Surprise $6,000 Bill 6 Months After Giving Birth

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 11:15 AM PST

Wife gave birth to our 2nd child in May, she's covered by insurance -BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois - PPO+ . During the delivery wife had epidural as many other moms did.

The total bill from the hospital (Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ) and OB's office was totaling around $20k and was all covered by insurance with a total of $250 out-of-pocket amount.

Yet, today we received a bill from the Anesthesiologist's office ( American Anesthesiology of New Jersey ), asking $6,000.

Called their office right away, and was told claim was denied by BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois due to provider being OUT OF NETWORK.

Called BCBS of Illinois, they're not working till next Monday.

Checked website of BCBS of Illinois , and did found the EOB of the denied claim, reason for denying being out-of-network

Wondering what's out best bet ?

Anesthesiologist's office is sending the bill to collection if not starting to receiving payments ($500 per month for $12 month + $5 management fee per month).

    ******************************

We live in NJ & wife gave birth in a NJ hospital.

My employer is based in Chicago therefore our insurance is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.

Optum is making me switch to a medication that doesn't work! Help!

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 06:57 PM PST

I just got a letter in the mail that Optum will no longer be accepting a copay card for my current RA medication (Enbrel) and wants me to switch to a "cheaper alternative" which I assume is Humira, as it's the only other biologic on the market fo my condition.

The thing is that I've been on Humira before and it didn't work out for me. After 13 years of constant pain Enbrel gave me back my life and I don't want to lose that... But I can't afford 3k a month for my medication.

    Do I have any options?

Insurance going after family, how to proceed?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 04:26 PM PST

(FL) Hello, I drive my dad's car and am under his Allstate insurance, but I don't live with him. I live with my mom who has Geico and I am in no way under her insurance. I hit another car, my fault, and the damage to the other person's car was minimal (paint scratch). My dad fixed the damage to his car on his own without asking the insurance for anything.

Today my mom got an email from Geico asking for her statement on that accident. I understand insurance will go after anyone who might pay but I just want to know how should I proceed? Should my mom give a statement that she knows nothing about that accident and that I'm not under her policy or should she ignore it? Thank you for any input.

Can I get out of car insurance mid cycle?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 07:13 PM PST

So today I went from a Subaru Sti to Audi rs3. I have insurance from progressive and recently moved. The insurance went from $305 to $360 from the move.

The reason it's high is 3 years ago I rolled through a flashing red. Got a ticket. Haven't had any other infractions or accidents.

Anyway progressive wants to raise my insurance from $360-$900 while gieco quoted me $300 a month. I'm 28. Los Angeles. I don't understand.

    Please help me!

How to estimate value of a handmade item for a theft claim

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 02:57 PM PST

Our storage unit was broken into and among the items they took was a bin of handmade cosplay/costumes. I am working through the insurance claim and don't know what an appropriate estimated cost of these costumes would be. My ideas are:

    • only the estimated base cost of the materials
    • cost of the materials + (minimum wage x my estimated number of hours of work)
    • cost to buy a similar costume eg from a seller on Etsy

For example one of the costumes was over $300 in materials and probably over twenty hours of work. I know the sentimental value can't be accounted for, but I can't figure out what a realistic material "replacement value" would be in this case. Does anyone have experience with this?

    (I am located in Canada)

    Likelihood car is totaled?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 06:36 PM PST

Thanksgiving morning my car was hit by a trampoline that got blown around by the wind. Took the car to an auto body shop and they estimated the damage at $3188. Car is a 2012 Ford Fiesta with 29,500 miles. Just paid the car off last year. KBB and NADA seem to value the car at approximately $4000-$5000 in good/excellent condition. I live in Pennsylvania. What are the odds that the car is declared a total loss? I really don't want to buy a new car as my current car is fine. I realize that I will have to submit a claim to figure out exactly how insurance will handle, but was wondering if the car is likely totaled and what I should know going into this process as I've never had to file a comprehensive claim. My agent isn't in his office until Monday and I prefer to file the claim with him directly so I can talk out all the different scenarios. Thanks in advance for any assistance/advice.

    Getting something off your report?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 08:18 AM PST

In 2016 my husband side swiped a pole getting out of a parking space. Car was still driveable but I called the insurance asking what I should do....didn't report a claim or anything. She told me to take it to a body shop and see how much it would cost to fix, if it's more than my deductible I can start a claim.

When I took it to the shop they told me it would be like 6k because the damage was on the fender and the door and because they don't sell skins for the door I would have to buy a new door (2013 chevy Cruze with almost 100k miles at the time).

