the solution - and y'all know how that negative mojo carries through especially in the sales example and defeats any solution.

How should I react to honestly identify the problem without becoming turned off to that customer/leading and giving up?

How to know the collective needs of customers?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 08:51 PM PST

For phones the metrics are fairly known. In general it is ease of use, luxury/premium experience, low cost for students, photography selfie phones for mosty girls, and high performance. These are the general groupings. And they also measure the specs of the screen, battery, charging, and so on.

In any market is the idea to figure out what the collective needs are specs or base requirements and fill a spot in a market that has just opened up.

I'm having trouble advertising my small tee-shirt business

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 06:49 PM PST

Hey guys, I hope you are all well.

Earlier this year I made a business making teeshirt designs and selling them with shirts and such. However, I'm having a tough time finding buyers apart from my family. I really want this to be bigger and I think it has the potential to be something really cool. I want to advertise but I have pretty much $0 (I'm 14 and have not yet got a job) so I was wondering, how should my time be spent advertising for such things?

    Thanks!

    Quarterly LLC taxes?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 03:40 PM PST

I have a small healthcare practice in WA state of the US that just started in July. I'm the only owner/employee, and my business is a PLLC (LLC with a license requirement). I figured out how to pay my quarterly B&O taxes here in WA, but I'm getting confused when I try to figure out what federal taxes I need to pay. Does anyone know what forms I'd need to file for my federal taxes? I know it's going to be about 15.3%, but since my yearly income will be under $120k I've heard there's also a 20% credit for "pass through" businesses like mine.

    Starting a Clothing Brand

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 03:34 PM PST

    Hey Reddit!

To keep a long story short, I want to create my own clothing line locally (for now) but unsure on a couple of things. For context, I'm a senior in high school wanting to start a sole proprietary retail business.

1.) When researching different t-shirt printing companies I noticed that most sell already branded t-shirts (Nike, Under Armour, Gildan, etc) I am not legally allowed to sell another brand of clothing, correct? What would I need to do legally to gain partnership with one of these companies? (while researching this I was still pretty unclear of how to do this)

2.) Is there anything I should be wary of in terms of pursuing this kind of business?

3.) Do I need a licenses or a permit to sell retail items to people? If so, what kind?

I know these may seem pretty simple questions but any kind of input will help! Thanks for your time!

    How does investment work?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 03:12 PM PST

I have a law enforcement background, not so much a business background, and I'm trying to figure out how investments work when it comes to small family owned business. I started a small security guard business about a year ago and have been picking up small short-term and part time contracts for my guards. We bill the client X amount, and pay the guards a certain hourly wage, and whatever remains goes straight back to the company. Profits are good but not great due to the large amount of overhead costs and insurance costs.

Recently, we picked up a 24/7 armed contract and we are looking to get started within a couple of weeks. We have a lot of purchases to make before we get started, and my brother offered to invest $1000 into the business to cover some of those costs. How would this work as far as paying him back and how would he benefits from this?

Would it be the same as a loan in that I'd pay him back the $1000 plus interest? He also asked for a percentage of the profits from this contract over the life of the contract. How exactly would that work? He'd get, for example, 2 percent of the net profits monthly over the life of the contract in exchange for loaning me the $1000? So I'd pay back the $1000 AND continue to give him his percentage? I'm kind of lost and would like to accept my brothers offer and would appreciate any help.

Painting Contractor - How to find subcontracting work?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 01:51 PM PST

    Hello,

I own a small painting company that is growing and am looking for more steady work through general contractors and construction companies and had a few questions about the process and how to get work through these companies.

    1. What is the best way to find construction/general contractors?
    2. What is your strategy, how do you approach them and what should you provide?
    3. Do you provide any discounts to showcase your work for the first job?

Any other tips or information would be greatly appreciated. My company is fully licensed and registered.

    Thanks!

Why ? : A smoothie is really simple to do and takes no time and you can put whatever you want and will most likely always taste good.

HOW ? : Mix all those ingredients together!! You can find awesome recipes online.

Main ingredients: Fruits, ice, yogurt, juice (low quantity because of high sugar in it), a scoop of protein powders Other ingredients: Veggies, milk, maple syrup, avocado, eggs I hope it can help some of us and be creative! How to ship a single carton of perishables?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 12:04 PM PST

Idk if anyone here would have advice/experience but anyone have recommendations on how to ship a single carton of perishables? It's about 40LBS

I have a potential customer in Singapore who wants a sample box, which I'm cool with. I've just never done it to Singapore before. With large international shipments (usually full containers) I have a freight forwarder who takes care of that stuff. Should I try with them for just a single carton? Or should I just try on my own? Thing that's concerning me is the fact that it's perishables..how would I even do that?!

Someone in another sub recommended FedEx but I called and they don't work with perishables to Singapore