Obviously I didn't pay for it, I also called my insurance and said I was not submitting a claim. The car was still drivable but the damage for just that was worth more than the car and again, still drivable it just looked ugly so I didn't do anything about it.

I was shopping for car insurance and found that it's on my report? It was damage to the car (and makes me look risky as a driver) but can it be reported and used against me if I never made a claim and the insurance paid nothing for it, the most it cost them was two five minute conversations with a rep.

Car Claim Denied; what costs am I responsible for now?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 12:31 PM PST

So I made an insurance claim about a month ago. Basically, I lent my car to a good friend for a month because he was in a rough spot and needed it more than I did at the time. He was the victim in a car accident that hospitalized him, and the car was deemed a total loss. The perpetrator got away.

I made the claim and dealt with all the car stuff, but a week ago the claim was denied. It's my first car, and I didn't realize that you shouldn't lend out a car for a long period of time without letting insurance know (in hindsight I realize it was dumb to not review this). So my claim is denied, but I don't really have a case, so I'm just going to suffer these losses, learn my lessons and move forward. Luckily my friend is being good about helping me with the process and the costs and everything.

The insurance company moved my car to a recycling yard an hour and a half drive from where I live. My friend left $3000 worth of his tools in the back of the car, and we'd ideally like to go retrieve them. I don't have much recourse so I'm planning to abandon the car.

I got a letter from the insurance company saying I'm responsible for all of the fees incurred by the claim. Insurance hasn't sent me a bill or anything yet, I'm guessing they're waiting for me to tell them what I want to do with the car before hitting me with anything else.

So I'm wondering, save for towing/storage what costs will I have to pay? Does insurance accept instalment payments, or are they going to demand it all up front? Also, will this significantly affect my insurance when I get a car again in the future?

Thank you for any information. I'm a little lost here.

Thieves smashed car window, dented hood in process

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 12:26 PM PST

I have Geico car insurance, with a $500 comp deducible with no deductible for glass.

Anyway, recently a thief smashed our car's rear quarter panel window to see if anything was in the back. They used this large heavy piece of metal sitting in our apartments parking garage (I don't know what it was for) and they must have placed it on our hood or something because there were four deep scratches on the hood that matched the heavy object perfectly.

While setting up my comp claim I mentioned this, assuming that it will be cheap to buff it out. Anyway, I had thought that this would all be covered under my no glass deductible, but looking at my claim online, its against my $500 deductible. The shop did confirm that they were going to correct the scratches in the hood.

Question is, did I screw myself out of $400 (getting the scratches out afterwards myself or in a shop) by mentioning that part? I can afford it, just kinda sucks I guess. I should mention I also did use the towing and rental part of my claim, so maybe that's why?

If I’m moving out of my parents home to go and live with my girlfriend and her family, how will this effect my insurance? Will I still be on my parents policy? Will the pricing go up because I’m not living in my parents home anymore?

Can your insurance company add an umbrella policy without you asking/giving permission?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 02:55 PM PST

I received my renewal bill and it shows umbrella insurance, something I've never had and never asked for. I've been with the same company for almost 30 years. I'm going to call on Monday when they open but is it even legal for them to just add it without speaking to me?

How to Reverse a salvage license decision

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 01:24 PM PST

Hi everyone, my parents' old 98 Corolla was hit by another person's vehicle in Washington state. They have admitted fault and the damage is minimal; the front left light is cracked. When dealing with the other party's insurance, they gave me two options: 1) have the insurance claim the vehicle for 2300 dollars. 2) keep the vehicle and receive a 2200 dollar check, but also a salvage title. From what I understand, a salvage title prohibits the vehicle to be driven.

Neither of these options are good for us. Is there a way to reverse this decision and walk away? I haven't done the paperwork yet. The car is completely drivable and the only damage is cosmetic.

Florida - Difference between P&C and claims adjuster? Need clarification

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 07:35 AM PST

So i'm looking at the 2-20 for P&C but I see that a claims adjuster is an all-lines adjuster. There are different requirements and from what I found it looked like claims was cheaper/easier to get, which doesn't make sense to me.

I'm trying to figure out if they're the same or if claims is a step up from P&C. Or are they two completely different things?

    Thank you in advance!

Insurance Companies Offering Full Roof Replacement Coverage?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 11:00 AM PST

Our current insurance provider - Grange - has sent notification of a policy change that will now only cover the current value of our roof minus depreciation. Investigating further this seems to be the status quo approach now with most insurance providers, unfortunately.

That said, is anyone aware of insurance companies that provide full replacement coverage in the event of a claim?
